“What we do in life, echoes in eternity”
All time favorite quote from gladiator .
Fantastic !!! ❤
Beautiful Women! 😍
Pretty and wonderful! ❤
I prefer "what we do in life, echoes in eternity" but whatever floats your boat.
captain timmy lmao my bad Timmy I got two tiny words mixed up. I’ll go ahead and edit my comment . Che cazzo 😂 You could have nicely told me that I worded it wrong instead of being a smart ass about it. either way you say it it is the same exact message
Rômulo Wingnut thank you!
The "Gladiator" music that accompanies this just makes it better. Makes it such a bada$$ moment!!
Gladiator is Still Russell Crowe’s most iconic and best film to date 🔥
One of the best movies ever made!!! Ridley Scott is genius!!!
Alien, Thelma and Louise, Blade Runner, Gladiator... Genius indeed.
no best director, and no best original screenplay, just best picture, anyone could have thought that Gladiator couldn't win, but now it shows it's a masterpiece, and we can't forget the great performance of Russell Crowe, just magnificent!!
Oh fuck you
Billie Bob Streep shut up
Diego Pisfil Why should he ? YOU are the minority here.
moazzamlxxl How very childish of you.....🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪
Lets be honest Joaquin Phoenix was even better in that film
Ridley, Russell, and Joaquin should've been stepping to the stage too!
And Hans Zimmer
They have their own categories.
People who hate Gladiator know nothing, sorry.
It was one of the weaker best picture winners
Inigo90ful Doug Walker aka the Nostalgia Critic hates Gladiator. Makes me want to strangle him.
Uhum.... Shakespeare in Love. Gladiator is fantastic in my opinion.
That's your shitty opinion, sorry.
Inigo90ful Gladiator is the best movie ever created, period.
A classic film with so many tense and courageous moments. Russell, you were the Gladiator, no doubt.
Gladiator by a country mile.
One of the best films ever made!
Is the best film ever made
@@amorokai7187 Not really
@Diego Pisfil But Gladiator is my favorite history movie of all time
Well I didn't like Gladiator
Gladiator is good, but some of the effects don’t hold up, whereas Ang Lee’s picture is still amazing. Not the mention there were some moments of cheese in Gladiator- I still like it but not best picture.
ridley should have won director
Agreed
Philip Moore no, i don't agree
Although Steven Soderbergh made Oscar History for being nominated on 2 films for best director....one for Traffic (which he won) and Erin Brockovich, I must say that his win is still an upset against Ridley Scott...
Philip Moore I don't agree, gladiator was boring and horrible about killing people
Pretty much like Jaws that was nominated for best picture though Spielberg wasn't... If that's the best movie who was the leading man that made it possible if not the director?
Branko Lustig is an inspiration: A Holocaust survivor who later turned into a 2-time Oscar-winning producer behind two of the greatest films ever made.
He died yesterday...
@adamzanzie he also became my inspiration
Gladiator is without a doubt one of the greatest movies of all time, the only thing that could have made this oscar awards better would have been to give Ridley Scott the Best Director Oscar
Are people insane? Gladiator was best film that year
Whitney Pyant shut up, it was one of the worst films
Whitney Pyant I agree
Agreed!
@@diegopisfil614 it was pretty boring and shitty. I left the theater Midway
@@diegopisfil614 ahahaha nope.
The film received generally favorable reviews from critics, with praise for the acting, direction, visuals, screenplay, action sequences, musical score and the production values.
One of the most deserving best picture winners ever!!! I will forever love Gladiator!!!!
Just came from watching the film for the first time! Well deserved!!
Michael Douglas was probably a little shocked. Traffic had won every award it was nominated for (editing, screenplay, supporting actor, director), EXCEPT Best Picture
richfictionfighter They shouldn't make anyone associated with a nominee be presenters. It's insulting to Michael Douglas to have to present to another movie, and arrogant to have Nicholson presenting it to a movie he starred in. However, I thought it was an epic way to wrap up his career.
Reminds me of when Red Dead Redemption 2 won pretty much every category at the game awards and then best game went to God of War.
