Yash Keni I’ve been playing piano for 8 years. That anime taught me that music can reach people because words sometimes can’t reach people. I also play violin.
Slight issue: you say Kousei was born to fulfill his mother's aspirations, but this isn't true. She didn't even want him to become a pianist at first. And she only started abusing him once she got sick and needed to make sure he'd be good enough to make a living off of the piano.
Yea but the way she took was too cruel and weak...She didn't had any options she says...But why just not give up on the whole piano thing and Kousei would of had a normal childhood....The only thing that she gave him was HIM GETTING PTSD EVERYSINGLE TIME HE PLAYS THE PIANO..She deserved her death..That'd my opinion
This series was heartbreakingly beautiful. I cried like a 9yr old girl. Everything from the music, to the animation and dialog made this pretty close to perfect for me.
I hate that Kaori died and couldn't stay longer and spread more positivity, and that Tsubaki is left in the dust everytime though she deserves to be selfish, and deserves to love someone better than Kousei. So in moral, Kousei can just go find some other people to trouble, and you know what? I ship Koari and Tsubaki now.😒 Kousei doesn't exist.
@@tedits2434 if kaori didn't had that illness and that living time left she would just be a normal girl, you know that after knowing she was going to die she did everything that she wanted to do in her own way, and she decided to fulfill her wish before dying (playing with kousei) and when she saw that kousei couldn't hear his own music she did everything to help him and then she died. Great video! I doubt it's entirely relevant, but the last song played is Ballade No. 1 in G minor, Op. 23 by Chopin, a song Chopin played to reflect his loneliness. It's nice and tragic to see Arima play it so passionately.
Red Pink and twice classical and jazz are just so powerful and emotional and the stories behind them are so beautiful and rich🥺 they’re almost dead languages now but like Latin they’re kept alive by people who wanna take that step into listening to them and it’s beautiful

I’m not a huge anime fan but I am a giant movie buff, and that final duet scene was genuinely the most beautiful and ethereal portrayal of death that I’ve ever seen in my life. When i first watched this i didnt find it sad because i hadnt experienced enough in life but after being bullied and learned what it feels to meet someone who you get close to and then they die i realized how sad it is. Also the person i met died at 12 Edit: this show also gave me inspiration to play the piano as if it were a friend not a toy and it taught me the importance of music. that it isnt just noise, It is your emotions and the composer's emotions that make it beautiful.
This was definitely my favorite anime, I even started buying the manga! Every scene was just so amazing and you could learn a lesson from everything. I also loved the foreshadowing and metaphors. There are so many lessons to be learned and I love the emotional mature ness. I do wish watari was shown more but I love that we got to see this confident character break down behind closed doors, that really showed that no matter how strong you are, your never immune to feelings. I cried in so many scenes and overall I just love this anime. I love the emotion coming from the music and that really brought this anime together. I love how you can watch the anime over and over and you can learn something new from different characters.
The last scene when they are playing together once more BROKE MY HEART. this is one of very few things that actually makes me cry. The way that a light beam comes out of her in the end. i kinda wish the guy who made the anime changed the ending. the original ending for the anime (not the manga) was that kaori was gonna survive the surgery and was gonna end up with kosei as lovers) i think it could've been a extra episode just at the end. that was the altered ending. doesn't mean that it have to be canon but i would love to see them together.
As someone who just watched it avoiding spoilers and anything about it, i would have been far more surprised and emotional if she had actually survived the surgery.
I thought it was so powerful that we never saw saki's eyes until we saw how she was originally a good mother to kousei. eyes are one of our most expressive facial features, and by taking them away they make a person seem soulless or unreachable. hence the saying "the eyes are the window to the soul". afterwards, when Kaori is in the hospital and starts to lose her temper, there are scenes where her eyes aren't visible, showing how she is fading away from kousei in (almost) the same way as his mother did.
