I mean, you _technically_ had your wish granted, it just happened to be hit with the Monkey's Paw treatment Now that I'm coming back to this video after the amazing Chapter 2 experience, I'm even more intimidated by this video's length, because it seems like there's going to be so much more to DeltaRune, and I am EXCITED for it

i always interpreted the “papyrus’s room has no music” to be like hanging out with the weird kid- there’s just a lot of awkward, unavoidable dead energy in the room.
I feel like he left out that it NEVER has music, even in the True Pacifist ending where "Reunited" plays everywhere in the underground, including other places without music.
@@anueutsuho7425 okay, that’s some good comedy right there. - Heartwarming music plays - (Enters room) *dead silence as you look into the room of a skeleton*
Gaster in fanon: A god like being that wants to destroy everything and reset the timeline. Gaster in Canon: Can I offer you a nice egg in these trying times?
Tbh, Gaster will probably end up helping us in Deltarune. I have a theory that the dark crystals you get from Jevil and Spamton are the fragments of Gaster's soul, as they both have encountered Gaster before. If you fet all of these by Chapter 7, Gaster appears. But that's just my theory. There is no evidence that Gaster had any sinister intentions, and built the Determination Machine to avoid having to kill another human.
There's a "Megalovania is the player's theme" theory in this, and I think I can support it. Battle themes only play when a fight begins. The theme doesn't start until Sans actually finishes his first attack. Of course, if it was Sans' theme, it would play when HE attacks, since it would be the start of the battle against him, but instead it only starts when you can actually fight, so it means it's the fight AGAINST you.
That might also be why “Song That Might Play When You Fight Sans” isn’t used in the game. You never really fight Sans because he’s the one fighting you.
@@blad3matt138 Keep in mind that's just stuff like merch and extras, not the actual game. Since Megalovania has been so related to Sans, it would make sense for Toby to just go along branding it that way, as to not confuse anyone. And as for "Bring it In Guys!", who is also there? You, the player, thus the megalovania theme.
Honestly, I'm glad that someone finally mentioned the loneliness in Undertale. After playing the game for long enough, you start feeling like you are truly alone. All the characters are not really your friends. They're Frisk's friends. You, as the player, are a separate entity, unaffected and in control of everything. I know that this is a feeling that happens with any game after playing it for long enough, as everything that happens in it starts to feel predictable and trivial. But all the meta aspects of Undertale make this feeling a lot stronger
The “Character Trapped In The Code” might be that *character you made at the the beginning of DELTARUNE* that got… *discarded.* 28/10/21 EDIT: By connecting the dots and investigating a little more, i figured it coud also be Dess Holiday. Maybe... She isn't dead. This is a theory by someone else, i don't remember their name, if i find them i'll credit them. The theory goes like this: Some years before DELTARUNE takes place, when Asgore was still on the police force, and was in patrol, Kris and Dess went to investigate something weird, that bunker at the bottom of town. A little after, Kris came back, screaming and crying. And Dess... Was nowhere to be found. This got Asgore removed from the police force, and what got him and Toriel divorced and explains the conflict between both families. Rudy is really good friends with Asgore and had forgiven him. But maybe Ms. Holiday didn't, and that'll be important in future chapters. I don't take credit from this theory, i do believe it could be true after investigating a little further on the lore and decided to post it here. This means Dess most probably fell into the Dark World, and can't escape, since Kris is the only one who can seal the fountains. I don't think she's the Knight though, i don't think that makes a lot of sense. I predict we'll get to see the bunker in the final chapters.
Mate, remember [[spoilers]] ° ° ° ° ° ° ° ° ° ° Spamton, when you speak with him in his shop, in his "clarity" episodes, asks if anyone hears him, and after he gets his NEO body, he rambles about wanting to be free and to see past the darkness. Also his glitchy nature may feel somewhere too. And Kris's breakdown after the fight, screaming and all. There's more to him than meets the eye.
