Spam and cheese fritter sounds interesting, kind of like a really unhealthy British take on a cordon bleu! Battered blakc pudding sounds amazing, but unlikely to find that in the south of England anywhere really. Have you ever tried battered cod roe? That's making a bit of a resurgence in my neck of the woods.
Oh my goodness! We used to spend a week, day-tripping to Lyme, for Dad's Summer holiday (we call it that, but as he had to be available to answer the phone EVERY night, 365/365, for agricultural emergencies it was just a few hours respite each day for a week!) I wonder whether Herbies took the place of a wet fish shop that was there last time I went to Lyme (early to mid 90's) That was owned and run by the family of one of the mackerel boat skippers. Where their hut is, to the right used to be Mrs Symonds old fashioned sweets (her son had a similar set-up with Anderton and Rowlands Fairground - fabulous wasp-filled candy floss and really good tooth-shattering toffee apples!) and beyond her was an ice cream/cold drinks stall. There was a small cafe garden a little further along and it ended with a kiosk that sold the very best soft-serve ice cream you could wish for! (The Aboyne Cafe and ice cream kiosk, where the ice cream was made freshly each day, from 100% Dorset cream) SOOOOO many memories. Sandwiches full of sand, wasps doing kamakazee dives, freshly caught fish hanging on strings over the backs of deck chairs and the sickly smell of a dozen different types of sun tan oil and lotion! BLISS! Nice to see the old second-hand bookshop is still there in that back street! Just wish you'd walked the Cobb wall and shown the mackerel boats - no idea if the old wooden ones still exist. Our favourite was called Anna, the skipper was Mr Haynes. Then when he retired, we'd go out on the Skylark, owned by the Herbert family who later opened the fish stall. Bet you didn't expect to evoke such memories or be bored by it like this! Thanks, truly. A breath of Dorset air!
So nice to hear about your memories of the place ! I do plan to head back down to Lyme at some point, probably likely to be towards the end of the summer with my current schedule, but maybe I can sneak it in earlier - if I do I'll head down the Cobb and get some footage there too :-)
@@GreenoEats you'll be making an old woman very happy! It was Dad's "happy place" and so has a deep significance to me. So many memories made on that stretch of sand.
Lyme regis is a beautiful sea side town,we've been going there since 1979,we always stay in charmouth, we go there to fossil hunt iron pyrite ammonites fossils between seatown and lyme regis, cheers for the video mate.
Hi Christian, yeah Lyme Regis is nice isn’t it. I don’t go that often because I live nearer to Weymouth, Swanage, Lulworth Cove etc. but it’s always a treat to go over there.
Hello Greeno. Robbie from Adelaide, Australia here. Just discovered your channel & enjoying the content very much. Well done & I'm sure 100 subscribers is very close.
Hey Robbie, thanks so much for checking the content, and your kind words, much appreciated!! So you're in Adelaide huh, I hear that is a great place to live - isn't it always highly ranked in those polls about the best places to live in the world? Sounds a bit like Dorset where I am based :-) I hope you continue to enjoy my upcoming videos.
Scrappy chips are the best! We spent a few days in Lyme Regis pre COVID, cracking spot. Tell me, have you had a rissole before? It’s a proper Welsh chip shop item!
A man of my build, who lived for about 12 yrs in South Wales…. I may have partaken in a rissole or two! Pretty good aren’t they. As for the scrappy chips, they’re not for me, I like a nice chunky chip, nice and fluffy on the inside, yum!
@@GreenoEats When we were there last, my daughter had her sausage pinched from her chip box. Shortly after a guy walked onto the beach with about £40 of cod and chips - the top box was open. I said "mate, be careful, my daughter has just had her sausage pinched - watch for the seagulls." He ignored me. He got about ten feet onto the beach before they all swooped, knocking the lot out of his hand and in no time it was all gone. I saw another lady have an ice cream snatched out of her hand as she walked past the beach huts, and someone else had a sandwich taken off her plate in front of the cafe at the bottom of the high street. This was all in one day! I believe at one time they employed bird-of-prey handlers to try and solve the issue but it was too expensive so the council scrapped it. The seagulls are truly awful and I think you were very lucky here! It's all caused by stupid people feeding them of course. I was in Brighton a couple of weeks ago sat on the beach, and some guy was deliberately feeding chips to the gulls. People need to learn there are consequences to doing stupid things.
@@Wally-H Drives me mad watching people feed the gull with no thought as to the knock on effect of that.. does sounds a mad day out you had in Lyme though - the gulls won the day that time!!!
I do love my crispy "scrapy" chips, rather than the really fat potato-y ones that have no crunch. I also love my batter. So, I think if I was there, I would have hoovered up the leftovers. All of that did look really nice.
Mate, my new local takeaway does deliveries, and is my go to Friday night treat. Some of the menu choices are incredible (Chicken Burger with Kebab Meat!!) and the fish and chips are huge!!
I've not been there, will have to give it a try! The best food place I found so far in Lyme was the Whole Hog, you should definitely check that out next time you are in the area 🙂
What a beautiful sunny day to spend by the seaside!
What would be your chip shop "go to" ? I'm a fan of pie and chips, but that's more of a winter thing I think...

Thank you Greeno, my boys loved Lyme Regis, we always had our fish and chips on the beach, I always went for the scallops!! Thank you. 🤗🤗👍👍
Lyme is great isn't it - can get crazy busy in the summer though!!
@@GreenoEats I used to go to Hengistbury Head summer time, and Lyme in the Spring or Autumn, not too keen on crowds!!
When you held up the cod I was expecting a seagull to rip it out of your hand. That's what normally happens in Lyme Regis.
Ha ha, yeah you have to be on your guard. It’s even worse in Weymouth, they hunt in packs there!

Hi Greeno 👋 lovely beach ⛱ another great Review 👍
I am lucky to live near the coast - this one is almost an hour away from me, but always worth the drive!
We always go to the Fisherman's Wife for fish and chips when in Lyme Regis

Love Scampi, in fact I like all the Disney Films.😂