Your lie in April is my favorite anime of all time. It seriously resonated with me. I completely agree with every thing you said. A truly fantastic video. I always watched this video after I finished watching it. I even showed my mom the anime and am so excited to show her this amazing review on it. Thank you so much for this. Great work!

The downside of this anime is that many side characters have too much screen time, I just want to see more screen time of kaori and kousei, I don't care about the rest.
I think the question becomes How much time should be dedicated to the 'side characters' like Tsubaki and Watari while not making their involvement with the 'main characters' seemed tacked on? I think it's a difficult balance.
FINALLY! Someone who gets it!! Although, my only disagreement lies in the assertion that music isn't in the core element/message of the show. With lines like, "Music is Freedom," and the wild imagery created by Arima and his competitors who don't have issues sharing their emotions as much, it is hard to blur the lines in the role that music actually has to the overall lasting impression of the show. But yeah, as far as narrative and stuff goes, I just don't think a lot of people have the patience to watch something like this and just experience it. With how action packed anime is, it makes sense that people might be waiting for a ki-blast somewhere, but this anime doesn't do that. Piano is boring to a lot of people. This show conditions us, a lot like how practice on a piano conditions us to be able to convey/feel these emotions through that medium. It gets us invested, and this is how the payoff occurs in the climax of the anime when... Kaori finally dies.
When the show ended I was heartbroken but also really really pissed off at Arima for wasting all that time sulking when he could have spent it with Kaori. I was also mad at Kaori for not telling him how she felt when they could have done something about it. I understand now why she didn't but it still hurts because they had so little time and so much of it was wasted.
One of the anime that made me felt happy, sad, and then cried... it’s a beautiful anime. The one that made me go and learn both the violin and the piano..
Someone said it right our time in this world is borrowed and one day we'll have to return it back, guess the only thing that'll never betray you is death she's like a lover who no matter what will take you with herself.
The show got me in the feels but i didnt cry, if there was like a 50 years later and we see kousei dying and remembering kaori and then he see her in the afterlife with his mother, i would cry like a baby
I have read on many other comment sections that "A Lie in April" should of ended with Kaori and Arima being able to be together in the end. I also felt sad when Kaori passed away, but if the ending would of been different, then the story does not end up having the impact and meaning that it ultimately did. I see many parallels between "A lie in April" and "I want to eat your pancreas". The main protagonists in each film have emotional or psychological issues and both begin their journeys to change and live their lives before tragic events of Kaori and Sakura. Both stories are soo soo sad, but they needed to end the way they ended.
This anime change my life, I almost skip this anime, but no i watch, I cry , but its a great anime I love it. It change my life. Cause of this I got to play the piano and I'm happy :)
I agree that the Shigatsu is not about music, there is little use of historical context and parallels between the characters and the compositions, and it annoyed me how the series didn't let me hear the performances. But then, it's strong points, "being about people"... Say that it was a "rollercoaster of emotions" for me would be an understatement. Each and every episode in the first half left me "platinum mad". I understand that Shigatsu is a melodrama, so ok, all that exaggeration, sudden burst of tears, and little kids having philosophical monologues like hardened adults, but for me, what were not ok was the disconnection between intentions and acts. The relationship of Kousei's friends and him, the way they treated him in the first half was without a doubt abusive. Almost torture at times, and they all keep saying "stop being a weak, man up", and the anime choose a direction that sold this as something positive and inspiring. I "hated" that, but at least it was something to discuss, so... anyway, in the second with the introduction of Hiroko this problem improved greatly. Good anime, I've seen better but I regret nothing.
