Only one that was ok was trenchers in Whitby, apart from that North East chippies can't do proper chips 😮😮😮

Along with her frittas and a huge amount of them along with a large amount of paprika and tomatoes in her pork casseroles and spaghetti Bolognase sauces. As kids we used to nag mum for evermore chilli flakes and paprika in the 2 latter dishes.
Good to build up a tolerance to spice from an early age. Mum used to make pickled onions, and sometime would put some chillis in to to "enhance" the vinegar. You'd get a real chilli heat in those onions, they were fierce!!
@GreenoEats as shrek says he is like an onion with multiple layers, and as the onion is liquid permeable that is a huge surface area to such the heat into. As well as the vinegar sensitising the mouth. Making the chilli burn more. My mum's mum forced her to make pickled onions and jams as a child. Which made her hate it. Looks fracking freezing I’m glad I’m in boiling heat in Thailand with air con 😂 I do miss traditional fish and chips it’s my favourite British meal and that looked good for the price as Gary would say let’s give it a go!
Hi Greeno, it's quite strange to watch a chippy review in such cold weather. ❄️ You managed very well with it all in the car. I would have sent it flying! Haha The food looked really good & the pie... Yum! Little bit of a shame with the cod, as it would have made it all perfect otherwise. On a few of Gary's reviews, he has commented on how good triple cooked chips are, but I don't know what the process is for double or triple cooked... Will have to look it up. Enjoyed that alot Greeno & of course, now all I want is a fish & chips! Might have to treat myself during the week. Take care & see you on the next one. 😊
Double cooked normally means the chips are blanched in oil around 140c to cook them, then the second cook is at a higher temp, around 180c to crisp and colour them. The triple cook is often a par boil first, to help fluff up the edges, which should make the outside of the chip crispier during the frying process.
@GreenoEats Thanks. I can't say I've ever noticed double or triple cooked chips on a menu here in Sydney, but it sounds like a great way to prepare them & very tasty.
That looks like a cracking deal for a tenner. You've defo got a loin cut which is much better than the tail end in my opinion, but it does dry out slighty depending on the thickness. Pie looks good too, we need more places like this on our streets and less tom kerridge establishments I'd take 4 of these over a 9 chip fish supper 😂 Safe travels home Greeno
That pie, looked awesome. Yes i can see what you mean, about the fish, basically where was it? A little on the small size. Great video, can't wait till the next one.
Spot on comment about tartare sauce. Bearing in mind it's got oil and egg in it (that's the mayonnaise base) if you don't add gerkin and capers it's adding extra oiliness to the fish experience. Too much, too much. About the fish, unfortunately they come in different shapes and sizes, so there's variability in the cook if you have a "one size fits all" approach.
That's why top restaurants buy fish individually from the fresh market. Someone is down there eye-balling the fish, not just buying by weight. If you just order say 100 kilos of XYZ, you're going to get all sorts.

Interesting - I used to eat my share of Clark's pies back in the day, until once I found some kind of unidentifiable tubing in it (could have been rubber, could have been part of a cow) - not touched one since, and that was about 25 years ago!
Wow that pie! Nothing worse that biting into a pie for it all to be air with hardly any filling, looked great! Shame about the Cod, hopefully you just got unlucky. I’m an Irish curry man myself, like that extra kick. Great review 👍
I love that it is snowing, can we swap? we are in first few days of summer and already 38c. Yum my most favourite pie is mince and onion. Shame about the cod. Enjoy your Wednesday :)
Most of it looked good. Mushy peas looked fit for layering bricks, and the fish could have been better. Everything else looked fine ...3.5 to 4 seems reasonable. Hard weather conditions out there, but you got the job done 👏
HI Greeno.Yes another good review ,it was a shame that it was cold and wet so you missed all that lovely welsh air on a sunday day. I agree with you that the fish was not cooked right but I would have just been happy with that stunning pie and chips. I am not a fan of mussy peas or having gravy, So my mark for Pie and chips would be 4/5.
A good 4/5 with 1 mark off with the fish, otherwise the sauces, chips and the pie was excellent value and good an overall winner- especially the pie value😊...oops have i said that twice i must have been impressed😅
Mushy peas is a real English thing in a chippy, never heard of 'Irish' curry sauce as it tends to differ from county to county but it looked nice and thick. £2.50 for a locally made pie, hmm well that pie looked the best I've ever seen from a chippy, plenty of filling. I can see how they got the vote

Hello Greeno, thought you went to Wales to take the waters and enjoy the weather 🤔☔❄️🌬️🌩️⛄he he, no stop messin' about. First glance at the food.Size of the Cod looked small, then told the cost of it. And my soul wept. It would have been at least £10/£12 pounds in my neck of the woods (London) so it gets a pass. Plus it sounded OK, fair crunch. Proper chippy chips, right mixture of plump and scraps. Lovely. Peas😊😊Curry sauce 🤢🤮not my favourite additive to a fried meal. Pies, all the standard chip shop offerings, steak and kidney or mince and onion get my vote. But at £2.55.at this point, my heart joined my soul in tears. At least £5+down here😢🥧😢I do love & enjoy a hand held pie, especially such a well filled one. Just a side thought. Winning awards, doesn't have to mean your the best, could be the others are c**p🤔🫢From a Londoner the cost is a bargain. So, dear sir as you head homeward. Wrap up snug and dry. Drive safely. And see you in the next video Allan&Family
That pie, perfect "chip shop" pie - well filled, and a bargain price. The chips were good, the curry excellent. Just a shame the fish itself was a bit of a letdown. But I would defnintely go back at some point and give them another try. In the summer..... :-)
I disagree - if it had been properly battered (mutilple dipping) then it would have formed the hard shell and not let all the oil in. The pie I agree on though, for a chip shp pie it was spectacular!
