I completely understand what you are doing. I used to BUILD race engines when I was younger and single.
I'm going to tell you what I did for your knowledge. I have a 99 Silverado with 300k on the original engine. This truck has been used hard for it's entire life. At 100k it developed a small leak in the left valve cover gasket at the corner. I changed both gaskets. When I did I noticed there was a good amount of deposits burned into pretty much everything I could see. I had been using Mobile One 5w-30 full synthetic since the first oil change at 500 miles. I gave the original oil 500 miles of break in on the engine.
At 100k I did a oil change with Royal Purple. Drove the truck 5k and drained the oil. My friend and mechanic put a camera into the oil filler tube to see what the deposits looked like. We were both amazed. 5k removed about 85% or so of the blackening from the valve train. I was very impressed.
At 160k I put a tree limb through the oil pan. Towed the truck home, ordered a pan and gasket set and went under the truck. We inspected the bottom end. We noticed there was not a lot of discoloration, but could tell there had been. We figured it was cleaned out by the Royal Purple at 100k. So now we are at 160k on the original 5.3L Vortec and need new oil. Royal Purple goes in for 5k, then back to Mobile One. Every 5k new Mobile One goes in. At 215ki tear the pan on a rock. New pan and gasket, go under the truck, and pull the pan. The crank looked almost new. At 200k i did a Royal Purple oil change. So I put the new pan on, and pulled both valve covers. The top end looked amazing. No dark spots. No deposits. No build up.
At 299,973 miles the 5.3 Vortec had it's first failure. I dropped the lifter on #7. This is the ONLY engine problem I have ever had with this truck. So we pulled the engine out and started tear down. The parts looked amazing. Just a bit of dark color here and there. The cam, crank, pistons all look like they are almost new. There is 300k on this engine so it is off to the machine shop to square it back up.
One of the guys at the machine shop asked how many miles were on it while he was looking at the parts on the bench. He said there was no way this engine was 300k old.
I talked to the owner of the shop about the Royal Purple oil and how it cleaned my engine. He told me he sees it all the time. Showed me a 5.7 Vortec with 575k. The owner did a Royal Purple oil change every 50k. The parts were clean and shiny.
The Royal Purple works to clean EVERYTHING out of the engine. Run it for 5k then change back to your normal oil.
When the engine is complete and broken in , I will be doing Royal Purple oil changes every 50k for now on.
I drive tractor trailers for a living and own my own. I have been doing Royal Purple oil changes on the Detroit Diesel in my Western Star every 5th oil change, so every 50k since in bought that truck. 735k on it and never have had anything other than injectors replaced. At 750k we are pulling the pan to look at the bottom end.

Oil filter changes is the cheapest insurance for a clean engine. I've done a filter change at 1500 mile intervals for my vehicles since the 70s and have never had an engine fail or self-destruct due to oil (period!), no matter the brand/type of oil I use. Oil filters are relatively cheap, as compared to a rebuild. I have also plumbed my engines w/ a catch can to improve the air quality going into the engine. All little steps towards the end goal of a cleaner engine w/ a longer life. Edit: I've been using RP for 15+ years now, w/ excellent results.

Royal Purple can be run for 15,000 Miles or once a year on a Single Oil Change. I've been doing that regularly for nearly 20 years now.
And Royal Purple is a Synthetically made oil. There is no crude oil in the product.
Along with Royal Purple, Amsoil, Redline, Syn Lube Lube4Life, Lucas (Hi Performance), and Neo Synthetic are also Synthetic (Man Made) oils with no crude oil in their products.
Lets all reduce our dependancy on crude by switching to these oils I mentioned folks. Nuff said and great video.

    • @iamthepush
      @iamthepush 4 роки тому

It depends on the engine. Some engines run cleaner than others. For example 2017 Range Rover 3.0L sc goes 16,000 miles between oil changes on any SAE 0w-20 oil. Where a 1977 Olds Cutlass needs to be changed every 3,000 miles, including if it has RP in it or not.

