These bridges are made out of natural sunlight that I pump in from the surface. If you pressed your cheek against one, it would be like standing outside with the sun shining on your face. It would also set your hair on fire. So don’t actually do that.
@@SkymustbelimitedNo, this is a perfectly grammatical way to use "than" for comparison. You don't need to say "than what" here. Although you could argue the sentence should end with "to sound like", which may have been slightly clearer.
@@official_Quube yeah a lot of people overcomplicate the type of music they listen to when the answer is just “comedy songs” or in this case “aggressive polyrhythms that people with adhd like”
the main beat is mostly consistent through the whole track which serves as a grounding point for your ears. I imagine if you removed the unce-ing it would be quite a bit more disorienting
I think this stresses phasing and subdivision more than polyrhythms. Steve Reich popularized phasing in the 60s. Music for 18 Musicians is a masterpiece.
This is a master class in how to keep a song interesting with those subtle and not so subtle changes. Not only due to the actual melody but also those constant refreshes keep the song interesting. I can't believe somethinh like this not only does not get old but demands you to listen and listen again. ❤
Weirdly, the stuff at 1:42 and 1:53 are EXACTLY what I hear on DMT. At least one of the common sounds. That weird, swirling, gurgling effect that changes timing
i read this comment at the exact moment the beat and the melody aligned, i burst out laughing like a maniac and might be arrested for causing ruckus at a hospital at 3:46am
@@kayasia8916 I swear what makes this so good is sitting there and waiting for that part to come. Is this some sort of phenomenon? Like it happens during the whole track where there are these certain moments that just sound so satisfying but we have to wait for a build up of off tempo beats until we get there
@@Cohen- I feel the same way, the eardrum does take on different physical shapes for different sounds, so this feeling might be literally a massage for our ears
i thought this was just a shitpost and ignored it for a few weeks but youtube insisted on continually recommending it to me and holy, i am so glad i finally clicked it. this is wonderful
exact same experience, the algorithms are starting to get more and more attuned to our actual patterns of thought, to the point where some vague association you had with a certain video suddenly actually shows up in the recommended column. i always keep thinking like it can't be good to allow a company to hook into your mind like that, but i'm also learning and seeing so many different things.
So it's like that trick when they start a row of pundulums swinging together but they all have gradually varying lengths... So they slowly go out of sync, then apparent chaos, then partial patterns... And eventually they all return to being in sync.
Yeah bro, it's like kinda rickety and springy in a way. Like a train almost derailing, stablizing before it crashes, continuing to glide along. in the most beautiful, metaphoric sense of course. No one likes a train crash lol
I love raw screen recordings of someone’s DAW project, feels much more genuine. It’s like instead of showing someone a finished painting, you show the canvas and colors used
Yeah every time I go to an art museum (as an artist this is often enough) I see all the wonderful paintings and think, "Gosh if I knew that exact red this would feel so much more genuine."
Agreed. I should make some more. I think this kind of thing will become even more precious to be able to witness if AI continues on its path, as much as I appreciate its capabilities.
1:55 when it hit, my body simply couldn't handle it. It tensed up entirely, sending my blood pressure through the roof. You gotta put a warning label on this one!
Now that you say it, yes. And I’m going to be coming back to this video whenever I need a mental break so I can just space out and stare at it for almost 8 minutes straight XD
I mean bro just systematically made every tune possible people will make a tune especially since the visuals look cool and we already invested time in the video...take the small tunes until it becomes a mess of synthy xylofon sounds or door bell chime
@@meh6513 Clean design and elegant ideas are often easy to execute technically. Thinking up the concept itself though, especially one people haven't seen/heard before, that's tricky.
@@YourFaceisPretty I think a kid with enough time can think and manually do this... At least the polyrhythms part... The algorithm making process is more interesting that's true
See, this shows me outright that you, Virtual Riot, are truly a person whose interest in making music goes far beyond just wanting to make release-worthy stuff. Getting into the nitty-gritty of it all.
