  • Flying with an old DC-6 over Colombia. Sitting next to an open emergency exit during take off, landing at Mitu and short footage of downtown Mitu. Pay close attention to the fuel gauges. Although fully fueled, they are all at 0!

wow - some of those run-ups had the outboard engines really misfiring. I would not feel comfortable flying that plane until the power issues were resolved!

I must have been a lucky kid. Me and my family started out on Stratocruisers, then DC-6s then on Constellations and Super Constellations, then Convair liners, then DC-7s. We never experienced cancellations or equipment delays on our flights. I know I've heard stories of the problems with piston powered airliners so I feel glad my memories on board these airliners went smoothly.

Those worn off planes got my atention. It makes me silent. It makes me feel special about this planes and the man that deal with them. Dispides the danger. It feels like a old bus. It feels like no place to be found in other places that want to be to modern. The old tech is so used but loved at the same time and i love it. The top of this special game is that those planes keep those goods come in and keep people from starving. Love it!!!

My family flew on a DC-7 from Toronto to Chicago, and Omaha, to Denver, and mechanical problem had us going rest of trip to SF, on a DC-6. The DC7 seemed much more plush and quiet than the DC 6. Howevah', as we all know, the PW 2800's were much more reliable than the Wright 3350's. No wonder the aviation industry loved the conversion to jets. 😀 Subscribed.

The aircraft was heavily loaded and to gain speed the flaps were only lowered at the end of the runway. Also it was extremely hot.

Impressionante é ver que apesar do precário estado de conservação deste ancião DC-6 colombiano, ele ainda voa e cumpre missão de transporte de cargas, e eventuais passageiros!

I know my eyes are getting bad the older I get but at 11:38 my 63 year old eyes thought those fuel gages were reading empty I hope they checked the tanks before takeoff. On the plus side try filming from an open hatch on an aircraft today. That was a fantastic video.

The DC-6 was powered by 4 Pratt & Whitney radials. R-2800,18 cylinders slightly over 2,000 horsepower each. One of the most used engines of WWII and in more numerous aircraft from bombers to fighters and even the twin engine Curtiss C-46 Commando transport. The Army Air Force, Navy and Marines all employed the P&W R-2800 in many of their various aircraft.

Reminds me of my roots... Wish my dad was still alive to see that, he went from B-36 maintenance to Capital Airlines/ United Airlines mechanic in the 50's thru 80's. I started flying C-45's and DC-3's in the late 70's. He would have loved seeing the old birds still working. Number 2's mag check had me a bit worried though.
I just looked thru your collection of videos and they look great. Now I have a project ahead to watch them.

There is an entity in Alaska that purchased most of the decadent piston engine plane parts in 1990s from the the military and private-sector. Starter are easy to rebuild, besides in South America, they have highly skilled folks there that can repair and make new replacement spares from A to Z.
