@someguy4405 imagine if gaster really looks like, is the gaster blasters skulls, and gaster blasters are like; blasters made to blast gaster away. and their skull design is based on what gaster would look like without skin or flesh, kind of a " this is going to be you" type of way.
@@Apollo9898LP I hope the plot of the game doesn't turn out to be totally gaster-centric, because that would be some fanfic bullshit, but he's pretty clearly there. The evidence is so overwhelming I can't list it all here.
One thing people always forget when saying "Oh Tenna can't be the rook" is that Rook is a slang term. A Rook is a swindler and a cheat, someone who lies. Likely someone with a lot of charisma and nothing else; similar to, lets say, a T.V host who uses other people to gain fame and then discards them when they are no longer useful.
Damnnnn I mean Spamton literally says that Tenna is a liar, telling us to not believe a thing he says right? Might tie everything together nicely, and might mean that this line from spamton was intended to be sort of similar to when Jevil refers to “queen.” Spamton was calling Tenna a rook, although he wasn’t calling him it directly

…Huh. The thing is, that would be what happened when Noelle found the door. She managed to get to the maze without the guide and didn’t realise she was softlocked, so she just kept trying. Eventually, she found the door. Noelle said she could find the door pretty consistently, so if we have her with us at that point… The only thing needed would be a key :)
What if the stray pixel is the Knight? It's seen in both dark worlds so far, it certainly came before us. It has direct connection to the main bosses qnd after the update is on theirs sides literally. It's dark as darkness. Might be an another piece of Gaster (jumpscare). Could a comedic setup with "A large person could fit here" to the Knight actually being the smallest person in the town. Its size also explains why no one spotted the Knight in the library and school.
the "after the roaring, heroes will appear" thing has an interesting theory that the closet dark world indicates the roaring already did happen once, and that's why castle town is abandoned when we first arrive, and it's how ralsei knows about it in the first place.
@@anotherdnbkris ain’t the one suppressing the gamers in snowgrave it’s us 😢 can’t believe I traumatized a gamer and a lesbian when im both of those 💔💔
I didn't know about the "single black pixel in the boss arena" gag until just now and honestly that's one of the funniest things I've ever heard, I hope Toby keeps doing dumb shit like that for the whole game
honestly I'd like him to not make a dead pixel in like one of the chapters just to make it return in next chapter twice (like, 2 dead pixels) , I think it would be a funny addition to either make players celebrate for the dead pixel finally disappearing and then complain again for it's double return, or to make people cry for the disappearance of the dead pixel and then their celebration of it's return it won't happen I know, but it still would be kinda funny
With regards to Susie and her importance, I also think she’s important because she’s one of the only characters who can override the player’s choices and can’t be influenced like Noelle. She honestly seems like one of the only characters who has a concrete and stable sense of self, even despite all the change happening across the game. Maybe Kris admires her independence. Maybe OUR choices don’t matter, but hers do?
It's *her Ability to MAKE Choices* that makes her so Special, as most of the Lightners have thrown this capability away - either from _the Negative Consequences of Making Choices, or the Belief that one's Choices Don't Matter._ Susie however, has Accepted that Choices Don't Matter, *yet still makes Choices for herself regardless* unlike most, who have degenerated into a Monotonous Routine of their sometimes Torturous Daily Lives without _trying to do anything to Change it or Spice it Up..._ The reason this is so Important is because this Trait of making Choices and hanging onto one's own Convictions despite the Hopelessness in front of them is *_one of the Core Tenets of the Previous Game, Undertale:_* *DETERMINATION.* It's Important here because Susie's *of the Monster Race,* which Historically _don't naturally have the_ *SOUL* _required to have such_ *DETERMINATION.* This would imply that Susie is *an Anomaly in this World: A Monster Born with a SOUL...* Perhaps This is *_Why she's One of the Three in the Prophecy,_* as just like in Real Life, _anyone that is perceived as being Different or Abnormal is often Considered as 'a Monster'_ - even *among Actual Monsters!*
@@lianaverwood9810 i think deltarune monsters do have determination (berdly was very much capable of making a fountain, which queen describes as needing determination to do), it's just that susie has more
I think the reason we can't control Susie is cause she's not a vessel. Kris is still the vessel for the player, which means we can possess their soul and control them, but with Susie all we're doing is making her the sole protagonist of Deltarune for a little while, which means we can observe what she does, but are powerless to control what happens.
I think the "there's only one ending?" is like how the neutral route in undertale is one ending, but depending on your actions (who you kill) there are many different epilogues
I personally think that the reason he says that is by all regards, within the context of the narrative, the weird route shouldn’t exist. Yeah, technically the files for it are always there, but Toby seems to go out of his way to not acknowledge snowgrave, considering the fact that none of the unique tracks have been recognized and he hasn’t mentioned it AT ALL. Also the fact that it is heavily implied that you’re using Noelle’s unique aptitude to break games to completely shatter the “true” narrative. All in all, I think there’s probably going to be a weird ending, it’s just not being acknowledged whatsoever by Toby because it by all rights should not exist.
I personally think that that the routes will have a massive impact in the story. However, all route have the one ending, killing or losing to the titans (we don’t know what will happen, most likely killing the titans but you never know). The evil route will have you assemble a team of super powered party members and get the ending. The pacifist route will have all of the darkeners you saved help you get the ending (The roaring prophecy says that darkeners will turn to stone one by one, not all at once). The neutral route will play out more like the prophecy with the three hero’s. I also think that the way Kris breaks control will be different based on the endings, evil will be a forceful removal of the player, pacifist will be a sad goodbye to the player, and neutral will just be the player just leaving Kris This is just my theory and I’ve wanted to get it out forever just never had the ability to, until now.
real, it's defo going to lead to "one ending" that's vague enough to have different context based on the route you took, but not vague enough to the point that it's just riddles
Chess theory follows that each character's personalitys match the chess pieces, not exactly their names. Tenna/Mike doesn't have to be named Rook, they just have to act like how the piece would. This is due to King being a King card, not a king piece, and queen's cereal number just includes queen past the random letters and numbers.
And a TV-esque boss (like R.V. Pine's Tenna) could work. After all, network hosts are the rooks of TV. They hold the power to cut off shows they feel aren't successful. So a Rook is a perfect fit for the next chapter.
Kris can’t do much without us, they can barely walk, the few times they’ve acted without our input in a fight they get rocked. Also if you hug Ralsei on the river ride in chapter 2, when Ralsei offers a hug of comfort after the Spamton fight they will actually accept it without us pushing. During the entire game we’re making friends but I get the feeling one of the final friend we make is with Kris. Kris doesn’t seem to like us very much but keeps us around when they need us, it might simply be a partnership of convenience but we could potentially truly win them over in the end
Bruh can we stop with the "omg kris hates the player they dont like the player" Kris is indifferent to the player, they let us do all the choices because can you imagine an introverted teenager like Kris doing all that stuff by their own? you will need great social skills to make all the friends like in deltarune unless everything is a game and probably Kris knows about that Kris is neutral about us
@@krizzdreemurr We dont know what Kris feels. Saying he feels neutral is just as much a guess as saying he wants to burn us alive. But, it seems the situation has been forced on Kris to some extent. It would be weird if he just felt "Neutral" about that.
so do remember that Jevil didn't have a portrait either and yet he is rather important to the lore. same thing with Spamton. this is why i dont think the church owner not having a portrait means he is unimportant.
Fair, but it's also worth noting that Spamton and Jevil are both secret bosses. So perhaps being lore significant yet given no dialogue portrait could be a trait exclusive to secret bosses. It could fit in with the theme of secret bosses being forgotten/abandoned. That even the game itself forgot about them and didn't bother to give them dialogue portraits. I'm not saying that this invalidates Alvin's potential importance, but I am saying I'd hesitate to compare him to Spamton and Jevil since those might be specific exceptions. Who knows, maybe Alvin will be a secret boss. As far as I know, there are no rules stating that a secret boss has to be a darkner. Maybe he could be the secret boss of a potential church dark world. Maybe the feeling of living in his father's shadow is the thing that connects him to the theme of being forgotten. I don't know what I am talking about anymore. Whatever, have this long ass reply. It is my gift to you.
Im sure gerson will be more important than him, since he wrote books and that's fiction and stuff. Book world dark world. Idk if "literally just gerson" would appear in such a dark world but he would obv be important to it
Something I keep being reminded of that I just wanted to come back here and discuss is whether or not your choices matter in deltᴀrune. They do. They obviously do. There’s already a Weird Route and will likely be another one later on, even if not in every Chapter. You have to CHOOSE to do the Weird Routes, you have to CHOOSE to fight the Secret Bosses, you have to CHOOSE what your Thrash machine looks like, you have to CHOOSE what Castle Town gets called. Toby never said your choices don’t matter. SUSIE says that, just like how Flowey says the Genocide Route is the only path through the game. TOBY, meanwhile, said in the Chapter 1 FAQ from when the demo first launched that “There’s only one ending, but your choices still matter because the ending isn’t important, there’s just something else you need to do along the way” (Paraphrased)
ch4 already is confirmed to have a dark world i dont know why people keep thinking it will not. About Lanino and Elnina´s names as a spanish person thats just a pun lmao.

