I don't respect her, and I'll tell you why: she has no judgment. You do NOT take to "social" media or UA-cam to air these serious issues as though you're a high school sophomore, if you actually mean to change what is happening. You begin by consulting attorneys and finding allies in your own profession. You plan your intervention carefully, and only then do you move.
This is useless. Worse, it is generally counterproductive.

You have got it. As I saw with my late veteran partner. the pharmaceutical companies warned against combining Cipralex and Cymbalta but his doc did and the results were beyond description. When the first adverse reactions came on, he said I think the doc has blundered with my meds. I did all could; stayed with him while he hallucinated; was suicidal... and he thanked me after. Dangerous for us both; at times he did not know who I was; paranoid and suspicious of me; The two Cs were only some of the meds he was on. The police were wonderful; after days of this suffering he headed for the RR tracks to try suicide; I called the police and they stopped him. But that was all they could do; they took him back to hospital and after a Lithium shot had brought him down they still put him in a coma and he emerged with no emotion; terrible to see; I am bitter about what he went through and how it affected his life with his family and friends and with our relationship; he had twenty years of this and gave up in the end. He was told if he did not cooperate with the meds he would risk losing the ptsd part of his pension which I think is against the Hippocratic Oath. My own doctor was aghast that he was on a Benzodiazepine along with four other meds. It is too late for us and his family but I would like to see the pharmacists take a larger role; they really know meds; if the docs would consult or if the pharmacists could have the authority to refuse a prescription that does seem right it might be a big help. The other idea I have is that a patient be in hospital when a new med is prescribed or a dosage changed. the docs say call if there is a problem but as I have said elsewhere, someone in a manic state does not realize they are in trouble.

absolutely!!!! this dr is one of the few who actually seems to care & knows what she's talking about & like she said if she loses her license bc she did right thing for pt then it wasn't worth much to begin with was right on!!! she actually researches stuff and cares! what a concept & everything she's saying is so incredibly accurate. i wonder would it be inappropriate for me as a pt to take to social media about the fact i was cold turkeyed off benzo i was on 27 yrs 3mg daily and then dismissed from practice after my provider left without notifying pts!!??? i've called fda lawyers won't touch it can't find prescriber even my pcp won't taper me off properly & safely. i even checked into psych ward they changed all my meds at same time , didn't give benzos and discharged me 3 days later w no prescriber or therapist & without talking to social worker as i asked. this system is beyond broken and where i live in iowa there are just a few actual drs left. most providers are np or pas which i used to think was ok but they seem to know less and less. i'm a masters level social worker and know way more than them which they resent and it's why i get dismissed from everywhere for false reasons without even talking to me. it's so messed up how these so called med prof are playing God w innocent pts most of who cannot advocate for themselves & don't understand what or why they're taking. but they're the drs dream bc they won't question a thing & ironically they overmedicate them unnecessarily but i had to argue beg plead w nurse to get a prescription strength benadryl or my blood pressure meds for my hypertension that's near stroke level. idk what to do if anyone has suggestions i'd really really appreciate any and all.

YES, THIS! I made a long stream of consciousness rant about this on September 21, 2024, ten (10) months after this interview/conversation got uploaded. Some people are gifted but also have distinctly problematic thoughts and at times, conduct. Hard on themselves, and hard on others. Not everyone can afford all the suppprts or find the gift of time and attention from ongoing persons who (whatever their job titles or professions etc) are willing (abd able) to devote themselves substantially to collaboration with someone troubled whose life CAN work, but who needs more than meds or a “secure environment” (autonomy is needed like air, by most of us human beings… ditto some sense of purpose avd meaning, whether a person can Eve tuslly support themselves financially or not… but so often with residences we can supply, they CAN). One if us is concise… you not me. I’m very worked up about varuios disasters, so I take refuge while traveling alone in svary situations, in whatever interesting, edifying, inspiring content I find online… when I can even get internet infrastructure sufficient for (any) purpose … THNX for yoir patience with my verbosity/inconcision, and my typos, if you ever see this!