Actually, to correct a small error, when controlling the heart during the Susie segment of Deltarune, normally the soul comes from Kris' chest, the place where the soul is located most of the time. But when controlling Susie, it comes from the top-right, which is the part of the screen where Kris and Ralsei's prison cell is located. Which means Kris' soul is leaving their body to help Susie during the fight.
@@Hithere-uz6wd They do need it to live. Why do you think they slump over when they take their soul out? It leaves them in an extremely weakened state, to be without their soul in their body. You'd think we would have no control over Kris by now if they could live without it.
@@ADMmachine If kris is the knight and we dont ever control the knight and im assuming the knight is able to move freely and stuff then im gonna guess its not kris's soul although who knows? Also NO monster or human can live without their soul period. Kris either has 2 or is a special case.
Some of these theories are pretty funny after playing Chapter 2. Great video though, interesting to see what all the speculation was a couple years ago.
It's hilarious how Toby managed to "foreshadow" chapter 2 in a way that players can make logical theories that do make sense, and then throw most of those theories away, in a logical way that does make sense.
Fr, I'm on the deltarune genocide entry. Speculating on killing monsters doesn't seem all to crazy now but it's cool to see it brought up when only chapter 1 existed
@@tech6hutch she is the character that was made from the spade queen tho I’m pretty sure. Also lancer calls her “a wild mom” and her and the king have had some form of a previous relationship (see: queenie beanie/kingy wingy). So it’s safe to assume that we won’t be getting an actual spade queen, and this is her revision.
My personal work around is the computer program Queen was based on had a digital Playing Card Game. Whether it was Poker, Solatare, Black Jack or any other card Game specifically is unknown.
@Cpaul Header the thing is, when the Queen called herself “Mom” to lancer, the King said “when’d you decide that?” Or something, to which the Queen said something like “Just now”.
Just gonna put this here: I'm pretty sure the "angel" in the prophecy is meant to be the Player, as angels themselves are neither good nor evil. You could see either the Pacifist or No-Mercy routes as "emptying the underground" in their own ways - Pacifist ending with you freeing everyone, and No-Mercy ending with you killing everyone. Even if a person or two gets left behind, it's still essentially empty, especially given just how big the whole place is. Frisk and Chara have no impact on this - it's up to you to decide whether they become "angels of mercy" or "angels of death" so to speak.

Fun fact, chara actually does behave differently when flowey begs them not to kill him. You have to press Z to kill flowey, which means Chara hesitated
No, you press Z to proceed the text box... then the attacks happen without your command. Chara is actually taking control from you who's hesitating, and beating flowey lifeless.
Well he does become Asriel, slightly when you are about to cut him down so i could see how he’d hesitate, but i do like the idea that he became so fucked up, and like a machine, that even if Asriel, was standing before us he’d still kill kid Azzy.
Fun(ny) Theory About Santa in the Underground: You might have noticed that many of the monsters in the underground are mythological creatures, just like Santa is. Maybe in the war, the humans fucked up and accidentally sealed the real Santa underground with the monsters?

They aren't wrong about chapter 1. You can attack with violence and not kill anything. Chapter 2 breaks the rule a tiny bit as Kris is incapable of killing any monsters just like chapter 1, but can use something else.
@@hougen8695 Some people said he's in the fallen state and will eventually fade into dust. We do not know of his fate in the light world as of chapter 2. Just that he's in a comatose state.
34:25 There's also a message in Deltarune's HTML source, that I found while checking for secrets during the C2 countdown: "dear armchair cryptographers, i know this isn't secure, but it's fast and all i care about is hotlink protection so people don't immediately eat the bandwidth bill in like an hour or something." Much less interesting lore-wise, but still cool to see a message directed at the readers
If I may propose an answer to “Santa’s existence in the Underground” at 1:28:23 There were 6 humans who fell before Frisk, it would make perfect sense for them to share the idea of Santa.