9:25 the Sugar Conundrum can be solved: Toriel was sneaking and eating sugar in the bag. She ate it all. She was already low on that old bag of sugar she finished off, but had bought a new bag when she was at the store. So she sneaks the last of the sugar from the old bag, and then had to go get the new bag of sugar from the car. Sugar Conundrum solved. (consequently, she may have had a full bag, bought a new bag anyway, and just guzzled an entire bag of sugar when she thought Susie wasn't looking.)
Alternatively, she also tells the police over the phone that she thought she saw someone prowling around, went outside to look and found the tires had been slashed. So her going to her car for more sugar was just an excuse to look around.
10:51 This was confirmed false in one of the newsletters - i think it may have been Halloween 2023? - in which it was stated that Chapter 4 would be a "much more standard" chapter than 3. While Fox has his ways, I do doubt total misdirection like this. The February newsletter also said regarding chapter 4, "As usual, there isn't much we can show, so please look at this cup." The fact that this cup was not included in this video is a war crime
One thing that bother me about Susie is that she's the only character who's able to "break the script". Yes, of course, the whole "your choices don't matter". BUT, think about it. If it wasn't for Susie "breaking the script" in chapter 2, we (as the player) wouldn't be able to do the weird route. I'm truly convinced that Susie will play a major role later on in the game and will be a very important character.
Characters who "Break the script" Will obviously be important. I agree, Susie will play a massive role in the future chapters. Another character to look out for is Asriel. For some reason, every save slot has a new item for him in the drawer for chapter 1. Yes, that's right, the items change depending on the save slot. Does this mean Asriel can break the script too? I'm not really sure, but it's just something important to note. The most important decisions happen in the dark world, Asriel is seemingly the only character that breaks this.
@@Rerizga404 I know. But, due to her sometimes breaking the script, i could see Susie going against us in a future chapter (Especially in the weird routes, where we do weird things).
Interesting thing I’ve noticed: Susie is the only party member who we, the player, the *soul,* cannot control. From the start of chapter one she’s doing her own thing, attacking without any heed from us at all. Hell, chapter one has a whole dedicated segment where we are pretty much helpless to do anything but watch as Susie beats Lancer to near death, independent of our input. And once she _does_ start following instructions, they’re not from us. They’re from _Kris._ Susie only does what we tell her when we’re talking through Kris, otherwise we once again have no control over her (as evidenced in the Ferris Wheel scene in chapter 2. Perhaps there is more to “The Power of Mean Girls” than it appears…
Regarding Papyrus, I actually have a theory on where he's at. In Undertale (the game), in the cancelled alarm clock dialogue, and now even in Newsletters, we know that Papyrus and Flowey have a friendship, even if Flowey acts like a cactus about it- This is all to say.........I think Papyrus is at college with Asriel! I think they're classmates and even maybe roommates in a dorm. That's what he's busy with. I dunno what he'd be studying...puzzle theory? Spaghetti science? That would also explain Sans's one line about meeting his brother- * i'm sure you'll meet him someday. * maybe around when your brother comes home? Cause that would mean Papyrus is also coming home on break from college. He might even carpool with Asriel. He does have his cool red car after all. So yeah. Them's my brainthots. Thanks for reading!
This is just a reminder that giving Noelle the Jevilstail gives you a new one when you reach Castle Town, meaning she probably won’t be playable again since then there’d be two of them, and as you pointed out, only the Devilsknife IS Jevil. (Although that also has the issue that A. Jevil TELLS YOU to make it, meaning he too wants you to pursue violence, which goes against his views of what matters and what doesn’t, and B. There are already Devilsknives in his fight)
Or if she's playable again it'll just be unequipped from her. This seems like a pretty standard "RPG gives you a leaving character's items back" thing, to me.
@@TwilightFlower9 I feel like then it would actually give you ALL of your armour back given you can give her literally anything bar like the twin ribbons or the Dealmaker or anything else you get after she leaves. I feel like Noelle might be important to the story given her being in the original concept art and being treated as more of a main character than Ralsei during the Goner Maker for some reason, and she might be playable again, but I feel like she at the very least won’t be a part of the main party again, even if she IS playable later. It’s like that one part of Dragon Blazers or something.
Hey, btw, I just wanted to point out a bit of a mundane thing with the secret bosses that I haven't heard really anyone talk about (although I haven't actively looked so idk). Toby has specifically kept the party count to 3 through the 2 chapters, doing so even when Noelle was tagging along with the main 3 in the second chapter. Even if it can be changed in the future chapters, and even if it can be put off as a "Toby didn't bother" moment, I think it's important. If you were to defeat 3 of the secret bosses with violence, then the other 3 passively, your party would have a full set of weapons and a collection of useful armors, along with an extra armor slot for whatever else. On top of this, the weapon from Jevil is only for Susie, and the weapon from Spamton is only for Ralsei, pushing this idea further. I get that this is going off the assumption that there will be more secret bosses, and I get it's not exactly a substantial theory, but I feel the secret bosses might help or even allow for an actual change in the story of Deltarune. Not sure though, so idk.
21:20 in undertale files gaster has 6666666 hp, 66666atk, 66666 def and drop -6666 xp and gold so the fact that this garbage noise is 666% slower makes it preety much gaster thing
Honestly the easiest way for me to tie Tenna to the Chess Theory is him being a sort of ‘Oz the Great and Powerful’ type presenting himself as massive and intimidating through interacting through a massive times square-esque tv tower before being revealed as a pipsqueak post-boss fight.
I have a crack theory with no basis that there "mike" or some other character being refaired by Tenna has "rookie" And by the end of the chapter they would backstab Tenna going from "rookie" to ROOKie" This would like with the chess theory of rook coming in play when the pawn in front falls
Could be as simple as a cROOKed anTENNA; Could also be a crook joke (considering the gangster/shootout/ shadow guys) tho I also like there bein a duo of leads in ch3 Crook 'n' Tenna, all based on wordplay obviously