They're destroying vulnerable people on purpose in a sly backhanded way while pretending to be trying to help them, because a dominant portion of the people who get through the artificially high and intensely competitive barriers of entry into elite professions like psychiatry are smug eugenicist elitists who regard damaged/flawed/strange/vulnerable people as disgusting garbage that only feeble-minded fools want kept alive. I was introduced to this mindset quite casually by a popular pre-med student back when I was in college. It's virtually taken for granted as simple fact is some circles apparently. If you disagree with it, all that means to some people is that you can't handle the truth and aren't to be taken seriously.
Military victories don't defeat twisted ideas held by dominant cliques on both the winning sides and the losing sides, and World War II did not defeat the attitude that can be seen represented by the deadly brainworms in Pink Floyd The Wall. Maybe some people think it's vulgar to reference a rock opera, but it's spot on in that message. The worms are still at it, hidden in plain sight in this more superficially genteel version of what is happening in a place beginning with "G" that would probably be censored if I mentioned it explicitly.

This is horrifying. But globally psychiatrists are doing this. I was stuck on a conveyor belt of these drugs when my underlying problem was I had no life coping skills. The first six years of my life was a dysfunctional chaotic chaos. Later in life I, like my dad who died an alcoholic when I was six years old, found relief in alcohol. My psychiatrist wasn't in the least bit interested in any of my childhood trauma or why I was drinking. None of it. My saving Grace was losing my job and medical insurance. With no money I was of no use to him. Thank God my psychiatric drug hell was only 2 to 3 years and I was able to come off the whole caboodle relatively easily and quickly. My mom, God bless her, planted the seed of Alcoholic Anonymous in my head. On 16 December this year I will be 18 years sober. It's only listening to your podcasts that I realise how lucky I've been.

In my experience this is also prevalent in Scotland.
I lost my son 3 years ago due to akathisia and have been researching since.
I too questioned the harms done and experienced gaslighting due to questioning and the immediate push to take psych meds when all I needed was to be heard and vitamin D supplements. Furthermore I am sickened being aware off too many autistic children automatically given meds when lifestyle support is what is needed.

Well said roxpick... I hope you keep records and a journal because when hopefully normality will return for you... physical and mental health you may write a book or do something on social media to help others... when I tried to tell people what was going on with my veteran pal no-one would listen because his behavior was so deranged when he was over reacting to a slew of meds about which many academic studies have been published. He finally got a sensible doc after twenty years of hell not just for the vet but for his family and friends but it was really too late and he took his own life. I noticed that when he reacted to one of the five meds he had been on... they would attribute that to PTSD!! which he had for sure. I read Dr. Breggins Driving Soldiers Crazy with Psych Meds. And as the guest says you cannot stop a drug overnight... I would never suggest this to anyone and the meds can be useful if used the right way. I want to see that patients be hospitalized when a new med is introduced or a dosage changed... the docs DO say CALL if there is a PROBLEM. However a person in an over-excited state as I witnessed after my friends took a newly prescribed anti depressant.... did not understand they were in trouble. One lovely brilliant academic gal ran round town naked after taking an anti depressant for the first time in her life. The police, carrying a blanket had trouble catching up with her; she was so embarrassed afterward but it had in no way been her fault. I asked an American doc if this girls very fit state as an athlete = Olympic level = could have been a factor as she would have metabolized the anti depressant differently say than an overweight sedentary person. He said yes indeed that might have been a factor. So the way meds are prescribed and what kind of individual health is involved.... should be looked at. Friends and families should be cautioned to watch for reactions and have a number to call if there is trouble. No one returned my calls for help. As with the girl athlete; the police were the ones to help; in the case of my friend the cops were terrific; one had had ptsd himself. But such episodes must - I think - add to the trauma for which the patient originally sought relief.

Hey Linda God Bless your perseverance; this is an enormous challenge. I have tinnitus; many theories but no certain cause can be identified... when it is at its worst my memory is at its worst. A real curse and the memory loss can be confused with dementia in older adults... My late b.f. was on Benzos from 1985 and suffered tinnitus from that date. One specialist links the two; however I have it without exposure to meds; it just happened... I will say it happened around the time of a severe shock... so (just a wild guess) could the brain perceive a medication as a shock... I have zero medical training so just asking questions as it is such an awful thing to live with. I met another elderly lady who has a device attached to her ear prescribed by an audiologist and she swears by it; I will soon see a specialist too and see what they can prescribe. Sometimes the tinnitus just vanishes; gosh i wish mine would go away. i think of my poor veteran pal and how he would wag his head side to side, gritting his teeth; so disturbed by the unending buzzing in his ears.