The origin story of the actual Saint Nicholas (respected member of the Christian church in Turkey) who gave gifts to the poor dates all the way back to 270 AD, so the monsters could've definitely heard about and understood the idea of generous old man giving gifts to the poor around Christmas time. Fun Fact: Saint Nicholas did a lot more than just giving gifts. He also rescued girls from brothels and reportedly punched a heretic in the middle of a church council meeting. Why can't we have more of that version of Santa at Christmas?
@@kiwibanana7590 - You'd be shocked how many people mistakenly believe that Sans is Santa, even though Asgore literally has a Santa outfit in his wardrobe.
2:32:46 this is impossible. Once sans leaves to “go to grillby’s” you can hear the sound of a monster disappearing to dust, implying that sans died before he even left the judgement hall
there's some extremely obscure theory about sans having 10 million health and we only dealt 9,999,999 damage so he lived on until chara erased the world
“The poopshitters, this line explains itself” NO. IT DOES NOT. Edit: this comment did well for some reason and I've really been procrastinating this so I finally looked up who the poopshitters are. wow.
If by any chance, if the audio files of Toby yelling whatever he felt like into a microphone to create Megalovania still exist, I really want to hear them
While Chara is abusive, I still hate how much they’re demonized in the community especially because most of their actions can be explained through obvious signs of abuse or corruption through the player in the genocide route 1:56:43
Yeah, it's frustrating that people often scapegoat chara as the sole driving force behind the genocide route instead of holding themselves accountable for the choice to do that route themselves. I'd argue, with the context of snowgrave in chapter 2, it's not hard to believe demon chara was a kind of shitty person who was driven completely off the deep end by the player giving them the impression that their only goal was to gain power. Idk, noelle being corrupted to literally murder her classmate in the name of achieving power through the manipulations of the player doesn't seem that far off from what could have happened to chara
i dont think its undeserved. manipulation and abuse of any kind is a monstrous thing to do, and nobody deserves forgiveness after manipulating someone. abusers, might be, but not manipulators. they dont have any empathy, love, or compassion, and nor they ever will obtain any, they can only pretend, and thus they forever will. as a victim of people with such intentions and characters traits, both manipulation and abuse, its unforgivable, saying that as a person who literally forgives EVERYONE everytime. even freaking murderers. i think that chara very much deserved to be competely demonized into being portrayed as a monster they, quite frankly, are. yes, they were pushed in the genocide route to be even more monstrous as they saw their "loved ones" being killed left and right(yet we dont know if they didnt kill others themself before they(chara) died, they might have had powers to save and load before they fell sick. they might have been the reason asriel acted so horrifically when he became flowey, gaining his adopted sibling's behavior traits as to mimic their behavior while doing what they did.) we only have their manipulatory behavior brought up about them, and their hatred for humanity, how they made fun of asriel for crying, etc., we dont see any other traits in their behavior ever brought up. being completely demonized on the internet after their death is the appropriate punishment for someone you cant slap on the face yourself.
i may sound like a psychopath but i really didn't like noelle bcs she was kinda annoying, so I really liked the SNOWGRAVE route. In a very weird way. can't change my mind 🤷♀️
Papyrus describing the pirate flag in his room "Undyne found it at the bay" could just be a reference/stealth pun to The Pirate Bay, a well-known torrent site.
That smile theory is... chilling. In Monster culture, when you're enraged or in pain, you smile, just like how people frown & cry when they're sad irl. All the Amalgamates in Alphys' lab are smiling because it's all they have left. Anguish and anger. Edit: That bleeding Froggit from FNAF 2 is named "Mike"? Like the guy Spamton blames for ruining his plans in Deltarune 2?
I think that at the end of chapter 2, when we see the smile on the screen, that's Mike. Spamton said dont trust the guy "Mike" on tv. Maybe Mike is a tv monster using advertisements to trick and hurt people. Maybe Spamton saw Mike on tv and blames him for ruining his life and tells you not to trust him.
