I'm a truck driver make my coffee everyday with one of these
I’m a truck driver and I found it very useful when I got a truck that didn’t have an inverter and also when the inverter I had my truck broke down
I’m in ltl and I just got a msr wind burner. Very similar and great for warm food and drinks.
The sound differences between the propane and the isobutane flames were due to two factors: One, the pressure differential-- propane has a much higher pressure, which is why you don't see it used in pocket lighters; and two, the position of the microphone relative to the cooking units. Because of its higher vapor pressure, propane will always cook faster. The trade-off is weight; isobutane containers are not as heavy and have a smaller form factor, better for infrequent camping use. But for long-term use, if you have the means to carry them, propane canisters are always best.
I cooked with one of these daily. Great product. Lasted 2 years daily use in a 18 wheeler. After continuous use the jet part burns out as the grate falls apart. Great value, cooks quick.
Just found one of these tonight in clearance for $25!! We snagged it. It will be our daytrip or car camping kit.
I just found the LAST 1 at my local Wal-Mart for $35. Clearance...
Camp Chef makes a heat diffuser for fry pans. Makes it more versatile.
Lucky!!!
Dang
That's a hella of a deal I just saw one at Walmart for $74 lol 😆
We bought the Stryker 150 (propane only) a couple of years ago from Costco. It super fast at boiling water for pour over coffee. We also got a small day pack that we keep the coffee grounds, propane canister, the stove, a couple of mugs, and other items. Our coffee "kit" is stored near the tailgate of our Jeep so its ready to go.
I did a little research into fuel canisters. An ISO Pro canister is about 20% Propane and 80% ISO Butane. Propane remains a gas at a lower temperature than the Butane. This allows you to light the stove in colder temperatures. However if you can't warm up your fuel the Propane will burn off and the stove will go out. If you try to put 220 gr of Propane in a thin wall canister like the MSR or Coleman canister the seams would burst . That is why the 1 pound Propane canister is made of thicker steel. By the way, jet biol makes a 1 l pot and a 1.8 l pot if you need more volume. The nice thing about Jetboil is that they make many accessories for their stoves.
I have used this for 3 years now and it still is going strong. I bought because I was visiting the Carson iceberg wilderness there was a fire ban. Bought in bishop California and have used it as my regular rig ever since. Rock solid and I have no complaints.
I picked one of these up a while back & I love it, I use it all the time for day hikes & solo car camping. There's also a pot adapter with simmer plate that fits on it allowing you to use a small pan or skillet & the simmer plate does a really good job of spreading the heat out.
Had mine for 3 years and it hasn't failed me yet. This exact one! Got it on amazon
I love my Stryker. I’ve had it for about a month. Like you I stumbled on it my local Walmart. I wanted the jet boil but I couldn’t afford it. This was in my budget. It’s boils water in seemingly seconds.
Excellent review! Found 2 for immediate pickup in Bossier City! Now they have 1 left! Thanks, Doc!
great tidbits with this video about the difference in canisters. I bought this thing due to multifuel option. glad I dit now! thanks for the video!
I subscribed just cause you called it the “Ding Dong Bell 🔔” 😂 😂 thousands of videos and nobody else ever called it that....keep doing it
I got this around Black Friday on Amazon for $30, it’s the size of the bigger jetboil, so really different applications than a lightweight setup (this one boils for two). But great value!
Thanks for the education. Will make a great gift for weekend or seasonal campers.
Having the Versatility of using Propane is One of the reasons I bought the “Actual”, Trangia gas stove. Great Review Ernie,,!!!!!
Joshua
Great video!
I just got one the other day and I love it. I’ve had a Jetboil since they first came out but, the deal maker for me with the Stryker is the multi fuel option. I also purchased the Camp Chef Mountain Series Stryker Pot Support Adapter so I can use any pot or skillet.
Mee too!!!!!
I carried a Jet boil stove with standard pot and the bigger pot on my '09 thru hike of the Appalachian Trail. Felt like I had the best stove of everyone else. Loved it, this one looks good too.
Wasn't there a politician who "hiked the Appalachian Trail," but that ended up meaning something else altogether?