Thank you so much for these videos. I drive a lot (about 1000 miles per month) so I think it's great that Royal Purple cleans as much as it does because I definitely need it. I was literally standing in the auto parts store staring at brands of oils I wanted to try and watching parts 1-4 of this series lol. The recommended Castrol 10w40 is hard to come by on my island so I decided to switch and I always felt like it's stupid to stick so blindly to one oil brand when there are brands out there like this. Thanks again Bro.

This actually makes me feel better about my first oil change on my "new to me" car. I had intended to do a full engine flush and oil change to royal purple. Got ii all done and buttoned back up only to see the full bottle of engine flush still sitting on my bench. I was kind of upset with myself knowing that I forgot to put that stuff in seeing as that was pretty much the only reason I changed the oil a little early. Might still do an engine flush next time but now I don't feel so bad. Thanks for going through the trouble of making these videos.

Great video. I've been using Royal Purple for over 10 years. Most of my cars have been turbocharged (that tortures oil when driven hard due to turbine shaft cooling). I pay $35 at Advance Auto parts for 5 quarts and a quality oil filter (K&N, Mobil 1, Purolator Boss) so for the price you just can't beat Royal Purple! I currently own a 2005 Dodge Neon Srt 4 (Turbocharged 2.4 L) for the past 2 years. This oil has silenced the motor a bit and increased my MPG. I even switched my tranny oil (75w-90) Royal Purple synchromax. My shifts are butter smooth. I even changed my power steering fluid to Royal Purple. My power steering pump doesn't whine anymore. So after 10 years I'm a Royal Purple fanboy and proud of it! But don't take my word, try'em all and find what works for you. Best of luck .

Royal Purple Synthetic , was my go to Oil after struggling to get AMSOIL ! My Father was a Mechanic on Heavy Equipment , and his take was Always Choose the Best Oil Available ( Oil is Cheap Compared to Repairs or Replacement of Engines ) . Stay with with that Oil and Don't use anything different in that Vehicle . Quite a Few Friends have switched over to it , after Hearing my Take on Royal Purple & they report a little Better Gas Mileage from the Vehicle Monitor Reading One more thing My Father Taught me , Never Buy Cheap Oil filters ( buy the Best ) . I change my Oil every 5,000 miles , Or once a Yr if I haven't put 5,000 Miles on it ! No matter how many miles the Oil says its Good for !

I had a 2007 F-150 with the 5.4 Triton V8 engine. I did a complete RP switch (transmission, rear diff., radiator, and engine oil). The truck ran smoother and quieter than any vehicle I’ve ever owned. I’ve got slight hearing loss and would leave my truck running many times because I would forget it was even running. I switched to RP in a 96 Camry as well. I did an oil change after 1000 miles. I sent that oil off as well as oil from the next oil change at another 1000 miles and the company said that my engine quality had improved because the oil did not have the same traces of metals or h2o like it had previously. Of course that came with changing out several seals as well.

My 2000 Blazer is about to go up to 178,xxx miles. No idea what the 4.3's past life has been, besides under-maintained. Oil was pure black when I got it, and only ever had 5 of 6 spark plugs replaced (middle plug on driver's side under the steering shaft is a bitch to get to). Replaced with Supertech 5/30, and new filter. Seems to run well for it's shape. I will certainly run RP in my next change. It can't hurt, and hopefully it cleans it out as well as you've shown it does. Cheers and thanks for the time on doing this test!

      2007 Accord coup 6 cylinders.
Been using SuperTech full synthetic from the day it went out of warranty (2010).
I’m sure the Royal Purple would help clean it out, but why bother.
188,000 miles and purrs like a kitten 🐈‍⬛.
When I did the timing belt at 110,000 , took off the headers and it was VERY clean. Clean as a whistle.
You seem to be doing just fine and you’re saving money. The key is to change your oil regularly and never push it to a ridiculous number.
If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

I've been using Royal Purple XPR in a Toyota 1MZ engine with great results. The engine even sounds different when running that oil. It gives more of a sewing machine type of sound when revving than it seems to with any oil shops used to use in the past or even with the Pennzoil Ultra Platinum that I've also tried. Both are very good oils though. I've been alternating back and forth for a couple years now.