Reminds me of when your listening to a good beat in the car, you want to turn at a stop light and the sound of your blinker slowly starts to match the beat, then you notice the blinker from the car ahead slowly starts to match the beat too, and then you realize the second car’s blinker ahead of you starts to match the beat, then the light turns green and everything slowly goes out of sink again, but that moment where everything was in rhythm and lighting up right on time was just perfect
@@cheese2355 Bruh, catnip is just mint that cats like. Idk what about the name made it sound so horrific that you didn't want to know what it was and furthermore, how the hell do you not know what catnip is? 😂
i've heard a few songs with a similar sound/vibe i just cant place any of them right now. 2 are from the monstercat library but beyond that i cant remember
Man, I was expecting something done as a joke or to show what happens when you push the boundaries of a setting. Instead it was 8 minutes of sleek, serene vibes. A nice surprise!
@@veryspicywater which part don’t you understand? It’s not very complicated; the polyrhythm has sections that make up noticeable rhythms and some that sound out of time. He uses filters and effects (which you can see the automation patterns for at the start) to make the off-time parts less noticeable while bringing ur attention to the frequencies where the “on tempo” sounds are. Next time just tell people you don’t understand, no need to be so confidently wrong.
This is fucking _gorgeous._ So many spots where the rhythm and melody come from _just_ out of phase to meshing _just right_ for a second or two, and every time they go back out of phase, you've still got that driving rhythm to keep your feet and head moving. So so so so beautiful, this. Well done!
In music theory, polyrythms are two or more different rhythms layered over one another. The point is that they start together, make interesting and cool sounding rhythms in the middle, and finally close with a synced up hit.
@@WiggyWamWam seriously. i've been seeing a lot of "polyrhythms" on youtube, but they aren't like.. quantified or understood in the song itself? i don't know how to explain, but its just like a mathematical stretching of all notes across whatever scale, adding space in between. Seriously not the way they're used in actual music and very weird to even call it "polyrhythmic" when really the rhythm is changing every 0.001 seconds. just a sliding time change that is very whacky
@@tabbycrumch3062I feel like there are several sections in here where the backing beat could have done a time signature change or something that would have gone hard as fuck. I dunno seems like a cop out to just throw a boots and cats beat on it and call it day Edit: not to disparage the creator or anything you may not have been trying to make a masterpiece work of art I recognize that and it's still enjoyable content, I'm just speaking within the context of this thread.
I thnik there's the magic trick at play here. Seems like the drums are linked to E8 (topmost) note throughout the entirety of the song. Which makes it always in sync with something.
The experience of watching this at 11 : 30 at night while being that weird kind of tired where your brain decides to lose focus every minute or so and your eyes are weirdly heavy (like not very but still a little) is unrivaled

Brilliant how it shows how the perception of time and space creates the illusion of new melodies and note sequences even though they are always the same
Agree, I think there's like moments like that you could loop and make a bit more of a conventional track sound great. I'm sure lots of people are doing it with the session file.
@@RJ1J Yeah, that element of the track is pretty cool. It sounds like it's reaching a drop, and then keeps on morphing and evolving to the next one. Really wanna here a finished version, though, where moments like that actually stick - that would be really cool!
Or... a space elevator that plays the first half on the descent and the second half on the ascent. It will be the greatest elevator music to ever exist in human history.
that sounds like an amazing like animated series or something. it'd be the type of kids' show that you'd keep going back to as an adult and shi cuz it'd just keep getting better even after watching it 3 times.
This feels like life. Moments of harmony before it all falls apart again. You know if you just keep going things will all sync up again. And the whole journey is beautiful. So, just enjoy it.
i love how you automated the reverb mix on the main plucky synth to fade it's transients out into the background when it's more out of time to just flip it back to dry instantly when it gets back on beat. Such a nice detail, so satisfying
This is INCREDIBLE. I've always seen polyrhythms like ProjectJDM's, and thought "These are really cool. Too bad they can't really be made into conventional music, because of their innate rhythmic inconsistency." But this showed me *THEY CAN.* I'm so happy 😁
El Estepario Sibieriano has several youtube shorts where he is playing 5 different rhythms at the same time on the set. He makes polyrhythms look easy.
Didn't know that I like polyrhythms that much though.
