Yamaha's YZF-R6 has been a major player in the middleweight sportbike wars ever since it debuted in 1999. In this mid-cycle revision for 2008, the tweaked R6 has a bolstered midrange punch and even better handling dynamics in the face of new-for-2007 challengers from Honda and Kawasaki, plus a revised GSX-R600 from Suzuki for '08.
Yes this model up to this day it's still my favorite one.
still my favorite, 2020
Why are the indicator lights constantly on?
1:46 I agree, the hahormance of this machine is amazing
7yrs later, your comment got the like it most definitely deserved 👍🏼
I myself am 17 and have had my XT250 for about a year now, and plan on getting a FZ6R or maybe an R6 next year after I finish high school, which ever I have the money to buy and maintain for. It'd be easier that way to trust myself not to act a fool. Yami's for life!
read them in a news paper article my local bike shop had posted. when you think about it it makes total sense. just from my recollection i can think of 2 young kids in high schools that died on sport bikes in the last 7 years. and i dont live in a big city whatsoever. and its snow here 6 months outta the year
Just got the R6 (2008) and rode a couple of hours yesterday. If you are looking for distance and this is something you'll be doing frequently, try installing convertibars. The new position is easier on the wrist than it looks...
the cbr is a more comfortable ride: steering damper that actually works, higher handlebars, softer seat. i recommend getting a 600cc, but restricting it so that the throttle doesn't have as much bite and you'll get used to it. then when you're ready, you can unrestrict it.
@sofargone561 if you wanna begin riding on a big bike, maybe go with a 650cc. Though it's 50 more cc than a 600, it's usually a twin cylinder and wouldnt accelerate as fast (though still under 4sec to 60mph), and it has great low end torque. after you get a hang of riding you can move up to a 600/1000cc. though i know some guys that went straight to 600cc so it's up to you!
as far as i know, it only involves a couple of washers that lower the fuel / air ratio. It costs around £100. If you're on a restricted license then you need to get it fitted by a garage as they'll give you a certificate to prove the installation. Your insurance company will require this to give you insurance lol. If you have a full license, you dont need to do this and can probably fit it yourself. It is worthwhile doing as it gives you the confidence you need and gives you......
olgert just get the r6. of course you're not gunna do track but you might as well tell people that get a gsxr that they're not gunna stunt. if you're gunna buy a bike then get one that you wont regret. i got mine last year and love it. one more thing, my dad who is also a rider told me, "If you want to be invisible, ride a bike." just means you can take every precaution to be safe on the road but there is always another driver who isn't paying attention.
I agree with Parick, a R6 is not a good 1st bike, unless you get an older one from 99-02. 600cc is nothing to mess around on. As for long rides if you're riding for 150miles on it without taking a break then yes the position on the r6 will get stiff. But other then that i love mine and so glad i started on a smaller bike.
@xYoungWill The right side is the High Beam, which is customary on during daylight for safety, the left one is Low Beam which is more for night time, so it's one or the other, if you turn on low beam the right side turns off
HOPEFULLY! my next bike
there is a minor change that they gotta do on the bike. i think that they have to make an indentation on the gas tank for the chest so that the rider's body is fully in contact with the tank and to ensure that he's safe while speeding up. just like the new kawasaki 600 superbike monster energy.
"its a wider tail with a slimmer... thing there" lol
im 5'8" and i can touch almost flat foot on the GSXR600. will the R6 be too big for me? i love the R6's
wasar shop handlewing
I love the new front lights
@LWRCftw this was my first bike and I have no regrets. People told me to start out with a 250 also but i think i would have regretted that, you will want a bigger bike within a couple of months and the R6 is easy to learn on as long as you don't get crazy
Love the bike, my buddy has one and loves it. I went with the Cbr600 though cause i couldn't stand the look/location of the brake fluid reservoir. Oh and by the way, don't listen to what people tell you about not starting with a 600cc as your first bike because that's what i did with absolutely no experience, i maybe rode dirt bikes twice. i was comfortable with in the first month of buying it. just be careful and smart and youll be fine.
Its a wasar sharp handling
im thinking about buying my first bike..whats the better choice?? R6 ,gsxr 600, or cbr..or kawa ninja ? thanks guys. to be honest i really like the r6 but it seems hard to ride.
what about if your 5'5" like me and only weigh 143 lbs? im a small dude but im in love with the r6 and want to get one
That's Yamaha. As far as I know, that's what they do with ALL of their bikes, even the smallest dual sport they have. They just include power to the front indicators with the daytime running headlight.
@dudefromlondon -- It's made for the track, not your commute. Keep the revs between 10K and redline and you'll be singing its praises, not to mention how well it handles.
@killroy74 -- The FZ6 is made for sport touring, the R6 is made to haul ass and rip through turns.