I think the reason why Ralsei is able to stay normal outside of his home fountain is because, if you recall, there were 2 fountains in chapter 1. The one inside of the closet, where Ralsei lives, in castle town, (which we later see is able to house darkners from any fountain perfectly fine,) and the fountain in the old classroom directly connected to the closet. (Which is the the big golden door we enter in chapter 1 to get into the old classroom's dark world.) Personally, I think Ralsei's immunity to being turned to stone can be easily explained by him being born from what appears to be a "universal" dark fountain, compatible with any darkner, thus making darkners born from it compatible with any fountain, if that makes sense. His ability to travel between dark worlds so easily makes no sense though. I'm willing to leave it as a result of him being this kind of "special" darkner for now but that feels like a strange way to explain it, so I'm hoping for a better answer later. Especially considering Ralsei doesn't seem to even think about entering Kris' pocket like other characters from the old classroom do.
@lxcidanalogy8414 maybe the creation of other dark fountains creates pathways to other fountains, a reminder that door to the closet was closed. and for some reason people think a closed door means the dark fountains can't get pass them.
@@chongwillson972 the door was closed, but that door also represented the literal direct door between the closet (ralsei's castle) and the old classroom (card kingdom). It's very likely that closing a door would prevent letting the dark fountain out...the evidence for this is the computer lab. Why was it just the lab, and not the whole library? The door to the lab was closed. The reason that the dark world in the closet connected to the dark world in the old classroom so easily is they share the same connection they do in the real world; one single door.
Theory: Ralsei was made from the grand dark fountain, the fountain any darkner can go to. So since he’s made of “PURE DARKNESS”, he could possibly have powers ordinary darkners don’t.
but it's a boring theory! he's special cause he's out of a special place, come on. it's not a cool and fun answer. it's like, setting up a bit of mystery (how did he get here, how did he open door, how did he get out, how did he get in) and then just answering it with "cause he's speeeecial, cause he's from speeeeecial place" it's boring. also wouldn't pure darkness require literally NOTHING else in it? this is what pure means. Kinda like, in a sterile, perfectly contained test lab. not a school closet. Like, unless ralsei is like, darkness itself, somehow, and thus everywhere, and can appear anywhere, but that sounds goofy.
@@QSBraWQIt would also explain why Ralsei doesn’t turn to stone in Cyber World. Ralsei heavily implies “pure darkness” allows darkners to exist without turning into stone, because that’s literally how we free Lancer from being stone. We take him back to Castle town, the place of “pure” darkners, whatever that means.
@@QSBraWQpure darkness probably just means darkness not connected to any theme, ralsei doesn't have to do with board games or the internet but doesn't turn to stone.
I think we might be getting closer. that post Toby made was from Spring. it's been a few months. if Toby does release a Summer 2024 Newsletter, he might say a little bit more. maybe not giving us a release date yet, but he might have gotten more progress done, making the release date seem closer. (for those who don't remember how development works, phase 1 is coming up with ideas and concepts, phase 2 is the actual development of the game, and phase three is the post-development. porting, dubbing other languages, bug testing, ETC) by that point, Chapter 3 might be closer to finishing the third and final phase of development. if not be fully complete. meanwhile, Chapter 4 might be really close to completing the second phase of development. if not have already entered the third phase. either way, we'll need to wait until both chapters are complete before they can be released.
Honestly, I have hope of course and am desperate for more DR content, but I can’t see Toby releasing another chapter this year. Maybe that’s my desire to be pleasantly surprised or the fact that I’m accustomed to not having ch. 3 and basically any news of it buuuuut my expectations are def giving Toby a *lot* of time lmao I do definitely hope those of you guessing later this year are right, though. I need me more!!!!
i noticed that if you put all of the songs names with the motif lost girl, you get "lost girl next door. noelle, find her", the only one that doesnt fit, is ferris wheel
Pizzapants as the knight would be funni but also it would feel unsatisfying. Kinda like the Kris knight theory. He just doesn’t seem to have the motives.
In all fairness, I think "Pizza Pants is actually the knight and he's awesome" would be a very Toby move considering "The lazy skeleton based off of Comic sans is actually an intensly self aware secret boss and the hardest boss in the game". I honestly think it would work well if he was fleshed out a lot
deltarune theory video makers be bad at their job challenge (impossible) seriously tho its insane how fucking well edited, well put together, well written, and even well scored this video is. its fucking incredible
I don't really know how you came to the conclusion that there is a chance chapter 4 doesn't have a dark world, in the latest newsletter toby talks about how he needs to finish a few battles and improve the pacing of the bosses, pretty sure that confirms that chapter 4 will in fact have a dark world. Also chess theory doesnt say that the bosses have to be called "rook" or "bishop" they just need to have the characteristics of one. Pretty damn good video though, you summarized almost 3 years of theories pretty well, except these 2 parts.
Also, one could argue that Chapters 3 can still fit the Chess Theming regardless as the Dark World involved is at Kris' House. The Proverb "The Home is One's Castle" may be implemented here, and a Castle is another Name used for the Rook Piece in Chess! Another possibility is that while the Antagonist themselves might not resemble a Rook Piece, something they use in their Boss Fight could - like a Golem-esque Kaiju or something that references the Rook Piece or something like that, since this Dark World uses Themes based around Television... After that, Chapter 4's Dark World happening within/near a Church completely fits the Theme, with the Bishop Piece being Next in the lineup...
37:19 its because we make Kris step out of the button when Noelle is in the lazer, if noelle wasn't fast enought, something very bad could happen, one thing is you doing silly pranks on your friends, other thing is doing something that could actually hurt them, and when you step on the button and imeadiately step out of it, Kris doesnt seem hurt there was no way for noelle to be hurt
I’ve unfortunately cursed myself into an obsession with watching all Deltarune-related content… so here I am I think the chapter 3 secret boss will either be VHS/CD related or have something to do with ads/infomercials

