@@MOAB-UT I am healthy and have not had a problem with stones, although have a long history of fibromyalgia. After watching the videos by EO Nutrition and Sally Norton I was shocked to see how many oxalates I have been consuming. Almond flour biscuits, almond butter, spinach, broccoli, etc. Pretty sure oxalate dumping is why I get so itchy when I fast or eat a more carnivore diet. I am wondering if the oxalates have also contributed to fibromyalgia and irritable bladder symptoms, especially after reading the comments under the videos.

@@lindabirmingham603 I have a lot of respect for Sally- very smart woman. I am glad you are limiting oxalates. I eat Walnuts now and limit almonds. I have eliminated spinach and dark chocolate after the news of heavy metals.
Regarding your issue, I highly suspect leaky gut. I just read The Plant Paradox. I learned that the protective barrier in your gut is only 1 cell thick- that's it. When we damage that for whatever reason (oxalates being only one, drugs, even NSAID's, Soda, etc., being others), we can suffer all kinds of auto-immune issues. Docs love their labels. They labelled you with Fibro. That is a cop out. It means, they have no clue so they use a catch all phrase...and likely put you on...wait for it...DRUGS that exacerbate your issues. Do you eat KIMCHI daily (probiotic)? Do you consume MAGNESIUM GLYCINATE daily? With your D, do you take K2? I don't do dairy, soy, almonds, spinach, no whole grains, no seed oil, no sugar, etc. I drink...water. These are a few of the tricks I have discovered along my health journey. It is working out very well for me. I think you can solve your own health issues. If it were me, I would skip ALL DRUGS. I would, and have used nutrition and exercise to heal (two major issues.) I bet you can too.

I have interstitial cystitis (IC) and after seeing several urologists and being exposed to painful tests and awful meds that put me in a coma I discovered the cause of my IC, oxalates! I did a elimination diet and I lived on green smoothies made with leafy greens and almond milk, buckwheat pancakes and chicken. I happened to pick the highest oxalate foods (not the chicken.) I was never worse in my life!! It nearly killed me but I discovered the problem. I cured it right away with a low oxalate diet. I wish I would have known years ago. Not one doctor or urologist mentioned or asked me about oxalates. I had been suffering for 20 years. It comes right back if drink almond milk, eat almond flour, have too much salad or nuts. Fasting usually gives me kidney stones. When a stone is really bothering me, I get on an inversion table for 10-15 minutes. I'll hang upside down, and move around until the stone shifts enough. I also supplement with Hydroxycitrate and Chanca Piedra (aka Stone Breaker).

@@judyevans6074 I've been doing it for about 4 years. I don't take them everyday. I only take the supplements when I feel mild stone pain (3 times a day for it to work properly). For severe pain, I swear by the inversion table. Especially when it's the middle of the night and pain is keeping me awake. The inversion table is the only thing that'll jar the stone loose and break it up. I originally bought the table for lower back pain, and inadvertently found out it helps with stones.

I found out through genetic testing. Had my raw data read. It will show a variety of problematic pathways. If you don't want that venue, one clue may be joints that ache and fatigue. I still snack on a Brazil nut here and there as part of my mixed nuts at my lunches, but shouldnt need to have them every meal.

One thing to remember is that it's the totals that matter, and that depends on how much you eat. I don't eat 100 grams of any of these nuts in a day (that's 3.5 ounces). I am likely to eat 14 grams at a time (that's half an ounce). Sometimes I only eat closer to 7 grams (1/4 ounce) of a particular nut. And I usually eat entirely vegan and have a huge collection of nuts and seeds.... But seriously, 14 grams of nuts is still a lot of nuts.
So you can eat the higher oxalate nuts as long as you don't eat gobs of them. You can eat smaller amounts in a day and rotate which nuts you eat each day, so you get the different benefits of each but also avoid the drawbacks. If oxalates are a problem, you can also make sure that you choose low oxalate ones for the rest of your nutty dietary needs in a particular day.

I just learned about oxalates a few days ago. I been eating mostly walnuts for the past 5 years. A couple years ago I started buying fresh almond butter from the grocery store. I eat large quantities too along with fresh dates. Well time to cut those out. Any idea what nuts are low in oxalates? Thanks

    • @jwoolman5
      @jwoolman5 15 днів тому

@@K-xb2qz- look at the chart shown at time 0:13. (13 minutes into the video, touch the screen and the scroll bar with time stamps should appear at the bottom of the screen.)
His chart indicates that macadamias, pistachios, pecans, and walnuts are relatively low in oxalates. But what really matters is how much you get in a day. So figure out how much you want total and work out how many nuts you can have of what kind from there.
Do you definitely have trouble with kidney stones? If so, have they been tested to see if they are oxalate stones? Do you have any special risk of getting oxalate stones? Remember, if it ain't broke - don't fix it.

I’ve dealt with chronic stones for more than two decades. Two years ago my urologist said to try magnesium (500mg) and B6 (200mg) daily and my stones are down from an average of 1.5cm - 2.5cm down to less than 5mm. And that’s eliminated the need to have procedures to blast them so they’d pass.
I’ve followed the other advice as it is what my doctors recommended but adding the B6 plus magnesium has made a world of difference.
My urologist said it doesn’t work for everyone and works best with women but said it was worth trying as the only side effect would be expensive pee :-). Figured maybe this might help someone else suffering as I have.

Thank you for mentioning oxalate in nuts. Oxalate is in almost all food. We do well to not over eat any High Oxalate foods. Oxalate is not just a problem with kidney stones genetically if one has homozygous SNP's of GRHPR gene oxalates can be more of an issue for them. With symptoms of body pain, and disrupted calcium scores can be a 50% probability. I am pretty sure if oxalate gets studied more information will surface.
If we would not get stuck eating high oxalate food often and if we would eat a seasonal fresh diet the sensitivities may not be problematic.
I was eating lots of almond and drinking almond milk every day for years - NOT Good!
I believe pecans and walnuts are both the lower carb nuts and they also have the best Omega 3 to Omega 6 ratio.
I love nuts but t generally I avoid them as I eat too many and do not feel well when I eat them.
I think they also may be prone to myotoxins due to bulk storage. Better to eat organic and as fresh as possible right out of the shell.
