Young people today would never believe how glamorous it was to fly in the days when this “movie” was made. I love the pan shot of the LaGuardia parking lot at the end of the clip. This UA-cam channel rocks.
Not just that, but also how well behaved the passengers were back then!!
Back then, most of us were well behaved!
Generally, I have to give myself an additional 30 minutes to redress myself after passing through airport security. For believe it or not, I still wear a coat and tie whenever I travel and leave my cell phone at the bottom of my carry-on.
Call me crazy, but I like seeing how un-congested and un-busy today’s busy airports once were.
The COG of the American DC-6 looks heavily weighing on the back of the aircraft.
Was that a de Havilland Heron at 1 minute 29 seconds?
Those are Convair CV-240s. But please let me commend you for typing "de Havilland" correctly with a lower case "d"...most folks blow that. :-)
Thank-you for sharing! I remember that movie cameras were wound and only a luxury for the upper middle class. Apart from the warm, nostalgic fragrance of memories I have of the “Golden Years” of air travel, I suddenly wondered what would people do if they had to fly for several hours in the same environment of those days. Soon after takeoff, the cabin would be full of cigarette smoke. There would be no IFE, cell phones, gaming devices, movies, etc. The best available entertainment came from books, magazines (in those hard, plastic binders) and newspapers passed out by the stewardess, writing a post card with a picture of the airliner on the other side, or just looking out the window. If the aircraft was large enough, it would have a small lounge for conversations* between other passengers and playing card games (with a gift deck from the airline). Given the small space available in the overhead shelf, carry-ons would be limited to a lady’s makeup bag, brief case, and/or coat and hat.
I believe the stewardesses would probably have to stow a few straightjackets among the other amenities.
*Wasn't amazing how conversations in those days struck up between complete strangers as if they were long known friends?

Franken HateGooPlus which would fly through storms and into turbulence, not above it. Barf bags were quite popular back then.