@1:33 the new r6 is better than the old one... great start
have you ever road a motorcycle or even a dirt bike? would this by like the first motorized bike you've ever road?
R1 as first bike!!! Thumbs up!
I love these bikes...this will be my next bike
:)
Is this only for track or can I use this as a street bike...
I started on dirt bikes. the only difference is the weight with slow turns but I bought a 08 silver r6 and I'm happy I didn't waste my money on anything else. and as for not doing stupid things. I said the same thing and when your bikes revs up and tears through 70 mph in first you'll eat your words so be careful
i heard that it costs like 500 bucks to lower it...is it your ride and do your ride it or were just sitting on a friend's?
hey 250rMaruu. In order to get into Moto GP just do some track time trials... thats usually the best way to get noticed.
my bad meant 1000 nt 100 :)
Flawless victory!
i want something that its not too complicated to ride. this would be my first bike so take that in mind that im what you call a noob at this lol. I really really like the r 6 as a matter of fact its my personal favorite between the choices i named..but i need to know if this is too much of a bike for a beginner. also you said you have an r6..is it relatively comfortable? thanks.
I don't think a 600 is too much to handle. In fact (and I don't recommend doing this), I learned how to ride on a 2006 R1 last summer. That is definitely playing with fire as the power is way too much but a 600 will be fine as long as you ride safe and don't get a big head. oh wait.. i just read that the kid is 17 years old... perhaps you should start on a 500. one step at a time my friend.
Such a sexy bike. If I went to the track a lot I'd love to get this bike, but it's hell on my wrists
Is it comfortly to ride such as 700km in one day ?
what about someone like me, 5'11.. 140 lbs, 19 years old. not a huge guy, but i have experience with dirtbikes (never rode a streetbike before) i'm afraid i'd get bored with a 250 fast, but i do have alot of respect for the power the 600 class has and wouldn't do anything stupid
also i wouldn't get a new r1, or any 600. i'd probably get between a 00-04. what do you think about that? good idea? :x
@SillieWous And a nissan skyline is a 2500cc, compared to the f430 which is 4300cc. He accounted for it or got lucky eitherway it worked out
0:20
What exactly is "lazeruh shar handerring?"
i am 6'3" i have ridden my friends cbr and it wasnt that bad of a fit. i like the looks of the r6 better and i was wondering if i will have any problems being kind of a tall guy on this bike. i wouldnt imagine it would be to much of a problem but i just wanted to see what some of you thought.
13 years later lol. How was it?
Will I be able to flat foot the ground if my height is 5"9? I'm asking because comparing it to other 600s it has the highest seat... Plus yamaha dealers here have limited bikes in the showroom
go with a CBR man, they are perfectly balanced in every aspect...and they are very easy to ride. which is why it was bike of the year 3 years in a row! (06, 07 AND 08) nuff said....lol
Can tall people ride R6's or R1's??? im 17 yrs old, 215pounds (not fat wise, but built wise i work out alot) and im 6" or around 6"1. can sum1 tell wat i should start off on? i dont want a 250ninja. that blows. am i ok to ride an r6 or r1 soon even though im this height?
is it good for a first bike?
@JoeNobody247 -- Want a bike that handles well and revs to the moon, but isn't the most comfy thing to ride daily, get an R6. But, if you want an all-around bike that handles well, has good power and YOU CAN ride all day, get a FZ1 or a Speed Triple. Your butt will thank you and you won't be able to wipe the smile off your face. (I have an '08 R6 that I commute 55 miles a day on, and do track days. I'm 5'8" it's fine, but I'd love a naked/streetfighter type bike for commuting and weekend rides.)
Can you put two people on this thing? It looks like it has a little seat in the back...
is this to much or a beginner bike love yamaha and want and r6 i dont want more power then that but think maybe is 2 much for my first bike..
is this motorcycle very light ??
in america, i believe its about $9.3k
you can probably get it a bit lower though.
whats the difference between an Fz6r and a Yzf-R6??
How come when you look at race bikes, only one light in the front is on?
The Yam r6 is a proper track tool but loses sooo much on the road because of it (on UK roads anyway). I've yet to see a group test that places the r6 ahead of the Triumph. Infact, the r6 currently comes bottom in all the group tests from any magazine who's opinion i respect and is soundly beaten by the zx6r, cbr600rr and the Trip on the road cos it's just too focused. Love one for the track tho. The point is - give the guy a break for having an opinion and preferring the Trumper.
@tosgem Going straight, maybe. The RGV is very dated and couldn't hang with a modern supersport on a track or a twisty road
R6 is most definitely not a beginner bike. These things are meant for the track and I'm fairly certain that your plans don't include track days as a new rider.
