You are quite right about Ron being made a goof in the movie. In the books they're more evenly matched but in the movies they decided to let Hermione have all the cleverness and Ron be the comic relief

Hermione was the screenwriter's favourite character so he glowed her up and gave her all of Ron's best bits. It also may have been partially because she was a better actor at the time so they gave her more of the heavy lifting, acting wise.

The American film makers wanted to cast American kids for the roles of Harry, Ron and Hermione. JK Rowling put her foot down and said no and that they must be British actors to keep with the story. This story takes place in the UK. Hogwarts is supposed to be a castle somewhere in Scotland. My husband is from Scotland, BTW. He actually met the Scottish actor Robbie Coltrane (Hagrid) once many years ago in a pub in Glasgow. My husband said that Robbie was very nice and down to earth. He said that everyone in the pub was buying Robbie rounds and that Robbie drank them all. lol Great reaction.

In the book most of the moves Slytherin pulled in Quidditch earned them penalties.
    One dog..with 3 heads. 😂
Ron has 5 older brothers who've done everything already while he's overshadowed. That's why he sees what he does in the mirror. Harry wants a family because he's never had a real one he can remember. Ron wants to be seen for his own accomplishments and not because of his brothers' accomplishments.
Firenze is a centaur. Half man/half horse. A minotaur is half man/half bull.
Harry and Ron are just as competent with spells as most wizards their age. Hermione just studies a lot and is talented with spells.

A sorcerer is someone who uses magic to directly manipulate the world through mystical powers, while a philosopher seeks to understand the world through critical thinking and reasoned analysis, focusing on ideas and knowledge rather than direct physical intervention; essentially, a sorcerer practices magic, while a philosopher studies the nature of reality and knowledge.

Yes, the Dursleys resent having Harry 'dumped' on them out of the blue, and they avoid spending any money they can on him.
So, Harry's broken glasses need replacing and Harry is dressed in the clothes his cousin grew out of.
As for Hogwarts and the Wizarding World, all that is anathema to the Dursley's middle-class sensibilities. They prefer conformity and not showing off. It's embarrassing to be mixed up with all this weird stuff, and they know Harry will be bringing back into their home. Vernon does speak of his intention to "put a stop to all this 'magic' nonsense."
They didn't move, permanently, they just took a trip.
Hagrid is not 'like' a giant, he's a half giant.
His mother was a giant (they average about 20ft tall) and his father was a wizard of unusually short stature.
Half-giants tend to run about 10ft in height, but Hagrid's only about 8ft.
It's not so much the parents, it's Harry that's special.
Voldemort was an extreme enemy to the Wizarding World, slowly taking control and amassing power and followers.
Voldemort came to kill him, but Harry's mother had invested love and protection into Harry and sealed it by giving up her own life for him.
When Voldemort then tried to cast a killing curse on him, the curse bounced off Harry (rebounded) and destroyed Voldemort's body, stopping the danger to everyone in the Wizarding World.
The Boy Who Lived made it possible for everyone to live.
But Voldemort had set up ways to come back into physical form; he's not technically dead.
The Sorting Hat reads each student's core values and matches them to the core values of the appropriate House.
The criteria is not other traits, like talents or hobbies or interests, just the shared values.
And Slytherin is not the 'evil' or 'bad' House, it's just that Slytherin House core values too easily lean to making ethical shortcuts to achieve quick success. They are more likely to think in 'situational ethics'. Wiser Slytherins understand that every choice has a cost and you have to think long-term, not short-term, to succeed.
Ron Weasley comes from a large family with financial challenges. There are two boys who have already left school, Percy who is Head Boy, the twins Fred and George, and now Ron. Next year the youngest, Ginny, will be entering Hogwarts.
This isn't varsity sports, it's intramurals. They're playing within the institution, not playing other schools.
Nicholas Flamel was mentioned on the chocolate frog trading card that Harry collected on the train.
Not a Minotaur; the Minotaur (singular; there's only one) is part man, part bull.
That's a centaur, which is a species of highly-intelligent mythological creatures.
There's a reason Harry has to return to the Dursley home for at least some time every year:
Harry has to live with a blood-relative of his mother's to 'recharge' the protection her death placed on Harry.
It actually keeps Harry and the Dursleys both safe from Voldemort and his followers.
'Malfoy' is based on French roots; 'mal-' means bad and '-foy' means faith.
JK Rowling was very careful how she named many of her characters.
The Harry Potter franchise is incredibly rewatchable. Every time you watch it, you catch something you missed before.

In the books ron was more street smart and as the one who grew up in wizard world he always reminded the other two to use magic when hermione would freeze in panicky situations since she is a muggle born who learned things thru reading but was not around magic as much - in the books ron defeats the troll without hermione reminding him of the spell and when harry says that they need a fire hermione would be like we dont have a stone and ron would be like for gods sake are you a witch or not lmao and ron knows about devils snare and was calm but the other two were super panicky here they gave that moment to hermione - in the books he has a very comedic side but also was very brave, in the movies they just made him harrys sidekick

I have soooo much nostalgia for this movie! It is just perfection! The music, the characters, all of the cool fantastical and magical details (moving staircases, the ceiling changing with the weather/seasons/and holidays, magical food, photos/painting, etc), all of the world building and lore (the Hogwarts school houses, the mystery surrounding Harry and Voldermort, muggles, all of the classes, the spells, etc). Then you have thee perfect cast though they aren’t all 100% spot on they are the perfect actors to bring the characters to life.
I randomly got asked by a friend school if I wanted to go to the movies to see this. My friend had read the book with his mom and I had zero clue about Harry Potter. I left that theater a super fan! I got the book a few weeks later along with a potion making toy set. I was hooked!
My brother used to make fun of me and made fun of all of the silly words like muggle, quidditch, Hufflepuff, etc. Years later when I was a junior in college my brother asked if he could borrow the movies because he watched the first one on tv and wanted to see the rest. Now he’s as big of a fan as I am.
I will say that Harry Potter isn’t my number 1 anymore because I have become more invested in other fandoms like Marvel, DC, The Walking Dead, Stranger Things, Star Wars, etc. That and the author of the books just won’t keep her mouth closed.
What I mean by that is she continues to tarnish this beloved series from wanting to rewrite parts other series or add new bits of lore that just feel more like a joke than actual real Harry Potter lore. And then there is all her political squawking. I don’t want to to get into a whole political discussion but basically I just think she takes things way too far a lot f the time and it rubs me the wrong way. Especially when the whole message of her books had thee exact opposite message.
But I can separate the art from the artist who made it though she makes it pretty hard sometimes lol. But that isn’t the reason Harry Potter isn’t my number 1 any longer. Though it doesn’t help.
