Thanks for watching JIU JITSU HIGHLIGHTS: Can A 47 Year Old Black Belt Win? | 20 Minutes of BJJ Rolling/Grappling
The efficiency is unreal!
That's how multi-degree black belts should roll (2nd-3rd dan and above). Control, efficiency, timing etc.
@@qwertyuiop2895 WE DONT HAVE DANs
He’s so smooth..it’s awesome to watch
Totally! The vast mat time just to learn how to trim all unnecessary time/action is sublime.
@@ThaSilentOne420 We have a Dan at our gym. I'm sure there's others out there. One of my good friends from high school is named Dan.
Love watching ROY roll so fluid so elegant
The flow is just.. wow!
To the blue belt, loved the Chewy Rash guard. Rick always a pleasure to see him rolling. Roy just makes it look effortless. the only thing that visibly changed was the length of time it took to get a sub but the ending was never really in doubt. The smoothness, fluidity, and control was on point as always.
As an ant-wrestler based in Iowa, I have to say, Wisconsinites are tough people to roll with!
Awesome! 👍🏻
Smooth
Damn, Roy's flow is astounding. That said, neither the brown or blue belts know how to move. They are giving up quite a size advantage though
Dang, I wish I could have a feel
Enjoyed the brown belt’s laugh - the sound of a man realizing that none of their s#*% is going to work!!!! It will be my own laugh as I head to class tonight. Mr Roy, make a video on what to do when that happens haha.
To the victims - You fought bravely soldiers!!! And Remember, a good death is it’s own reward!!!!
why don't you let the lower belts work rather than smash them non stop?
Of course lol. 47 is young. More like will a 67 year old win
Love how Roy's energy is so efficient and smooth and how Roy keeps it fun and playful. Even though his skill is so advanced, any student can feel safe training with him. To me, this is the way of a master teacher.
Wonderfull rolls 🙏
When Bruce Lee said, “Be like water,” he actually meant to say, “Be like Roy Dean”!
You know it's damn good jiu jitsu when a 20 min video takes you 60 min to watch.
so smooth man.. when I think of people I want to base my game around roy dean is certainly at the top of the list. would love to train with you one day🙏
100% - Roy Dean is Dr. Smoooooth
I hope one day my Jiu Jitsu will be half as smooth as yours. Never wasting energy forcing something, always having an answer for a reaction, it’s beautiful Jiu Jitsu at its finest.
Love the technical fluidity ❤
So freakin graceful, yet deadly skills…🤨🤙🏾
That sweep at 13:21 is art
Jiu Jitsu is art
Classy, calm and collected. This is magnificent bjj, so much to learn from the attitude. Respect,
A solid display of what BJJ is supposed to look like. Smooth, technical, and overwhelmingly effective.
"talking smack" while rolling. such a black belt thing to do tho': "oooohhh!!", "come on!" (like to a puppy jumping off the bed) haha
So smooth, the top pressure is insane. It looks like he's not even trying but you can see his rolling partner is gassed out from the pressure of his movements and pinning.
He’s literally the best of the best
Watched this already 4 times. Nothing is wasted, as always love your jiu jitsu!
I do like your style. I'd love to roll you one day. If you're ever in germany, let us know here, I'd love to attend a seminar. And ofc. we could also host you for a seminar. Roll on (y)
It is actually quite nice to see some playful bjj videos on this channel - as a 40-year-old man myself 😉
I know, right??!!! 40 myself. White belt, no stripes. Every session is leaving me battered. I'm getting scared of the sessions and have to mentally prep myself. Now that I am seeing this video, I believe i'm doing something wrong.
@@sardalamit "Mentally", most important thing is not to quit. Just keep going, that's really it (Top Secret).
Technically, chill out, don't muscle things, it's not arm-wrestling. Move your hips a lot, always hook opponent with legs/feet, even if you don't know what you're doing, plus hip-escape and/or bridge. Learn how to apply basics (quality VS quantity of techniques), of course it will be escapes/defenses mostly. Long story short this is a way to transition from white to blue belt. Then it's more complicated...