37:30 I think my favourite theory in all undertale-deltarune is solely and entirely the fact that could possibly be something threatening the light world that is only referred to as "the creature"
23:09 You forgot about FRIEND's filenames sharing a motif with stuff like the title screen, Goner Maker, file select, etc. Seems very tied to Gaster-y things, and almost certainly *not* Spamton.
Just to note, the vessel's gift is not necessarily deliberately set to mind by default. All the values for the questions are set to 0, it just so happens that mind has the index of 0 for that question for some reason. It might still mean something, but probably not.
"Nobody's been making deltarune content." Oh buddy you have no idea how far the soundcloud fancontent has gone since that video of yours lol, at one point a fake leak account actually leaked music from the Mario VS Donkey Kong switch remake nearly a month before the game even released.
Absolutely fantastic video, it got me way more excited for the rest of Deltarune than I already was! There were so many thing that made me lose my mind about how well they connected, and even though you didn't come up with most of it, you explained it really well. Also if Ralsei has the making of a secret boss, then Sans 100% does too. You didn't hear that from me.
One thing: Kris can save in the light world at will. If you use hacks to save in the light world, no matter what, it will always use Kris's name. This code was purposefully put in so that all light-world saves will be Kris, not the player. There's also code to check the amount of letters in the light world name when saved, meaning we may play as another character at some point.
What if Undertale was just a Giant Dark fountain. All the lore about the monsters getting locked "underground" could be true, but what if the spell that was casted was the opening of a dark fountain to banish all the monsters. That would explain why monsters can do magic anytime in Undertale and only in the dark fountains in Deltarune.
I think I Deltarune will probably be my favorite game once it's out and I have played it all. I love how You the player and Kris are separate people I think it's neat seeing a game where the main conflict is between You and the character you are controlling Kris, we never put much thought into how actions are effect not just the world itself but the character we use to interact with the world how do are actions effect the very people who we use as are "Vessels" in this case Kris. It is a topic I have never seen anywhere else, and I am excited for what comes next in this story.
Imagine you're a developer, messing up some jank ahh code, and you just leave it there to be. Moments later, and now your fans are dissecting that jank ahh code, because they think it's lore... I would be euphoric.
We don't know for 100% sure, it is possible Toby coded them differently on purpose, but yeah it's important to point that out so that people can have the full context and take their own conclusions
I think from the spring mini newsletter talking about chapter 4 needed 10 more maps and talking about a total of 3 gimmicks which feels like way too much to just be more light world, especially since in the past I believe he also said chapter 4 is a more normal chapter
Personally i have. A bit of a problem with the theory that Chapter 4 will be exclusively Light World. Mostly because we KNOW IT ISNT. The May newsletter actively states that chapter 4 contains battles and gimmicks. And unless Kris and Susie start throwing hands in the Light World, i highly doubt the entire chapter will consist of just that. More likely, is that Chapter 4 starts with a daytime segment, then transitions into the church dark world, and either: A, ends the chapter at the sealing of the fountain like chapter 3 does, or B, theres an evening segment and the chapter ends off with another classic Deltarune cliffhanger. Thank you for coming to my TED talk. (Edit: Many other people in the comments have already stated things like this, but using direct quotes from toby instead. So hey. Good on you guys for knowing your stuff.)
regarding the potential significance of pizzapants to the story, toby recently posted new portraits for him on twitter. the fact that he's getting more on top of those he already has tells me he's going to play an active role in a future chapter, maybe even a temporary party member. it'd be interesting for him to get some genuine importance as a character beyond being an undertale shopkeeper
Correction the puppet scarf is in fact obtainable in the wierd route after sealing the fountain and going to castle town if you look in your weapons the puppet scarf will be there
I recently had to scrap a concept for a how to draw dragons secret boss that dealt with the concept if homesickness, since she will never be returned to what is essentialy the cyberworld.
@Tramon81 i had the idea the how to draw dragons book would be will kidnap ralsei, due to ralsei being a prince and them being a dragoness is a reversal of dragons kidnaping princesses and the how to draw dragons connections to asriel maybe it mistakes ralsei for asirel. and hey if they are a secret boss maybe ralsei can be one with the connections to them, like how spamton to kris. and maybe those connections are the subject of isolation, something ralsei would know the most about.
The pink and yellow eyes are meant to match Swatch's red and yellow eyes, as spamton is trying to impersonate Swatch's look. This is explained in swatch dialogue and the Spamton Sweepstakes
8:57 it would be fun if the dragoness constantly tries to kidnap ralsei due to being a prince and because asirel has a certain interest in it, hell maybe that's how toby can troll us so that ralsei and toriel never meet each other.
1:08:45 Okay so I am like fairly certain that you still get the PuppetScarf in the weird route, along side (maybe) the ShadowCrystal. Because I remember playing through the weird route for a playthrough and being surprised that Spamton still gave you the PuppetScarf in that route
You know if it’s not necessarily “entertainment” but rather “distractions.” If this is the metric we use, I could see a lot more options for dark worlds opening up.. including the church
theres much more to chess theory than the main boss simply being a chess character. theres some good videos on the similarities and some i remember are queen trying to turn noelle into a knight (pawn promotion), queen being able to roam anywhere she wants while king remains stagnant symbolizing their pieces movement abilities, and the common piece colors resembling light vs dark
26:55 Actually I think there's one more change between saves I've noticed. I don't 100% remember all the specifics (I've been avoiding playing Deltarune as much as possible while waiting for chapters 3 and 4 just because I want the game to feel completely fresh to me once we actually have half of it) but I remember at the end of Chapter 1 the flowers in Rudy's hospital room change along with his dialogue when you interact with them. Hopefully I'm remembering that right and I didn't just completely make that up out of nowhere lol.
when i saw the length and heard the “while doing something else comment” i really thought this was gonna be a low-effort podcast style video. but holy SHIT i was wrong, this video is amazing. fully edited, funny all the way through, making use of every minute well. this might be the most concise and effective collection of Deltarune theory I’ve ever seen. while there aren’t a lot of new ideas raised, it makes up for this by explaining all existing theories well and giving credit where it’s due. and when you did raise an original thought, it always ranged between delightful and shockingly prescient. you’ve got your head on straight, man. excellent work.
nope, its DEFINITELY papyrus, it makes so much sense to me honestly. Papyrus is even more lonely in deltarune, theres probably someone external that's telling papyrus to create the fountains and he thinks hes doing good
@ajojofann I mean, there is certainly quite a bit of evidence. But there *is* also a fair share of counter evidence, and it just doesn't seem like something Toby would choose to do. And besides, his motive is either make friends, which doesn't make sense since the knight never stayed, or there's somebody convincing him as you said but... at that point, it doesn't matter, we're basically just making stuff up at that point. However, I do think there is *a* chance he'll be the knight, just not as likely as Kris and Alvin.
A bit more about Catti since you mentioned her: She also has some history with both Noelle and Susie. If you ask Catti about Noelle, she’ll mention that she “taught her protection spells” and urges us (Kris in this scenarios) to “save her” from Susie, as well as just gloating Noelle in general. And with Susie, there’s the fact that she outright refuses to go in the diner because of Catti, mentioning some event between those two (stealing Jock’s hat, though I think it might’ve been something a bit more serious and severe). Oh, and there’s the fact that Noelle actually mentions Catti herself when petting the Tasks!
THE PIXEL IN THE BOSS ARENA IS THE KNIGHT, THATS HOW IT CAN SNEAK AROUND AND CREATE FOUNTAINS WITHOUT ANYONE NOTICING ITS SO SMALL YOU DONT NOTICE IT UNLESS YOU’RE LOOKING FOR IT
I like Jas’s interpretation of Chapter 3, with Tenna being the main boss who is the producer of the TV shows, Mike being the star of a specific show (Being a cooking show, as Jas imagines him also being the Dreemurr’s Microvave), and the main attraction, -The Secret Boss- thhe next SHADOW BOSS!, our favorite Lovable Varmint, our Most Friend, …Petaly. He’s literally designed to be “a deliberate bastardization of Flowey in every way” and is all the things people think the next secret boss will be. He’s a flower, he’s a former TV star, he’s a cowboy, he has a tragic and relatable past about child neglect and the loss of childhood that comes with being a child star who’s unable to maintain an audience as they grow up, and best of all, he’s a terrible horrible person that I hate and that’s why I love him.
@@chairdog Jas’s most popular character is Petaly, so it’s probably easiest to get to Jas through him. It’s also how I found out about Jas. You can probably just Google something like “Petaly deltᴀrune” and get there that way. There was also a Petaly plushie on Makeship that literally JUST ended its campaign, so that’s unfortunate.

