Definitely this place must be proud of their batter and frying skill. No wonder they even fry sausages and burgers! The crunch part is almost like Japanese tempura, prepared by a real Japanese chef. They called it blooming tempura🌸🍤

Hi Gary, when I saw this was going to be a fish & chips review of a highly rated location, I had to make sure I watched it when I wasn't hungry! 😊 Looked like excellent batter, with great crunch & flavour. I thought the cod portion was quite good actually... Mostly because too much fried food can make one feel a bit queasy, so an excellent quality, smaller portion I feel is better. Price seemed reasonable & easy to share between two people. As always, I thoroughly enjoyed your review! As I was watching this one, I thought to myself that you & your son must be having alot of fun with the channel... Travelling around, trying a wide variety of restaurants, spending quality time together & making good memories. It's easy to see why your channel continues to grow quickly & why so many people love watching. Take care & til' next time. 💙
Thank you so much Erin. I'm lucky I had help from the CM on this one. I think the Cod was a bit small given UK standards but fine if you order that amount of food!
As far as fish and chips goes, Colman's in South Shields has always hit the mark with us! The staff are always great, and it's always full from opening until closing, every day. Nicely decorated as well, with photos on the wall of all the famous people who have eaten there, from politicians all the way to Jean Luc Picard himself, Patrick Stewart! For the longest time, they just had a single restaurant on the main street, but have since opened up what they call the "Seafood Palace" next to the sea itself. We tried to get into the new restaurant once and were turned away because we didn't have a reservation, and they were completely full. Luckily, underneath the restaurant, there's a takeaway part, so we didn't leave empty-bellied! Great video as always, and now I want fish and chips! But I doubt anywhere round here will be as good as what you had...

Hi Gary My Japanese wife and I live now in Japan, but we met and fell in love years ago over British food! Here in Japan, there are loads of food shows, and they all finish on a huge ‘oishiiii! It means delicious. Found your channel by accident - have subscribed and recommended it to all my friends - and what I love is that if something is not good, you won’t do the Japanese ‘oishiiii’ anyway, just to be polite. You will tell us the truth. My wife Mitsuko says sometimes ‘you’re watching that British bloke eating again, aren’t you?’, with a slight criticism in her voice. Yes I am! And I enjoy your lovely and natural performances. Please keep them real for those who, like me, can’t be there.
Yeah. I love Japan, but their disgusting fake food shows make me wanna puke. They're also the reason most Japanese people expect you to go "OMG, so delicious!!!" within ONE second you put something into your mouth even though it is impossible to taste anything in that time. Well, I guess every country has its brainwashing media.
So sorry that I missed your kind reply to my nonsense - my wife is now sitting down with me to watch your appearances! Not sure what the scope of your channel is, but if you ever make it to Japan, we’ll stay out of shot, while feeding you a few shots of sake! Congratulations on your fantastic channel - I heard that ‘the cameraman’ is your son. What a lovely way to be together. I ordered some marrowfat peas online, my husband thought you made Mushy Peas with frozen peas. Thanks for the upload, Gary. This feed will keep you buzzing for a fair bit.
@@HowardOfficialMy theory is that he has an identical twin who does every other review. 😊 Black pudding in batter is very common in Scotland. You can also get red pudding suppers in the east of Scotland :”Red pudding is produced from bacon, beef, spices and colouring.”
As a Murgatroyds regular I'm always intrigued at your marking of other fish and chip videos.Glad to say we are still up there with the best marking wise. Can I Just say how much we (wife) love all your videos, your channel keeps on growing sub wise but there again your honest opinion and culinary experience you can see why.
£31:60 for that amount of high end fish chips and sides and a pudding was incredible value Gary , I love my onion rings and when you took that first bite I actually found myself taking an imaginary bite myself they looked amazing and the sound of that bite let us all know how good that batter was , obviously that best fish and chip award was well deserved , great review as usual my friend 👍
I remember being disappointed as a child on holiday in the 70s when I asked for a fishcake and received what I would call a rissole! I was expecting a piece of fish sandwiched between two large, thick slices of potato, battered and deep fried. I can't remember where it was but I was soon to learn from subsequent trips to myriad destinations that this delicacy is virtually unknown outside a small part of South Yorkshire. I haven't done a great deal of research but as far as I can tell, only Sheffield and Barnsley hold true to that. Last year, I visited a chippie on the outskirts of Barnsley and the proprietor informed me that his establishment was on the border of that nomenclature. "Go yonder lad, and thee'll get one o' them rissoles'.
Quaint old premises as befits my beloved Glastonbury. Loved the old Coop tea sign on the wall, and hot strong tea with fish and chips is just the best, every time. I’d say a worthy winner. I could hear the lovely crunch of the batter and crispness of the chips. I guess the fish portion wasn’t the biggest, but on the other hand what you did have was superb! As always a very fair review Gary and I’d go along with your score.
Another fantastic review Gary! Always brightens up my day when I see a notification from UA-cam with another of your videos! Keep up the excellent work mate 😊
The batter on your fish is looking very delicious, Gary! I'd definitely arm-wrestle your cameraman for the leftovers! 😃 Thank you for bringing us along! Tell your cameraman that I'm coming for his job. Best wishes from Michigan, USA! 💜
You would think reliably perfect fish n chips woud be pretty a straightforward business. Not so. Apparently it's some dark ancient art, roughly equivalent to alchemy. But this elusive 'reliable quality' isn't confined to fish n chips. I'm a Brummie, well-used to eating Baltis/curries over the last 40 years. You can have a life-changing Balti dining experience one day, and something inedible the next. Same dish, same restaurant, polarised experiences. That's food for you.
Another award winning review! Great commentary and fantastic cinematography. Gary, you and your son are the gold standard for food reviews. thanks for another riveting production! 🙂

