I’ve been a drummer for 26 years, didn’t miss a day of practice for the first 6 years. Played constantly when I was young. Started a family and it took a back seat. Well my kids are now both and school. Time to dust off the kit and get practicing. Thanks for the inspiration !!!

it's hard to explain to non-drummers how hard it is to stay on time with a galloping beat like that but Estepario does it flawlessly for like 6 straight minutes here. insanity.

I'm 60 years old and have been playing drums since I was about 12. I've never heard that so crisp and clear. I have not really learned that song very well and tried many of times to play it and not sucseed. I thank you for sharing your tallent and am going to make an attemp to learn it with the help of your vid. thanks again.

Alex Van Halen is sorely under appreciated. As good as Edward was on the guitar, Alex is/was equally as good musicianship wise on the drums. I really appreciate you covering this incredible song for us. Great job sir.

The best part of this performance, which is saying a lot in such a great performance, is how he knows not to speak on the solo and just support it so it can shine. This guy could play for ANYONE.
Underrated comment. He’s here to push the limits of the instrument, but as you stated, knows how to pull back and could for ‘sure’ sit behind any band, any style on the planet and be juuuuuust fine. 🤙🏻

You should hear the song they plagiarized for this. Same beat, similar guitar, very similar intro and song arrangement. Its played in one of their documentaries which focuses on this song. It's an old song nobody has ever heard.
Agreed! However this is the first time I hear something from Estepario that it's not quite there, feels a bit stiff... I guess that says a lot about how brilliant Alex is! Estepario chops are amazing but Alex is the king of swing! Really hard to get the right feel

This drum beat never fails to completely stump me man, the swing feel on the ride landing on the downbeat of 1 makes this soooooo tricky, and you've completely knocked it out of the park

Gotta say I am loving the restraint lately on the bass pedals. Some of the past videos were too much pedal, this one is a chefs kiss!
The bass pedals are the main signature of this song. I think that changing that would not work very well for a cover video

Drummers will especially appreciate this. The majority of videos I see, I think "a few hours and a few days, I can play that." I really enjoy seeing drummers play things that I just cannot. Cool for anyone to see, if you've played you can really understand the ability required.

You simply can't compare this music with today's chart music. Spotify songs only with 2-3 minutes. In those older kinds of songs with 4-5 minutes and different segments, you really can engulf yourself in the music, it is kind of meditative, and you forget your surroundings for a couple of minutes, which is awesome.
Songs like this still exist, you just have to actually look for them instead of having them handed to you. There was just as much trash back then as there is now, but all the junk gets forgotten.
Wait until you hear the most streamed songs where I live... Or let's say in latin America as a whole. That's definitely worse and a pain to the ears

As a drummer for over 30 years with a successful family business, raising a big family, I had to put drums last on my list. No regrets, I still have my old Blackchrome Slingerlands in the basement. Time to get back with lessons and training with the mysterious El Estepario. He single handedly made drums a huge inspiration for beginners and old timers like myself. Alex Van Halen blew our minds with Live without a net. His drum solo was insane. So many great drummers from the past and Now Here comes El Esteparios!
You are the best drummer I have seen.and I've seen many.
I’ve been a metalhead for over 35 years, and I suck at guitar! Why Do I suck at the guitar? Talent is there but discipline is not! So, in addition to madly enjoying EES’s videos, I bow to his commitment to discipline.
I grew up in a time when shredders tried their “bestest” to burn guitars necks … playing as much as possible notes which I enjoyed it a lot back then, but later on I reached to the point where on many occasions I said “oh pls don’t overplay it, pls don’t go too far!”, but EES never overplays. He masterfully convinces you that he can play more notes, much more, but he doesn’t. Everything is masterfully in place, and balanced.
Calling him one of the best drummers alive, or the best drummer, is just not enough.
He singlehandedly has changed drumming, and has opened doors to new realms of drumming.
Good for the generation(s) who will be inspired by him.

The part most people don’t notice about that song is how tricky the galloping patterns are on the ride cymbal, especially during the guitar solo. He nailed it from what I can tell, although the ride wasn't very forward in the mix. Most excellent job!
