Tokyo Ghoul reading experience : A true psychological horror tragedy masterpiece that kept readers at the edge of their seats. Tokyo Ghoul Re reading experience : One man named Ishida Trolling readers every week for the lols.
I much prefer Tokyo ghoul: re because of the massive story development, it wasn’t just anteiku anymore, and it wasn’t fully on Kaneki anymore, and in the later chapters, the story gets so unpredictable and amazing every time, there is always a sharp turn that nobody expects, Tokyo ghoul was good, but Tokyo ghoul: re, it will never cease to amaze me
Kaneki was our perspective of the average human had of ghouls and our introduction to the ghoul world without plot dumping. Ghoul :re did the same except with ccg.
I still think Tokyo Ghoul re is a psychological horror, but his symbolism, foreshadowing and character development is what drives it...it delves into the psyche of the characters and how humanity is portrayed in what you think is the most insane or most strong spirited...moments like this is akira saving seidou, the gradual loss of sanity in mutsuki, the impact of shirazu's death on saiko and urie, both who completely changed their habits for the sake of protecting those around them....but the arc where re truly shone was the ru island operation, seeing the symbolism with arima and the butterfly/moth, the subtlety of arima smiling as Kaneki finally started yearning for a desire to live, which as you mentioned in your tokyo ghoul psychological horror video dresrosa, kaneki was a very suicidal character but the way ishida showed this in his art and the characters designs was incredible in that arc, its everything from part 1 that culminates into kaneki and hide's impact on him...
Tokyo ghoul Re because it expands the world brings in my favorite character urie makes takizawa into my second favorite character and kaneki coming back and fighting eto is one of my favorite moments right next to his and arimas rematch
I like both. Both have fantastic character development, and is always mysterious. Ishida surprises me always, with every new chapter. I enjoy both, its just fantastic writing!
great vid Dresrosa. Like how you explain your thoughts throughout the video. Your videos just keep getting better. As for which tg I like more I cant pick. I love both stories and cant really chose between the two. If I *had* to pick I would pick the first because its more from the ghoul perspective I guess. TG re has more of my favorite moments from the story than part 1 though.
Same here. Studio Pierrot did such a huge disservice to this amazing world. I absolutely adore the anime, all of the seasons, but season 1 and root a have better animated fights, where re just has all of the feels ever. If only Pierrot gave the same love to the fights in re as they did to the ones in season 1 and root a, then re would undeniably be the best of Tokyo Ghoul. They also could have just not rushed it, gave it another season to flesh out characters and arcs. Just doing one of those two would have made re the best of the Tokyo Ghoul anime undeniably. All they can see are dollar signs, and as a result, Tokyo Ghoul re suffered from their penny-pinching. It deserves so much better. But, I’ll never not get a shit-eating grin on my face when Haise walks into :re and sees Touka, takes my breath away and I start crying happy tears every time. And the lyrics of “Remembering” are so significant to the entire show it really hits deep. They really show it instead of having it told to us, which I think a lot of animes fail to do well. All animes have narrative exposition to explain something, and it always feels weird they’re explaining it like they don’t already know, and it takes me out of it every time. Tokyo Ghoul does that, I think to a degree it can’t be helped with animes, but it minimizes it so much. One scene I can think of where the exposition feels weird is with Shinohara and Kuroiwa fighting Old Man Yoshimuma using Arata for the first time and there explaining how Arata works as they fight, as if they don’t already know that. Worse is, it’s unnecessary because they can take all that exposition out without changing any of the scene, and when Kuroiwa suddenly collapses with blood coming out of his mouth, it goes on like it already is with Kuroiwa commenting something like “if it goes on like this, the Arata will devour us.” Simple, and we would have been able to piece it together as viewers just by paying attention. But then there’s a part like when Haise first goes into :re and sees Touka (I really like that part, okay? It’s perfect), you see his pupils dilate and you see the reflection of her in his eyes, we just know that maybe he doesn’t remember her in his head but his heart never forgot. And then it shows her face and if you look close, her pupils are dilated, too, and you can see his reflection in her eyes, just like we did hers in his, so we know her hearts about to explode out of her chest since it’s been two years since she’s seen Kaneki. Without telling us anything, no exposition or narration, very little dialogue, and one inner thought, we immediately know they love each other deeply. I love things you have to pay attention to and think about. I think that’s why I love re.
@@smocloud yeah I get what your saying about the exposition like in your example with Kuriowa and Shinohara but a lot of anime and manga do that for the audience so we can learn how things work. Yeah some of us would be able to piece it together and some people wouldn't so I think its necessary sometimes. But I 100% percent agree with you about the Kaneki and Touka scene. Their was no need for it and the way the studio handled it was really beautiful. In my opinion its one of the few scenes in the TG:re anime that did the manga justice. Well actually I think it even outdid the manga in that scene. My favorite scene from the re anime is probably that one. I actually got teary eyed when I first watched it and keep in mind I read the manga.