@@sardalamit my advice to you… get tapped out as much as possible and learn from every training partner. Train the bar positions and learn from the positions, how to develop timing and perfect the escapes even though you’re getting tapped out multiple times. You learn more from tapping than going the whole round and bring the guy that didn’t get tapped but never improved by going for stuff. Always have a game plan for every session. 1 day work your kimuras from side control. The next day put yourself in triangle choked so you perfect the escape.
I’ve been training for 23 years now and got my black belt in 7yrs.
@@sardalamit I found that some people take this sport too seriously and forget about having a good laugh with their training partner. Learning, fun and grind are all important factors in any sport, I don't believe BJJ is any different.
Hi sensei 🙏 all your vidéos are great… perfect and so instructive
Thanks a lot and i Hope i ´ ll coming to see you a day

What I love with Professor Dean is his beautiful style of movement, deadly smooth. It's like he said years ago. - You have to know where you are going. And like all masters of the art, they know the pathways of every move before you are even at that specific move. 🥋
I appreciate you giving top position to the young brown belt. Realizing he might be a little tired as we have all been there but you know I take that as a sign of respect the goal is not to beat each other up the objective is to make each other better.
Constant flow, pressure, smoothness and oh always prevailing signs of submissions incoming. Always amazed by the quality of these rolls. Yeah that old man definitely got it .. 😊
Pressure, control, efficiency and basic techniques done to a very high level. Nice to watch
Ifnn no I found a magic lamp. One of my three wishes would be train with Roy for rest of my life. Not just gaining knowledge about his craft as seen here. But gaining his wisdom and outlook on life. It would be life changing
Another great video Mr. Dean!
Sick, Roy! You're in synchrony with the matrix! @07:38 when you stop his lateral movement with your foot behind his head was 🤯 !!!!!!
I liked the detail of the standing guard pass. Hold on to the two collars of the kimono. When your opponent opens your guard to sweep, you hold only one collar of the kimono and with the other leg and arm you go through the guard.
Well, one of the big problems that I think Roy’s doing a great job. I first need to say that but the students they don’t seem to be really framing up really well. They don’t seem to be doing that because their backs just flat on the ground and they’re not really moving their hips not really doing that it’s like a little bit. He’s just really skilled and he’s so long is like just come up is just like this gigantic thing that just rolling around there, but I think the biggest thing is if people give it a lot more space moving a lot more when he would step over slide underneath or move differently. People would have a lot more of a fun role. I mean Roy amazing. I like that a cross choke for the guy tried to block it with his hand, but the thing was I don’t understand why I didn’t try to take it off and that phone home kind of thing was a good idea but not a good idea which is also you can do wrist locks when they do that
Smooth, cerebral, efficient . . that's just some beautiful jiu-jitsu.
roy wanted you to not be wearing a chew jitsu rash guard this is why he tapped u so much :D
Any roy movement is functional, he doesn't scatter anything!
You were flowing 🎯🏆🎶 the title is total clickbait. lol
For blue belt maybe need to increase posture in Roys guard. Maybe look at shovel pass when on back and hardcore bridge. I also like to work on collar ties on opponents neck to break his posture. Great video
These guys are trying to use technique, while Roy is just flowing.
Very strange that the blue belt would start the fight flat on his back against a black belt.
Love this style of content!
Lovely flow my good man👍
Awesome rolls, so much to learn ! That triangle setup at 16:00 was a jedi move
8:14 was nice. Thought he was getting to HQ.
The real question is, how sore were you lol?
Dang, Roy Dean is only 2 years older than me and 10000 times better. I love his use of wrist locks.
The black strips are interesting too.
What do they mean? What is the significance of the black stripes versus the white stripes?
@@EliteForceLHPthat is what I was asking....
This is a blue belt, correct?
Set ups are ridiculous!
absolute legend !
