My HC has Cody making up his mind to walk away in three, maybe four, steps in this episode: 1. at the Monument "...then they're traitors, like the jedi". He flinches - that hurt to be reminded of. He still thinks he killed his general, and that does *not* sit well with him. He's still a soldier of the Empire, though. 2. Grotton ordering the execution of Ames (against Cody's promise), threatening him with consequences should he refuse. That's *not* what he signed up for. 2b. Crosshair killing Ames instead, effectively and likely intentionally saving Cody. Cody knows it. Interesting debt of gratitude there towards the one willing to get his hands dirty... 3. The few surviving clones limping aboard the shuttle out of Desix, as Cody turns around to see the sneering Grotton, flanked by the soldiers arriving on the next shuttle, a new fresh bunch of *TK-troopers* . The clones gave everything, and the Empire's just discarding and replacing them... Powerful image, and likely the last straw.
This scene is the coldest in the entire Bad Batch series. The execution left a really powerful mark on Cody's inevitable AWOL. Rex was right all along, no clone in their right mind would serve the Empire.
Cody really is the only one trying to make peace in that episode
Yeah, even though he thinks Obi-Wan is dead, he's trying to honour his Jedi general by following his example.

Its not what he even signed up for, he didn't get that luxury. It wasn't what he was made for.

0:12, I know it's a small detail but, I like how Crosshair pulls Cody out of the way just before the explosion as if to say "Come on, will you!"
I didn't realize it at first but Crossshair saved cody when he executed the governor
