      ...I was out scouting deer sign after a fresh, light snowfall like 30 years ago when I swore I heard a woman screaming Bloody Murder about 100 yards away - as my heart raced and pounded like a jack hammer I zero'd in on the sound and found a cottontail rabbit about 20 - 30 yds away under some brambles in shock and screaming like a woman! There was a ruffled spot in the snow maybe 3' away and looked as if an owl or hawk just swooped down and got its mate - I have spent much of my life in the woods from a very early age, and never before or since have I seen or heard of such a thing. Still get chills thinking about it.

    The sequel to this movie is Hannibal (2001), and the prequel to this movie is Red Dragon (2002). Anthony Hopkins plays Hannibal Lecter in all three of the movies. Technically the chronological order is Red Dragon, Silence of the Lambs, and Hannibal. You should definitely watch the trilogy!

    • @dumy187
      @dumy187 8 днів тому +8

      There's also _Manhunter_ from 1986 (based on the novel _Red Dragon_ ). And it's a Michael Mann film.

    • @AlextheHistorian
      @AlextheHistorian 8 днів тому

      @dumy187 yeah I left that out. I didn't like manhunter, and besides, it doesn't feature Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal, which was the whole point behind my recommendation.

    • @citizenbobx
      @citizenbobx 8 днів тому +2

      If you're really hard-core into the series, Michael Mann directed Manhunter (1986) as a side project while he was doing Miami Vice. It's got Brian Cox as Lecter, but Lecter's less involved in the story, which is way more effed up than this one, which is saying something.
      RED DRAGON is the remake of Manhunter, both were based on the novel Red Dragon. It's an improvement on Manhunter in every way, and follows the book more closely.
      There's also the Hannibal TV show with Mads Mikkelsen as Lecter, which is basically the prequel to RED DRAGON. The series has its fans, but some would say it covers much of the same ground as DEXTER or MINDHUNTER.
      Then HANNIBAL RISING was supposed to be the origin story of Lecter, but both the book and movie were garbage.
      Ridley Scott's big sequel HANNIBAL is decent, but doesn't hit the same heights as Silence. It suffers from no Jodie Foster, who was turned off by the Hannibal novel and didn't want to be involved further.

    • @pulsrmind

      I didn't like Hannibal at all, I choose to ignore that film 😅 Red Dragon was good, not on the level of Silence but better than Hannibal fs.

    • @AlextheHistorian
      @AlextheHistorian 6 днів тому +1

      @@pulsrmind Hannibal is definitely the weaker film of the trilogy...Lecter is just more interesting when he's incarcerated. There's something about the threat of what he can do, vs actually seeing him do it.

    “The Silence of the Lambs” won the Big Five of the Academy Awards: Best Picture, Best Director (Demme), Best Actor (Hopkins), Best Actress (Foster) and Best Adapted Screenplay (Ted Tally), making it only the third film in history to achieve this feat.
    The acting performances are simply outstanding.
    Foster and Hopkins are magnificent.

    2 fun facts! The actor who plays Buffalo Bill also played the Captain in Monk, who is a hell of a lot more cuddly! And when Seth Green auditioned for Chris on Family Guy he thought it would be funny to make him sound like Bill so he worked the accent into his audition, even today you can hear it when he does a deep voice.

    So guys, to answer some questions and clear a few things up:
    The woman in Cast Away was Helen Hunt.
    The girl in the well, Catherine Martin, was Brooke Smith who played Erica Hahn on Grey's Anatomy.
    I also initially thought that was Matthew Modine (Papa) from Stranger Things on my first recent revisit.
    If you want to see some more excellent Jodie Foster movies I recommend
    The Little Girl Who Lives Down The Lane
    The Accused
    Contact
    Taxi Driver
    Panic Room
    Maverick (1994)
    The Brave One

    The guy who wrote Mind Hunters is John E. Douglas, and Jack Crawford was based on him. He is the guy who formed profiling for the FBI. The interviews in Mind Hunters were taken directly from the FBI transcripts word for word. One last thing: John E. Douglas trained my Sister in law, and she used the training to get a serial killer to confess. Before he confessed, he kept getting off.

      John Douglas is incredible. I've read all his books. The actor playing Crawford, is Scott Glenn. He was very against the death penalty. Crawford had him listen to some tapes of a pair of k*llers torturing their victims and laughing, and he said it completely changed his mind about how some people are just evil, and don't really deserve to be in civilized societies.

    Great reaction guys. I'll never get tired of finding new people who have never seen this. Definitely on a very small list of my all-time favorites. This was based on a book which was even crazier. There are two other movies connected to this that are also based on books. One's a prequel (Red Dragon), and one's a sequel (Hannibal). The ending of Hannibal is a little different in the book, but still awesome. Both are worth watching.
    Also, if you haven't seen it, you guys should watch Seven with Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman. Very dark, but an excellent psychological thriller/procedural.