Actually Kaori wanted to play paino with him once in life on stage And she did it Also she started having feelings for him so she wanted him to succeed in life Also in ep 19-20 he also give Kaori hope that they can play together again thats why she undergo operation i really thought she can survive when i watched anime first time but she didn't This anime and story is very well return and always my favourite i recently watched till ep 20 again till heart atk scene and i stopped kek Well in last life goes on i hope our main character will become very big pianist for Kaori Have a good day 😊
The production value in your videos is amazing. The analysis was very interesting and thoughtful. Keep it up! (Your thumbnails could be improved though)
Sure, maybe non of us are as talented as Arima Kousei and maybe non of us will have a friend that cares about us as much as Sawabe Tsubaki and perhaps we'll NEVER meet someone as feisty and vibrant as Kaori Miyazono... Felt that.😁
Honestly people who say Arima is selfish are wrong like how? He liked his best friends crush but you can’t control who you like and he always felt guilty same for his mom , he didn’t realize she wanted what was best for him but he felt guilty about that for most of the whole series...
Yo I loved the video and I'm glad to see that someone likes YLiA as much as I do. I made a video about Shigatsu too, that you can check out on my channel...although it's not nearly as insightful as yours.
Edwardcho Vaklinov actually, he went with the original ending he had planned. In an interview, he said that he had a second idea about how to end it that he preferred, but that he decided not to change it because it was already in pre development. So the way it ended was the original ending.
I hate this because it was so well written and now I feel depressed I wanted them to kiss or at least have a proper hug not her laying on him like the second last episode
Can I say I have never loved an anime with so many major problems? Most of the characters were pretty bad and underdeveloped but god the THREE main characters (we don’t count watari) were fantastic I just wish they got the tone right I’m fine with comedy but don’t do over the top campy animation just after someone is talking to a dying girl
i'm on the opposite side, thought the series was pretty meh, the feely scenes did not get me and such. The lie she told was super obvious to me, so obvious that i thought her lie was that the colapse on scene was the first time she'd colapsed, mostly because someone mentioned it being almost may shortly after.
Tsubaki annoyed me more than anything she was so mean to him no wonder he liked someone else calling him an idiot every 2 seconds isn't exactly an ideal girlfriend.
@@errisroseguard2498 IKR and I dont actually hate tsunderes but she was just out right mean. I mean when kaori died the first thing she did was kick him and say "YOU BETTER NOT GET DEPRESSED OR ANYTHING" like wow rude much

what a lovely video
The moment Kousei found out that Watari got Kaori's number hit me in the core, that was the peak of reliability in this series in my opinion.
some notes for me: people can change the course of someone’s entire life ; can’t express his emotions well because the one time he did and told his mother (i wish you were dead and she died) he just created another layer of struggle ; rediscover love for piano INTERCHANGE
the role of death and its aftermath is different from the moms to kaori
music is used to channel emotions and share them w others
for kousei he can come to terms with his mother and kaori
the event on its own doesn’t actually change how you interact with it does

Panino Manino can you recommend me some animes that you believe is better in your perspective thank you.
Rosa Nguyen Kyoukai no Kanata
Ahh last episode = depression all the other episodes also made me fell sad and happy.
Oh God! they are both Saki!
Actually Kaori wanted to play paino with him once in life on stage
And she did it
Also she started having feelings for him so she wanted him to succeed in life
Also in ep 19-20 he also give Kaori hope that they can play together again thats why she undergo operation i really thought she can survive when i watched anime first time but she didn't
This anime and story is very well return and always my favourite i recently watched till ep 20 again till heart atk scene and i stopped kek
Well in last life goes on i hope our main character will become very big pianist for Kaori
Have a good day 😊
The production value in your videos is amazing. The analysis was very interesting and thoughtful. Keep it up! (Your thumbnails could be improved though)
+Yzov Thank you! And I'm curious as to how you think my thumbs could be improved; I actually just redid them two days ago.
I feel like you had much more to say! Make an extended version
Sure, maybe non of us are as talented as Arima Kousei and maybe non of us will have a friend that cares about us as much as Sawabe Tsubaki and perhaps we'll NEVER meet someone as feisty and vibrant as Kaori Miyazono...
Felt that.😁
fantastic video!!!
Thank you!
This was good, to bad to see the channel go dark..
It’s almost April huh..
