Your production quality has skyrocketed! You really figured out when to go the extra mile in editing, sound, animation, etc. and you have found an amazing balance of informative and demonstrative. Rhythm is the toughest for me and this really helps. Keep it up man!

This is a gratifying and vindicating video. My music education did not include any practical tips for hearing or performing precise polyrhythms other than the 3:2 and 4:3. Anything else was handwaved away as "rubato," and for some styles of music that was fine. I worked my way up to clockwork versions of 3:5 and 4:7 by myself, using many of the same strategies described here.
I don't really get why classical music education doesn't insist more on polyrythms when so many modern composers use them, the most notable of which include Bartok & others.

hey i learned this stuff many years ago, one of my first experiences was The black Page of Frank Zappa and next some works of drummers like Bill bruford and Mike mangini, in fact i printed a Berklee web Page all about developing independence with metric modulation where they analized a brufordss tune that has implied metric modulations.. until i met chris dave i was developing a way to improvisation with pollyrhythms, then i realized that in history we used only 10% of the rhythm palet available... any binary o triplet o quíntuplet o septuplet and so on rhytm can be reconstructed 'inside any other' polimetry (for example in 11:7 would be funny if its used in a tune in 7/8 where you can play triplets grouping the notes of the eleven pulse) and whith only that, and the correct way to internalize for a jazz way to improvisation, one can slowly learn to figure out how to play any rhythm in any tempo, maintaining the original tempo! i have barely seen other musicians and composers that could use the académic notion of metric modulation like Chris Dave in a context of improvisation, with full full acuraccy even mathemathically, and the fact that he just throw those modulations like an emotional jazz musical exploration

I’m in a percussion ensemble this year, José Before John 5 (if you don’t know it check it out, it’s dope) and there’s a 7 : 11 polyrhythm near the end. I’m honestly amazed at how much of a genius this dude is. Great work, Adam. Keep it up.
Adam is like _that one guy_ who you go to meet for interesting explanations for things, but as he goes into the finer points of "the lick", his house starts falling apart because he kind of forgot about the oven, the shower, the lick, the oven and the fact that his house is mostly built of cardboard and now you're trying to understand his explanations to the best of your ability while the house and the world around it devolves into a post-modern artistic mess as Adam masters the art of not letting chronically falling down the stairs interrupt his straight nine hour *BASS* practice sessions with art critics gathering around and trying to rate the quality of the jazz music that isn't even being produced at the moment. The post-credits scene is definitely David Bruce with an eyepatch breaking into what's not left of Adam's home with Ben Levin and informing him that they're going to create a new composer team. Man, good times. Best episode of Seinfeld I've ever witnessed.

Feels more like promoting free education for the collective benefit of humanity on the backdrop of an aesthetic stemming from capitalism, pretty anti-cap, that sounded super pretentious but I couldn't really find another way to accurately describe it
This gave me a lot to think about in ways I didn't know to think. And made it pretty easy to conceptualize. I enjoy the music nerdiness of the video as well as the great editing and realize what you shared gives me something to push out into compositionally that I haven't explored before. I don't find too much of that sort of territory these days, so thank you! I think I'm three years late to the party to be posting my own 7:11 contribution, though. We'll see if I come up with anything. When you were using words to envision these types of rhythms, it reminded me of the jazz thing "who parked the car, who parked the car, I did, park the car." I learned that for something to cross play triplets against 4/4, I think.
That is one of the most fascinating videos I've ever seen. I'm drummer so I almost always play a 4/4 rhythm (sometimes 3/4) but the idea of a 7/11 has definitely changed my view on rhythm.

This is dope!!! I took a huge fascination with polyrhythms in high school when I played marching bass drum. I remember a private lesson teacher showing me a similar trick for writing out polyrhythms without using notation to help me with subdividing quintuplets.

Adam is like _that one guy_ who you go to meet for interesting explanations for things, but as he goes into the finer points of "the lick", his house starts falling apart because he kind of forgot about the oven, the shower, the lick, the oven and the fact that his house is mostly built of cardboard and now you're trying to understand his explanations to the best of your ability while the house and the world around it devolves into a post-modern artistic mess as Adam masters the art of not letting chronically falling down the stairs interrupt his straight nine hour *BASS* practice sessions with art critics gathering around and trying to rate the quality of the jazz music that isn't even being produced at the moment. The post-credits scene is definitely David Bruce with an eyepatch breaking into what's not left of Adam's home with Ben Levin and informing him that they're going to create a new composer team. Man, good times. Best episode of Seinfeld I've ever witnessed.

I am not a musically gifted person and honestly don't really have a whole lot of interest in music theory and the technical aspects of music...well that is until I found this channel! These are just so well made they are easy to watch even for my plebeian eyes and ears. Thanks!

This gave me a lot to think about in ways I didn't know to think. And made it pretty easy to conceptualize. I enjoy the music nerdiness of the video as well as the great editing and realize what you shared gives me something to push out into compositionally that I haven't explored before. I don't find too much of that sort of territory these days, so thank you!
I think I'm three years late to the party to be posting my own 7:11 contribution, though. We'll see if I come up with anything.
When you were using words to envision these types of rhythms, it reminded me of the jazz thing "who parked the car, who parked the car, I did, park the car." I learned that for something to cross play triplets against 4/4, I think.

I'm drummer so I almost always play a 4/4 rhythm (sometimes 3/4) but the idea of a 7/11 has definitely changed my view on rhythm.

This is dope!!! I took a huge fascination with polyrhythms in high school when I played marching bass drum. I remember a private lesson teacher showing me a similar trick for writing out polyrhythms without using notation to help me with subdividing quintuplets.
Just had a ptsd episode from doing this in my solfege class in college lol