    I went to Kenya back in 1988, on an 18 day camping photo safari. After our first 4 nights camping in the Masai Mara, we all realized that we have had the best roast beef, steak and eggs, beef stew, and sliced beef sandwiches we ever had. While talking with our tour van driver, he informed us on the scarcity of cattle in Kenya, but abundance of other game. We found out after a week, that we had been eating zebra all week long and loving it. It was only after we were told, that a couple people freaked out and said they didn't feel well. Just like when people eat venison, brag up how great the steak is and when you tell them it is deer, they change their mind suddenly I would not have chosen eating zebra, but it was delicious, and I now remember the dozens and dozens of zebra, impala, gazelle, and giraffe that wandered through our camp everyday, walking right past us. (No hunting of elephant, rhino, hippo, crocs, lions, leopard, or other "big name" tourist attracting species, but the ungulates there were everywhere by the tens of thousands.

It also goes over the early days when the FBI first started the program with interviewing serial killers to develop a profile for criminal behavior. 8:24 Anthony Hopkins plays Thor's father, Odin. 1:11:11 you guys need to check out The Society of the Snow, which is based on a true story.

One of only 3 films in history to win the "Big Five" at the Oscars - 'It Happened One Night' (1934), 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest' (1975), and 'The Silence of the Lambs' (1991). You saw the psychiatrist who runs the facility in "X-Men: The Last Stand," where he was interrogating Mystique. Just a bit role. Not to be confused with "Papa," which is played by Matthew Modine. 2001 "Hannibal" 4
    2002 "Red Dragon" 2
    2007 "Hannibal Rising" 1
    I know. The order is worse than the "Star Wars" franchise 😵‍💫.
    "Hannibal Rising" is possibly the most graphic of the lot 🤢 but does give some deep insight on how Hannibal became what he is.

She was doing her rounds for head count at lights out when she noticed many of the inmates would be nude showing full frontal intentionally since it was a female doing head count at the end of the night on her p.m. shift. One even wacked off and aimed his climax at the bars timing her silhouette perfectly as she walked up the upstairs aisle by his cell. She dnk he got her until she did her laundry then noticed her other slacks had possible semen or phlegm on them, down the pants leg. A cult classic by definition is a movie that fails initially but gains a "cult" following later. This movie won Oscars when it released. It isn't a cult classic at all. It's simply a classic

    Great movie and great reactions on your channel. So many things were taken from real life in making this movie. Also besides taking hints from serial killers some say they questioned Ted Bundy for help in catching green river killer in Oregon Washington killings. I think it was a docu of that. Have a great day guys 💯💯💯🙋🏻‍♂️🙋🏻‍♂️🙋🏻‍♂️

    5:12 The guy who played Poppa was Matthew Modine and in 1987 portrayed private Joker in Full Metal Jacket. So, he was younger than Anthony Heald that portrayed Dr. Chilton. I can see the actors in the top-left corner of the paused scene at 5:12. Not sure if that was added during the editing of your reaction or if it’s a feature that is included in service that y’all are watching. If it’s a feature, I sure would like to know which service or platform y’all are watching Silence of the Lambs on, because that would be cool to have!

    Great movie. Loosely based on serial killers Ed Gein and Ted Bundy. Hopkins and Foster definitely deserved their Oscars for their performances. Still a fantastic movie.

    The police can indeed enter and search your house if they suspect something illegal and get a judge to sign a warrant (not hard to get). They can even kick in the door and run in without a warrant if they have "exigent circumstances", meaning if they think it's an emergency or someone's in immediate danger.
    Clarice did an excellent job but screwed up when she ran into that basement alone. If Bill would have killed her, something he very nearly did, she AND Catherine would have ended up as part of his woman suit.

    The story was based on the time that the FBI asked serial killer Ted Bundy to create a profile for the green river killer, when they finally caught him they realised that Bundys profile was pretty accurate. Catherines kidnapping was also inspired by Bundy who would fake having a broken arm and act like he was struggling to get something in his vw beetle and when a woman helped him he woukd hit them over the head and push them into his car.
    The character of buffalo bill was inspired by a few killers like Ed Gein who besides killing 3 people he woukd dig up recently buried bodies and use them to make things like a pair of gloves and a lampshade made of skin and furniture made from bones and skulls.
    Anthony hopkins improvised the lines insulting her shoes and her accent which bothered Jodie Foster because she worked hard to perfect the west Virginia accent.
    The poodle was also in the movies The Burbs, Batman returns and pee wees big adventure.
    The actors who played Bill and catherine actually dated during filming of the movie.

    Anthony Hopkins spent like 16 min. and change on screen in this, and he won The Oscar for Best Actor that year - that's some accomplished acting! ...and Jody got her Best Actress Oscar. in all, the film earned 5 of the 7 Oscars it was nominated for. No, she needs the lambs to be silent. Yes, Hannibal is quite taken with Clarice. You MUST watch the sequel, HANNIBAL (2001), which I think is even better.

    In the book Hannibal has 6 fingers on one of his hands. When he escaped from the big cage he put that hand forward when the guard handcuffed him so he wouldn't notice the piece of metal in the other hand. He knew the guard would notice nothing but his 6 fingers.

    You referenced similarities with Mindhunter. That series is actually based on the true history of the FBI's Behavioral Science Unit (BSU), which is the very unit Agen Starling is trying to join. The training scenes were filmed on location at Quantico, in the real offices used by BSU. Agent Starling was inspired by retired FBI Agent Jana Monroe, who published a book on her experiences hunting serial killers. Another former FBI Agent from the BSU, Candice DeLong of the Killer Psyche podcast, worked with Jodie Foster to hone her character and was her liaison while at Quantico.
