I store my green propane bottles in a small igloo cooler in my vehicle. I checked it out. 101degrees F. Outside. Inside the cooler in the truck 85 degrees inside the cooler. It also keeps them upright.
Great video, I have a few backpacking stoves that I use with propane instead of butane, The ones that have a hose instead of screwing the stove on top of the bottle can be a problem if you do not keep the 1 lb cylinder upright, Liquid propane can enter the lines and cause your stove to spit and sputter instead of burning cleanly...When using propane on a butane stove make sure that your propane tank stands upright so as to avoid this problem. It is also advisable to keep your flame as low as possible when using propane, otherwise the higher pressure will begin to freeze up at the burner orifice.
As a climber, I dismissed butane altogether for years and then just recently gave it try - which verified that I was 100% correct to have ignored it. However, that experience led to my "discovering" propane. Now THAT makes sense; the green bottles are not criminally heavy and propane boils at -40F so it's still got decent PSID at single digits. I use an MSR LOWDOWN with a Rocket; that thing rocks like an acetylene torch. It's also possible to put the bottle in an Outdoor Research 1L bottle parka for some warmth/padding. The Whisperlite is still my choice for survival-critical situations but otherwise, LPG is my new friend.
This 100% answered my question. Figured this would work for stoves, but wasn’t sure about the lantern. Thank you!
I have two of these. They pay for themselves almost immediately and from there on in it's all savings. Combine them with a refiller nozzle for your 20 lb propane tank to keep your one lb bottles full much more cheaply. Highly recommend especially for camper RV life. The 25 dollar Coleman Peak and the 10 dollar GasOne stoves, any other too, all work just fine on this setup. Buy these.
This adapter is essential! Those iso cans can be hard to find in smaller towns where the 1lb LP or map gas cans are readily available
I own one myself, great thing to have. Thanks for putting this out there, Good job.
Perfect solution I was looking for. Thanks for the review.
I just had two of these show up from Amazon and cannot wait to put them to use. I have a family that is in one of my touring vehicles that are having trouble finding isobutane canisters, but have lots of access to propane bottles. I’m gonna get one to them and keep one for myself.
I just bought one of these from your store. I like the idea of having options.
Thank you for all you do.
Great video, exactly the comparison I needed. Thanks!
Hey! Thanks for the video. I purchased one a minute ago and it will be real handy I can tell. Thanks!
Great overview. Never knew they made lanterns for the canisters! Now all you need to do is buy the adaptors to refill these tanks and really save you money. As long as you weigh them and are carefully it can be done very safely. Thanks!
Thanks for the video love that lantern 👍
Excellent video. Was exactly what I was looking for. Thank you for the info.
I have that adapter and I love it. Goes in and off smoothly
That is a nice adapter to have! Nice review George!
That is awesome, I had no idea they made something like that
Thanks so much. Very helpful and just gave me a longer lasting option. I'm using a Etekcity Portable Stove and didn't want to use the Isobutane option
Great video, always wondered if you could do both, now I know, thanks 🤙
Thanks, you just fixed one of my biggest problems when I go into the woods in winter and I can't make a fire.
Thanks for the video buddy just bought two of them yesterday after watching.....
Just clicked the link and bought one based on your recommendation. Thanks for the video.
Great video, awesome demo.
Great insight, thanks my friend!
Great demo.
Hey, thanks for your video, it was very useful!
Excellent product review. I put the camp stove adapter in my Amazon Cart and will purchased it as soon as I find a good price on something else I'm looking for. Thanks!
thank you so much for this informative video!
Going to get this. Great vid.
Yay info I've been looking for
Thanks so much , I was looking for this information..
Thank you for this. I was trying to see the easiest way to multi fuel.
Great work -- thank you!
I got the kovea adapter works real well with my pocket rocket. Good video.
Great info ...
Good test, thanks.
Good video! Thanks!
I shall look into this. Thanks
awesome tip, thanks
Just got one. Seems to work well
Well done thanks
Great video. Thank you.
I just purchased this little guy just for this purpose because I was running out of isobutane but had the propane tank. Then I got the propane refill adapter when it runs out.