43:31 This actually might be a reference to Flowey. Most people forget when it comes to this, but if you backtrack in certain parts of the game, you’ll see Flowey quickly disappear [burrowing underground]. So I think the ‘creepy smile’ line could be a reference to Flowey, especially because the smiler disappears after you notice them (just like Flowey)
36:15 I've always had a feeling Papyrus knew more than he let on. When you go to Sans' room he asks if Sans was pranking him through time and space, saying he hates it when he does that like it's a somewhat common thing.
BRO SAME I feel like papyrus acts so naive on PURPOSE when he actually knows way more than he’s leading everyone to believe (mainly the player and flowey, and who knows, maybe Undyne and sans?)
For the whole Santa thing, it literally could just be that Chara told monsters (Asgore specifically) about Santa, being that it is an incredibly big tradition through SO many cultures. Even more widespread with Chara presumably being from the 2010's.
And considering that Chara fell in the 2010s, there would be a ton of time for old Santa and Christmas merchandise to drift underground. The landfills in the Underground are basically gateways into the surface world's culture.
12:59 For those unaware, The Poopshitters are a "band" that makes "bad" covers of music, mostly Undertale/Deltarune related alongside other OST from indie games such as FNaF, DDLC and more.
2:39:59 Knowing the Snowgrave route now exists, this has a bit more context. Although, she's not wearing her dark world clothing, but that might just be to hide her appearance and avoid spoilers
Maybe the reason Noelle is in her Light world outfit is because of an easter egg in the SnowGrave route. If in the Dark World, you take Noelles watch and put it on Kris, then when Noelle leaves Rudy's Hospital room, you follow her out, there is a secret cutscene. (Its to note that the cutscene is just a black screen with the text box and no text box sprites.) In the cutscene, you are able to walk, to what is implied to be closer to Noelle, which may be why she is on the floor in the sticker. In this cutscene she also pretty much says the same thing the sticker has her say, as well as another sticker not shown in this video where she looks scared and says "H-Huh?"(she only says that if Kris is wearing her watch in the cutscene however). So i believe thats where the aaa sorry for monologuing-😭
I like to imagine Gaster is a red herring, we built him up so much on very little that were ignoring the danger right in front of us. Gaster will turn out to be a janitor. Edit: Hey dosent rules card look alot like Gaster with a wig?
Isn't "the friend with a creepy smile" Flowey? That seemed like the most obious answer to me. Why reach that it's Gaster or Chara when Flowey follows you through the game, has a creepy smile and is "your best friend"
The most morally evil route in Undertale: Toriel kills you. Sure, genocide has you killing them all, but at least its over for toriel once you kill her. If you intentionally throw yourself into Toriel's attacks, you get to give her mental anguish that she has to suffer through alone for the next hundreds of years of her life :D
@@chich-ai or... Asgore killing himself to free Frisk wishing that they would go on to free Asgore... Asgore's gone, Frisk won't come back, the monsters have lost all hope, this is all of the monsters not just one...
I don't know if this has been done before, but I have a theory that Ralsei is actually the green crayon in the light world. I guess it's a pretty big reach, but it kinda makes sense? In the beginning of chapter 1, when we interact with the cabinets in the hall outside Kris's bedroom, it says there is a box of crayons inside, but there is no green crayon. When we go to the Dark World, we see Ralsei in a green outfit with a green pointy hat, kind of like how a green crayon looks like, right? Idk, I just noticed this a few days ago while playing it and this is just my thoughts on it. Let me know if you guys want to add onto this!
@@silentchatterbox52 i always personally thought they were the horns that toriel describes kris used to wear, mentioning a pink tint and ralsei's horns are tinted pink in his sprite in chapter 2/without his hat. i think it would add some ground to stand on since he would maybe know things about kris since he may have known them for a while and describes "being alone for a while," due to toriel asking where it went? i think it's a common theory but i personally like it.
