    Good Job Oscar!!! I;m glad you brought up the point about knowing your limitations and stop delivering at the point of what they paid for otherwise you could be detailing "just one more thing" for hours. Great cost analysis in showing the owner both a polish and wax versus a correction polish. Big sucker of a SUV you tackled.

    I bought ONR and washed/wiped my highlander last week for the first time. Overall, I’m impressed. Always been a soap-n-bucket type of guy and I’ve always heard overall positives on ONR. I wiped my highlander in one hour with ONR as a first time. I can see cutting that hour to possibly 40 minutes once I get a process pat down. Interesting product nonetheless.

    So true about the point you made around 17 mins. A lot of times I don't that. I just say, hey why I don't try to take this one stain out, it will only take a few mins. Then I find myself doing that all the time and adding much more time. Or I end up doing the whole thing for the same price. Then they will expect that for next time

    • @victorhernandez790
      @victorhernandez790 6 років тому +1

      John Rosado yeah man it's a struggle for real. The people that pay for me love it because they kept better details for the price but then my wife and my father-in-law keep telling me I'm taking way too long. Luckily right now I have my own full-time I'm just doing this as a side job so I'm not depending on the money I'm just trying to make up the money from buying all my detailing products at least and then make some profit after that.

    • @DetailGroove
      @DetailGroove  6 років тому +1

      Yup- that's a big problem with detailers. It's fine if you're doing it as a side gig- but that can't last forever

    • @victorhernandez790
      @victorhernandez790 6 років тому +2

      Detail Groove True. I'm glad I'm starting it as a side gig, that way I can start training and teaching myself to not be so picky and timing myself so I can actually make profit so if one day I actually go to full-time detailing I'm already used to it

      @DetailGroove  6 років тому +1

    I have a black car with water spots and some swirls. I don't have a DA. Can a iron remover like Meguiar's Ultimate All Wheel Cleaner work to largely remove the spots and swirls? I was thinking of diluting the wheel cleaner 1:1 and spraying it on First, then use my pressure washer to apply prewash foam and finally rinsing it off with a hose. Them use a wash mitt for the hand-wash proper. Then 2nd rinse and then clay the car while it's still wet. Finally dry and then apply Nu Finish Polish and finally apply a spray sealant like Meguiar's Hybrid Ceramic Wax. Can you see any steps I need to change, skip or condense so as to save time?

  • @integrafreak1

    Since you're using the optimum process, you can save even more time. Wash with ONR, spray OCW while the car is still wet and use as clay lube for your mitt, then dry. Wash/clay/wax in basically one step.

    • @jeftelopez5885
      @jeftelopez5885 4 роки тому

      John Markus if done properly you follow claying with paint correction/buff or polish then waxing , so if you followed the process then it wouldn’t be wise, claying is a little more long term maintenance , as for washing is weekly

      David Saucedo clay bars can last you for multiple cars. I’m a detailer as well and I have 1-2 yr old clay bars. You have to learn to determine it yourself, color, texture changes are big indicators of a spent clay bar.

    Yo, do you agree on a price beforehand? What happens if you go out to give a quote on a car but the customer thinks it’s too much - do you just go home having wasted your time? Do you take payment first? What happens if you agree on 250 but the customer isn’t satisfied and only gives you 200 for example?

      start small. I started at the age of 17 with $60 worth of supplies. 6 years later i have over 10k in equipment and products. Start small and do basic detailing. If you go rinseless route, get 2 buckets, wash mitt, microfibers for drying and ones for wheels (will get dirty). All purpose cleaner for wheels and two brushes, one long one for wheel barrel and a small hand held brush for the face of the wheel. Then spray bottles of course. Also a sealant for protection.

    Did the customer not want to pay for a polish? I mean after claying a black car or any car for that matter, I am sure there were all kinds of scratches and micro marring introduced to the paint. Not sure why anyone would want to put wax on top of that?

      They did not want to pay for polish. He might want to do it later this year. The claying did not mar/clay the paint on this one. I've had some where it did and of course a polish would be great... But if the customer doesn't want to pay for polish, what can you do

    I don't believe in claying a car without compounding/polishing. If you are using a very fine grade clay mitt rather than regular clay then it is probably more gentle and won't leave as many scratches, but I would rather have rougher feeling paint with less scratches than smooth paint with a bunch of scratches. Esoteric Car Care has the same philosophy and they help many high end manufacturers develop paint correction and detailing products.

    • @DetailGroove
      @DetailGroove  6 років тому

      And if the customer doesn't want to pay for polishing? You're not going to give your time (and skills) away for free.
      Whatever detailers want to say, think or do is dictated by the customers budget. I used to watch him a lot (and read his articles), but I realized that's not the path I want to follow as a business owner

    • @bpsdetailing8822
      @bpsdetailing8822 6 років тому +1

      I am not saying you are doing anything wrong or trying to bring any negativity at all. I just want to help people understand what clay actually does.
      I am not saying I would give any free services, I would just steer the customer a different route such as chemical decontamination only. Esoteric is just a reputable source that I tend to agree with on a lot of things, I constantly absorb information from various sources that use methods that I may or may not agree with. As long as your customer and your viewers understand that claying leaves a smooth and scratched surface, and not claying leaves a rough but not scratched surface - that is what matters. I don't think most people understand that, and that is the only reason I left a comment on your video. Keep up the good work, have a great day!

    • @DetailGroove
      @DetailGroove  6 років тому

      Yep- you're right. Not just my viewers, most consumers don't know (and realistically speaking don't care) about marring. They just want shiny

    • @ricbrn
      @ricbrn 5 років тому

      I believe I read an article once where Todd stated their least expense service was 750.00. I believe Jim White averages around 5K a car. You are talking about less than 1% of customers wanting details that pay that kind of money. Not realistic in day to day detailing. Know what your customers expectations are..not yours.