I used Mobile 1 full syn until RP became widely available then switched over in my old '06 Grand Prix at close to 50k miles. I was able to see down oil fill tube and after the third oil change the parts I could see were Staind with a purple tint and all the dark spots/deposits were gone! I put 198k on that car before donating and never had an oil leak or any sort of internal damage. It does improve gas mileage for around 3500 miles for me as well - at which time I change. I have a '16 Murano now that I also purchased new and switched over from conventional oil after manufacturer break in period at 10k. Had a small amount of deposit on the top of the head I could see before the switch. Vehicle now has 76k and the top of the head is also stained with a purple tint with zero visible deposits - and never any additives added to oil. RP is great stuff and worth the few extra dollars.
As a side note, I try red lines full syn oil in my high mileage Durango and that Grand Prix once. It seemed to increase noise on the top end of the engine, turned black quickly and did nothing for fuel economy. Swapped back to RP after 2k. It didn't build any visible deposits, but was only in the vehicles for a short amount of time during the cooler fall season in Colorado. Red line is way over priced garbage in my opinion. If RP would go out of business I would try Valvoline full syn first as my brothers company trucks all do well with their high mileage products.
    Enjoyed the videos!

I have an 02 2500HD 423,000 miles one it. Bought it with 62,000 miles. I used M1 all the time. I used to haul wutever I could. Sumtimes more than I should of 👍 Got my hands on 2, 2 1/2gl containers dirt cheap. Started using it. My oil was coming out dirty. Thought sumtin was kinda wrong but engine was running really good. Went back to M1. Got my hands on a 5gl Royal Purple. Same thing started to happen. Dirty oil. But my engine just wasn't "happy". Switched to Pennzoil. Had the o-ring on pick up tube go out. Mechanic showed me bottom of engine. She was clean. I kept using Pennzoil. 5-30 synthetic. While my truck ran beautiful with Amsoil, can't always afford. Both Amsoil and RP were cleaning up things. I read sumwhere that RP has micro polishers or sumtin to that affect. What I have kept doin is just that. I run my Penzoil. Then run 2 changes of Amsoil. Oil valley's are looking really nice. Like I said, RP just wasn't wutever with my engine. It just wasn't "happy". Amsoil, she's happy.. This is done with 5-30 synthetic and Wix or M1 oil filter. Best of luck to everyone and their engines. Just my take on things.

As a former mechanic in the military, we were always told that the oil doesn't "wear" out, it just gets "dirty". Now that was 20+ years ago and I am sure modern "additives" probably do change with time. But changing at least once a year will remove the acids and other chemistry nightmares that occur with infrequent use.

These questions can't be answered with this car. The change intervals on my race car are so short and the car gets so few milage I can't do much oil testing on it. The gas milage in the car averages around 7 mpg, when the car is driven, it's driven like a race car. This is why further testing will be done on more normal vehicles.

The way to clean out the engine quick and safe, is by using diesel. Seafoam is basically diesel and naptha and we know that seafoam is a good engine cleaner when added to the crankcase (many unsponsored videos demonstrating this). All popular engine flushes are basically kerosene. So add 1 quart of diesel to the crankcase (assuming you have 5 litres of oil minimum) and then run the engine at idle alone for 15-20 minutes. Then drain the oil, and change to fresh oil and filter. If you really want to test this out, simple, drain out your current oil and set it aside, put in fresh cheap engine oil, run the engine for 5 minutes, take out the oil from the dipstick and spread it out on white cloth, then add 1 litre of diesel, then run the engine for 15-20 mins, then drain the oil and compare colours. You will see that its pretty black, and all that black is carbon and sludge cleaned out from the engine. There is no risk of the diesel not mixing well with the existing crankcase oil and thus thinning it down too much. But if you're very concerned, add 750ml of oil to 750 ml of diesel in a 1.5 litre platic bottle, shake it up, then add the whole lot into the crankcase and begin the flush. NOTE after draining the diesel flush out and adding new oil, any leftover trace diesel will vaporize and get expelled through the ccv system during normal driving - so no worries.