😭😭 here come the water works
I thought the ending of charrolette hit me hard and then i saw the last episode of this series and god damn i was fucking broken

Great video!
thanks!
kousei and tsubaki shouldve gotten together at the end change my mind
I wrote my college essay on your lie
Honestly people who say Arima is selfish are wrong like how? He liked his best friends crush but you can’t control who you like and he always felt guilty same for his mom , he didn’t realize she wanted what was best for him but he felt guilty about that for most of the whole series...
She wasn’t even his best friends girlfriend just a girl they both happened to like, but yeah arima isn’t selfish at all
Constant II Bar oh yeah..
This anime makes me cry every fucking and I hate it😭😭😭😭
Great review!
BTW if anyone said they didn't like the anime, I'm ok
But if someone says something insulting to the anime, I'll kill them myself
Haha! You think like me! ;)
Yo I loved the video and I'm glad to see that someone likes YLiA as much as I do. I made a video about Shigatsu too, that you can check out on my channel...although it's not nearly as insightful as yours.
😢
How about a live action movie with Lindsey Stirling?
They already did a live action movie, but maybe a American version?
Noooooo.. please leave anime as it is.. no need for destroying 'em like DB and DN
Only thing is that he did win. He just didn't win good enough or something
Lord, you are playing the same backing music as they used in your lie in April and it’s killing me 😖😭
I have to wonder if this was a rushed video because most of musings about the mother are incorrect.
If only the author did not change the ending he had in mind...
Edwardcho Vaklinov actually, he went with the original ending he had planned. In an interview, he said that he had a second idea about how to end it that he preferred, but that he decided not to change it because it was already in pre development. So the way it ended was the original ending.
Doki Doki Hamburger Club If that is the case, I guess that is how you make a top star drama hehe
I hate this because it was so well written and now I feel depressed
I wanted them to kiss or at least have a proper hug not her laying on him like the second last episode
that was a twist?
Practical Mediocrity Watch the anime
Can I say I have never loved an anime with so many major problems? Most of the characters were pretty bad and underdeveloped but god the THREE main characters (we don’t count watari) were fantastic I just wish they got the tone right I’m fine with comedy but don’t do over the top campy animation just after someone is talking to a dying girl
😭😭😭
lel dude you sound like you were about to cry Xd
I was sick! I can't listen to my voice in this video it's so drab; wish I sounded a bit happier..
gg
In the first 1:41 minutes i started to tear up...
i'm on the opposite side, thought the series was pretty meh, the feely scenes did not get me and such.
Finally someone agree with me! I never once liked Tsubaki
@@errisroseguard2498 IKR and I dont actually hate tsunderes but she was just out right mean. I mean when kaori died the first thing she did was kick him and say "YOU BETTER NOT GET DEPRESSED OR ANYTHING" like wow rude much
@@starzaline1375 And when she forced Kosei to play with Kaori without his concerned and almost pushing him around like a doll when he says no, like Listen to what the boy said
@@errisroseguard2498 ya she was just so annoying and so mean they over did her character
@@starzaline1375 Yeah... What pissed me of was the drowning scene where Kosei was looking at Kaori and then she summoned fireworks at him and then and then cried because they were gonna blame her for his Drown, like girl you drowned him
I hate this anime, its so boring.
I shop on AliExpress so much They should sponsor me how old are you? I'm not asking in a snarky way, but I feel like that would give some resonance to why you didn't like it. It's definitely a series that means a lot more to those that have relative experience to the show.
Doki Doki Hamburger Club
Listen, don’t waste your time trying to argue with me about an anime. Calm your titties. If I didn’t like it I didn’t like it.
I shop on AliExpress so much They should sponsor me no one is arguing, quit being so sensitive. I asked a basic question.
Doki Doki Hamburger Club
Omg you know what the heck you were doing. Asking me my age because you think I have to be a certain one to understand this stupid boring anime. Your shit came off rude sir ☕️🐸.
Sorry...but i don't agree with you...it,s a masterpiece...i love it... I don't forget this anime even if i die.... it's a promise...