You know, I kind of expected the “Bedtime Story” theory or entry to be on here. For those who don’t know, in the soundtrack, the first song is called “Once Upon A Time,” and the final song is called “Good Night.” Leaving the implications that the *entirety of Undertale* was a child’s bedtime story. Given how the game makes almost every character like-able, how it pretty much teaches about friendship and generally gives a happy ending (if you chose Pacifist), this would make sense. Genocide could possibly be the “nightmare” scenario, where they imagine something awful as everyone dying while trying to be nice to them; being slaughtered by the child. It’d make sense as to why sans is the final boss in genocide. In the other stories, he’s mysteriously powerful, able to stop time and teleport. So they’d fear what happens when we see his “bad side.” From the looks of things, deltarune is about “imagination,” given how the characters go into a dark closet that has a bunch of items that end up being characters, items, and set pieces for the “Dark World.” Perhaps this is all meant to tackle the idea of childish aspects being main focuses of the game. Undertale is you being told a bedtime story, and Deltarune is you growing up, but still holding some childish qualities, like imaging entire worlds, stories, etc. just from the things around you. Just some food for thought. Edit: Apparently in chapter 2 they mention how magic only exists in the Dark World, so that’s more evidence that Undertale is a bed time story as it used fantasy elements, one of which being magic.
@@screm1471 Dude did you not read the post above? Like, deltarune would be after the bedtime story aka undertale, them just errantly imagining things, and that would be another theoretical nightmare scenario I suppose
i just finished chapter 2 and the onion-san thing only left me with more questions!! they said they hear voices singing in the ocean and once again asks kris to return the next day. im sooo insanely curious about it
17:44 Okay, but imagine how hilarious it is that sans doesn't wear shoes unless he's fighting you and he only fights you if you kill off everyone else. Like, this guy is about to beat you to pieces but before he does he says "wait a minute, I have to get my slippers on."
Actually his sleepers were white but because toby Fox looked at fandom shit and he found out that fandom made sans sleepers pink, he decided to make it canon because it was better
Interesting how Chara, and Kris both use the word proceed within the genocide routes within the game, Chara telling the player not too proceed, and Kris telling Noelle to proceed during the Snowgrave route
Wasn't ,,Chara''s quote : ,,There is a reason you continue to proceed in this word. There is a reason you continue to recreate it. You are wracked whit a perverted sentimentality ." In the 2nd ,, Genocide " rought in a row.
Yea, when he mentioned stickers that seemed to mention plot details, that IMMEDIATELY caught my attention. Either this is referencing snow grave, or a hint at CH.3
now THIS is how you make an iceberg. I'm sure you could've gone on and on about dramas in the community or other things of a nasty variety, like the madness combat iceberg. But you managed to stick it out and make a 3 hour video about things only relating to the game. Well done.
The soul colors in undertale are actually quite smart. provided we're using RYB as the primary colors (red yellow blue) then all the in between colors make sense. for example, red and yellow yields orange. Red - Determination Orange - Bravery Yellow - Justice then, red and blue makes purple Red - Determination Purple - Perseverance Blue - Patience Green without the yellow is blue, since green is a combo of yellow and blue Green - Kindness Yellow - Justice Blue - Patience and by the orange attacks explanation example Stoplight is Red Yellow Green Red - Determination Yellow - Justice this makes Orange - Bravery And to avoid getting hit by orange attacks, you must be moving. Show BRAVERY in that you are not afraid and run into it. Genius. Impeccable thought put into it, or a very clever coincidence. edit: i get it cyan =/= blue but like how does integrity + justice = bravery fam
43:21 I often imagine it being Flowey like you mentioned I think in the first iceberg that Flowey stalks the player, a smile is prominent on him and I could imagine it being that Frisk looks behind without player input and Flowey retreats before you see him as why he disappears.
