I saw her book "Everything all at once" at my school library and I borrowed it. When I came home with the book I finished it in three days, before the week even ended. It's like her books --no matter what the theme is-- they're just so addicting

(Kinda Spoiler warning) Literally JUST finished Horrid and went on YT to find someone else talking about it, you popped up first. Im a huge detail person so after the end I was like “WHAT?!? You’re just gonna leave me there?!? DOES SHE EVER GET HER JOURNAL BACK?!?” That was my brain at the end didn’t even care about what she did I was like “how is that going to play out the following day?!?” I personally loved all the Hercule Poirot references. I have yet to actually read the Poirot series but my mother always loved them and Agatha in general (first name basis if you catch my drift) and growing up her and I would watch the TV series together all the time. The whole time I was so hooked on whether things were actually happening or if she was having hallucinations especially with the missing time when she would like black out and something would happen or the texts etc. All in all I really enjoyed the book and enjoyed hearing you talk about it!

ItsCharlieBee thank you! So overall, do you think there were actual ghostly forces at play, or was it Jane descending into madness?

Tales and Tomes with Amy I think it was a bit of both. I agree that there was some info that she probably could have only gotten from Jemima. I also think however, that some of it was from her not fully fighting off her own urges. I also think in some aspects Jemima played into that and tried to remind her of how similar they were, like with the marble. Her mother was able to move past her rage and whatnot and I think Jane would when been able to as well had she still had her father. Her dad was like her anchor and you could really see that her anchor finally broke at the very end when she was hearing him try to comfort her but instead took the path of her sister. So yes I think there was a ghost, but I also think that there was something off with Jane that was exasperated by the loss of her father.
Even after saying that though part of me is just thinking that she might be unstable and there is no ghost...the ending keeps nagging at me when the thing happens to Melanie Jane has another black out. I guess potentially Jane could have multiple personality disorder, which would explain her blackouts. That would lead me to believe she has 3 personalities, one that takes over when she is angry/scared (the one at the final black out) and a slightly more childish one that is still in the ignorant bliss of nothing being wrong in her life. That’s the one sending most of the texts and trying to make everything right. Trying to make things seem good and happy, and right. It just seems odd to me that there would be such a decent sized black out at the end when Jemima could just make the thing happen instantly. But if Jane truly did it, and there is no ghost then I would be lead to believe that she did something horrible to her mother as well to prevent her from waking up. IDK THERE IS A LOT TO UNPACK IN MY POOR BRAIN!! I can’t stop thinking about alternative theories.

Thank you so much for this video! I have severe memory problems and forgot the ending. I already sent it back to the library, so I couldn't go back and re-read that part.

Kristin Long You’re welcome! Yes, it was shocking! Some were put off by the ending, but I enjoyed the ambiguousness of it. The mysterious element is often an integral part of the Gothic genre that one must accept.

@@TalesandtomeswithAmy I enjoyed the fact that for once, there was no true "Happily Ever After" because THAT is NOT how the world works! I love the elements of the Gothic novel and this one fit beautifully into that genre with the ending and the characters descent into "madness"! (I don't think it was a true madness, more of a realization through self reflection of how the world truly works.)

I feel like I was the only one who was meh about it, I had such high hopes for this book , but once i reached the ending i felt so unsatisfied..the plot itself had potential but it just flatlined near the mid end. I Wish there was another part to it,it left so much unanswered questions

That’s fair. I read so much Gothic that I’m used to mysterious endings.

me too, and i feel like the author had a lot of opportunities to add to the plot, but instead we received a confusing ending and irrelevant parts of the story.

OOH I just finished this one last night and it messed me up! Absolutely loved it though - though it was very, very well done in the creep factor.

I really loved her friendship with Sadie and Alana i think is her name and i loved her bookshop cafe job and now im like but wait DID HER MOM DIE???? cus Jemima says her mom wont wake up she is going for a long sleep. and then like what happens the next day?? people find out about it and now theres 2 dead people at this house i mean does she get possessed?? idk

I don’t know...it’d be awesome if there was a sequel, but it’s not uncommon for gothic stories to be left with more questions than answers like this 🤔

@@TalesandtomeswithAmy agreed it felt pretty final but i saw another book of hers that had a floral type cover or a girl on it and thought they kindaaaa looked similar but realizes it was a stand alone. I have yo say i like the unexpected ending, it makes it unique but still i want closure
