5000ft On One Battery? | Lake District Epic Ride Challenge With Adam Brayton
Вставка
- Опубліковано 14 жов 2024
- Four mountain passes, 25 miles, 5,000 feet, two batteries, two riders, no clues.
Steve is joined by World Cup Downhill Racer and geology aficionado Adam Brayton amongst the giants of the Lake District. Green slate gives way to grippy granite as the walls of glacial valleys are climbed; mountain passes, well, passed; and relentless descents negotiated as Steve and Adam battle with the elements and encroaching darkness; their batteries trickling ever closer to empty.

Riding 34.4km on their E-Bikes, Steve and Adam will climb 1539m at a maximum gradient of 28.6%. A careful balance of physical exertion and battery management should see them around the loop.

Have you done any huge loops like this on your E-Bike? ⚡️ Let us know 👇
Electric Mountain Bike Network
My maximum was 80 km and 1900m ascend roundtrip. Afterwards battery was empty but i (my ass) wonˋt go any further.
nice, would like to have some similar trails nearby. did a simple loop this morning 28km , +1600m elevation and steepest klimb was around 20% gradient and longest was like 15% for +/-1.5km and had 46% left on my 400wh battery when i got home . kept it on eco+ and boost for the hardest klimbs and im like 106kg heavy. longest run was around 70km and still had a litle over 1 bar of batterylife left
Yesterday I did 96km (60 miles) and over 1500m over the Burma Road and up Cairngorm Mountain...icy sleet at the end, but second battery is amazing (my a$$ cheeks say different today...ouch)
Would be nice to have an ebike......
We were in the peaks in similar weather couple of weeks ago! Is there a map of the route you did anywhere steve?
Adam seems like a super positive guy. Always laughing an smiling ⚡
Love love love these sorts of rides. Keep em coming. Amazed he did it in eco...
He's a beast 💪
Proper Mountain Biking !
absolutely amazing... proper epic trip!
More epic trips please 😁❤💯
wow, I loved the music and the scenery so much. Great job guys!
Beautiful scenery lads and great video! Loved seeing the riding in the Lake District!! Hard riding and great effort
Another beautifull EPIC ride after "into the wild". Love these videos about exploring the wild nature. Keep them coming!
Would love to see a "two battery epic ride" and what kind of ride it will be?!? Love that you are doing these videos in all kinds off weather. Miss Steves rubber boots though ;-)
I must say, I‘ve never really wanted to visit the UK, but all those great places you guys are biking through is really inviting. Thank you for your great program. Love it.
Cheers Frank! The right spots on the right day can be awesome!
The ebikes are coming!!
Coming? They've already taken over. VIVA LA REVOLUCION!!!!
Excellent adventure boys. Love the lakes😊💕👍
Awesome. That Adam is one positive individual.
Adams face when you called him Brendan, Steve, at 9.21 min priceless.. 😂👍
He said ... Brayton? Not seeing any special look?
@@BarryJTaylor yeah its that Welsh accent and the cold listened to it again and he does say Brayton i stand corrected :-)
This is the type of video and test I love. Pushing both man and bike
🤙
Really tough terrain in the lakes. I love it there, so glad I'm only an hour away from it.
Thank you for a great video! Enjoyed every part of it!
Probably the best e bike vid ever!
Made this exact trip apart from the Buttermere incline and decent when I was a kid around 37 years ago... I was in the Rough Stuff Fellowship and we travelled down to Barrowon in Furnace for the annual AGM.. I can remember camping at Ennerdale YH.. we carried are bikes up the tops without the panniers and saddle bags... we then had to go back and to bring them up again.. I can still remember the hikers laughing at us struggling.... but will never forget their faces as we flew past them downhill... great days.. just in case your wondering I rode Claud Butler Majestic with upgraded wheels.. super champion rims, double butted spokes with Campagnolo large flange hubs..
liked then unlike'd this thought you was taking the piss lol. until i saw the hubs and rims on ebay fair play m8
Wow, those were some serious trails
..you gotta say,the U.K does have some of the best MTB trails in the world,IMO...awesome video...thanks!..
oh and not the alps ? or utah ??
pizzagorgonzola He said some of the best not all of the best. The rest of the best are all over the world including the places that you named, lighten up!
Ok :)
I have been everywhere in the world on my e bike and think the best riding is in Patagonia or Peckham .
Great video guys and love em or loathe em a mint advert for ebikes too.
Been going through this channels back catalogue of videos. Absolutely love ebikes
That's what I'm doing now, 5 yrs from this post. Lots of vids. Quite the evolution.