This video was a real treat to watch. And good job with all the editing. Lots of funny and interesting edits. Nice of your to shout out so many deltarune creators works. They all rock. Man i cannot wait for chapter 3 and 4. It is so hard to stay determined
i like to think that mike and tenna are both the main bosses of chapter 3 because there are two rooks in chess this may also mean that there will be two bishops and knights (maybe the roaring knight and his steed because people also call knight pieces horses)
The multi-knight theory is that there are multiple knights, I’ve seen some people compare it to 2 players, it would let there be a knight who was s mistaken (like papyrus) and a knight who wants the roaring
@@ThisIsAHandle-xz5yo 8 party members as the pawns could also work too all we need left is 4 party members who represent Integrity, Bravery, Determination and whatever the white soul is (Hope????)
@@funnydotyes Kris, Susie, Noelle, Dess, and Asriel are the most important child characters in the game, so that’s five pawns, the vessel, Ralsei and Berdly could also be options, but The Vessel could be on the other side, Ralsei is a darkner, and Snowgrave route makes Berdly unlikely. Something about chess I would like to point out is there are two sides, white (light) and black (dark), it’s possible both sides will be given pieces King and Queen for black are King and Queen, for white it’s could be Toriel and Asgore. There are also seven chapters, one for each piece and the final one could be the players, the player for white is us, and the player for black could be Gaster if you assume that the 7(?) secret bosses + the vessel will be the pawns
@@funnydotyes the thing is, Gaster seems to be in some sort of in between state of following the rules and not, he makes the secret bosses insane, but why? Is that how the game is supposed to go or is he interfering? What was the original game supposed to be before Gaster got interrupted when making the Vessel? The weird route has us break the rules of Deltarune, but maybe it follows the rules of Gasters game. Weird route itself breaks chess, Berdly and Spamton die by Noelle, if Noelles a white pawn why can she take another white pawn. Pieces take the same pieces as the side they’re on, Spamton takes on the role of queen, which is just him promoting, but can still be killed by a simple pawn, in a normal route not a single piece gets taken even if you only use violence, but in weird route 2 do. Even if Berdly and Ralsei are pawns that leaves one space open, that missing pawn could be essential, Papyrus could be the pawn, but he could be the knight, any kid in class, Burgerpants, onion, and a few others could al be that pawn, but all of them are impossible to confirm or deny. And then there’s the egg man, egg in Wingdings is just the knights movement, but we don’t know which side he’s on, it if he’s even on a side, Wingdings usually means Gaster, but Eggman is friendly with us. (This is like 3 theories combined into one)
Considering that you leave the thorn ring equippped on Noelle if you cast snowgrave, I think it's unlikely we'll be able to get the twisted sword if we complete the route. Keep a "1 foot in the snowgrave" file handy for later chapters, to make sure you have a thorn ring handy if that's true. 17:00
one thing that you forgot is that at the end of the dark world segments in chapter 2, you can actually go back into the classroom and you will see temmie sitting there alone. interacting with her will show how many eggs you have collected so far (i think it will show 2 eggs even if you've already put the eggs in asgore's fridge and san's egg basket but im not sure about that)
1:09:26 I thought it was more about addiction or escapism or even both Mostly thanks to Queen's monologue about how people use the internet to escape feeling things
This is a theory on the whole game btw I personally think that that the routes will have a massive impact in the story.
Mike-Rowave Anne-Tenna and this is my limit on theory crafting for now please insert quarter another time. someone inserted coin anyway, here I go: Yellow and pink have significance because you can make the spare color in Undertale yellow or pink. perhaps those eyes are somehow connected to mercy?
Great video! It's refreshing seeing such a well-researched video on Deltarune, especially one that covers every little detail I've seen many others miss.
Im just now finished with the Knight section and im surprised he doesnt mention the Vessel or Dess being the knight, given their connection to the Dark fountains, or the Oblivion theory. Some stuff in this video is a bit old despite how recent it is, but ive never made one of these vids before so maybe thats just how it goes lol. Or im just in really particular circles of the DR fandom.
35:24 He didn't mention them because he's basically not interested in the question of who the Knight is. Which I personally also agree with, I don't understand all this obsession of people about who a Knight is.
1:07:50 The reason why people think this is because there are seven chapters and seven human souls. We have already seen two in the secret boss fights: Red and Yellow. My next guess is that it will be Green, based on the order of how they fell, but reversed. If that's the case, Patience will be used in the final secret boss. Since it's the last one, it will probably be the hardest, but we have no experience with Patience and don't know what it does. We'll probably see it earlier along with Bravery. So, my guess is that we'll see all the human souls at least once.
my personal pick for who could be the knight is alphys, she has no good alibies and has access and knows where both kris and susie would be during both chapters and with her being associated very closely with following gaster's footsteps in undertale it could very much so be that she's the one opening the fountains as she has access and a shaky alibi for not being in the library in chapter two, it is a possibility that she could in fact be the knight also, she's a teacher and could be carrying pens on her used to open fountains it's a shaky and silly theory but it may hold true further down the line, depending on the reveals that toby throws our way and the lack of exposition aside from her being shown to like anime just like she does in the undertale universe
29:25 is that a reference to 1, 2 Oatmeal...? btw what an amazing video, this genuinely one of the most well-researched Deltarune speculation videos I've seen!
26:00 chara's name is definitely one of those things where it's just so commonly accepted fanon that everyone forgets about it honestly I wouldn't be surprised if toby just accepted it as the canon name too
@@TitozThingbut if you hack the game to make it so you can just skip the name making section and play without a name somehow, the game just defaults to ‘CHARA’
47:45 What id like to add to Susie is that shes the only party member we cant control (at least until she lets us in battle), which could also tie in with the games theme of freedom and our choices not mattering, at least to her (could be also why she said in ch1 that our choices don't matter). The only time she does what we tell her to is when she CHOOSES to listen to us in battle at the end of ch1. This could also potentially be related to why the susie-tea heals kris so much, if being controlled by the player is something kris hates it would make sense why they would like someone who is immune to that influence. But that's just a theory ... im not finishing that sentence. (also if this is something you talk about later in the video, sorry, i wrote this right after the susie segment ended, otherwise i would have forgotten to)
My idea for how Chess theory could work is that, if there are 2 rooks in chess, we could have 2 main bosses for Chapter 3, and Mike could be named "Mike R. Phone" (Microphone) or something with the R being rook. Tenna could be like "Anne R. Tenna". Just pure guesswork though.
59:27 I'm pretty sure Undyne also has a dialogue option like this? something along the lines of asking how Alphys is, meant to trick undertale players in the same way the sans dialogue options do