Yes, another fish and chips review! (I love them). The usual fish, chips, mushy peas and curry sauce. I am not a pea eater, especially smashed ones, but I have a feeling if I went to the UK I would definately try them....and might end up liking them, if they are like the ones in this review. Any insights on why curry sauce is always served with F&C? I prefer tarter sauce, but again would give curry sauce a try. I agree that the batter can really make or break a fish, onion rings, or the black pudding (I had to do a search on the Internet to find out that "pudding" is not always a desert!). Again, you made me so hungry with this review...and I am glad that you had a chance to find such a great restaurant....and great mushy peas! Thanks as always, Gary, and cheers to cameraman! Look forward to the next F&C review I can find on your channel...

I'm coming to England in 6 weeks (from Australia) for a months holiday. So far I've got about half a dozen "Must Visit" eateries on your recommendation that I'm going to try. I'd better get on the diet now in preparation!
Looked excellent, Gary certainly one of the best you’ve had ; when I was in the Royal Air Force I went to a place and Scotland called Lossiemouth ;) Elgin chip shop they serve black pudding in batter that was over 20 years ago and haggis in batter and a red pudding in batter thanks for sharing CQ
I may have mentioned this before. I am from Bury in Lancashire, the home of the black pudding, I’m 75 years old so my memories of fish and chips go back a long way, back in the day I would go,to Tompsons fish and chip shop in Bury, located on The Rock. I have also lived in the South of England in the Military so have sampled fish and chips everywhere, but Tompsons fish has the most unique taste I have ever come across, plus something you don’t see in the South is Steak pudding, that with chips and mushy peas with gravy is to die for for. I’m probably going back to the 60’s but Tompsons is still going strong for over 50 years.Lets give it a go.
Thank you very much for your wonderful comment Peter. I will definitely take a look at a number of people like yourself has recommended this fish and chip shop.

Mention you all the time to my mates in the U.K. and to pals in my place of birth, the Isle of Man. (Would love your opinion over all - if it’s of any use, the ‘Cat with no tail’
You’re addictive, and I hope you move your fabulous first 100,000s into the many millions. All best wishes.
Many thanks for replying, Gary (my brother’s name, so extra comfortable). As your superb channel grows, I hope you will one day take on Japanese cuisine! You have a way about you that is clearly drawing in many. Many thanks for your hard work in informing us about our potential nosebags! Best wishes.
Gary is my go to batter expert. The sound of the crunch made my mouth water. Great work 👍as always
Batter expert made me laugh lol. Thank you!!
Another brilliant review…..thoroughly enjoyed watching it…..thank you again Gary
That’s very kind and appreciated, John. Thank you very much.