@@88mphsssthat’ opinion’s a bit dramatic.
Hans Zimmer soundtracks playing while all those beasts were on the stage. Jesus that gives me chills
yeah and he didnt win he should have won it
I was shocked when Hanz was not the winner.
It's one of the most amazing soundtracks ever!
I'm sorry but Gladiator is pretty much a perfect movie, Traffic is excellent but...goddamn Gladiator is so good.
So perfect you can see the camera departments so many times.

Gladiator is such an amazing movie.
I wished Sir.Ridley Scott would have won the Oscar that night...now he is 80+ plus..hope he wins an Oscar soon for THE LAST DUEL...
Ridley Scott and an excellent cast successfully convey the intensity of Roman gladiatorial combat as well as the political brewing beneath.
This film is one of the best films ever made. Period. Not the best, but top 10 easily
Gladiator brought back the Hollywood's tradition of making outstanding epics, like Quo Vadis, The Robe, Spartacus, Lawrence of Arabia, Ben Hur (the greatest film ever in my opinion).
It was well deserved.
Go studing the movie history, man. Really. You are trying to steal all the merits from the movie Braveheart (1995).
leonardodp34 I'm sorry, i just dont think that Braveheart (wich is a picture that i like) is in the same league of those i mentioned. But ok, we can insert Braveheart because it won an Oscar and has its great moments.
Robson1898vascao If Braveheart is in the same league or not is another story. Face the facts instead facing what you want to believe.
I'm not saying which movie is better. But facts are facts. Before Bravehart, the epic genre was dead. And this genre was already around again when Gladiator came out.
***** Before Bravehart the epic genre was dead, and this genre was already around again when Gladiator came out. Perfect.
One of the few times in Academy history when they got it memorably right.
Wrong: Joaquin Phoenix deserved the Oscar, and didn't get it.
@@empiricwisdom7902 your opinion is wrong, factually
Nope, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon should've won
Bad Cornflakes it’s not
Empiric Wisdom nope, even if he is an amazing actor didnt deserve it that year.
"Strength and Honor!"
TO END THE WAR ON EPICS:
Braveheart rekindled the epic genre
Gladiator made epics the norm again
Not even close to Apocalypse Now.
Ben Hur
Brave heart
Gladiator
Lord of the rings Return of the king these are the best
Period movie to win Best pic
Lord of the Ring a Period movie...ROTFL
Everyone can have their opinion over this movie.....
But Gladiator is not just an amazing movie, is a magnificent work, very well done...
A real man! Full of courage and bravery, a Soldier, full of strength an Honor, it shows a man, as a Husband and a lover, a dedicated and respectful Father.. It shows a man that is loyal to his values and principles, and not easily corrupted by power, any men or women. One who will fight his way through life and wont give up easy. One who will master his fears and master his weaknesses, turn his life disasters into fuel for his future.
Russel Crowe did an amazing job as an artist representing all of this.
For you all out there who are big fans, I salute you with STRENGTH and HONOR!
No,it's just a good movie. Not more not less.
You have seen few films, or a lot of shit movies.
Once again your opinion your statements. There three kinds of ppl in this world. Ones that create art, ones that simply see and others that analyze every single aspect and enjoy deep the meaning in movies.
@@jalejo7 And there's two types more: the ones that make historic movies and where can see people in jeans, and the ones who like these pieces of shit and think they are good movie while they haven't watch a good movies in their life (like movies by Hitchcock, or Truffaut, or Godard, or Kurosawa, or Lynch, or Kim Ki-duk, or Von Trier, or Wilder, or Wyler, or Fritz Lang). Now, please, shut the fuck up and go make a cinema culture.
Matteo J. Peluso you need a chill pill, anger management classes and some happiness in you life, all the bitterness is tragic and sad
This win is deserved. The movie is so emotional and intriguing--and the acting, the acting was outstanding. I wish Oliver Reed had still been alive. Oh, and the soundtrack to this is amazing!
Gladiator a cinematic masterpiece
I don't care what anyone says, Gladiator is an awesome and moving spectacle and deserved its Oscar.
Ive watched the Oscars for years. The only time for any award I jumped out of my chair and cheered. I was so pumped!