It's *her Ability to MAKE Choices* that makes her so Special, as most of the Lightners have thrown this capability away - either from _the Negative Consequences of Making Choices, or the Belief that one's Choices Don't Matter._ Susie however, has Accepted that Choices Don't Matter, *yet still makes Choices for herself regardless* unlike most, who have degenerated into a Monotonous Routine of their sometimes Torturous Daily Lives without _trying to do anything to Change it or Spice it Up..._
The reason this is so Important is because this Trait of making Choices and hanging onto one's own Convictions despite the Hopelessness in front of them is *_one of the Core Tenets of the Previous Game, Undertale:_* *DETERMINATION.*
It's Important here because Susie's *of the Monster Race,* which Historically _don't naturally have the_ *SOUL* _required to have such_ *DETERMINATION.* This would imply that Susie is *an Anomaly in this World: A Monster Born with a SOUL...*
Perhaps This is *_Why she's One of the Three in the Prophecy,_* as just like in Real Life, _anyone that is perceived as being Different or Abnormal is often Considered as 'a Monster'_ - even *among Actual Monsters!*

However, all route have the one ending, killing or losing to the titans (we don’t know what will happen, most likely killing the titans but you never know). i suppose it will be like every ending youll stop the roaring, just different result afterward
I am a fan of the Theory that [HYPERLINK BLOCKED] is Determination. Since that word also doesn't appear at all during the save portions
Smart!
(just an fyi it's "serial" not "cereal")
Kris can’t do much without us, they can barely walk, the few times they’ve acted without our input in a fight they get rocked. Also if you hug Ralsei on the river ride in chapter 2, when Ralsei offers a hug of comfort after the Spamton fight they will actually accept it without us pushing. During the entire game we’re making friends but I get the feeling one of the final friend we make is with Kris. Kris doesn’t seem to like us very much but keeps us around when they need us, it might simply be a partnership of convenience but we could potentially truly win them over in the end
Bruh can we stop with the "omg kris hates the player they dont like the player"
Kris is indifferent to the player, they let us do all the choices because can you imagine an introverted teenager like Kris doing all that stuff by their own? you will need great social skills to make all the friends like in deltarune