More of this with Adam great Steve!
Epic ride! ...allways in „eco“!!!👌💪👍
Looked like a rough ride. Not for the faint of heart. Great video!
I’ve cycled up skiddaw and helvelyn on a non e-bike. Great fun 😂 Helvelyn was tough as I had to start at the Keswick end on the old coach road and ride over a good few peaks to get up Helvelyn.
Omg those wet rocks, I was holding on to my chair.
Love the place, I was married in St Olafs, the little church next to the Wasdale head.
Thats it, the ebikes going there.
Epic ride, it must have been cold, Steve put his gloves on, just keep it up guys, you are becoming the Topgear of ebikes.
half of that route is hike a bike, if not more! be a graft carrying the e bike.
Best video you've done yet for me... Really made me want to ride my bike right now👍
My Army green EMBN t-shirt is bloody awesome, goes superbly with my PenCott Greenzone and Badlands camo gear....You guys are legends!!!
Thanks for supporting the channel Barry!
Wow, what a beautiful place...I'll try to convince my friends and go there on spring..What a Legend 3 bars left !!!!!!!!!
Great vid 🤙🏻😎
LOVE THIS CHANNEL GUYS,AGHHHHH LOVE THESE WILD PLACES,,,JUST FANTASTIC PLACES,I RIDE NORTHUMBERLAND,, CHEVIOT HILL😁👍
Love the epic rides.
A great video, shame about the weather. Looking forward to seeing your Helvellyn climb as I'm planning to do that this summer ☺👍
“I am a machine!”
That’s what biking in the north will do for you.....way hey 👋
Great video, proper off road cycling weather, those surfaces are pure evil when it’s wet - punctures, sliding, big hits, deep water, glad you pointed that out for those preparing to go hell for leather downhill in the Lakes.
Not had the pleasure of an EMB ride yet but I’m revved up to try one ☝️
Amazing ride, some serious skills required for that.... Great video of an epic day out on the ebikes.
Thanks Derek 🤟
Great job Steve, no challenge to big for you mate : )
Great Video!!! defeating a true lakes classic on an ebike. We had this in the planning, but is seems you have beaten us to it :-D
Superb video lads.
This really shows the potential of a good quality ebike.
Wet and cold temps and still that range!
True as I stand, I've been in eco all day. I am a machine!! 😂😂 Legend
Another top video....thank gawd the clocks have moved, now I can go wherever I want in the Cairngorms after work and camp out...e-mtb, the best thing ever -what a time to be embracing this sea change in mtb'ing....I really pity the luddites, drive to ride, use batteries in all mod cons every day but have such a stunted mindset....I passed them all yesterday with a grin not a grimace...
Great video guys, I went for my first ride today I my new EMTB I’m thoroughly hooked, keep up the great content, awesome 😎
Rad! 🤟
Ben, what ebike do you have? I don't have an ebike yet, but am looking at getting the 2019 Bulls e-stream evo am 3 27.5+ with the new 750Wh battery. I'm in northern California with plenty of trails to ride.
burnx45 I got a Cube Stereo Hybrid 140 SL , it runs the Bosch CX with 500Wh. The first ride i did about 40km not to technical but still had 2 bars of power left, coming from my old analogue MTB I am surprised how well the bike rides even with the motor off.
Best video yet!
Really enjoyable
Thanks, great day, big challenge. Well done. Hard Knot Pass next?
Great Video..thx guys.
Specialized Kenevo Expert (504wh)
26 miles
4300ft climbing
Finished with 23% battery remaining so 5000ft easily achievable
Mixture of Eco & Trail
Riding Raven & Gorlech at Brechfa forest
You guys are having too much fun. 😎
I’m on the Giant E-trance SX size XL, im 295lbs, my bike is 55lbs plus gear and I brought an extra battery in my camel pack so maybe 365lbs total. On one 500wh battery I did 18.5 miles and 3,600ft of elevation on eco mode before I swapped batteries! We did 5150ft and 26 miles that morning. That’s just awesome! My friend has the blue E-Trance and she’s 150lbs including all her gear and she did the 5150ft on one battery on power level 2 of the 5 power levels and still had a whole battery led light when she was done. We both did parts of the Troy Lee single track at skyline in Corona, Ca.. simply amazing what these bikes can do!
epic adventure lads
Can you guys do a parody episode of the Grand Tour, but with bikes?
Great video👍 The lakes does have some great riding just done a 70k ride around keswick mix of road and bridal ways. 30% battery left on my Levo 460 battery.
Bejeesus..What do you weigh?
