I used work with a guy who was a sailor on numerous submarines. Apparently, it takes a special kind of individual to handle that environment. It can be extremely claustrophobic, forcing a panicked sailor to try to open a hatch. So, hats off to anyone who can pull off great meals FOUR TIMES A DAY!
@@onetwo12onetwo526 I'm pretty sure it is plenty cool and ventilated on that submarine. It's nuclear-powered and there is a lot of electrical power onboard to suck in sea water and make oxygen out of it, as well as run air conditioning. And the Navy keeps their ships cool on the inside. I was stationed on a vessel that was commissioned just after WW2 and there was very cool air conditioning retrofit to that ship over 40 some years in service. In mostly tropical climates. Morale is everything and these sailors are provided the best quality of life for anyone who spends months in a metal can without sunlight or natural air.
I had an older college roomate who had served on a nuclear sub as a chef, this is when they would stay submerged for a year or so during the late cold war. We shared a house, he stayed in his room the whole time with foil on the windows and taped Star Trek episodes on VHS. He would come out before dinner though and just whip up a huge amount of food for everyone then grab his portion and retire to his room again.
Water filtered vacuums…. My brother’s wife and sister in law sell civilian versions that are vacuum and air purifiers….. instead of paper filter the air is bubbled through a water reservoir in the device….. impurities bond with the water and the air that bubbles up is cleansed….. then the water is regularly drained and replaced …. On the sub the air pulled up by the hood bubbled up through a water vat…. Then that dirty water is pumped out of the sub through the same sewage line that empties the toilet….
I was on a sub from 1986-1989. Looks like some things have changed a bit. We only had a mess specialist chief (MSC) and a first class as his assistant (both Filipino of course). The rest of the kitchen work was done by crew doing rotations of "mess cranking". One thing has not changed - submariners eat very well. We always had weekly surf & turf and pizza nights. We even had steel beach on a couple of patrols. Good times.
Fruits & vegetables naturally emit ethylene gas as they ripen. Therefore Potassium Permanganate is used to absorb ethylene gas in order to keep fruits & vegetables fresh.
The food that is served on naval vessels are very satisfying. I spent 6 years at sea primarily on Aircraft carriers. Food is an easy 9 out of 10. It's not slop at all. Those guys and gals eat very well.

Funny WW2 story - I think it was the Norwegian resistance in WW2 found out their canned sardines were all going to the Uboats, so they laced them with laxatives. Germans never figured it out. Imagine being in a Uboat with what 60 odd men, one head, and everyone's getting a dose of the runs. I'd bet the cook got blamed every single time.
No it's not. I was the Executive Chef at an officer's club on a Marine base. The Army is tasked with inspecting the food as it arrives. Navy Corpsmen inspect galleys afloat and ashore for Navy and Marine facilities to ensure good food safety practices.
@@HonchHeado the galley is the most easy to find footage of A nuclear sub. Every time a LEGITIMATE video is down they alway include a segment about the galley …..

I always heard submarine food was the best. I was in the Maines then Army, so the closest I got was on the boat, and that food was 💩. Still better than most Marine chow halls. Probably on the same level as a normal Army DFAC.
As an extremely competent home chef I could do it. I regularly serve 10 course dinners to a dozen people. However I am over 70 and no longer fit for military service..
Ok, so your thinking do I buy respective bullets or not when I pickup my purchased sidearm. This is rare to us but is probably more the norm. If you don't feel like it then don't. If the bullets and holster come with that is one thing for a specific reason. When you carry or hold known as constitutional carry, you are proper without bullets. If you are certain you will want them, then consider securing them before you pickup your sidearm, known as firearm in some concepts. You then have the liberty and time to figure out what might be the best for you
Morale killer ??? Some people in the military complain about everything,no matter what you do,so let them complain. LOL. They especially complain about the food/chow. They can eat what's served or starve. LOL.
The only submarine that cost anywhere near $13 billion is the Columbia class ($15 billion and rising) WHICH IS CURRENTLY UNDER CONSTRUCTION! The latest Virginia class is about $4.3 billion each and the Ohio class would cost about the same in current dollars. The Seawolf cost about $6 billion in current dollars and the Los Angeles cost less than $2 billion in current dollars. You didn't confuse a Ford class carrier with a submarine did you?

Thanks.
US Submariners are provided the very best food and cooks the Navy can offer.
For 13$ billion dollars
That’s true but they need to . lol cuz if your underwater makes you go crazy imagine w shitty food lol

That kitchen looks bigger than they are saying. However it is still very difficult to cook. Kudos to the chef and cooks!
My question is does the entire ship smell that delicious food being cooked.