I never wanted to backpack carrying a Jetboil unit as I thought they were too large and weighty. I do use mine overland camping. I use a rolled piece of aluminum as a wind protector; it came in a plastic tube and I added a BBQ lighter, an air bellows, pair of chop sticks and a long titanium spoon. Considering all that it's very lightweight. We recently experienced a 34-hour power outage and all of my camping equipment was a life saver including a Jackery 240, Mr. Buddy Heater, Coleman single burner and the Jetboil stoves. Our sleeping bags kept us super comfortable at night with the house interior temperature dropped to 38F. I will pick up one of these Camp Chef stoves when it's available at one of several Walmarts in our area.
thank you! great video! really appreciate you breaking down the particulars for us newbies! 👍☕👨🍳
I love it, grid down situation, duel fuel is a big pro, with the extraction adapter from larger propane tank to refill , it's a win win , for me, as always Ernie great 👍 review, I can always depend on you to bring the best 👌 review. Sincerely Rick from Mo and God bless you and your family 👪
@Shawn Patricio Dear Shawn, I thought you lived in Louisiana, What part of Mo are you from, I love your Content
Extraction adaptor. Do tell please.....I have searched the internet trying to figure this part out. No joy. Any help or direction to point me in please?
@@living4mylord On amazon, I just ordered a hamans outdoor gas refill adapter for filling butane canisters, this by itself isn't the answer, I'm still looking for the connections to refill with propane, I'll keep ya posted if I get it all located. I'm sure most of have common since enough propane will be perfectly safe to refill and use. I have friends that do welding on oil rigs and most that have been around a while always seem to use propane, completely different type of heat transfer, it heats the whole part where acetylene only heats at the point you are cutting. I think this is better for cooking but not for what they are doing. in their case they can just get the fuel anywhere or any day almost any time otherwise they wouldn't use propane for their purpose, availability is why. for cooking, my speculation is I think it'll work better. sorry, made this a little more long winded here than intended. I'll let ya know if I learn anything:)
@@dannynimmo3052 That's terrific Danny. Thanks! We are still working through all of that ourselves.
I carry one in my saddle bags on my motorcycle along with a handful of mountain house meals, it's great for weekend trips.
Me too... It fits my minimalistic needs
I picked one up and took home hoping my goto cowboy coffee pot use could be improved , filled with water and coffee and thinking it would take 5-6 minutes to start boiling NOPE it boiled over because the heat is intense. I Love the system just have to dial down the heat and this will be good. Thanks for the Heads up.
I like your extra work for sound details
Camp Chef actually makes some really good stuff for being a ‘Walmart’ brand.
I’ve heard countless people tell me their pellet grills are comparable (some say better) than a Traeger or GMG.
Camp Chef is not a Walmart brand.
Great review! April 2022 price: $135! Unbelievable!
My original Jetboil from my 2006 AT hike is still going strong - Bought a replacement parts kit to carry during my hike but have not had to use it to this day. This stryker stove looks like a cool option with the propane attachment.
Nice video. For my hiking I usually use light alcohol stoves, but I had an experience, a very cold and windy night in winter in the mountains, this kind of kit saved our chance of boiling water in the strong wind. I think in these conditions that kind of gas kit is the one to go.
The stove adapter itself is around $15. Which makes this a pretty good deal. Would love to see a boil tests between your top 2-3 favorite backpacking stoves and with isobutane vs propane.
Thinking about picking up the Soto Amicus and a propane adapter!
Love the channel!
My son bought a cook set at Sportsman's Warehouse that included two pots AND smaller cup all with handles. He also bought a Coleman multi-fuel camp stove. All together he spent about $40 bucks. ALL of this fit into the same small draw-string bag, including one fuel can. Most of his Scout friends had Jet Boils. On a river trip, he and I ate together while the other boy's dad had to wait. No difference in the speed of boiling water either.
I've really liked my Camp Chef stuff. Their pellet grills are great. I got the Stryker stove as a gift and have the one that does canisters and propane. Worked great for me camping out in Utah.
Like you said, this would be great for car camping. I took a Jetboil to Philmont with my son on a Boy Scout backing trip. It was big enough for a 12 people. We had 2 going some times, but high in the mountains the fuel for JetBoil took quite a while to boil water of course. I think that Camp Chef looks like it definitely will be a winner on car camping though and it boils up to 4 cups of water. That is awesome.
its been sold out at my local walmart for a while i check for it whenever i go, but i recieved some cabelas gift cards so i went and got a jetboil now so excited.
Okay, I was just sold when I saw that adapter. Wow, that's a nice feature.
Those adapters are available on eBay, i got one for $5.95
Nice video and great info. This would be at about the top price of my budget. I don't hike much anymore due to bad knees, but love to camp with the mini truck or motorcycle and to fish. This would be great for tea/coffee there. Thank you for the great info. I may put this on my Christmas list.
So glad you're back on. A little off topic here, but have you considered doing a Japan vs Australia vs Sweden vs US vs China alcohol and pressurized stove challenges? Each country has some great solutions and approaches to these systems.
Just picked one up at my local Walmart for $40 clearance.