Southerners and inclement weather just has me in stitches , the whole South closes down if the temperature drops into single figures 🤣 Chips for twice cooked didn't look that crispy , peas should have pea wet but these in my opinion looked too dry , fish was thin and I personally prefer lightly battered and that clearly wasn't. Pie was the real deal and the best value product you purchased....am I being too harsh , absolutely not as prices have risen and standards clearly dropped. Hope my opinion doesn't offend and thank you for such a great vlog my friend 👍
Be fair - I was sat outside Murgatroyds in a polo shirt not long ago haha!! I agree the pie (and the curry sauce) was the star of the show here - everything else enjoyable, but the fish was a bit of a letdown.
@GreenoEats damn it, I commented before the pie! It looked amazing in fairness. I'm Irish but lived in Manchester as a kid and chippy meat pies are legendary. One thing I definitely miss!
Best things from that were the pie chips & curry sauce. Very unimpressed with the fish cooking & the mushy peas (far too thick) Yuk I hate all MP’s anyway 🤮Not sure who the competition was for that award Not a high bar maybe. Value for money & sustainability v good. 3.5 out of 5. Commend your efforts getting out content The weather looks Baltic! 🥶❄️Appreciate it! Go get a hot drink Tyvm & take care 😊

Thanks Stan - definitely one of the better chip shop pies I have had, and only £2.55 for it too - bargain!
That did look so good . I look forward to watching after work.
fish was a bit of a letdown, but the rest was excellent!
I randomlly laugh when you do......quite entertaining
It must be contagious!
Caerphilly does it!
Nice one!
I love that it is snowing, can we swap? we are in first few days of summer and already 38c. Yum my most favourite pie is mince and onion. Shame about the cod. Enjoy your Wednesday :)
I think I would prefer snow to 38c ! That's too hot for this pale Englishman!
Most of it looked good. Mushy peas looked fit for layering bricks, and the fish could have been better. Everything else looked fine ...3.5 to 4 seems reasonable. Hard weather conditions out there, but you got the job done 👏
Not gonna let a bit of snow stop the Greeno Eats review train !!
Deano would faint at those prices 😂😂😂😂😂
haha
HI Greeno.Yes another good review ,it was a shame that it was cold and wet so you missed all that lovely welsh air on a sunday day.
I agree with you that the fish was not cooked right but I would have just been happy with that stunning pie and chips.
I am not a fan of mussy peas or having gravy,
So my mark for Pie and chips would be 4/5.
For just the pie and chips it would be a 4.5 from me - they were great.
Greeno, the 2nd fry is supposed to be at a bit higher temperature. It pushes out the grease/oil/tallow n crisps up even more.
Yes, that's how I cook chips - blanche at a lower temperature, approx 140C to cook the spud, then again at around 180C to crisp and colour the outside
looks great!! weather looks terrible though!!
The weather was terrible on the day of filming, drove through almost blizzard conditions!!
The chips look banging Greeno!
They were very good chips indeed!
Please don't use the word banging with food. It remainds me of the bathroom scene in Kevin and Perry Go Large.
@@robertshepherd-mo9vw haha!
That's a brilliant pie. Use to have pukka pies back in Kent in my past, they were similar
A great pie, and such a great price too!!
Pukka pies have gone downhill all pastry and very little filling these days, used to be so much better.
A good 4/5 with 1 mark off with the fish, otherwise the sauces, chips and the pie was excellent value and good an overall winner- especially the pie value😊...oops have i said that twice i must have been impressed😅
Yes, apart from the fish I could have no complaints! But the fish is a huge part of the fish and chips experience, so should be better!
The pie was absolutely great, so well filled and so tasty!
Good video as always 😀 jag önskar dig en riktigt trevlig helg. 😀
Jag hoppas att du också njuter av den här helgen Mattias!
I like your jacket
Thanks Tom!
It's got to be said Greeno, your Reviews knock Gary Eats' reviews into a cocked hat - Keep up the good work !
?? Seriously - Eating F&C’s in a steamed up car in Wales Are we watching the same food reviewers ?? 🙄😮No disrespect to G intended He’s got his own style - no need to compare
@@Patsy154 The comparison was not made on just one Review, it was based on multiple Reviews over a long period of time on many different food subjects !!! Greeno all the way !!!