So I have this 2014 Chevy Cruze, I got it used with 68,000 miles. One of the first things I noticed when looking down into the valve cover it appeared to have varnish build. The oil it had seemed to be clean so I put 500 miles on then decided to change the oil to Royal purple 5w 30 drove it for about 2500 miles then i checked in the valve cover and walla most of that varnish was gone so I immediately went to Walmart bought another gallon of Royal purple and once again I am at 2300 miles and we'll be doing an oil change within the week this time I pull off the valve cover just see if any other improvements

I put RP's high mileage oil (HMX) in my mom's daily driver (170,000 mile Toyota Sienna 1MZ). It burnt through a few quarts of Pennzoil Platinum in the last interval. Will see if High Mileage oil changes anything since it can swell up valve stem gaskets and somewhat clean out gunky piston oil rings.
So far, the oil at 100 miles is already darker than the 900 mile oil in her newer 5.7 Hemi Jeep Grand Cherokee. The Grand Cherokee only has 45,000 miles and only uses ordinary RP 5w-20.

my turbo diesel VW Jetta was getting about 45-46 miles PG hwy when I changed to RP I changed the oil after 3000 miles to get rid of the gunk from the other oil that had been used in the Jetta because I bought the car used with 20,000 miles on it, after the 2nd oil change my first road trip of 1400 miles driving at 80 mph average netted 50 mpg, that was in 2000 since then I use RP in all my toys.

I run Amsoil in my 06 F350 6.0 Diesel, I bought it used 7 years ago with 63K on it. I bullet proofed it and use it to tow. I switched to Amsoil at 68k miles. And run Archoil 9100. I noticed immediately my truck ran smoother and I had about a 100 degree drop In my egt's while towing on flat ground at 70 mph. My egt's consistently maintain 600 to 650 at 70 on flat ground. My nights gets where pulling a 16k trailer 50 mph up a 6% grade with an aggressive toe tune. My EGT's maintained 1,100 to 1,200. I did not remove my egr valve but electronically turned it off. Yes I realize it still opens and closes to a degree however its closed enough to keep EGTS substantially lower. I also run Amsoil in my 2019 Ford Explorer with the 3.5 ecoboost and noticed the motor ran smoother and had less lag. My explorer is all seat of the pants so take it with a grain of salt but I feel a difference. At any rate I am an Amspil fan boy use it my 06 F350 Diesel, 02 Jeep Warngler, 08 Mercedes 350 with 160K miles and have ran it with Amsoil since new, and My 19 Explorer.

Thanks for an informative and helpful video. I recently switched to purple from Liquid Moly on a '97 Mercedes e320 with the M104 engine, only because it was available locally. It only has 215k on it and runs perfectly, and I expect the Purple will contribute to it continuing. I wonder if you could not change the oil until he recommended mileage, but pull the filter half way and inspect it to see how much it may have pulled out of the system. Then do that again with the new filter and end of the expected usage. I remember a study by the NJ Highway patrol in the 70's in which they replaced filters at half the recommend period and doubled the mileage for the oil and found no appreciable difference in engine wear. And was rather primitive technology by today's standards.

Old timers trick was to add about 1/2 Quart transmission fluid for the last 500 miles of driving before oil changes. The detergents in the transmission fluid doesn't dilute the lubricity of the engine oil enough to affect it negatively and it really cleans the interior of the engine well with repeated treatments. I'm pretty sure royal purple uses some of the same detergent additives as transmission fluid.