I've never used a Jetboil, my regular stoves are an MSR Whisperlite International and a Primus Himalaya multi-fuel.
At this price I couldn't pass up giving it a try.
Use the smaller butane tank and it fits great. By the way caught mine on clearance for $35
Looks like a good piece of kit to add to my RV. Making coffee outside saves firing up the stove inside it, and steaming the place up.
Great review! Thanks for the info!
good ole tent camping would be great. Also, having it at a cabin.
Bravo!! I’ve owned the Stryker 100 (doesn’t come with the propane adapter) for awhile, and agree with you 100%. It is bulkier than a Jetboil, but a great value!
All you need to make a stryker 100 to a 200 is buy propane adaptor and the ones you buy are lighter and work better
have one of these and i love it, use it on mountain hikes, surprisingly wind resistant.
I still use my Peak One. It never fails. I used it while hiking the Long Trail. Back when I was a care taker on Camel's Hump in VT this stove saved a lot of packbackers from starving because their light weight apparatus failed.
I found one last week, (the last one on the shelf), for $40 and snagged it immediately.
Got mine for $64 at wally world yesterday. Last one on the shelf.
Great review. Can't believe how much faster the propane got the water boiling.
This is a cool kit, thanks for showing it. Might need to slide by the camping section at my local Wally to see if they got it 🤔
I just had a Jetboil Flash System delivered today. :) This Stryker system would be great for car camping. I just discovered your page today. Well done!!
I see you're in Louisiana. Our daughter and family are in Bossier City, Barksdale AFB. I plan to travel there again in the Spring and my son-in-law and I are planning to backpack. How close are you to Bossier City? That would be great if we could hook up.
I live in Virginia, near the Blue Ridge and hike and backpack quite a bit. These Virginia mountains are tough...... :)
I wasn’t aware of this stove system. Thanks for the review :-)
Super review. Thx for the info.
I have a stripped down version of this, the type that just fits above the fuel......I like this set up...a bit big, but not bad. Thanks for the heads up
That looks like a Jetboil/Reactor mashup
I love my Msr (windboiler) windburner. I’ve tried all the jetboil models fast but horrible in windy conditions. I tried many cheap copies of jetboil. Some actually are very good indeed! I now use my Msr windburner. Indoors or out in windy areas almost same boil times. Great video!!
I just saw this stove kit in my local Walmart and sportsman warehouse
The propane option makes for an attractive paddling stove option as well as for temps cold enough to require sleeping with your butane.
I've been mostly carrying a 1.3l titanium pot for years. It's nice to boil enough for a full Nalgene before bed or to have enough water for a meal and two cups of coffee. The difference in bulk between a half liter pot and a 1.3 liter pot is....well it's 0.8 liters.
Thanks for the heads up!
I have had the butane version for a long time and it is working 💪 great to this day.
Im glad this one accepts both fuel types. Its looks great and about 40% off the jetboil
I agree. Been looking for something like this. Glad he shared this.
I’m going to take an early guess (before watching) and say the iso-butane will boil water faster than propane. I’m assuming because the iso-butane is a slightly larger, heavier hydrocarbon with a slightly higher boiling point. So it should kick out a little more BTUs.
Assuming he let the burner completely cool off before using the propane so that the test started off evenly, I stand corrected and the propane was faster.
Another good vi, doc. Thanks!
Propane sound test. You rock!!!
This would be handy at a picnic with the family, I like the adapter and it would be nice to be able to have one of those around.
I think so too.
You can refill the small propane tanks from a bigger tank from your grill with an adapter.
I have a very similar kit which I purchased here in the UK last year for around £30, the OEX
Tacana Solo Stove set. I agree with your review, great cook kit for the money but a little big and heavy and even the slightest breeze can blow the flame out when first ignited, seems to improve once it's warmed up.
I have used the grasshopper stove for backpacking since 1974. IT runs on propane. When backpacking with 18 other people we had opportunities to really put our stoves to the test..Others had Sevea ,gas stove, isolated butane stoves, as well as a number of others. We were at 10,000 ft and above every night for 10 days.Every night we put our stoves to the test.. Our coldest night was 12 degrees. I LEFT MY GRASSHOPPER stove with propane out all night. It was very heavily encrusted with ice.It started up immediately. My 2 1 qt water water bottles were frozen solid. We all started breakfast at the same time.Mine boiled first, the gas stoves took 20 minutes just to prime.Iso butane took forever.I had breakfast cleaned up and packed my back pack and was ready to go before anyone else finished breakfast. Quickness of boil is only one factor.I would still go with my grasshopper.,than any of the others.I still have it and the propane is the best!.Quick, low maintainance reasonably fast and works just as well in high altitudes as low altitudes.I used the Grasshoppers stove with high adventure explorer Scouts, church groups,Eagles scouts, and with my own family's trips.Never failed once,.No problems ever.Lights up consistently every time in every situation.!!!