That’s kind of you to say so, we have different styles I think… he’s the one food reviewer I watch every single video of as I think they’re very good, as well as him being a friend!
I’ve seen him eat a jacket potato in a park….. haha!
You always get the jealous ones of Gary and Paul is one of them, look at all of his past comments. They’re all about Gary, how embarrassing is that? You don’t have to put someone else down in order to praise others. 🤡
You are in my home village!! Gutted i didnt see you!
Maybe next time! 🙂
Not the best idea watching this so late ...I'm ravenous now 😂It all looked delicious😋
Sorry about that haha!
I was born in Treorchy, not that far away from here, many crackin' Chip Shops in the Valleys or thereabouts. That nosh looks tasty!
Yep - I used to live in Caerphilly and certainly visited a few back then!!
Haven't watched the video yet, but I'm loving the coat. I need one.
I was t outside in Yorkshire in a polo shirt the other day - so you know if the big coat comes out then it's properly Baltic!!
@GreenoEats Can't even feel the heating on the last few days here. My weather app side last night it was 12C. Was it hell.
When you are back in the west Midlands you should come Spon Lane chips shop in West Bromwich they do nice pie and chips they the best chips shop in the black country keep up the good work from Marie 😁
Thanks for the tip Marie!
Greeno never heard of Irish curry sauce in my life travelled the length and breadth of the country never seen ut yet 😅 Paul Belfast.
Maybe that's just what it's called here. It's a darker sauce with more depth of flavour that regular chip shop curry.
Top quality greeno
Thank you sir!!!
Hi Greeno, the fish fillets there is a gap in the batter because fish aren't made in a factory ! It was an unfair comment. Good pie .😬🐸
I disagree - if it had been properly battered (mutilple dipping) then it would have formed the hard shell and not let all the oil in. The pie I agree on though, for a chip shp pie it was spectacular!
Lovley grub ❤
The pie was exceptional, as was the curry sauce!
Southerners and inclement weather just has me in stitches , the whole South closes down if the temperature drops into single figures 🤣
Chips for twice cooked didn't look that crispy , peas should have pea wet but these in my opinion looked too dry , fish was thin and I personally prefer lightly battered and that clearly wasn't.
Chips and curry sauce were the star of the show. Can't beat Irish chipper curry sauce mate
Don't forget the pie - that was a belter!!
@GreenoEats damn it, I commented before the pie! It looked amazing in fairness. I'm Irish but lived in Manchester as a kid and chippy meat pies are legendary. One thing I definitely miss!
June weather in Wales. 😆
Haha - you're not far wrong as I recall !!
The pie, chips and curry were the highlights certainly- much needed on a very cold day!
Nice of you to come back Caerphilly way Greeno, fair review, my uncle just lives around the corner and complained about the fish to me as well. Must be the luck of the draw. Hope you have a safe trip back down south. Best wishes, Brian
Thanks Brian - the fish was the only letdown on an otherwise excellent experience. But the fish is a key element to get right!!
@ I agree 100%. My favourite around here is Fish Kitchen, there are too many takeaways this way to choose from! Keep up the good work. 👍👍
The pie is cheaper than a $7 luxe box from Taco Hell!❤
£2.55 for that pie - incredible value certainly!
I think you should try The Queens Head in Brook Green in Hammersmith for fish n chips. The Curry sauce is amazing and the…… try it yourself and see Greeno.
Thanks for the tip, I will have a look.
Irish curry sauce is a game changer in chippies when it is done well
It certainly is !!
If it’s not snowing it’s raining there! 😂 top video Greeno, was this a local chippy for you when you lived back there mate?
I am so hoping you get 3 points tomorrow!! Are you visiting the Black Country tomorrow? ⚽️ ….Smithy
Haha - I am from Dorset mate - that's snow as far as we are concerned!! When I lived there it was a chip shop on that site, but not run by the same folk (and it was rubbish!) I did leave Wales in about 2010 mind.
Definitely hoping for 3 points, although Wolves seem to have hit a little patch of form, so won't be easy. Not heading up for this as Mrs Greeno has arranged a dinner out for us with another couple, so need to be in Dorset!!
@ ahhh Greeno we are at home too, we could of sorted that food out at the Red Lion in West Brom after the Match!! 😂
@@theabandonedhunter3604 haha - yes indeed Smithy!!
You're a savage!
However, you have just cause. Good review. Glad the food was as good as it was. Especially on a cold, wet day.
That pie was a proper winter warmer, and much needed on that chilly day!
blimey Greeno you danced around the topic of the cooking oil several times without mentioning which oil is actually used..its palm oil..if you'd had the haddock like i do i reckon you would have struggled to finish it cos there's so much of it..yaki da boyo😊
Diolch! I wish I had ordered a more substantial fish, a that could have elevated the meal if it had been battered well!