"In this land, only eyes blinded by darkness can see the way" Two things come to mind here: -The shadow crystals, earned by beating Jevil and Spamton. You can use them, which makes you put it up to your eye, apparently granting you a brief glimpse into the real world (using after Jevil, you briefly see a room full of toys, after Spamton, the computer lab) -Spamton himself, apparently wants to become "big" enough to "see past the dark," a phrase which could imply that Spamton, and by extension all the other darkners, are in some way blinded by the darkness they live in There's probably a theory to be made out of this, but I can't quite think of it
I have a theory that once you get every shadow crystal it makes a thing that can allow darkners to go to the light world without turning into inanimate objects. And when spamton says he wants to see past the dark he probably means that he wants to go to the light world.
i used the crystal at the bunker in chapter 2 and it said that I saw Suzie smiling back. Theres other text but I don't remember it all. I also don't know if those lines of text appear elsewere.
@@velvasthecrossfox I think that line is more of a joke, because in the light world it's just a piece of glass, and you see Suzie because you're just looking at her through it
Something I noticed is most of the main characters such as Kris, Ralsei, Susie and Lancer have hidden eyes but you can still get to see them at some point in the game Maybe that means something? 🤔
For anyone who wants to check the alarm clock apps winter dialogue, i’d recommend reading it in a certain order, flowey, toriel, asgore, as there’s a small over arching story that pays off best in that specific order, also yes, sans did canonically do a defualt dance in undynes dialogue
Just finished delturne chapter 2 and at the beginning when you check out lancer's description he says that he is a tough boy, and can be treated as one of your items. This is a reference to earthbound where the exit mice have a very similar description.
Also, just came to back to this vid and personally I think the "Castletown is fake" theory is a little more innocent than that. I think that Ralsei is just extremely lonely and wants to feel better by surrounding himself with this "town", kinda like Toriel in the Ruins or Asgore in New Home. I think they even referred to him as "the lonely prince" once, so it makes sense for him to fake socialisation when he can't get one. He's also somewhat desperate for attention when you first encounter him, with him constantly reminding Kris&Susie to read his manual if they have any troubles, deciding to stick with them even when he could just dip out or observe them from the distance. The problem is though, why is he lonely in the first place? Were there not darkners before Kris and Susie dropped down? If there were, why won't they associate with Ralsei? This whole Dark World is weird and reminds me of White Space from Omori, an escapist dream of sorts.
ch2 makes ralsei even more suspicious. Im pretty sure he isnt malicious, but hes definitely hiding a lot. how did he get to the other fountain? lancer and rouxls become harmless playing cards in the light world, and ralsei looks too much like asriel (or who we know to be asriel from undertale) for it to not be suspicious
@@skapaloka222 yeah, it's very weird that Ralsei doesn't seem to have a real-life counterpart, doesn't even feel uncomfortable in other Dark Worlds and I just now realized that almost no one acknowledges his existence. Enemies target him very rarely and characters like the Queen only acknowledge him like once. I'm not sure what role he plays in the Dark World, but he's definitely extremely powerful for someone who's supposedly just a Prince, while King and Queen don't have these powers.
@@wvwnt There's a theory his real life counterpart may be Kris's headband from childhood, not sure how Kris would hide it from the players view when looking at your items though. This would also explain how he's fine in other Dark Worlds, because he isn't technically a Darkner as he originates from the real world. The speculation these chapters seem to drum up never ceases to excite me, it's great.
@@joeneedsfood I'm pretty sure Kris can hide some things from the player, because as far as I remember Kris didn't have any knives in their inventory at any given time (the swords don't count as they are metaphors for real-life objects), however they pull one out at the ends of both chapters. I feel like Kris is either a lot more malicious than the player is, or a lot more indifferent (they seemingly don't really care about Ralsei or don't want to show it and you cannot control them when they (I assume) go to damage Toriel's car), and they take more from Chara than from Frisk.