Yup propane is pretty much the best choice for high elevations and cold weather. In fact thats the whole reason they created ISO butane (butane mixed with propane). Because butane by itself wont exit the canister in cold or high elevations. But, man are those propane canisters heavy! Unless Im hiking more than 13 days I've never had a reason to use anything other than isobutane canisters. A single 7oz canister is enough fuel to boil 500ml of water twice daily for 13 days at 10k feet or higher in my experience. That being said I sleep with my canister to keep it warm and have my setup optimized to get warm from the burner flame. You must be living in the mountains or have a pack horse 🤔. To each their own, im glad to hear your grasshopper is still working after so long! Impressive.
Propane and butane have about the same heat energy, (BTU per Pound), but the propane has a higher pressure, so more came out. Propane can be used below zero degrees F, butane stops around freezing.
It would be nice if they made half pound propane bottles.
Thanks for the info,
Didn't know about
Butane not working below zero .
@@enzoh7763 Google, butane vs propane cold weather, And it will give you a brief explanation and links to more detailed info.
You can buy adapters to use the green propane bottles with camp stoves made for butane. www.amazon.com/Propane-Adapter-Converter-Cylinder-Canister/dp/B0891LP1J5/ref=sr_1_6?dchild=1&keywords=adapter+propane+butane&qid=1600706501&sr=8-6
I have the original jetboil, bought at REI for $60.00 over 12 years ago .IT IS A MUST
That's so funny, I did too! REI in NJ. Still using it sincewe lose power with every storm :/
I carried a Jet boil in my 09 thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail and felt like I had the best stove on the trail that year. I was able to get everything into the pot including the stand and adapter for the bigger pot.
Awesome review... I don’t care for Walmart camping gear but I do buy the small gas canisters for my Primus stove ... I will purchase this thou and mainly because of the adapter... thanks!
What a drag, just checked this on Amazon Canada and it’s the same cost (and up!) than the jet boil!
If it’s any consolation it seems really heavy to me
that stove, despite its weight, would be good for a larger group of 4 or more backpacking. meals and more hot water would be ready faster than with a stander jetboil. Also, for winter camping where you may have to melt snow for all your water, the larger size would be an advantage, depute the weight. You might want to take it out in the snow one winter to see how it performs in sub freezing temperatures.
Butane doesn't work in freezing weather
@@raymondclark1785 true, but there are other types of canister fuels that work better and can also be used in this stove. Butane does not vaporize well below freezing, and has a low heat output, so not the best for taking backpacking anyway. Good for car camping fair weather.
Awesome Review Video. Looks like a great product.
Cool set up. As an overhead lineman I've taken a jetboil all over the country with me for quick meals and such.
"Stryker, you're coming in too low!"
FAST
Shirley you jest🙂
The only difference I heard between isobutane and propane was that one said Yanny and other said Laurel.
Picked up one of these tonight. Can't wait to try it out. I love my old Coleman two burner stove but seeing how fast this boils water and the price I had to pull the trigger. Thanks for putting this out.
Right on!
@@PaleoHikerMD PLEASE SETTLE THIS : SOME SAY YES YOU CAN,OTHERS NOT....CAN YOU MAKE A STEW OR CAN OF SOUP IN THESE OR JUST WATER?
SOME CLAIM THE COATING ISNT FOOD SAFE(BUT IT IS WATER???)
This looks just like the Maple Fire set up I've just received from Amazon, though it did not come with the propane adapter. Nice little kit.
Good energency stove for power outages
I just got back from a fire that one of the guys I was with had this stove we had this a jet boil and a firebox nano they all worked great for heating food and making coffee this camp chef kept right up with the jet boil no problem and if it wasn’t for the lid and color you wouldn’t have noticed the difference I think for the money it’s a better option though out of them all I’m still sticking with my nano it just is so versatile you run out of fuel in your trangia no problem break up a couple sticks and your back to cooking but that’s just my personal preference
brambo4791 I agree, Nano and Trangia is all I need.
great video, I will def be buying one for that 4 cup capacity
Great review !! I have one for motorcycle camping, works awesome w an aeropress coffee maker ?YUM ?!!
Love mine I'm out by myself all the time in my line of work and it keeps me from having to eat cold food all the time
wow, this would be great on a service truck.
I just need that adapter.
