    Just got round to starting my bike for the first time since doing the brush replacement as you’ve taught me to do via this video. And it started up beautifully! So stoked! Saved me over $150 buying a brand new starter motor. It sounds so healthy when it starts now and no need to tap the starter. Very pleased and thanks again spicy for making these tutorials.

      I used my air compressor gun and electrical contact cleaner to clean out my starter motor. Was such an easy job I really appreciate your tutorial.

    I enjoyed watching this video as I have a 2007 DRZ400SM. No starter problems as of yet with mine, but I still enjoy seeing them worked on. The only part of the video that I would change is that you did not test the starter motor. For me personally I always test a starter motor (and alternators) on the bench before I go through the trouble of the installation. I learned that lesson the hard way a couple of time with rebuild/re-manufactured starters and alternators.

    Thank you so much!!!!! You have saved my life getting to and from work! I just spent 500 dollars on a kickstart just to find I can use the decompression lever and I can't kickstart it -__- so thanks so damn much defiantly giving a like and subscribe

    Spicy just a tip, next time you remove your exhaust header try a piece of header wrap to fill the void gap, wrap two or three times if necessary and presto heat resistant and will never fail. It will probably be more quiet as well. Good vid btw. Header wrap is usually expensive by the roll, try a shop to see if you could get 6 inches or so to save money.

    for me, the hardest part was getting my ProCircuit exhaust off... was SUPER hard to get it to come off, but wen back together SUPER easy.
    Turned out NOT to be my brushes. Turned out to be my clutch switch (or the wear/slop in the clutch perch??)

    Hey man, so my brush holder set arrived today. It’s missing the bolt that holds the brush holder in place and it’s missing the magnet for A port which attaches to the bolt. Is this a seperate part that I need to Order or should it have come with the brush holder set? Thanks in advance man.

    • @spicy110
      @spicy110  4 роки тому

      Are we talking the same bike? I'm struggling to think what this magnet is. However can you not just swap over the existing parts? The only thing that really matters in the bushes if they are worn out.

    • @Trenscendent
      @Trenscendent 4 роки тому

      spicy110 sorry I meant carbon. It’s fine I’ve found out that it’s a separate part I need to order. I’m talking about the bolt that the cable connects to to power the starter. My brush holder kit did not come with that bolt or the carbon block attached to it that is spring loaded and contacts the commutator.

    Instead of filling the gap, make two small cuts on the end pipe so when you clamp it, it has some movement to clamp down, I've seen it on stock car exhausts so it might work here? Idk I wouldn't take my word for it 😂

    • @spicy110

      Hahaha 😆👍 yep doubling up. Normally you can just get a round gasket if it's a big difference but 1-1.5mm you can just use sealant...unless it is this bike and it will just blow all that crap out haha.

      @@spicy110 idk how much they are but it might also help with metal works, I've seen tools the can make the end of a pipe slightly wider, maybe that's possible with the front piece? Have no idea 😂

      @@spicy110 So next time your Mums Washing Machine stops spinning you will be able to fix it for her cheap😊👍about £7 for a set of Brushes (not to be confused with paint Brushes, sweeping Brushes or Bush,s🤣😂) beats paying to replace a perfectly good motor..It's A lot less fiddly than most modern vehicle design's..
      Well done Spicy teaching everyone how to fix it yourself.👍👍

    In my job I repair motors for electric power steering pumps, and the armature dust that comes out some of those is insane. I have to wear a respirator while I'm pulling them apart and blowing out the carbon because it's carcinogenic, and doesn't taste particularly nice... Haha. The old mini cooper pumps are the worst culprits by far.

    Ktm 390s have a dent fitted from factory so it fits in the frame. I think the 125/200s have a smaller diameter exhaust so the dent isnt needed

    So I changed the brushes on my quad bike. Very similar deal to what you did.
    Now my starter motor won't work at all despite power getting through. All I get is a click from the solenoid which was working before I changed the brushes.
    Any idea what it could be?

    As someone said earlier you should have cleaned the commutator segments, I know that the new brushes will probably clean it up but you can also check for any wear and arcing damage, just a belt and braces thing when rebuilding motors etc....