I could watch Gladiator movie a guzillions times and still not be bored of it at all.
It’s so wild that Traffic won every award except for Best Picture and then they get Michael Douglas to present the award of all people?!
It was possible, considering it won Best Director, Best Supporting Actor, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Editing.
one of the best movies ever :)
One of the few best picture winners I see every year.
Gladiator was better choice for Best Picture than other films.
honestly i came here to see joaqin
Should have been for Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. 🐉
DreamWorks had a good academy awards year back to back with American Beauty and Gladiator won best picture.
I LOVE him saying Strength and Honour at the end.
This movie deserved to win face it. It's an epic movie. There's a movie like Traffic 4 times a year, it was nothing special.
Brett Guyer it didn't, it was overrated
Gladiator isn't better than Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon
So it had to win because it was epic? Just because of the genre? It's a bad movie, it's very poor written and bad directing, the fight on the arena was shockingly bad.
@Diego Pisfil what's that?
@@hckingking It is.
If the field was expanded back then:
Gladiator (Winner)
Almost Famous
Traffic
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?
Memento
Erin Brockovich
Chocolat
Memento was nominated in 2001.
That movie was memorable in so many scenes and the music soundtrack in the background throughout made me feel like I was in Rome. I bet Julius Caesar is smiling from above.
traffic is totally well done!! it's a masterpiece... but gladiator is magic, it's unique!!! i doesn't get tired to watch it
Then you didn't really watch it. Gladiator was a masterpiece. It far transcends the label, "entertaining."
Gladiator updates the traditional American genre, (the epic costume film), through cutting-edge technology. Its hero, a noble and unselfish man, is a type movies have celebrated for generations, but the modern methods used to create the world he lives in give viewers a new kind of spectacle for the new millennium.
I'm really happy "Gladiator" won Best Picture! "Traffic" was good but overrated and "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" was really good but "Brokeback Mountain" and "Life of Pi" were better. "Gladiator" is a masterpiece!
I also think Ridley Scott should've won Best Director for creating this masterpiece!
Did I ask you for your opinion? NO! SO GET LOST!
@Diego Pisfil your mom sucks
I actually just watched Traffic for the first time a couple of weeks ago, and I must say, it was one of the best experiences I've ever had. I literally just turned it on, not really knowing what to expect, and it turned out fantastically brilliant. As for the other Best Picture nominees, I still need to see Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. The other three were splendid, and I think I would've been satisfied with Gladiator or Traffic winning Best Picture.
Diego Pisfil i bet you watch crappy sitcoms
Diego Pisfil go fuck yourself
well deserved recognition- such a great movie.
Oh Man Ridley Scott is such an amazing director, i hope his oscar will come someday!
Wow. Just the time when Kirk Douglas was youg. Very ironic him there, because he was in 'Spartacus'.
We named our ultimate frisbee team the Gladiators and we always did the "What do in our lives, echoes in eternity" speech before a game. I miss my gladiators...
STRENGTH AND HONOR!!!
I was happy this won. It was a damn good movie.
RIP Branko Lustig
OH MY GOD ITS RUSSELL CROWE!
This was an awesome year! It was very competitive! Erin Brock and crouching Tiger were both great films !
Deserved! Fantastic film! Crouching Tiger would have also been acceptable.
Gladiator (2000)
Oscar winners
Best Picture
Best Actor (Russell Crowe)
Best Visual Effects
Best Costume Design
Best Sound Mixing
Thanks
Watching right now, I love this movie. ""Gladiator".
I love Gladiator, but this genre (hey, Spartacus) has been done by Hollywood since the silent movies... It's easier to the Academy give an award for a well-known type of movie instead of a masterpiece that was not done in their studios - and they'll never understand how magnificent is Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.
Gladiator was epic.
background music is the GREATEST
Gladiator IS one of a kind... just because there's other epics similar, it's still a great movie.
A spectacular action drama that brings us face to face with our blood lust and other powerful emotions that draw out the best and worst in us.
Ridley Scott just makes awesome movies. Black hawk down, Gladiator
...Thelma & Louise, Alien, Blade Runner...
