Ving Rhames doesn’t get the flowers he deserves as an overall actor. Yes Baby Boy was one of his best work but THIS role proved that he can definitely step outside the box & be comfortable with playing any role given. He ate this up & left no crumbs. A true legend
He’s such a phenomenal actor. The fact that he can play a gangster, a reformed ex-convict, and a gay drag queen proves his versatility 🎭👏🏾
@@niabelizaire3596Same with Wesley in Two Wong Fu ❤
@@niabelizaire3596 he also played in a Don King biopic; as Don King. Not to mention, he also played as Sonny Liston in another movie. 💯
@@niabelizaire3596 is there such a thing as a straight drag queen 😂. Don’t mind me I am just being pedantic I get what you mean :)
When Wanda offered up Nikki for drugs made me so mad. 🤦🏾♀️
I was so furious and mortified
Drugs will take your soul away smh
Exactly i dont feel bad for laughin at her antics and the “bless her!” scene bc of that😅
I know right!!
Addiction is truly a sickness
Parents disrespecting tf out of their kids and expecting respect will always be wild to me.
Yeah it sickens me when a parent does that unfortunately I know this very well
It’s preposterous 😭
Same with my mom she think she can put hands on me when I tell her the truth
And they wonder why they end up in nursing homes.
As parents you reap what you sow into your children.
Say what you want about Robert Townsend, but the movies he produced/directed/written has always been FUBU. Give this man his flowers.
Wow I didn’t know Townsend was whispered about.
So true
I love him! I had a huge crush on him growing up 😂
Robert Townsend doesn't get enough recognition as a Black filmmaker/creative.
Preach
The ending with Nikki & Holiday in Paris brings tears to my eyes every time 🫶🏾
Yeah me too 😥
Robert Townsend was ahead of his time with this film. It was so brave of Ving to take this step. It was a Honorable move. ❤ RT also directed the 5 heart beats ❤
Wow Robert Townsend directed this
@@KnowledgeSeeker78491 Sí ☺️
Robert Townsend also directed Hollywood Shuffle, Meteor Man, B.A.P.S., & Carmen A Hip-Hopera.

I'm going to hell for admitting this, but I always laughed at Wanda's "BLESS HER" meltdown because she was being too extra.
😂😂😂 Exactly Doing too much
My soul used to leave my body when that scene came on !!😭😭🤣
We’re WARRIOR WOMEN!!!!😂
Right 😂😂😂
😂😂😂😂 we all going to hell for laughing at that scene
Nikki wasn’t being disrespectful intentionally and she been through a a lot because of her mothers poor decision making
And of course, when the daughter stands up to her abusive, trifling ass Mama, the mom has the nerve to slap her. Child, couldn't be me, because me and her would be fist fighting at that point. I had abusive parents growing up, and let's just say, I wasn't afraid to hit back. Did it almost get me kicked out the house? Oh you bet, and I was ready to go too. I would dare say the only reason why they let me stay was that I threatened to call law enforcement on them and have them thrown in jail and my siblings and I taken away. But none the less, no child should ever have to be put in a position where they don't have respectable adults looking after them. You want respect, be respectable. If you live trifling and busted, don't expect for people, including children, to have respect for you.
I agree. And Im sorry you have to endure that ❤
@@forthenostalgia thank you girl, and shout out to you for your excellent content ❤️. It was hell, but you know what, God made a warrior out of me to be able to handle this crazy world now, so it worked out for my good in the end amen
@@jlcii I'm so sorry that you had to go through that I hope you are doing okay
That's usually how it is not just this situation with Nikki and Wanda but black parents who are physically verbally and emotionally abusive get the nerve to feel disrespected when their kids stand up to them
@nogalistanineties9237 exactly
They just slapping this girl all throughout this movie 😂😂😂
She had em all coming 🤣😭

Nahhh but Ving got RANGE to go from holiday to Melvin then to bubbles is insane
I love how this movie low-key breaks down masculinity and how two can have a relationship. And it not be intimate nor sexual- both came together because they loved this little Girl. And they loved the woman who wasn’t able to be her mother. So they cared enough to assume that role. I always thought that was beautiful; especially being a little girl raised by single father. Ps. When they went to the store to get her pads.. and they tried to secretly grab those condoms.. I was tickled. ❤
Yes that’s why I always loved this movie
Blue taught me about microwave bitches. Holiday taught me to tell folks to call Johnny Cochran since he’s a miracle worker 😂
Holiday and Silas could’ve been a sitcom spinoff 😂
Listen....Holliday walked so Big Freedia could fly
💯💯💯💯💯
I love this movie. I was Nicki at her age unfortunately and I identified with her a lot. Luckily my sister was my Holiday. This movie made me very emotional. 😢
🙏🏾
✨🙏🏾💕
❤
Those wigs were public enemy number 1😭🤣 a shame and a scandal🤦🏾♀️
What was acceptable then simply can't compare to modern wig technology 🫣 it was a different time 😂!!!