It could be that he isn’t Lightner.

@@CalvinNoireAint she in of the main characters? She already have a big role
@@Rerizga404 I know. But, due to her sometimes breaking the script, i could see Susie going against us in a future chapter (Especially in the weird routes, where we do weird things).
@CalvinNoire Susie didn't break the script tho we are just not able to "choose" in DELTARUNE
In Undertale (the game), in the cancelled alarm clock dialogue, and now even in Newsletters, we know that Papyrus and Flowey have a friendship, even if Flowey acts like a cactus about it-
This is all to say.........I think Papyrus is at college with Asriel! I think they're classmates and even maybe roommates in a dorm. That's what he's busy with. I dunno what he'd be studying...puzzle theory? Spaghetti science?
That would also explain Sans's one line about meeting his brother-
* i'm sure you'll meet him someday.

You watched the ,,Device Theory " right?
hi :)
I am convinced Toby will just make a “video killed the radio star” joke
Honestly the easiest way for me to tie Tenna to the Chess Theory is him being a sort of ‘Oz the Great and Powerful’ type presenting himself as massive and intimidating through interacting through a massive times square-esque tv tower before being revealed as a pipsqueak post-boss fight.
or just being a right-hand-man of rook who does all his footwork sorta like how lancer was for king
why cant tenna's last name just be rook boom easiest way to still make chess theory work lol.
"Welcome. Welcome to City 17."
I have a crack theory with no basis that there "mike" or some other character being refaired by Tenna has "rookie"
And by the end of the chapter they would backstab Tenna going from "rookie" to ROOKie"
This would like with the chess theory of rook coming in play when the pawn in front falls
(Which is the the big golden door we enter in chapter 1 to get into the old classroom's dark world.)
Personally, I think Ralsei's immunity to being turned to stone can be easily explained by him being born from what appears to be a "universal" dark fountain, compatible with any darkner, thus making darkners born from it compatible with any fountain, if that makes sense.
@lxcidanalogy8414
maybe the creation of other dark fountains creates pathways to other fountains, a reminder that door to the closet was closed.
and for some reason people think a closed door means the dark fountains can't get pass them.
No, it's literally because he fits into other dark worlds. The reason for darkners turning to stone is not belonging, not going to another dark world
Theory: Ralsei was made from the grand dark fountain, the fountain any darkner can go to. So since he’s made of “PURE DARKNESS”, he could possibly have powers ordinary darkners don’t.
Ngl, that sounds super edgy out of context, for example the sentence
“he’s made of “PURE DARKNESS””
is so edgy that it pokes your mouth
but it's a boring theory! he's special cause he's out of a special place, come on. it's not a cool and fun answer. it's like, setting up a bit of mystery (how did he get here, how did he open door, how did he get out, how did he get in) and then just answering it with "cause he's speeeecial, cause he's from speeeeecial place" it's boring.
also wouldn't pure darkness require literally NOTHING else in it? this is what pure means.
@@shade08538doesn't ralsei implicitly say that he cant turn to stone?

(for those who don't remember how development works, phase 1 is coming up with ideas and concepts, phase 2 is the actual development of the game, and phase three is the post-development. porting, dubbing other languages, bug testing, ETC) by that point, Chapter 3 might be closer to finishing the third and final phase of development. if not be fully complete. meanwhile, Chapter 4 might be really close to completing the second phase of development. if not have already entered the third phase. either way, we'll need to wait until both chapters are complete before they can be released.

deltarune theory video makers be bad at their job challenge (impossible)
seriously tho its insane how fucking well edited, well put together, well written, and even well scored this video is. its fucking incredible
It's possible he wrote and edited that part before the newsletter released, and forgot to fix it.
A rook is also apparently, as it's 2nd definition states, a swindler and a crook. That could fit him very well.

One thing: Kris can save in the light world at will. If you use hacks to save in the light world, no matter what, it will always use Kris's name. This code was purposefully put in so that all light-world saves will be Kris, not the player.
@Tramon81
i had the idea the how to draw dragons book would be will kidnap ralsei, due to ralsei being a prince and them being a dragoness is a reversal of dragons kidnaping princesses and the how to draw dragons connections to asriel maybe it mistakes ralsei for asirel.
and hey if they are a secret boss maybe ralsei can be one with the connections to them, like how spamton to kris.
and maybe those connections are the subject of isolation, something ralsei would know the most about.
I can add on to this perhaps, what if the boss's thing with knowing your choices don't matter is wanting to forget/go back and live in ignorance
The pink and yellow eyes are meant to match Swatch's red and yellow eyes, as spamton is trying to impersonate Swatch's look. This is explained in swatch dialogue and the Spamton Sweepstakes

Regarding Papyrus as the Knight, I agree that it probably won't be him... But I *really* want it to be him, so I'm still hopeful.
nope, its DEFINITELY papyrus, it makes so much sense to me honestly.