    • @williamallen7836
      @williamallen7836 11 місяців тому

@@elizabethabbott2982 Tinnitus is caused by damage to the nerve hairs in the ear. It can be caused by medication if the medication intrupts, or causes dysfunction of that part of the nervous system. For example I was Rx'd Lyrica (pregabapentin) for chronic pain. I recieved no relief until my dose was raised to a stupid high dose. As well as other side effects, I began losing my hearing that started with a significant worsening of my pre existing low grade tinnitus. It did reverse and hearing return, and the tinnitus returned to just the low grade noise I have had all along. It took about 3 & half weeks to totaly reverse the side effects. This as well as being put on countless antidepressants that didn't help, but gave me bad side effects is why I refuse to continue to allow my doctor to bully into trying every single antidepressant before trying something different. He doesn't like that I won't continue the insanity, but I have been medically injured several times, which counts as medical assult because I was bullied & forced into the "treatments" & I refuse to allow it to happen again.

My whole life was shut down by psychiatry. I got ensnared in it at age 31, having some suffering from trauma, and was drugged up, first antidepressants then antipsychotics together in the ubiquitous for that decade "cocktail". Drugged up, dumbed down and numbed out. Weight gain ruined my body, SSRI's took away my sexuality, Zyprexa made me get diabetic, latuda, seroquel, geodon, Risperdal, Lexapro, Cymbalta, gabapentin -- thrown together and mixed and stripped away (called tweaking, as if they cared about my care). I have probably been in Post Acute Withdrawal Syndrome for the better part of 37 years drugged, because there was no tapering or thinking about possible withdrawal -- it was just change, stop, start, switch, remove, add. Of course there was not a thought or a word given to ever getting off medication, which is nothing less than neuroleptic poison. I lost the ability to think as a self directed individual, I had a decade where I couldn't read (thanks Zoloft), I couldn't set goals, make plans, establish a career, find and maintain loving relationships. Psychiatry is a desolate wasteland. I saw my childbearing years leave, never had the chance to marry or have my own house, home and family. This is what seeking "help " from psychiatry and the mental health system will get you. It's too late for me, but if you're young and still can, run for your life.

Speaking of metabolism of psych drugs contingent on genetical disposition. Does anyone know of interaction of psych drugs with the acid reducing drug omeprazol prescribed for acid reflux. I took this while taking Ritalin and I immediately experienced what I believe was neurotoxicity, within a few days. I've read about another case reported here in Sweden, but no more. That drug, omeprazol, would affect metabolism I think.

I had no idea things were this bad in Canada. I’ve never even heard of some of these treatments in America. And the fact that they are forced treatments makes it even scarier. I’ve been trying to get completely off meds for over ten years and it’s impossible to find any help with tapering.

When a couple of weeks ago I mentioned to my bf, almost like in passing, about ECT he said “well we don’t do that anymore” - he actually didn’t know that it is very much done to this day! And he’s not the average person that may not know all that much about psychiatry and psychology; on the contrary he has both personal experience and has worked in the field years ago. He asked me if I was joking. (Sweden.)

Thank you, thank you. I found your channel while researching how to taper off Mirtazapine, prescribed by my doctor's physicians assistant for serious difficulty sleeping. Apparently M. is a favorite, even with its weird side effects, for "helping" the elderly who have insomnia. I've been on it for 4 or 5 years and my doctor strongly urged me not to discontinue it. The onset of my insomnia was directly after menopause. I'd been on HRT off and on; it was the only thing that helped me to sleep normally (I'm 83, very healthy). But the flawed womens study that established the concern about elevated risk of breast cancer, etc., decades ago is still the source of many doctors' advice. That is why I consented to take Mirtazapine--I thought I had no other option, as they refused to prescribe HRT. Now I've learned that ditching it is going to be tough. I've been on Effexor or the like for 25 years and am wondering now if I should also try to get off the SSRI.

No, until I can walk into the ER and tell them I got a injured by a medication and not be looked at like I’m crazy, it’s okay to disparage colleagues.
Besides, inducing akathisia is the equivalent of inducing brain injury. That might be okay if you are using Narcan to induce withdrawal akathisia in someone dying of an opiate overdose, but someone better be dying to risk using a drug notorious for causing it. If the doctor had to pay for the trust cost their medications caused, they’d have to pay people a million dollars for each year of their suffering. They’d think twice before using akathisia causing drugs.
First, they’d have to TAUGHT which ones do it and how to identify it when it happens. Akathisia is so god damn obvious once you understand it. I couldn’t get doctors to diagnose it with me showing them why I have it and telling them how I got it. Until that changes, disparage away.
12:22 “I think that people need to be really vocal about this because it’s in plain sight. You can go along in your life not realizing how twisted it is until it visits you.”