Nice video👍 great review 👌
gotta put this on my wishlist
OMG You've made my day! Now part of my prepper gear will include a 20lb barbecue sized propane tank!
...and I've ordered one on Ali Express that cost less than $5!
Not sure it will fit in my pack...20 lbs ! Also, I am not sure this is the correct adapter for those threads.
@@billybastar4022 you can get an adapter/hose that will work. Many people use them to run propane heaters that are designed for the one pound tanks on the 20 pound tanks. Not sure how the larger tank will work with this setup but I will know in another day or two.
Thanks for the vid
I have been looking for this very item
Added that to a list! I've always been put off by the price of the mix canisters. Thanks!
Yeah.
I'm unimpressed by the cost of the little cans, too.
But there's options for refilling them, either from other isobutane camp stove canisters or from butane canisters, and the item in this video seems like it ought to be a good addition to the other tools for refilling them with a good butane/propane mix for all weather use.
To test it put the bottle in the freezer. 4 season butane mix still works after being in freezer over night.
I would try a Coleman lantern mantle, just to see of it performs better with the propane on the lantern options. Handy gadget.
That is cool I always wondered if you could get an adapter to use the propane
Been looking into this
That lp adapter comes with the Stryker 200 stove from Walmart in case you’re looking into buying a jet boil copy anyway
only thing about using the big canisters is the worry of tipping it over...I think coleman has a plate type thing that goes on the bottom of the canister to help
Definitely hand and for 15 bucks. Its worth it. Better to have and not need it, then need it and not have it. Thx for sharing.
Another Option for Use: Cache at your Bugout Location or Hunting/Vacation Cabin. Or for a Blackout/Grid Down and you're stuck in an Apartment Building. After all, those one pounders are a LOT easier to Find and Store than Isobutane. Thanks for the Video and Take Care.
If your caching, go for the 20lb propane bottles or higher. They are built much better and can be refilled at many places.
Trangia has a propane fire that you can put in fire box stove. You can cook dang near any thing in there. I'm going to use reusable 5 lb propane tank compair to throw away 1 lb tanks. Good video.
Thank u.
Remember to put the adapter on the stove first before the propane tank ! twig stove is a nice back up .
no need, I put the adapter on first every time, it has a seal and won't leak dude
I have both of the adapters the one that you go from the mixture to the propane units and then from propane fuel canisters to mixed stoves .
And on your Lantern it might be the mantle used the proper mantel for propane
It’s probably the orifice in the lantern assembly. They use different sizes for different fuel types.
Omg that adaptor to a 20lb propane adaptor and you're set lol
Good information, thank you! Like added
Glad it was helpful!
iridium you helped bc i thought something would explode swapping..
Cool, thxs, say do you have a link to your small gas lantern?
It will work with that little mantle-less gas lantern/candle thing you tested in a previous video which is awesome. Burns a very very long time on a pound of propane!
My math says at the spec'd 6g/h rate the little gas candle should run nearly 12 days straight (285 hours) on 1# of propane.
@@DougKremer is that 6g/hr rate running it at max flame/open all the way?
@@DougKremer also, a pound is 454 grams, so 6g/hr would be more like 75hours (but still pretty impressive , over three days non stop!).
Don’t know, it’s the rate mentioned.
Thanks for the info. Have you encountered any stoves melting?
Google shows titanium has higher melting point than steel. Thanks
there is also an adaptor for bayonet fitting gas cans to screw thread, the type of cans for the "table top" stoves only really suitable for remote canister type burners
Tell me more
@@BikePackingPleb I'm sorry I don't know how to do a link especially within you tube comments and it depends which country you are in, but, in UK you can go to either Ebay or Amazon type in Converter for Camping Gas Cartridge and their systems will do the rest plenty of explanatory photos Ebay may be cheaper but check location of seller they are all made in China anyway if you're not in UK I'm sure you can find a listing at your local area
The burner on the Coleman Peak-1 is designed to produce a "diffused flame pattern" for even cooking/simmering, as opposed to the "concentrated flame pattern" of the MSR "pocket rocket" style burners that are geared toward boiling water.
