I may have commented this before. But the “She is this 14 year old girl who embodies April, but is in the December of her life. She is staring down the Reaper and begging the world around her for just one thing.” This quote and the entire series is beautiful and very sad. :(
This anime made me bawl my eyes out and left me hurting for 3 days straight, and still never regretted watching it, not once. What a beautiful story told in such a melodic way.. ❤️
I cried so hard at the end of this anime. I wondered throughout my first watch through why it’s called ‘Your Lie in April’ and I got my answer in the last episode and was a mess in tears. Kaori dying before Kousei can even confess his love and now Kousei living, knowing she loved HIM the whole time…and her little ‘lie in April’ is what started the whole story of the anime. This anime so tragic but so beautiful in so many ways and I always feel incomplete if I don’t watch it every April
While rewatching this anime with my friends, a theme I found another theme that many don’t seem to be really be talking about. The idea of being stuck in the past and not progressing in cycle, vs breaking the cycle and advancing to a new idea or future. For example, The character Tsubaki. She has always viewed Arima as her little brother, so much so that everyone around her accept her and arima realize she likes him. For example, forcing herself to date her past crush, but instead of focusing on the moment with him, she mostly talks about Arima and how close they are. This eventually leads to not only her being dumped by her boyfriend, but also Arima possibly going overseas because of his love for music. As such instead of confronting her feelings, she blames the music for taking Arima away. She actively is being punished for not progressing, staying staginant and not advancing. While Arima is being rewarded for confronting his past and moving forward. Throughout the whole anime, he confronts his true feelings for his mother and the piano she played, his true feelings for Kaori, and the idea of someone he loves being taken all over again. Instead of just forgetting her like Koari said to do, he actively pursued ways to get her fire back and her love of music. So much so that she risks a possibly very dangerous surgery just a small chance to play with Arima again. In the end spiritually, he does get that chance to play with her. And at the end of the anime we see how he has improved since the beginning, thought it seems he is stuck in a cycle of the people who inspired him with music being taken away from him. Both Arima’s mother’s death and Koari’s death follow the same cycle for Arima. But it is due to how he acts that is different. One where he just focuses on playing for his mom to get better and following the exact beats of the score, working like a machine focused on the past . This is where he loses his ability to hear the notes and is punished. While on the Kaori cycle, he is encouraged to be himself and advance not for the judges or the awards, but to improve himself and the love of music. To never stop advancing your love to the piano instead of viewing as a task. And as we see, he rewarded by not reverting back to the way he was at the beginning of the anime. Anyway, this is how interpreted this anime but I really like the idea you put in place. Great video!!!
I finished watching this anime for the first time the night before last. I've been a musician most of my life. It so perfectly captures some of the things that go through your head while you're playing. We exist in this strange state of focus and wandering thoughts about what the music means to us, the people and memories it conjures up, and our hopes that it will mean something to the people who hear it. I loved Your Lie In April. It was still fresh in my mind and in my heart as i picked up my instrument to perform last night. It reaffirmed why what i do can matter.
I just finished watching the anime today and man what a journey it was. The entire thing was so poetic and harmonious. So tragic and hopeful. It’s in a class all it’s own and I will never forget it. A true masterpiece in every sense of the word.
I have to say this is one of my favorite animes... I cried so hard it's one I can't watch all the time because it really hits home for me in many ways... I want to tell you about My friend We had known one another all our lives but only became friends in high school.... it's always been my fear of not being remembered I had no idea then that I would have to be the one to remember she passed away January of 2020 her body was giving out I knew some of what was going on but she distant herself from me and kept the truth of how bad it was I took her passing hard because the last time we spoke we fought I couldn't understand why she would shut me out the way she did she knew how much I loved her.... well not to long ago I had a dream where I was in my car I looked to my right and she was right beside me she said come on we're gonna be late. I just stared at her and began to cry she asked me what was wrong I said you died and left me alone she said you cry baby stop crying I never went any where I'm always right here with you I wiped my tears and hugged her then began driving again I looked at her one more time and smiled and she smiled back I woke up after that... So it's true we take the people we love and meet with us till the day we pass away and the people we have touched do the same so I don't worry about it being forgotten any more we all live on in one form or another...
If I wasn’t going to buy ‘your lie in April’ before watching this video, I certainly am now! Plus your topic of immortality and how or u r remembered long after you’ve passed gave the film a much deeper meaning for me. Brilliant and beautiful! Thank u! As for what the next anime should be for the next discussion after ‘the ancient magus’ bride’; I’m going to choose ‘weathering with you’. I purchased the movie not that long ago but haven’t watched it yet. If it’s chosen, it’ll actually give me an excuse to do so! Thank u for another amazing video! Can’t wait for the next one!
I remember loving this series I have made videos for it. I have also remember crying because it was that hard at the end. it was beautiful amazing music and I still haven't even forgot about. it was very memorable to me. Wonderful job on the video.
You Lie in April ripped my heart out I've seen tons of meaningful moments and deaths and lots of series that I enjoyed but this one had me in tears when the finals song played. Excellent video your deep dive and analysis was great as always
The was a beautiful analysis of Your Lie in April, it really made me see more of the message and amazement of what this anime is trying to show and tell. I got to say I think I found what it truly means to be Immortal and what the journey of how one goes about searching for it is like. Awesome video AxelBeat to answer your question I will always remember you from time to time, you can count on that :) This was a nice, great job on making this video!!!
I had no idea of this anime. I choose it recently thinking it would be a good romance anime with her saving him from his mental health and live happily ever after. Wrong. Ended up deep in thought with my heart aching trying to process such a story
bruh, one of the best video analysis i’ve seen. great discussion on the message of the series and the character dynamics, ty for making me love ylia a little more :)
Somehow this went over my head in initial viewing, the similarities between Kaori and Saki the mother are uncanny. All of it is nudging you towards these two individuals both teaching Kousei from similar circumstances, and arguably the one who had more to grow into but also less to loose was a more liberating teacher Yet at the end, we see that from her perspective Kaori clearly felt like she had more to grow into. Saki was able to fall in love marry have a child, what opportunity she realistically lost was advancing her music career. Kaori never even made a profit from music, and never got to have the experiences of loving a partner and a child Saki had. But the regret didn't let her get in the way of being a positive teacher. It's to the point that one could argue maybe she should have actually let her feelings get more in the way of the teaching duty have a few kisses etc, but of course we can never really envision the what if. Maybe if she was more open she would've crept closer to Saki. All I know is that Kaori will inspire me forever
this is a great video part way in I started to burst out into bouts of both philosophy, and song, before then putting them together and the singing and that singing felt better then it has in a long while. and although I forgot much of it and its connecting pieces, and while I wish I could remember the words of the song or how I sang them, even without that I can still remember the feeling of it bursting to life in my lungs and echoing through out my room, while also finding the connection between the meanings in my mind as I put them into words. this was a great video to watch and more then made my day, thank you, for both the video and the great feelings that came with watching, that came together as inspiration.
Axel amazing video as always another series I will watch because of you, thank you. Either one that wins will be great so I don't mind. I would have to say in answer to the ? Yes Axel you have been etched in my life for the good I will remember you.
Is the release date of this video intentional? Because I'm kinda getting sad after realizing what happens on this day. T_T Amazing analysis by the way! This anime is extremely beautiful and so well made. I vote for Princess Mononoke