Aceofspades928 yeah, that’s what I was saying about the exposition. I was saying that it can’t be helped sometimes. I was just pointing out one place where I thought it could. That’s the only place where I think it really took me out, despite it not being the first time they just start narrating information. The first episode does a lot of exposition with the news channel, but it never took me out of it because they did it in a way to where it felt like it was a part of the world instead of taking me out of it. If there was no way to truly avoid the exposition for Arata in that scene, then I think it would have been better to have had someone else explaining it instead of Shinohara and Kuroiwa, particularly Marude, maybe explaining it to Shinohara and Kuroiwa over radio. But I’m not a writer, I’m just saying I think that would have felt more natural that way.
@@smocloud yeah I agree and it would make more sense to have someone else like Marude give that exposition. Well in hindsight we can say that but like you said their isn't alot of times you can say stuff like that for TG. It usually does a great job of keeping us the reader more tuned in naturally.
I haven't read re but I do love looking at the politics, and the different perspectives behind a world, yet I did quite enjoy Tokyo Ghoul so I have no idea witch I would like better, there both good for different reasons
I like the switch of the narrative because we finally see what it’s like to really be a ghoul investigator and how there are good people in the CCG and not all of them are villains. Pt 1 expressed that a little bit with Amon and I guess Takizawa but for the most part the ccg were portrayed as villains. Re definitely fixed and expressed that.
I agree, too. It’s something of a callback to the beginnings of the first season, about the struggle between humans and ghouls, where we saw the ghoul side of it with season one and root a, we see the human side of it with re season 1 and 2. It’s what needed to happen, in my opinion. Not switching the narrative would have actually made it feel a lot more shallow, less thought-out, at least for me.
I can’t really decide which part I like more, TG or Re. Both are amazing. But I have noticed that Part 1 focuses more on the Ghouls and Re focuses on the CCG and the outer world, but I like the way Ishida did this.
I just love watching ur videos u r like attracting me more and more to hear u keep it up man 👍👏👏👏 and i was so happy when u announced a TG game but my happiness wasnt that much cuz it aint available in my country so 😕
I feel like in TG original, both the ghoul and human side was emphasized, not just the ghoul. The ghoul side being seen from Kaneki and the human side being seen from Amon, both being the main characters of the first series simultaneously. And TG:Re just expounded more on BOTH sides while adding a bigger role of the world in general into it as well.
it's sometimes pretty hard for me to understand Re (i do not read the manga) but i fucking love it as much as the previous seasons. i'm waiting for Haise (or Kaneki) to go insane again tbh lol.
Tokyo Ghoul Dark War Twitter: nanoen_ Discord:NANOEN#7425 Nice to see Dark War trying to get involved with the community. Onto my brief thought on this subject as a whole: How Ishida flips the narrative from such a miniscule scale of focusing on the story of Kaneki and his transitioning into the ghoul world into focusing on the fine details of the world that has pushed kaneki into this tragedy is one of my favorite aspects of Tokyo Ghoul. He does it masterfully. Tokyo Ghoul isn't a perfect series but there's a lot of phenomenal moments, ideas, and characters that Ishida has delivered to us. When one looks back and sees how far we have come. It's breathtaking. This has been a long journey not just for Ken Kaneki, but also for the readers.
Tokyo Ghoul is a prequel. That's how I view Tokyo Ghoul Re. Re is the main story, TG is just laying out the ground work for Re. ReReading Tokyo Ghoul makes me feel like Tokyo Ghoul was a baby compared to Re. So much more happens in Re
Yes, seriously just start from tokyo ghoul chapter 1 and read tg then re. Even season 1 skipped quite a bit and season 2 doesn't even follow the story at all and is pretty garbage. Doesn't connect to re either so yeah just read the manga.

I agree with both things you said
I understand all the flaws with this show but this is my favorite anime I’ve ever watched. The characters are too good.
Ishida told the story he wanted to tell, to hell with what people thought of it. That deserves a lot of respect.

With you there. I love everything Tokyo Ghoul. I’ve seen all of the anime twice and it’s still exciting as hell for me.
Ya, it’s pretty crazy and I love it.
agreed bro. i love Tokyo Ghoul’s anime. it’s amazing for me, all of it
Tokyo Ghoul anime series got me into Tokyo Ghoul.
4:13 for a second there I thought Haise was doing a hand sign from Naruto.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA I DID TOO