@@wvwnt Kris definitely has some thing's hidden from us. But what confuses me is that they clearly weren't a malicious person before we took control of them, but now it seems they have become evil in some way? Maybe the Knight took control of them at the same time as the player did, which is why they make the dark fountain at the end of chapter 2, and when he rips the soul out, that's player and the Knight wrestling for control? There must be some external force messing with him though other than us, that's for sure.
2:46:05 Interestingly enough, Noelle in the Pipis Route of Chapter 2 actually just straight up kills an NPC while out of combat. This is, to my knowledge, the first time a non-player character can be killed outside of combat, and it's a bit interesting that this occasion is a result of the player's actions manipulating another character into doing something they cannot do themselves. A lot of odd things like that happen in this route.
That NPC apparently shows up at the end of the game at the castle town though, it could be an oversight considering castle town in snowgrave is the same as neutral for the most part.

59:56 In all fairness, spiders have been known to practice cannibalism; Black widow spiders are known to eat their mates, and wolf spiders are known to eat their own offspring.
OK, I want to preface this by saying that I love all the hard work that clearly went into making this, and that the whole thing with Asriel being abused is extremely important, and I don't intend for a second to discredit it. But, that being said, I do want to make one small clarification regarding your next-to-last point about it. It's important to remember that Chara is not always the name Flowey says in the "please don't reset" scene. It's not like he's programmed to always say the same name, that name will be the name you typed in at the beginning of the game. Chances are, for most first-time players, that name will be their own name or a pseudonym they often use in games. I don't think he's trying to talk to CHARA, as in the first Human. I think he's trying to talk to YOU, the player, and the game simply uses the name you chose because Toby wasn't able to do any weird Doki Doki shit like having Monika read your Steam name. Still, once again, I want to point out that this video was incredibly well-done, and you deserve all the praise in the world for it.
Now that chapter 2 is out, that "can i speak to G..." Probably refers to Spamton G Spamton. As Spamton got many calls from a mysterious man that helped him. This might even be the opposite and the caller is spamton calling gaster by the G mentioned in the call. Although these theories might be a stretch, it is possible.
1:06:40 Mettaton also says that "Didn't you learn the rules like 50 rooms ago?" (or something along those lines idk i forgot) if you ask him to say the rules in the hotland puzzle place, he knows you learned the rules because he was literally right there listening LMAO
Spiders are one of the animals species that are kneon to be commonly cannibalistic, also to be fair there is like no bugs to eat in the underground apparently or at least very little
The "friend with a creepy smile," mentioned in that unused room is almost definitely Flowey, since you can see him behind you in certain rooms throughout the game
Isn’t the one behind you with the creepy smile just a reference to the fact that flowey is following you around just off screen, And when you try to see him he quickly hides under the ground.
this is most likely a hint to the next big bad guy from chapter 3, and i'm sure that the next world will be television-themed (since the third fountain was created in a room near TV, much like previous fountains were created in a room with boardgames and servers)
Watching these videos from before chapter 2 came out is fantastic. I love the comments on the stickers especially. That one with Noelle was definitely foreshadowing snow grave
43:06 it's probably Flowey who is canonically following you in game. If you backtrack in certain areas you may even catch him. Also Flowey is usually smiling and his overworld sprite is always smiling.
thats true, but i was also thinking about the deltarune smile sprite which is called “image friend” and it appears behind kris when they move….. idk its just something i noticed
I only played Undertale after the blue attack change, and I as a colourblind person would definitely not have noticed the previous shade of blue. Thanks Toby!