A really sypatic "friendly fire" ;)
Would the same ride be possible with a non e-bike?
I purchased a Yetti SB 150 about 6 months ago,, and last month I purchased a Commencal Meta 29er e-bike,, My beautiful Yeti is now collecting dust, but I am smiling everyday with my e-bike
yes i've done it and many others like it. quite a bit of this look is hike a bike so an e bike would be hard going, perfect for the massive slog up honnister though.
That looks awesome, but beyond me again..hopefully I will get to that level one day..
I fancy this ride next weekend. I'm on a Trek Rail 750w/h battery, do you reckon that's be enough or should I take charger & do as you did in Wasdale Head? TiA
Awesome video guys 👏
Shame it was so dry. Those tracks are so much better in the wet!
That was a proper flogger
What a beautiful...yet unforgiving landscape.
Omg guys crazy awesome ride, now I am wondering if I could have done that,,,wow
Another epic adventure. This is the beauty of e bikes. Btw, what kind of bike was Adam riding?

What rear tyre did Steve use #askembn , was it tubeless? Double down wall may have been a good idea and 100ml more fluid ? what are your thoughts on that ?
It really shocks me how little traffic this channel gets especially when you see how many cyclists are in the UK it's not like it's a small community.
I'll share this all over my Facebook and hope that people take the internet this is deserved, great video guys.
Thanks!
This channel is new, it will grow to the same size as GCN I'm sure.
For massive ascents, to save battery, is it better to push slowly in eco mode or have a faster cadence in trail mode?
Spin not grind is best for battery i believe.
Lots of things to consider. Battery size (performance)old vs new, rider weight, and trail. Rocky vs muddy. Issue with EMTB specially doing this kind of adventure is battery anxiety. Gotta plan ahead.
Lakes is life, lakes is love.
amazing..! but not running tubeless?
amazin! again pls
Great video!
Just a question, Adam said he was on eco mode... But high (standard) or medium?
He's riding a vitus! Quality bike
@@JCreole Why?
Amazing
OK - Just how many wheetabix did he have for breakfast? Climbing all that on Eco!
Well done adam
Great! 🤙
Respect for riding those Steve I live close to the lakes and know how gnarly it really is
Awesome! What is your Lake District eBike tour company called? Let me know, because if there is one, I'm coming over and bringing my friends. I've got a Shimano 8000 Motobecane bike and that trip looks wonderful.
I’m tackling the montytrax in the welsh hills 30 miles and 4500 plus feet on one battery in June 👌
BELTIN!
Great ride but I wonder how those motors do in all that water!
We’ve hiked it. Can’t imagine riding it. Nice one.
did this ride a few years ago, smashed my full face in half on the first descent and had to do the other 3 passes after! the ride was ok, first descent mega, rest stupid stone man made slabs apart from the odd nice section. Also a lot of this is hike a bike, how did you get on carrying them up blacksail? i was hurting up that just carrying my reign let alone an e bike.
how many amp hours are these batteries? What is the wattage of the motors?
6:10 it is not possible to have regenerative breaking on going down so you don't need to turn off the battery?!
Love these emtb adventure videos
Keep it up guys 👍
Cheers Sam 👍
To much hike a bike on that route for a heavy ebike, no wonder you had so much battery left.
Mind good job trying to keep up with AB.
EMBM Please could you answer this? why can you not just do most of the trail with the assistance off ? surely you don't use the motor for the whole journey? or is it just not possible to ride this kind of trail without assistance?
You can do - they ride fine downhill & on flat powered off and save that all important juice for the uphills 😀
I have to visit GB! My biggest climb with one battery was 1635 m in 18 km and after that 13 km trail run to the bottom.
I always wonder how the camera guys follows them? Dirt bike?
Hiya..what chest camera were you using?
Awesome content. But have you forgot to activate hypersmooth on the hero 7
Thats on the chesty?
I think I saw William Wallace chaseing you two but C,Mon Steve you could of done that entire ride in ECO surely LOL
love to do that but wouldn't no were to start
Biuti lugs boy's the zone is paresid the my paid the Sur of Chile boys nice bikes for viaj good descender bai men lucky 🍀 💯 🤘👏from chile 🇨🇱 🤣 👋😀😀👌.
I Love a challenge, but there comes a point when it's torture and not fun, that looked pretty close at times.
I bet it was such a relief and achievement at the end. looked grooling, well ridden guys.
Greta vid. Don't suppose you can post a .gpx file of the route can you? TIA
joss....
Hi. Do you have the gpx for this pls 🙂
