My God thank you so much. My elbows and forearms are pain free now that I've added facepulls and fixed up my grip and positioning the elbows. You are a legend sir
Thank you Brendan for all your videos, I'm really glad I discovered you on UA-cam. It warms my heart that there is someone like you who uploads information like this for the masses. I learned more from your videos in six months than 4+ Years in my entire lifting career.
This guy’s legit! Thanks Brendan! Keep up the amazing work with all the amazing content and transparency! Oh and def like the old school white board way of teaching. Keep doing you brotha
Gold content here, I'll definitely apply some of these tips in my next training session. And it's great to see all the positive transformations that you have been experiencing.
Good stuff Brendan. Remember, many people in history are not remembered on a global level until later in their lives or until after they die We all go through Trauma at some point of our lives. I look forward to following your journey to a more spiritual message, as I think this will help many more people
Wonderful! My coach asked me to retract my lats and make it down and have my elbow down. I don’t understand and found it difficult and confusing to manage this. But you explained. Balance…great
I completely agree with you regarding the value of being able to respectfully discuss different views, beliefs and convictions. We would all be better off focusing on what we have in common, rather than demonizing and hating on others due to differences. Different is fine. Respect is needed. We need less polarization and contention. GO UNITY!
Great start for an even greater series! Looking forward to the programming episode as I'm currently struggling to properly implement squats in my bodybuilding-contest prep. I can't decide if I wanna continue high-bar squatting twice a week as I usually do in my off-season or switch one day for sth like a pendulum squat. Keep up the great work, Brendan!
Hey Brendan, thank you, this Video came right on time, ususally i got used to the false grib aka the starting strength grib, with a straigth wrist, elbows down... Today i changed to a full grib and i get much more tension from Hands to back, it felt save and it was easier to hold the weight locked, really appreciate your stuff bro. Salute 💪🏾🖤
You possibly might be seeking for stability in extension as it gets heavier too. I’d recommend really focusing on bracing and the proper breathing technique along with muscle tensioning, it’ll help create stability so you don’t have to extend which limits depth
I agree so much that powerlifting and strength sports are like the only sports that hate on stretching and or mobility. I used to play baseball and everyone recognized the importance of shoulder mobility. My prediction is that eventually mobility/stretching work will be proven to be helpful for getting stronger just like cardio was proven to enhance gains and everyone will promote it. May take 5-10 years though for some study to come out
Excellent! New info. Very cool. Only improvement I’da liked is you SHOW it at the rack while you’re explaining it…or get a 2nd guy to show these corrections.
High bar is real easy to fit in without negative effect on low bar. It mostly just compliments it. Do low bar on heavy day and higher rep volume work high bar in secondary day.
This is why you should train your individual fingers for grip strength with hex and barbell holds(there are other ways) and when gripping focus on squeezing your pinky as hard as humanly possible it instantly make the ring finger stronger and in turn the other digits as well. Should also grip the bar for dl’s at the base of your fingers not up in your palm may seem weaker at first trust me it’s stronger and much less chance of losing the lift in comp because the bar won’t roll which is a what breaks your grip also you’ll tear less calluses. GL
I haven’t tried individual finger grip work, that sounds interesting. For dl I do a deep palm on dl bars and finger grip on stiff bar. DL bars bend and thus the bar your gripping is bent and not a straight line. This makes finger tip grip less reliable which is why Dan green, herbie and all the best dl bar pullers either do a deep palm or hook grip. However on stiff bar or below about 700 on dl bar the finger tip grip seems to work well
@@BrendanTietz interesting hopefully I’ll experience that problem soon lol…up to 642 in comp on Texas dl bar at home I train Ohio dl bar and so far never lost a pull or even had one slip at all but like you said mabi 700+ will be different 👍🙏💪
Thanks bro I did full grip on squat and strained my elbow. In all seriousness I've tried everything and went to physio multiple times and no matter what I can't improve my shoulder flexibility
I have a couple old ones somewhere but mostly just on our website for members. I’ll try making one sometime soon! You should def try and hire someone or at least get an account for group coaching. I don’t push anyone to it unless it can actually hugely help. Trying to solve this on your own is difficult. Every great lifter has a coach!
Brendan I have been following your content for its niche as unique and in-depth takes on powerlifting/strength training practical advice and did not like the recent shift to spirituality. It is great to see you excited about your personal journey and wanting to share your insights but I feel like the concept of integrating spirituality and fitness coaching might not work as well unless you shift into more fitness for the general population and as such benefit less from your specific experience in advanced strength coaching. There is a reason why you get so great feedback on your recent more traditional content, and that is because you are without a doubt good at it and have experience / results that makes your advice authoritative. If you feel a career switch is what's best for you because maybe you feel burned out or bored then you gotta do that but I feel like Unity might not be as sound of a business idea as perhaps investing more into and further building your existing company profile long term. That's just my two cents obviously with little information on how your business is actually doing and what you are going through personally. Wish you great success man, whatever you decide to do in the future.
I depress slightly and rotate the shoulder (elbows down) slightly. I used to dramatically drop elbows and it worked but as I mentioned the form is always fluid based on where my body is at
More than likely from improper shoulder positioning or because your squat rack isn’t in check. Rarely do I see bench causing problems, only exacerbating it. It’s usually the squat and shoulder mobility their either compressing the bicep tendon that runs into the shoulder or creating distal bicep pressure from the arms holding the bar instead of the shoulders
Hey Brendan and fellow squatters, can someone help me with this puzzle. When I try to increase my high bar and front squat I tend to fail miserably, however my low bar progresses very well in a few different basic programs. Also when I go back to high bar from low, it’s much stronger but from the low bar work?? Any insights much appreciated 👊
I personally don’t subscribe to any “ism” however at one point I considered myself leaning towards eastern spirituality. These days ironically I find myself immersed into deep esoteric Christianity but I’ve personally experienced god. The second that happened all religion fell away and these days I just study it for fun.
Im a Christian not bc of my experiences but bc of the evidence. But I've had two supernatural spiritual experiences where I was completely overwhelmed. 1 was when i was 14 studying Taoism the other was 5 yrs ago while a Christian
Ohhh yes. Love this content. Omg dude freaking gold here. All your content is mint . Surprised your channel isn’t bigger!

I’d def go once per week if at all if it’s a full prep for stage! Completely different approach when you start dieting! Recovery becomes hellll lol
Made it to the end of the vid. Good to see you thriving and making moves brother. 🙏🏾

Great information.
Loving the return of the whiteboard
Literally what I was strugling with past month!
Much appreciated 🙏
best coach ever a comment for the algooo God Bless
Great video! When I’m super tight I can’t get depth because I feel too much in extension. I’m going to be working on correcting this now!

Hi! This is amazing. Keep it up please 👌🏽
Thank You Brendan!
You’re very welcome!
Great video!
This was super insightful 👌
Glad I provided substance 🤙🏼
@@BrendanTietz gonna try active tension of scaps again during squats. Felt fine during secondary squat day, gonna fuck with primary.
Cant wait to see you talk how you fit in/program high bar without it interfering with low bar volume

Physios are no good usually, hire Derek Akunne and he’ll fix it. I promise you you’re just not doing it right.

just one question : do you just depress your shoulders or do you also actively pull your elbows down ?
I depress slightly and rotate the shoulder (elbows down) slightly. I used to dramatically drop elbows and it worked but as I mentioned the form is always fluid based on where my body is at
@@BrendanTietz I meant pulling the elbows down like in a lat pulldown, pulling away from the bar more than rotating the elbows down…

hey brendan, can you explain why some lifters like me get bicep tendonitis from bench press?