If you want something with enough power to get you around town and go down the interstate while retaining the sleek looks, I would highly recommend looking into the Yamaha FZ6R.
7 years later and it looks the same
@root9king Yeah that's great for the track but it sucks on the street. My old cbr f3 would pull damn hard at 5k and it's hardest at 7k-13k. Perhaps this low rpm power is the reason you see so many old honda's still running around today.
i feel like getting a motorbik is it hard to ride 1? i got a car but feel like motorbike
@LWRCftw absolutely not. and please help spread the word about this. i don't mean to be condescending or to talk down to you but never start with a supersport, period. having said that, not every new rider on earth needs to start with a ninja 250. if you're 6' or taller or 200lbs or heavier or if you wanna go two up on the highway you'll outgrow a 250 very quickly. something like yamaha's fz6r or kawasaki's 650r are attractive options, or a triumph bonneville if you're channelling steve mcqueen
@LWRCftw
i don't recommend 600cc and + bikes as first bikes. u better go with a 250 like a ninja or smthg like this...
how much is the r6 and the 600rr in dollars??
Yeah I guess they're pretty tiny for you :) Just a correction, the Ninja 250 gets up to only 115 MPH max, not 120... I love dirt bikes though and they sure take a lot of beating and still look like dirt bikes
Yes.
"Kevin to get on board, give it a try today" burns the shit out of the tire* "uuhh... Kevin doesn't know how to use a clutch just yet" hahaha
@camelface1 -- I commute approx. 60 miles a day on my '08 R6, and it's great on the street. Of course the '08 does have much better mid range power than the '06-'07 models. In the power band, I'm pulling away from CBRs and other middleweights exiting turns. When these professional testers say that "the R6 motor screams and pulls harder than any 600 they've ridden", they're not kidding, and they would know. Although I assume the '10 ZX6R pulls even harder, but it's 2+ years newer.
This is going to be my 2nd bike i just started to ride :P
@rasey077 lol c'mon you knew he meant to say "razor sharp handling" something this R6 is well known for.
Yes, this is the bike for meeeee!
@bubbyj I mean the 430 is in close competition with the new GT-R.
what is the average of the bike
:) i love my 08 r6 there is nothing better!
@HuGivzaFak If you wanna be comfy ride over 700km, go for Honda Goldwing
why dont you compare ducati 1198 with yamaha r1?
i want one of these so bad, but my dad is making me get a 250 cc bike to learn and i think he is right
Whenever possible, avoid lowering an sportbike. You're going to jack up the suspension geometry. Better to get some thicker boots fist if possible. I'm 5'9 and I can flat foot the bike wearing my riding boots.
@SizzlinNinja - You can put a little person on back, but don't ride too far from home..... it aint comfy.
lazer sharp handling
@rasey077 It's called being mature, you should try it.
the question you should ask is how experienced am i?
razor sharp handeling
well, ive set on one before and im 5'8" and it was a little to tall for me, but i could manage.
wats that 5:08/09 ?
im 5-9 170 will this bike fit me ?
@camelface1 8000 rpm IS an R6's mid range ya dink.....it redlines at 16,500! and pulls like a missile from 10K to redline. Sure, a twin has power from the get go, but it pusses out at 10K
a company that dodge paid made a custom motorcycle(if you can call it a motorcycle) you just dont understand how much modification would go into putting a 1300cc motor in a different manufactures 600cc bike
@shummyshum great thanks for the info ill take that into consideration very much appreciated
@PRINCEofPECICA i hope you know r6 is 600cc and 1198 1198cc so that's like comapring two completely different things...
If u are looking 4 a true 600 bike get a Triumph Daytona Triple 675 have the best sound and midrange power of the class! Here in Portugal u can get one 4 about 10300€ i got one!!and god it have a breathtaking crazy acelaration and it handles pretty well on the corners ;D
@SillieWous engine size has nothing to do with the class of a vehicle
@PRINCEofPECICA No no no, 458 Italia. Skyline is actually in good competition with the new GT-R. But its an unfair comparison anyway, considering these two different bikes are in COMPLETELY different classes.
@SillieWous i dont know, i didnt say it.
yea.. but how much is your insurance?
2008 year of The Great Recession and Americas tail spin.
its the best looking 600 around, but dont be fooled by the looks. its not an easy bike to ride. experience essential b4 u buy it
....gives you time to familiarise yourself with how the bike reacts - especially if you're a new rider. You'll have about the same amount of power as a 250cc - which is plenty enough anyway ;) Also, as it will be more controllable, it will prevent / lower the chances of crashing / dropping your bike, which tbh, is inevitable for any rider.
Hope that helps mate (Y)
5:06 motorcycle vtec?
@slipknot4060 well r6's look bad ass but you can't ride them very long before your wrists and back start throbbing.