Yes.
You’re my Hero ❤ Dean
Making it look easy
How old is Rick?
Fascinating to watch.
When I saw the title I thought - can a lower belt ever win against a black belt of any age - very, very rarely! Plus as someone in my early 40s I wish people would stop thinking of the 40s as old. Unless you have wrecked your body / not cared for it over time there's no reason to feel old in your 40s. Sure life can get on top of you making both of those things more likely but there are a LOT of very fit people in there 40s out there. Just look at any ammatuer endurance fun run - 15 km plus. Any event with over 300 entrants will have a good number of senior citizens there making a lot of the younguns look pathetic.
Everytime I watch black belt sparring my mind can't process at all. The voice inside me is screaming "How??" "How??" "How??" It's feels so unreal to me. How effortlessly he can transition, passing the guard while I have to do cardio breakdance just to pass a guard. I always ask myself am I not fast enough? Does flexibility is a big matter in BJJ even though I can't even reach my toe when doing warm up split? My stamina not good enough? I'm a 40 year old one stripe white belt by the way.
It comes with time on the mats. I'm 2 months from 40 and just received my fourth stripe on my white belt.
Flexibility is important.
Master at work here
Very Technique ♥
Why don't you guys begin in the stand-up? Take-down > pass > pin > sub.
BJJ guys know stand-up?
I hate to say it, but that brown belt really is not trying. He lets things happen then tries too late to defend it.
I know Roy is good but a brown belt should do better
Beautiful flow
More of this
Choke@ 4:27?
I really enjoy your videos!!!! thx!!! Regards from Chile!
Who here wants to see the professor go against Jordan or Chewy. This roll would be epic.
The sinking/suffocating top-down pressure exerted by black belts is beautiful to watch.
Damn!
I think Roy wanted to smile at the 11:42 mark.
your jujitsu is beautiful to watch, very technical seems effortless
15:53 is so smooth. Isolating the left arm to threaten the sweep, then throwin up the triangle. Phewww
Beautiful jiu jitsu!
It would be cool to see some videos against very aggressive/mobile opponents. Pick up some insight on how to slow guys like that down.
Love that Stepover Choke - I use that with the collar but love how you used the lapel….
Roy, you made that brown belt look like a blue belt. GJ Roy!
That backstep to mount from reverse knee on belly in the first round was so smooth.
Roy vs Mike Ehrmantrout was awesome
You still got it Roy!
Superb efficient effective … respect
Omg 😱 I’m speechless professor 🙏🙏
Roy Dean is an extremely underrated of the purest expression "gentle art" called BJJ, so smooth, strategic, skilled, intelligent, never hurting or bullying his sparring partner, mentally strong, totally in full control a one of the few who i call "silent killers" never gas out because of his perfect breathe control, humble all positive, and the few times he got tapped by lower ranks he never freaks out or be frustrated, a real gentleman who says "thank you" to a blue belt he obviously oversubmitted, congratulations to the gentleman with the blue belt too, very good performance for his rank and his age, i m a brown belt under Professor Ari Galo of Carlson Gracie Rio, a real alien fallen from the sky, and i would never change him for no other coach, if it was not like that would be a honor to be a Roy Dean student, maybe the fact of beeing a super black belt in aikido and judo helped him a lot
Roy moves like a Mamba snake. So smooth. #Goals
The Sensei still got it. Great rolls!
nice rolls
So fun to watch
Let’s see some nogi rolls, Roy.
Why
On my way😳
Bravo!!
Oss! ☀️
Beautiful display of jiujitsu Professor Roy! I’ve been following you since the beginning of my jiujitsu journey almost 10 years ago! Would love to meet and train with you one day. Your one of my main influences that I model my game around.
i love you mr roy
I'm testing with Roy Harris this weekend for black belt any words of wisdom @roydean
Positioning is key. Pace yourself. Don’t give up!
@@roydean Thank you!
@@roydean I passed sir! What an amazing memory!!