6:11 its my current belief that mike and tenna will be "the rooks"
Considering that you leave the thorn ring equippped on Noelle if you cast snowgrave, I think it's unlikely we'll be able to get the twisted sword if we complete the route.
Keep a "1 foot in the snowgrave" file handy for later chapters, to make sure you have a thorn ring handy if that's true.

one thing that you forgot is that at the end of the dark world segments in chapter 2, you can actually go back into the classroom and you will see temmie sitting there alone. interacting with her will show how many eggs you have collected so far (i think it will show 2 eggs even if you've already put the eggs in asgore's fridge and san's egg basket but im not sure about that)
Love how you used Undertale Yellow music for the cowboy portion lol. Love the Enemy Approaching song for UTY
1:09:26 I thought it was more about addiction or escapism or even both
Mostly thanks to Queen's monologue about how people use the internet to escape feeling things
This is a theory on the whole game btw
I personally think that that the routes will have a massive impact in the story. However, all route have the one ending, killing or losing to the titans (we don’t know what will happen, most likely killing the titans but you never know). The evil route will have you assemble a team of super powered party members and get the ending. The pacifist route will have all of the darkeners you saved help you get the ending (The roaring prophecy says that darkeners will turn to stone one by one, not all at once). The neutral route will play out more like the prophecy with the three hero’s. I also think that the way Kris breaks control will be different based on the endings, evil will be a forceful removal of the player, pacifist will be a sad goodbye to the player, and neutral will just be the player just leaving Kris
This is just my theory and I’ve wanted to get it out forever just never had the ability to, until now.
phenomenal video! cant wait to come back next year and laugh at you /silly
Mike-Rowave
Anne-Tenna
and this is my limit on theory crafting for now please insert quarter another time.
someone inserted coin anyway, here I go: Yellow and pink have significance because you can make the spare color in Undertale yellow or pink. perhaps those eyes are somehow connected to mercy?
Great video! It's refreshing seeing such a well-researched video on Deltarune, especially one that covers every little detail I've seen many others miss.
Im just now finished with the Knight section and im surprised he doesnt mention the Vessel or Dess being the knight, given their connection to the Dark fountains, or the Oblivion theory. Some stuff in this video is a bit old despite how recent it is, but ive never made one of these vids before so maybe thats just how it goes lol. Or im just in really particular circles of the DR fandom.
Man, I think is because there is no clue about those being the knight, I mean... is just way improbable
@@tifani2.0---31 if you read oblivion theory you would know why knight Vessel is a great canidate
35:24 He didn't mention them because he's basically not interested in the question of who the Knight is. Which I personally also agree with, I don't understand all this obsession of people about who a Knight is.
@@iosis9324 I mean, they're the main antagonist so far. I think it's understandable why people wanna know who they are lol
Hells yeah, been holding out hope for another Deltarune video
40:49 _"Personally I prefer chicken over lamb"_ You say that, but it wouldn't be lamb you'd get, would it? It'd be delicious roast sushi.
So, my guess is that we'll see all the human souls at least once.
my personal pick for who could be the knight is alphys, she has no good alibies and has access and knows where both kris and susie would be during both chapters and with her being associated very closely with following gaster's footsteps in undertale it could very much so be that she's the one opening the fountains as she has access and a shaky alibi for not being in the library in chapter two, it is a possibility that she could in fact be the knight
also, she's a teacher and could be carrying pens on her used to open fountains
it's a shaky and silly theory but it may hold true further down the line, depending on the reveals that toby throws our way and the lack of exposition aside from her being shown to like anime just like she does in the undertale universe
29:25 is that a reference to 1, 2 Oatmeal...?
btw what an amazing video, this genuinely one of the most well-researched Deltarune speculation videos I've seen!
I am so happy to know I was not the only one to notice a reference to that legendary work of art.
26:00 chara's name is definitely one of those things where it's just so commonly accepted fanon that everyone forgets about it
honestly I wouldn't be surprised if toby just accepted it as the canon name too
It gets confirmed in the game. If u dont name them, they’re Chara. If u name them Chara, its deemed as the “true name”
@@immanopeonouttahere3482 its probably only called the "true name" because in the code, 'chara' can be used as a shortened version of 'character'
@@TitozThingthat is literally the case
The variable containing the fallen humans name you input is called “truechara”
It’s just a meta joke
@@TitozThingbut if you hack the game to make it so you can just skip the name making section and play without a name somehow, the game just defaults to ‘CHARA’
@@ArtemisWasHere yeah, exactly!

What id like to add to Susie is that shes the only party member we cant control (at least until she lets us in battle), which could also tie in with the games theme of freedom and our choices not mattering, at least to her (could be also why she said in ch1 that our choices don't matter). The only time she does what we tell her to is when she CHOOSES to listen to us in battle at the end of ch1. This could also potentially be related to why the susie-tea heals kris so much, if being controlled by the player is something kris hates it would make sense why they would like someone who is immune to that influence.
But that's just a theory
... im not finishing that sentence.
Not only is the video itself is super informative and helped me learn a lot of new stuff, but the visuals is on top too
59:27 I'm pretty sure Undyne also has a dialogue option like this? something along the lines of asking how Alphys is, meant to trick undertale players in the same way the sans dialogue options do
LOVE this video!! Such a great overall summary of Deltarune theorising thus far.
42:48 Ralsei goes like: * Kris, if you open a Dark Fountain, I'll give you a Choco Diamond!
Solid, clean, humorous editing. A lot of good points and an engaging flow despite the jumping from topic to topic. This was a video I was going to put on in the background but instead watched completely on its own. Good job!