The son of Spartacus presents Gladiator for Best Picture
Kind of funny that Michael Douglas is announcing this, seeing as how his dad played Spartacus.
Strength and Honor
Como se llama la canción que suena cuando recogen el oscar?
I really like Gladiator; it's a powerful epic with beautiful music, fantastic performances and elegant designs. However, the Academy has given the Oscar to one too many of those epic historical dramas that the better choice would have been Traffic. That film didn't need heavy design and special effects, it relied on haunting cinematography, gritty performances, and eerie music to be authentic and modern that is more relatable today.
I still can't believe Hans and Lisa lost!!
Hans Zimmer was Oscar nominated for scoring "Gladiator," but he made the final cut. Sadly, co-
composer Lisa Gerrard who was fired three times from the film and didn't make the cut.
Don't care what some of you may say or think but this is a damn good movie!!!
So good gladiator awesome film of all time
Interesting - at 4:25 right when the last producer mentions Ridley Scott, the lady behind Ridley starts shaking her head like she's annoyed, notices the camera, stops immediately, and nervously scratches her neck. I'd love to know the backstory there!
She was on crack
Nancy Franzoni whose not in the mood and all she wants to do is simply sleep, relax, refresh and
revitalize. Tomorrow it's gonna be another day.
THANK YOU!GOD' BLESS
..... GOD' BLESS Oz'Ni.....
Lol, lol, lol, slow it down xDD, Gladiator is my favorite film of all time and definitely one of the greatest ever made. I think you had to reply to some other guy.
0:47 a cinematic masterpiece.
Gladiator is the most epic movie!! One of the best cinematic projects ever!!
Gladiator probably deserved it but out of the five nominees I watch Chocolat and Erin Brocovich at least once a year, I have never watched Crouching Tiger I haven't watched Traffic since in the theaters in 2000, and Gladiator I watched it three times in 2001 maybe one time in 2008 or 2009 and I don't have the urge to watch it any time soon.
Por que só os produtores subiram pra receber o prêmio?
The most epic film of all times.
My favorite movie in childhood!
Mine too
One of the best pictures.
One of my favourite movies ever
The best sound ever
Michael Douglas is breathing fucking loud here. LOL!
Gladiator is awesome i love ancient history movies and gladiator is best roman empire movie ever
Never understood why Ridley, Joaquin and Russell wasn't up there with them.
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon should have won HANDS DOWN
btw forgot to tell you that I realy respect your argument, I dont entirely agree with it, but you gave great points about Gladiator, and did not bash on CTHD. Very smart and respectable. I can see why CTHD would not apply to everyone,.
strength and honor!
I will never understand why Ridley Scott was not nominated...horrible oversight! Also, Joachim Phoenix deserved a nomination, at least, for supporting actor. Lastly, a nomination would have been a wonderful nod to the work of Oliver Reed. His portrayal of Proximo was brilliant and an integral charcter in the film.
+Winifred Norwood Ridley Scott was nominated for director
Joachin Phoenix was nominated for this movie
Can anyone help me finding the name of that theme song was playing while they won!
Nasser Al-Rezeni the name of that song is Maximus the merciful, check it out
Charles Toledo thanks man you didn't ignore my old comment, I really appreciate that!
Best movie of all time
its not the best movie of all time when there's Titanic, the green mile, shawshank redemption, forrest gump, pulp fiction, lord of the rings, terminator 2 ?
***** woah there
Daniel Plainview am i wrong ?
Second to the Gladiator, sorry
+Gencturk92 Seriously Titanic ?? It is a corny and a cringe worthy movie. Even Leo considers it as his worst movie ...
Charlton Heston had "Ben Hur Story of the Christ". Gene Hackman has "The French Connection". Orson Wells had "Citizen Kane".
What do all these actors & more have in common? They produce a masterpiece that could never be duplicated in the entirety of their lifes work. Russel Crow has "Gladiator".
My fav movie of all time.
Ridley Scott was not feeling the first speaker 😂
Gladiator was shot in chronological order
I TOTALLY AGREE. BY A MILE THE BEST :)