I’m looking at it for Hotshot trucking. Making Coffee and warming up soul. I am liking it !
Indeed too big for backpacking but I might take it out on a winter hike or snowshoe trek. I'd already have my biggest pack and heaviest tent. Not counting ounces the way I do for 3 season outings.
Another great use for this: ski/snowboard tailgate. Resort lodge food and drink is wild expensive and lodges will be curtailed or even closed this season due to COVID. Take your mountain lunch break at your car and cook up a hot drink and meal real quick with the Stryker. Keep it in the car all winter for that purpose.
Did anyone else catch the 'I tell you Hwhat' when he was talking about the virtue of propane? @6:32
Propane and propane accessories, like this camp stove!
I was more intrested in the propain adapter than anything else 😅
🥃cheers🍻

I have one and it works great. The latch though. It broke the first day I got it when trying to get the fuel canister to fit inside. Made my own more efficient latch with a pin and an elastic hair tie. I can now fit even the coleman canister inside
I bought one a few months ago. Have used it a few times and its awesome. Efficient, Easy, Well Made and alot cheaper than the other guy...
I like taking a camp stove when we take trips to snow to make hot chocolate or coffee. This would be great for saving space
Jetboil cookers are overly expensive, Most copies are just as good.
I own the first version of the Jetboil and love it but that was too expensive also, for that reason I'd buy a copy in future too.
Over priced !!!!!!!’
Seems like a good deal! This seams perfect for family trips with smaller children...they are still learning to know early when they are hungry...kids tend to wait untill its too late and thier bellies are growling 😆
This would help get them fed faster forsure! Fingers crossed that they have have some at my local store. Thanks for sharing and great review friend!🤠🤙 Much love -TTO
Here at the end of Q3 2022, Walmart online shows this for 99.95. Seems to be fast and convenient to use in/with my mini camper. Thanks for the share.
EDIT - bought it directly from Camp Chef at $69.99 + NY State Shipping - it was "on special" from them, down from the MSRP of $149.99
I have some concerns aout this product. Is the insulated cover going to melt or catch fire? Are the plastic parts going to melt or break? I see most people liked it on Amazon but a few people had some issues with it. Use it for a while and then give an update on how well it holds up under actual work for several days.
Iuse these all the time in my msr pocket rocket
the insulated cover on my jetboil has started to melt, i dont understand why its designed that way
I've had my jetboil for years and never had a problem with the sleeve. Plus, you can push it up on the cup or even take it off.
@@m.pacheco1822 the purpose is to make it easy to handle while the contents are hot. I’ve taken it off and tried to reapply it while its hot without burning myself and failed. Its a tight fit. I prefer to leave it on but i will try folding it on itself to stop the melt
I work in the biz, and we do see these problems but they are almost always user error... ie someone left it on and then forgot about it. When used properly - meaning turn it off when the water boils - they're fine. My original JetBoil is well over ten years old and still works great. The piezo crapped out, of course, but I always carry a lighter.
Seen a good few clones of these I ended up getting one myself. Pretty decent!
Whilst someone just starting out equipping themselves may benefit from the Jetboil patent expiry allowing copies to be produced and sold cheaper, long term Jetboil owners are unlikely to ditch ther kit to but a copy of their original stove.
My Sol Ti and Sumo Ti, Minimo, Classic x3, 1.5l cookpot x3, frypan and pot supports continue to function as well as the day I bought them, quality lasts a long time.
Whether as part of a dedicated vehicle kit (Classic and 1.5l cookpot x3) or personal geat (Sol Ti and Sumo Ti, Minimo and frypan, I love the stuff, its beautifully made (especially the Ti gear) and great to use (especially the Ti gear and Minimo).
Were I a newcomer I would evaluate each of the stove types that met my requirements and choose on merit rather than price.
Reliability with one's stove is paramount.
I paid $39 for about the same cooker. Only propane. Walmart. And much more variable heat. Mine allows up to a 10 inch skillet, so much more flexible in cooking situations. Very stable! I'm an over the road trucker and this is my go to cooker
These type stoves are great for use on boats, because they a stable and the pot locks in so it can’t slide off.
I use my Jetboil to make coffee on my Kayak, this stove would work just as well.
I've used jetboil for year's and it has never failed me.
This is Fire-Maple (model Fixed Star X3) from Aliexpress for $55.
EXACTLY what i was thinking. 64 form Amazon
I paid £18 English from a website called planet X
Does not come with the propane adapter which will set you back another US $12.
Thank you for your show
Ordered a APG stove from Walmart online last year and have used it backpacking with the family on the Appalachian trail for 2 years now....works pretty good for $36.
