I just wanted to give some additional context here as I didn't want to make the intro too long before it went into the breakdown. Arthur and I started BJJ under the same affiliation but different gyms. When I was a White Belt and just getting into BJJ, there was so much buzz about Arthur. One night, myself and others from my gym made the drive out to roll at Arthur's gym and I remember being so excited to roll with someone as high level as he was. He completely kicked my ass and it was inspiring to see how good someone could be at BJJ, and how a Canadian could have such great international success if they put in the work. It made me want to take BJJ even more seriously. I would see him at tournaments just destroying everyone. The first tournament I won gold in as a White Belt, I watched Arthur dominate his way to double gold as a purple belt. I rolled with him again when I was a blue belt and he was very complimentary of my skills, which meant the world to me. Even though again, he completely kicked my ass. His kind words gave me confidence and I'll never forget the feeling that gave me. I have tremendous respect for Arthurs skills, how he carries himself, and his competition success. I have a large weight advantage on him, especially now as I'm weighing about 200lbs. So if it appears that I got the better of the roll, understand that size played a big factor. Definitely subscribe to his UA-cam channel if you haven't yet!
More, more, more! I would rather watch hours of high level black belts rolling with each other than watch IBJJF matches, I think you can learn more from people expressing their jiu jitsu in a roll rather than a match where there is naturally a tendency not to take risks.
Oh, Jordan had to tell you I worked on that thing you sent that was really good. The other video you did where you’re having guys try to see if they can go from one side to the other in Crossbody and it was really good and I was having them do it a little bit different. I didn’t really look at it all the way, but I was having them go either over the legs or mount and then go to the other side or go around them from the front. The other guy could catch them in half guard they could catch them as full guardand if they did, they win and they are the ones they’re gonna be doing it and the other guy has to push-ups if they pass and they go to the other side every time they do that they have to do a push-up for every time and I did three minutes matches, so it was really fun
Nice video! I like the slower speed for the analyses. I get this feeling that this is really fast and it’s making me feel like you might wreck me more in the Gi than you did in noGi 😂😂
I love your videos Jordan, and learn a lot from your analysis. When you said at 4:25 that only Bernardo Faria passed your guard on UA-cam - that made me wonder if that's for lack of trying. It would be awesome to see you roll with more black belts that are bigger or better than you.
I film rolls with the best guys I can. Which generally means those who visit my gym. Its happened 3 times now where I've been told I can't post the roll online, after it was filmed. From good guys. So now I don't go out of my way as I don't want to waste time/money. Anyone that comes to my gym or if I'm traveling, I'm happy to film a roll with on camera 🙂
@@JordanTeachesJiujitsuyou got bit of an ego on you pal from seeing some of your videos. You’re a hobbyist black belt, there are many coloured competitors that would blitz you and you would never post those videos on your channel and you know it
Bernardo faria is a BJJ Boogeyman that's why he was the only one to pass your guard. And Arthur is a pretty good black belt. He almost pass your guard. Btw is he indian, bc I heard there's a big indian community in Toronto and I would like to visit Toronto someday since I was at Rochester NY a month a go.
I'm working on an instructional right now on rolling back attacks. It'll be included. It's like a rolling back attack but you roll them. So I still put it in that category lol
Interesting scientific roll. May I ask: at 0:48, you're pulling him toward you, as he enters a half. I don't often see instructional on that situation. Lot of grapplers (lower belts) get sucked in and sweep. Arthur wisely defended. Can you give me a video on what/how to do when the bottom guy pulls you toward him. My only solution is to take sideway and get in a guard passing mode, but its tough.
Hey I had a question about after you pass guard what would be the best way to remove the frames to get into side control often, I would be able to get to guard but would have to forcedly try to step over to mount without side control which doesn't work on more skilled opponents. Also wondering what would be a good sweep for bigger guys
I messaged Craig on instagram but no response lol. I know I don't deserve a spot as I'm not an active competitor, but if given the opportunity I would do everything I can to win the million and have full belief I can get the job done.
I gas way quicker in the Gi too lol. Doesn't help either that I so rarely train Gi now. It was nice to make the Gi fans happy with this one though haha
@@JordanTeachesJiujitsu Do you have any tips to reconcile the mats with the gym? At least for me it’s very hard to do both the way I would like to, and most of the times i end up choosing the one that is the most important at the moment…
Why don't BJJ folks ever use wrist locks, especially in the Gi? They're wide open and very painful, when done correctly. Just think of it as an "ankle lock" on the arm. Your entire body vs. a single, small joint is the ultimate mismatch you should be looking for.
We do but they just arnt allowed at most lower belt competitions at my academy there's multiple law enforcement guys and the coach is an mp in the national guard and they all love wrist locks the main issue with them tho is when you try to get a grip on the wrist there's so much sweat that it just slips right out so yes we use wrist locks but they just arnt viable against other bjj athletes
Agreed. A couple grapplers in my gym spam wrist locks constantly, and I think they're great for setting up additional sweeps and attacks, but if you recognize one coming on, most experienced grapplers can safely arm pummel to clear their hand from the attack. There are a couple slick setups with very secure sleeve grips that may be the exception to that rule, but again, early defense can negate the submission danger @@papabunny9594
