    I enjoy finding short videos filled with knowledge. Creators making 15-20 minute videos on this subject trying to sound smart don’t impress me. Thanks for the video!

    Just used the down and dirty method using a screw and it worked absolutely perfectly. Didn't have to go to Amazon for a balance cone and was done in about 12 minutes. Thank you!!!

    I have been doing this method for years. Works great. No vibration issues when blades are engaged!!

    I wasted 8 bucks on one of these little blade balancers and found that it binds too easily...i did the nail in the wall trick and it is MUCH more sensitive and accurate.

    I have used the nail technique but found one of these balancers at a thrift store. I will probably continue to use the nail but I think the balancer is really pretty. I'll put it on my mantel as a work of art!!

    Thank you for this. I am Concerned about maintaining my finish mower. Considered spending on a balancer. I would rather not, everting is pretty tight with the economy right now. With this tip I got a better understanding and am confident I can maintain my own blades with equipment I’ve got on hand. Thanks again

    I can’t believe I never thought of using a nail to balance them 😅
    Because I didn’t balance them once, I damaged the bearings and had to replace them.

    I found the plastic cones are better(slippery at peg tip) put a spacer like a nut on the tip of the cone and a bulls eye spirit level on top,you can see left right balance as well as front back easily.

    If you want to do something more accurate and faster and own an angle grinder and vice then get a long bolt or long socket that fits tight in the hole. Then put the blade with bolt resting on top the jaws of your vice so the bolt can can roll one way or the other along the top. when you figure out which side is heavy just tighten vice and grind away. Check by loosen vice again repeat as necessary. No need to move blade back and forth from nail or balancing cone back to vice to grind.

    Balancing a filthy blade with buildup such as the one in the video, is 100% wrong. When that buildup flies off during the first time you spin it up, you instantly have an imbalance. Clean the blade of all debris and use a bushing to give yourself a round hole in centre. This is critical. The nail method is subject to irregularities in the blade inside the hole and is inaccurate and may cause you to either create an imbalance, or have a different centre of balance every time you position it on the screw and never get it balanced.
    Also it looks like your balancer is worn so bad, getting anything balanced on that would be a miracle.
    Note: if it’s worth having tools to maintain your equipment, it’s just as important to maintain your tools.

      thanks! I watched it. I am impressed. More precise for sure. I just don't think a lawnmower blade needs to be so precise. That dude was in a laboratory! haha! Technically, every little piece of grass/dirt that unevenly sticks to the blade could affect the balance if you are going to be this precise. However, precision is never a bad thing I suppose....

    • @000basin
      @000basin 2 роки тому +1

      They had to disapprove the nail method or else who'll buy MAG-1000. Unless perhaps sharpening a propeller heading to Mars. I say just lube the nail surface so there is no friction and a bit of common sense will get you enough balance.

  • @Liccarus
    @Liccarus 6 місяців тому +1

    I really don't recommend the nail/screw method, the reason being is the nail is located ABOVE the actual center of rotation of the blade. Therefore adjustments are inherently incorrect. The center of the hole, or as close as possible is the true center of rotation.

    • @jbonnell1117

      You need to balance the blade/s as precisely as you can. It sounds like your balancer may be inaccurate or damaged. I balance my aircraft propellers with the umteenth part of precision. It make an enormous difference when done and it will be the same for your mower deck/ spindles/ bearings when the blades are precisely balanced. I am working on a design for a balancer that will be extremely sensitive and easy to make at home.
      To keep your mower deck from being flogged to pieces, it is essential that the blades are precisely balanced.

  • @397coney7

    Those balancers are terribly inaccurate. I could put my blade on it ten different times and I’ll get ten different results. Not sure why they even sell them.

    Never notch! Bad advice!!!, it sets up point for a stress fracture to start.
    If you need to remove a lot take it from the end with a file. Anyone wonder how a accurate his level is after banging it around like that?

  • @billstmaxx

    DO NOT "grind a notch" as suggested here.. a mower blade spins over 2000 RPM.. the notch could cause a catastrophic blade explosion and send metal fragments all over the place

      @@JeffsLittleEngineService you know they balanced tires on bubble balancers for years. But now they spin balance them. I think anything is better using a nail. I have found that you can lay a 1/4 extension on a flat service , then lay your blade over it at the center of the mounting hole.
      I can assure you the day is coming when blades will be balanced by spinning them up to speed. Have you thought about how much centrifuge force is generated in a blade going 200mph.
      Even a 90 to 200 dollar balancer is still primitive. But a nail is not even close to what is needed. If you're trying to save money get you a roller skate bearing and put a bolt through the center and rest you blade on it.