*opens laptop*, hmm... where's Gary reviewing today. Always! 🥰
Another great video and the food looked amazing,im actually jealous 😋 well done both of you
Thank you very much, Debbie and this definitely put a smile on my face
I know it’s a fish & chip review…but those onion rings look amazing!!
Edit: 100% agree. It’s DEFINITELY vinegar first, salt second.
The batter here is incredible, really highly recommend
@@GaryEats Were the onion rings with a beer battered crust? Love our beer battered rings on the South Carolina coast. 😄
Only the Brits spoil their fries with vinegar... 😱
@@marcom2248they’re chips, and any other time you criticise us for NOT using spices etc…make your mind up!
Completely agree with you on the onion rings. I was even more impressed with the curry sauce in a gravy boat😊
Love your reviews Gary, you are fast becoming my favourite UA-cam watch! Am getting so many good ideas of where to go from your recommendations - and I want to go to Knights! Can't wait! Keep up the great reviews! 😀
That's very kind of you to say Martin, thank you
Great channel Gary.
Never disappointed with your videos and reviews.
That is very kind to say thank you very much. It’s really appreciated.
(80) Oh, deep-fried black pudding. Boy, I miss black pudding so much. And that fish cake looked great. EVERYTHING looked so wonderful. I ordered some marrowfat peas online, my husband thought you made Mushy Peas with frozen peas. Thanks for the upload, Gary. This feed will keep you buzzing for a fair bit.
I love it but in moderation as it's not healthy for you!
I cant believe how much you upload! Keep going!
Thank you. will take a break soon!
@@GaryEatsI was thinking the same - a tremendous amount on top of a full time job - unless you have some news for us Gary 🤔
@@HowardOfficialthat news could be that Garry is about to give birth hence saying ov taking a break soon
@@johngibson3837 😂
@@HowardOfficialMy theory is that he has an identical twin who does every other review. 😊
Black pudding in batter is very common in Scotland. You can also get red pudding suppers in the east of Scotland :”Red pudding is produced from bacon, beef, spices and colouring.”
Wow that looked good ,Gary you do a good job with your reviews . Love watching the channel.
That’s very kind to say, Jeff thank you very much
Everything on that table looked very appetising and good value.
I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Thanks for the review 👍
Thanks again Rosie!
Hey Gary!! Keep up the great work!! I really thoroughly enjoy watching your videos! Keep up the great work!
I really appreciate your lovely comment, thank you!!
That is so very kind to say and regards to both you and your lovely wife thank you very much at the moment Murgatroyds is still top of the leaderboard
They were spectacular Deano, usually we try and edit out the noises but had to keep it in this time. Thank you!
@@GaryEatsglad you left the sound on that bite , sounded as good as it looked
Makes me want to go out and get fish and chips , nice review !
You and me both!
Fair play it looked superb. This food review channel is the benchmark for all in the uk brilliant content again, Gary,

My god, you could play Hoopla with those onion rings!
Ginormous and for only £2.50!
They were the size of jam doughnuts !!!
Love the review! Great as always... thanks Gary!

Great stuff Gary channels growing 😀👍
Thank you very, very much. It’s really appreciated.
Thank you very much for your comment Nicholas. I will take a look for when I’m up in the area.
Really nice premises, very classic!
Another fantastic review Gary! Always brightens up my day when I see a notification from UA-cam with another of your videos! Keep up the excellent work mate 😊
That’s very kind and appreciated, David thank you very much
Great video. If I could, I would have reached out and pinched those onion rings and battered black pudding 🤤
Thank you, they were excellent
Not before me 😂
The batter on your fish is looking very delicious, Gary! I'd definitely arm-wrestle your cameraman for the leftovers! 😃
Thank you for bringing us along! Tell your cameraman that I'm coming for his job.
Best wishes from Michigan, USA! 💜
He already knows Susan he is on borrowed time lol 😂❤️🌹
Fish and chips is deceptively difficult to get right. Looks like this place has it nailed. Enjoying the channel Gary.
Thank you and this was excellent
You would think reliably perfect fish n chips woud be pretty a straightforward business.
Not so.
Apparently it's some dark ancient art, roughly equivalent to alchemy.
But this elusive 'reliable quality' isn't confined to fish n chips.
I'm a Brummie, well-used to eating Baltis/curries over the last 40 years.
You can have a life-changing Balti dining experience one day, and something inedible the next. Same dish, same restaurant, polarised experiences. That's food for you.
As soon as I saw the beautiful green color of those mushy peas I expected you'd be in for a real treat. Another fantastic review, what a nice place!
Finally, I’ve got some fantastic mushy peas 👍👍👍
Another award winning review! Great commentary and fantastic cinematography. Gary, you and your son are the gold standard for food reviews. thanks for another riveting production! 🙂

Yay! a Sunday review! Good stuff.

Great as always (repeating to every post) Gary. The little Glasto-dancy-bit was a nice touch.
Thank you!
Thank you very much for your wonderful comment and I appreciate you watching and commenting on so many videos
Hi Gary. You are definitely the most entertaining food reviewer I have watched. Always honest. I particularly enjoyed the Phaal challenge 😅Being a hot curry lover myself, I thought you handled it brilliantly. Keep posting these great videos my friend.

This was very good and I’ll be up in Scotland very soon and I can’t wait to try the haggis

Batter looks and sounds perfect. Wish places around here could do that. It all looks good. Another great video Gary
Thanks for watching and thank you
I may have mentioned this before.
What a treat! I could almost taste the batter! Great review!
Thank you very much, Andy
