  • Choosing an avocado is actually really easy, if you know what you're looking for.
    In this video, I will show you how you can confidently choose a ripe avocado at the grocery store.
    Please note that this video is specifically for hass avocadoes, and not those big green avocados - those are a different variety, and I may make a different video to show you how to choose those ones.

    I don't squeeze its not fair coz ur bruising it just like the other people is doing. If you want to to squeeze just press gently. . But the best way You just look for a not green avocado, peel off the stem and if brown its ripe. If you buy green they ripen within 2 days in a brown bag.

    • @TC-vl9ij
      @TC-vl9ij 9 місяців тому +6

      Partly correct. Yes, don't squeeze w/ fingertips as it WILL cause bruising. Use full length of one finger to roll over avocado side to side. This will give you an idea of internal flesh consistency. 2nd DO NOT take stem off. This WILL cause browning to inside flesh under stem area.

    • @marlenelb3857
      @marlenelb3857 9 місяців тому

      @@TC-vl9ij Thanks. That's true. Some of them the stem was already gone. If it's not too brown it's ok especially when u can still see greeniyish inside where stem fell off.

    I just subscribed to your channel. I'm on my way to the market and needed this information about the avocados. I've one question... After I've made my purchase how long will the avocados last before they start to go bad. Also how can I store and keep the other half from turning brown?

    • @FoodChainTV

      You can freeze them for later use. To keep them from turning brown you squeeze or rub lemon juice or vinegar on them.

  • @ritasmith9553
    @ritasmith9553 8 місяців тому +3

    Oh, the produce managers are going to have a meltdown! Squeeze VERY GENTLY, so as not to damage the fruit. If it gives ever so slightly, VERY, VERY, SLIGHTLY, it is ready to buy, and prob. ready to eat if left on the counter for a day or two - depending on how ripe you like them/ or what you plan to do with them. Buy them if they are black or almost black, look good. If you remove the stem, you need to pay for it!

    I vant find anything that mentions the "freckles" inside. Every single avocado i have ever split open has these "freckles" and they are indeed brown. It looks like the avocado you have in this video has them as well. Is this just a normal thing? Excuse my ignorance lol but I've never experimented much because i have never been able to figure them out lmfao

      Brown spots are just oxidation (oxygen starting to break down the fat). If brown spots smell/taste old, don't eat it. If brown spots smell/taste fine, you can eat them.

    im sorry but i winced so hard when you pushed that knife toward your own hand. I have family that work in urgent care, one of the most common injuries is from people cutting themselves deeply while trying to cut hand held soft things like bagels and avocados. always, always point the sharp part of the blade away from yourself.

    You squeezed way, way, waaaay too hard. No one should put anywhere near this much pressure on an avocado. You will bruise the unripe avocados and by the time they are ripe they will be ruined with soft/rotten parts in them. I really hope no one follows these instructions
    You can tell a ripe avocado with way less pressure

  • @Kayla-tn7zx

    That's rude to squeeze. It causes bruises for other people buying avocados, and causes food waste. DO NOT SQUEEZE!