I kinda believe that Wanda actually wanted to get clean that last time she came around. But it’s so sad she died before she could really do it.
Honey this movie will always be a bop, when you really pay attention its hella gems in this. All star cast.
Definitely
I cant believe i seen this movie as a kid. It hits different watching it as an adult.
Yes, It made me love Holidays character even more. He was such an amazing character
Holiday and Nikki😭😭😭 One of my true favs. This hits so many beats especially for early 2000.
The dynamic duo 🥰
Yes
I remember this movie from my childhood. Crazy how it’s such a hood classic given how few LGBTQ representation we ever see
I absolutely love your channel!!! And this movie, I didn’t realize the trauma all parties suffered until watching it with adult eyes. Niki really turned out better than most little girls would have if they were in that situation and Ving played the hell out of his role.
Niki was blessed. She lost one and gained two more that would go to war for her.
Ving Rhames acted down in this movie! I absolutely love it!
Holiday and Silas was my favorite “odd-couple” ! They put their differences aside for Nikki and I love that.
My favorite line out this movie is when Blue calls Wanda a “microwave B” I been calling everyone that fits the description that since lol.
So I never seen this movie, Primm did cover it though, but man Ving Rhames has range frfr, can go from Melvin from Baby Boy to Mister Man from Rosewood to Holiday from Holiday heart to Cobra Bubbles from Lilo and Stitch…man he has range
Ok
Sooo, I have a crush on 🤩 on ole Ving Rhames! He has to be extremely secure in his masculinity to play Holiday. Versatility like that takes mad talent.
Holiday Heart, Baby Boy, Pulp Fiction, Mission Impossible, Lilo & Stitch, Ving Rhames has range. He is very underrated.
Nikki was very grown for her age, but it didn't surprised me considering that she was raising herself and taking care of her mother.
Even as a kid this movie got to me 🙏🏾🙏🏾
I like the VCR graphic while seeing the clips, it's a very nice touch. 😊
Glad you like it 😊
@@forthenostalgia Keep the VHS/VCR legacy alive, girl. 😁✊
12:27 the wig needs a Oscar 😂😂😂😂
The wig was laid though 💇🏾♀️
@@forthenostalgia lol sure was lol lol
The way this movie, Baby Boy, and Love & Basketball used to play on rotation on BET when I was growing up lmao >>>
Yes Ving Rhames definitely doesn’t get the recognition he deserves as an actor. This really showed his range & he killed it! This is a sad reality for a lot of black children with parents on drugs. Great review as always
Ving is one of the greatest actors of all time. Viola is incredible as well. This movie was so good. BET played this 800 times and I watched it each and every time lmaooo
Alfre Woodard plays a good addict down to the look and all
This movie lives rent free in my heart ❤️
I was once Nikki but it was worse. I would've loved to have had a Holiday Heart. All that pain made me the mom I am today tho 💚💪🏿
❤
❤️🙏🏾
🙏🏾💕
❤❤❤
Somebody on tiktok had me cracking up when they said that they thought he was patti labelle 😂
😂😂😂
Comparing a man to a dark skinned woman real comedy
This movie came out when I was in High School and was sad but in my 40s I get emotional and teary watching this bc I have seen how addiction ravaged my own family 😭😭
Wanda's makeup artist deserves an Oscar, Emmy, Tony, etc, ..,,,chile she looked horrible and played the he!! out of this role.😮
This movie hit different if you really had a mama that was on drugs
for real
I absolutely loved this movie as a kid. There were some things that I didn’t pick up on such as Fisher’s family (and possibly police force) not knowing that Fisher was gay until the funeral and how it was Holiday’s mother that said to lock him up. For some reason, I thought he was helping someone else’s mom. Nikki was definitely grown for her age and it wasn’t her fault. Holiday was definitely healed because the statement you made about past trauma is true. He realized that Nikki is not his mother so the outcome would be different. Addiction of any form is horrible and I hate that Wanda fell prey to drugs. She was so far down the rabbit hole and didn’t see herself climbing out of it which lead to her passing. And the point about Silas being homophobic but didn’t mind getting money from the lgbtq plus community is top tier! Holiday and Silas are the “couple” we didn’t know we needed! Good analogy/review!! BTW, Nikki was graduating from elementary school.
