There is a thing called "hull speed" its a constant times the squareroot of( length times power divided by weight). This explains your similar top speeds well enough!
Excellent review. Especially liked the review of weight capacities of the seat and the kayak. Keep up the excellent reviews! Please do a review of kayaks on the gulf coast fishing for speckled trout and redfish. Thanks.
After seeing this video, great job btw... For my needs, an average Joe... Fish occasionally, just going out to relax, and enjoy different locations, in a quality kayak. The compass seems like the best bet. Light weight, just as quick, stable enough, and much less expensive
Great video. I own that same compass and already thinking of upgrading it to the pa14 for the better storage. You can’t go wrong with the compass. I will say that it can be tuff at times standing and fishing after you do the hatch mod.
Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed it! The PA14 is very nice! The compass owner from this video actually just upgraded to a PA14 and he loves it! All these kayaks are great just depends on your interest/application 👍
I have a PA and an Outback. I haul the PA on a trailer and as such I'm really limited to my fishing locations. The Outback is more limited with space, but far more useful as you can throw it in the back of a truck and launch it just about anywhere. I suppose the Compass is just as useful as well. All that said, my GPS on my PA has never gone above 4.6mph. In windy conditions you're going to get a serious workout if you're more than a mile from a boat launch in a PA. They're all quality units with varying applications but you will pay big $ regardless of which one you choose. Then big $ for accessories after you buy the kayak. They are however, a blast to fish out of and waaaaaaaaay cheaper than a bass boat.
So glad I found this, thank you for doing this side by side including on the water! The only thing I still have questions about is the performance in bigger water/BTB between the Outback and the PA. New sub here & hopefully fellow Hobie owner sometime soon!
Awesome! Glad you found this helpful! Welcome to the channel! That's a great idea! That's a great idea! I'd like to find that out myself! Great video idea for the future 👍
earlbroussardjr same here bought one last Father’s Day I love it . But I want a second one and leaning towards an Outback . Compass is $700-800 cheaper so idk yet
I've been considering getting myself a PA14. I went and checked one out the other day, and it's the Rolls Royce of fishing kayaks. I briefly looked at the Compass and Outback, but being over 6 feet tall I felt fairly claustrophobic just looking at them.
@ Mesquite Outdoors, you’re from the Valley?I’m originally from Falfurrias, Tx. I’ve been wanting a hobie kayak, I feel like the PA14 would be a PITA to transport w/o a trailer and really like the outback. My concern is that I’m about 275-280 pounds and worried if the outback seat will support my BA!!! Guess I gotta slack off dem tortillas lol.
I'm originally from Zapata but been down here in the valley for like 5 years. Ya man sounds like you should go with the pro angler! Cadillac on the water 👍 Your gonna be a lot more comfortable. If you have a truck and launch at boat ramps it should be pretty easy to launch if you have a cart. It would be difficult to launch if you need to drag it! But ya 5 min of struggle to get in on the water is worth it for the hours your gonna spend on the water. Got some other videos fishing in the bay you should check em out👍
Mesquite Outdoors thanks for replying, didn’t really want the PA because of it’s weight but thanks for your input. They have a 2016 PA14 in great condition near me for $2,500 and willing to go down a bit on the price, you think that’s a good deal?
Ya that sounds like a good deal👍. Good luck🤞. The PA is definitely heavier than the outback but the outback ain't exactly light lol. They are both badass kayaks you'll be happy with either one of them.
Went from a Coosa to a Compass. Now I'm thinking about a PA14 and keeping my other two kayaks for different fishing situations. With that said, would you be comfortable fishing on the PA14 while standing and facing to the side? I do alot of muskie fishing and so the PA14 has my interest :)
I would say definitely especially with the skeg down. I actually fish sideways with my outback when I'm drifting the flats👍. That's an awesome fleet of kayaks your assembling
Thanks! We had alot of fun with this one! Can't take credit for the drone footage my buddy helped me out with that! It really is! Im not gonna lie it's super nice when your on the water with that thing....but the transport and storage of that thing is whole other deal haha
That's awesome! Really can't go wrong with any of them just depends on your needs. Ive made a few shirts for family and friends but I'm looking to start orderinf some hats, stickers, shirts, etc so I can sell or giveaway to subscribers👍
Hey thanks for watching multiple videos on the channel! Hope you'll consider subscibing! Glad you found the video helpful! Might make another one if I can get my hands on the new Hobie Passport
Ill admit I'm not to familiar with rowing so I looked it up. "Paddles propel boats in the same direction as the paddler is facing. Oars propel boats in the opposite direction from the way the rower is seated." I don't think the proangler is designed to be rowed with an oar. If you want to improve the paddle ability of the pro angler I'd suggest going to a kayak shop so they can fit you with a good paddle that fits you the best
@@MesquiteOutdoors Yes I am sorry to mention the Wide Angle, I was trying to gauge some sizes of things and the wide made it hard, but really no biggie. But thanks to this I am getting the compass - I am in Singapore BTW so your video really reached out.
All 3 are amazing kayaks that definitely each have their strengths/weaknesses but I still prefer the Hobie Outback! Of course I'm biased since its the kayak I own but I feel like it really suits my needs perfectly. Great balance of speed, stability, paddle-ability, fish-ability, and comfort! Thanks for watching and welcome to the channel!
Thanks for the Sub! Love the new Outback! This experience definitely reaffirmed my decision to go with the Outback! Subscibing to your channel! Can't wait for the videos!
@@MesquiteOutdoors Yep I debated for almost a year on what to get... I did a initial rigging vid already and am waiting for warmer weather for the first voyage.

Mesquite Outdoors yes it does! Thanks for replying, didn’t think you were able to get them online(because I haven’t shipped anything bigger than a grill of a car) but dang, thanks so much
They still calling PA14 -kayak? :).... One thing is strange for me in kayak production in general, how width ,lenght and weight of a kayak does not have impact on load capacity
I really want to test it out! Looks like a great value and I like the open deck design! I'm a fan of the fin style pedal drive so I think it's great that people can get it at a lower price point. The other kayak I own is a Pelican and I have never had any issues with it
Thanks for watching! Glad you found it helpful! Looks like Hobie just announced a new kayak....Hobie Passport. Might need to get my hands on one of those to make another video
It truly is! First step is deciding whether your a fin style or propeller yaker! I like fin style for me cause I fish alot of inshore grass flats. They do really well in grass and you can flutter the fins for shallow water. If I did more bass fishing tight on structure I would give the propeller style yaks more of a look for sure
To be honest, I do not know why would I buy PA. It is heavy, very poor performance offshore, it is hard to move on the water, it is expensive. If this flips, it is difficult to flip it back. It requires a trailer. I am 6'4 and 220 lbs and I am very comfortable in 10 feet slayer 10 and outback is just a great kayak for offshore fishing. Mesquite Outdoors you should make a new one with the new passport in the video along with the rest of them
I’ll bet you could take the front seat off a PA 17 swivel it around and mod some oar lock arms to row that tanker.