Exactly! Besides I'm not going to make a big meal in the camping, I'm just going to heat up, not cook, for that I'd better stay at home and make a big stew.😋
sweet i just orderd a soto windmaster and was wondering if i could do this so i only have to bring propan and us for both buddy heater and soto instead of needing both fuels
Thanks for sharing, you scared with the lantern (I JUST bought one that says it works with either IsoButane or propane.) I noticed the adapter for propane comes with instructions that mentions increasing or decreasing pressure through it by turning a set screw (most of the little butane/propane adapters seem to have an adjustment screw on one side or the other.) Maybe this helps.
I also have another valve to fill green bottles from white BBQ tanks. I win.
need one so i can have my other stove as back up
If you don't have any more cold days you could do a winter simulation and put your propane in your freezer for 3 days and try it like that
Not a bad idea, perhaps that will be my Monday vid.
I buried my canisters half way into the ground to protect from freezing and stability so my soucepan does not fall off.
Went to the National Training Center in FT Irwin and at their PX they were completely sold out of the butane for my pocket rocket, but they had all the propane you couldve ever needed. Man, i wouldve killed for one of those adapters while i was there
When I was younger pocket rocket meant something else. lol :)
I wonder if it works for the MSR Pocket Rocket, I will be trying it out, thanks you !
Where did you get that little lantern? Baddass! Great vid!
Right here on Amazon amzn.to/2Hdeclk Its a nice little lantern and very bright for its size
Which remote canister stove that uses propane do you like?
Have you adapted the 20 lb. propane tank to this adapter yet...?
Just use an MSR WhisperLite with the international wick. runs on any liquid that burns. Its silly to be limited to canisters to start with.
Have you seen any freeze up issues when using propane. I used the same adapter on foldable Lixada camping stove and the line that runs from the canister to the stove kept freezing up when using propane. The stove would stop working until I thawed out the line. For any prolonged cooking the propane canister was effectively useless because of that.
then there is the adapters you can get at Walmart for reloading the smaller propane cans from larger grill units
Yeah I have one, Never used it, might be an idea for another vid, I know some people say not to do it but I got it for emergency use.
@@Iridium242 Out of the dozen or so cans I've done only one has ever leaked over the last several years. At home depot and Walmart there are refillable 1lb propane canisters made by Flame King they're selling now
Wow so they are made to be refilled? I will check them out.
@@Iridium242 Yes, they've been out for some months now, if not a year.
Happy Camping,

@@hallard069about the one cartridge that leaked.Did it leak straight away or in your bag?
On the Peak One, the hissing noise is intsant when i open the valve with the short canisters. The tall one, wide open and nothing. I lit it anyway and had a small flame. It seemed like it had to prime or something. I thought i had empty canisters. At 65°, it just seemed odd.
I have 2 of the coleman burner and they stopped working after a few week..clogged up ? How you un clogg or clean the inside to see if it start working please?
Do they sell those adapters in Walmart? Thank you!
For all of my camp cooking needs, I use the Coleman 1 lbs propane bottles. Issue I have is once I disconnect the bottle from my coleman dual burner, or my small cook top like the ones in this video, gas is still leaking out of the bottle. Any caps available, so I can use the bottles more than once? Any help is appreciated.
Can you fill the small isobutane canisters with the propane 1lb Bottles
Will this adapter work on the Eureka SPRK Butane grill?
Can you use this adapter with a camping space heater?
Do you have a rough idea how many boils you can get with the pocket stove, the adapter and the propane tank?
Maybe like 4 times more than iso butane?
Which fuel type/ canister would you recommend to stay in the vehicle year around? I live in Vermont and I try to keep these in are cars year around.
how do you adapt a 230G isobutane to a 8.8oz butane so my mini stove will run longer?
How well does this work with a remote canister stove?
How well does it work with the MSR pocket rocket?
Can this be used with a jet boil?
Can you reverse that from butane to Propane ? Thanks!
do they have it at wally?