I’ll be waiting on the next vid and hint but do you have any of the Rush Hour movies on your list???
He is a well rounded actor
Nicki totally reminds me of myself when I was a child my father is a drug addict because of this my childhood was horrible he was in and out of jail
Silas was not the owner of the bar.
He has clients there.
I used to fall asleep to this movie every night for like a month straight. I couldn’t sleep without the tv or radio on at one point and this movie soothed me.
The funeral scene was so sad
Actually Holiday Heart came out in Dec 2000 and Baby Boy came out in June 2001 so he played Holiday first...
I'm shocked the movie just pushes Silas in as comedy as if he didn't pull a gun on Holiday and give drugs to Wanda causing her to spiral.
I wish they gave retroactive Oscar’s because Ving Rhames definitely deserves one!
I agree with everything you said. This movie is so deep holiday was such a selfless character his spirit was simply beautiful ❤️ the bond between the three of them especially him and Nikki was so special because Holiday was sent by God that night to them I believe. They needed him 🥺🤞🏾
Someone really watched this movie, and this review and said Baby Boy is Ving Rhames best role…
That’s like saying Like Mike is Morris Chestnut’s best role. Please give our legends their respect and due.
This is one of my all time favorite movies. Please do another Robert Townsend classic like The Five Heartbeats next!
Love the review!! ❤ Ving played Holiday before he played Melvin. I admire his range as an actor for sure
Thank you 😊 Ving Rhames is so talented!
Girl you left no crumbs in this review ❤
I didn't know this move even existed.. until earlier in the year 😮. HOWEVER, you ALSO deserve your 🌺🌹🌺❤
Thank you 😊
I am SO glad you did a review on this movie. BET used to have this on repeat and I watched it everytime.
This movie has a very special place in my heart and I love this movie the more I watch it. Your commentary is TOP TIER!!
Honey Nikki looks so good now. Like she’s was pretty but now she’s extra gorgeous.
OMG! You are outdoing yourself with this video. I love the new pop ups with little information and facts. It reminds of Pop-up video from MTV. It's sad that great content we should be getting on TV or streaming services like Hulu is here on UA-cam or highly condensed on Tik Tok. I just seen one of the best hip hop documentaries that talks about its 50th anniversary and all the connections with pop culture right here on YT. You and Primm's Hood Cinema make me enjoy and have the time of my life watching content (both by myself and with friends). I would love to see y'all collaborate one day. Keep up the great work & you shine ! 👍👍
Thank you 😊 Primm is so dope!
@@forthenostalgiahis sarcastic voice be cracking me up 😂
Yes
I absolutely loved Holiday Heart! Had no business watching at the age I first saw it but it definitely opened up eye to womanhood, acceptance and true love! Great movie friend!
I loved ving in this movie, but my cousins ruined the moms death scene from rewinding it and laughing 😅
I’ve watched this movie so so so much. Definitely certified platinum in my family’s household. He played an ex-con and a drag queen within a year. THE RANGE
This literally has been and will forever be my favorite movie of all time!!!!!!!!!! Will literally quote it word for word.
Only saw this once I believe.. thank you Nostalgia for this gem of a break down! Hugs from an Afro in Asia 🌺
Everybody in this movie killed it🔥
Sugar, you know we all cutting onions when this movie is on.😅😂❤ I LOVE this movie. Always gets to my heart.
I tend to not watch films LGBT+ centered because it usually just panders and not really get into the gritty and humanity of a person, but this film was BEAUTIFUL and I loved this film. I cried so dang hard it's crazy.
I just found this channel and love these recaps. I looked through some of the comments and I’m not sure if this was mentioned but Silas didn’t own the club he was just serving(selling) there that’s why he was always there.
Give YOU your flowers cant eat my food without playing one of yo videos 😂🐐
Found this DVD in Walmart...had never heard of it.....one of my all time favorites....the funeral scene is epic
Holiday Heart was based on a play by Cheryl L. West, directed by Robert Townsend. Robert De Niro and Cheryl West were producers..
Even when I was a kid I would cry cause hood true stories would just hit different I feel like age don’t matter it hits different when you from da hood and witness stuff like dis at a young age
Ving Rhames received a lot of criticism for playing Holiday. Fun Facts: Ving Rhames & Alfre Woodard were also in Go Tell It On The Mountain & Ving Rhames & Mykelti Williamson were also in Con-Air. Can we please get reviews on the following movies:
Go Tell It On The Mountain
Hollywood Shuffle
Wild Cats

This is my absolute favorite Ving Rhames movie. It’s sad but has comedic moments.
I love the humorous side of this movie because she truly needed them at the moment. The support was real. Great movie 👍🏾
25:51 “jody lil jody” lol lol vin for ever kicking ass
I never knew that Silas owned the club.
He didn't.
She got that wrong.
Blue says the owner's name when he's complaining about the owner being late on paying them.
I love your videos analyses. Could you do “Why do fools fall in Love?”
I love your content. Spotlighting the hood classics, that we grew up with and love.
21:24 see i always thought they were trying to get condoms for themselves. I was always confused cause it seemed like they were sleeping with eachother.
Real quick I had to pause this 5 minutes in because honey child you are doing a fabulous job already I see that you got everybody name and their current pictures at the bottom of the screen girl you are doing the damn thing keep up the good work I'm here for it since your day one video and you are doing a phenomenal job I can't wait for the next one I can't even give a suggestion on what video to play next because girl you didn't beat me to it and I haven't seen a lot of these movies and years but when you do your review that's all I need and I feel like I've watched this video and these movies all over again I'm so waiting for you to do "a time to kill" though cuz I know when you get there and I feel you coming up on it real quick and my heart is racing but keep up the great work and I'm here for you every step of the way🎉
Thank you so much 😊💕
Ving is awesome I have respect for him getting so into this character. I love Holiday.
4:52 hollering!!!!!
Cute editing. Pop-up video vibes.
This is perfect. Right after your "People Under The Stairs" video I was struggling to remember "What was that movie with Ving Rhames being so sweet?"
Thank you so much!
You have great taste in Movie and your reviews are so stellar! ❤
Honestly, you have a lot of wisdom from your life experiences. I can tell by your words and the things you notice in these movies.
Also, it's so interesting to get introduced to movies I never knew they existed.
Thank you so much for covering this hidden gem, this is one of my favorite movies of all time and it aged gracefully. 🥰
Thank you for these reviews girl! Your point of view is very refreshing as opposed to other channels. Not hating on anyone else, but yours feel super genuine and like I’m watching the movie with my bestie or cousin! Thank you for all your black girl magic💛💛💛
This is my movie and I thoroughly enjoyed youyou diving deep into it
Oh yes! This was my movie & I too still watch it to this day! Ving Rhames is so underrated! He did an amazing job in this film, so did Alfre Woodward as she is also underrated. The whole cast was good & this movie deserved an Oscar. They don’t make actors like this anymore. 😩
i LOOOOOVED this movie growing up
So excited to see you cover this one! It was one of ny favorite movies growing up.
yess! thank you for doing this movie. an underrated classic! as always a great review.
I Iove your videos, I’ve been going through a rough time recently and when I sit down and watch your videos it just makes me forget about everything. Thank you
Now u know i was in here waitin😂
This is the best review. I absolutely love this movie . So many lessons about love .
You did your thing on this video sis❤❤ I appreciate you so much this was always playing in my house growing up
Just watching this review shattered my heart like the first time I watched this movie. Good stuff. Hope you do one for 'Fresh' or 'Dope' down the line though those two are on very opposite ends of the vibes spectrum.
Showgirls(1995), Fresh(1994) or 187(1997) should be another great upcoming review. Just imagine how the reception of the review would be especially with either of those 3 movies.
The fact I grew up watching both baby boy and holiday heart i didn't know ving rhames Melvin was holiday heart until I was older and saw the name in the credits
I love this knew upload schedule, going back to back banger after banger