About why alphys "didn't" warn asgore... I believe that it went a different way. Let me explain. Basically, when undyne fails to kill the human, alphys immediately gives a signal to mettaton to warn asgore since probably theres no way phone signals can go through the core. Mettaton then assesses the situation. If he tells asgore that the human is coming and needs to be stopped, asgore will absorb the six souls, prepare with whatever has remained of the monsterkind, and wreck the human, leading to the destruction of humanity, mettatons dream audience. If he doesn't warn asgore however, the human will kill everyone remaining, resulting in the complete destruction of the monsterkind and mettaton will be (probably) locked underground without any way of leaving. So in order to save both sides, he instead chooses not to warn the king but take the human on by himself. If he succeeds, he can leave the underground and find himself a new audience, while preventing the seventh soul from ever falling into the underground. Perhaps thats why he acts so heroic in genocide. He sees himself as the only hope remaining for the future of the world. Edit: To clarify something here, phone signals don't work in the core as we can see how we can't call undyne and papyrus in the core and how they say their goodbyes to us if we try to call them right before entering the core in pacifist/neutral. Alphys calls us before the mettaton ex fight though. That might be because she is right behind us, waiting to enter the room and "defeat" mettaton and be our self inserted hero. This is specifically said by mettaton in the game before he locks the door we came in and alphys is stuck on the other side, which is when she calls us, telling us to press the switch behind mettaton. This phone call maybe means that you can call someone from inside the core as long as they are inside the core as well. Or she has a phone with special properties that get past the cores interference of the phone signals being jammed. I don't really know how phones work in undertale, this theory is definitely up for interpretation. Maybe phones work with magic. Maybe there are cell towers all around the underground that we don't see in the game and one inside the core that alphys uses to call us right then.
Tbh I just thought that Alphys committed suicide shortly after Undyne was struck down. Alphys always had a thing for Undyne and they were friends long before the main game events. She was also extremely wracked with guilt over the amalgam incident and likely suffered from depression. It was only with the help of Undyne and the human that she was able to get out of that depression, but in this timeline, Undyne was just killed right in front of her and by the human no less. There is no Undyne, there is no Frisk, there is no escape from her inner torment. There is also a theory floating around that Sans disrupted the call between Alphys and Asgore because he wanted to truly beat the human and player by killing them so many times over that their frustration surpassed the completionist’s need and convince them to quit the game, or reset and do a pacifist run.
Ιceberg videos give me an uneasy feeling but it's also a little comforting watching them at the same time. Especially for deep games like Undertale and Deltarune. Great video! (btw D isn't the greek letter for 4, it's the fourth letter in the alphabet hehe)
2:14:49 Speaking of Deltarune AUs, I'm surprised that one, Paper Trail, somewhat accurately predicted the thing about different parts of Hometown getting Dark World segments
Well, they said KRIS, not US. So he can't charge us for mental abuse, and has to charge Kris instead! TAKE THAT, LEGALISTS! Now if you excuse me, I have a flight for Cancun, as I plan to flee there to avoid any vigilantes.
The "your really eager to die, aren't you?" Reminds me of older calamity mod versions where calamitas, after dying and coming back a few times says: "do you have a fetish for dying or something" in a sans like fashion
@@snorange14 They say it was "a pain in the ass," so I'm assuming it took them a long long time. Even though a fair bit of deltarune iceberg facts/theories have since become outdated, there's a lot of information from these games that's still relevant. It seems like it would be a waste to redo a bunch of sections of an already difficult video and postpone it rather than just make an update video later on after chapter 2 has been analyzed and there's new things to correct/discuss.
I bet you Papyrus is the Knight, though. We never see him, even in Chapter 2, because he's busy creating dark worlds. Why would Papyrus do that? In Undertale, his core motivation is to become a part of the Royal Guard, which doesn't exist in Deltarune. Instead, he plays out his fantasy of being a Royal Guard (or more generally, A KNIGHT) with his actions figures in his room. In fact, he specifies that he plays with them in Undertale to re-enact battle scenes. Just like how Kris and Susie enjoy how the toys in the old classroom come to life in the Dark World, Papyrus probably has some friends in the form of the action figures in their Darkner forms. This explains why he stays inside all the time and has no friends in DR, because he's busy in his own Dark World... Naturally, he wants more friends to join him, so he creates more Dark Fountains around the town in hopes that he can share this experience with others. After all, Papyrus has a very compassionate attitude in UT and generally performs deeds for the good of those around him, even though he is a bit misguided about it. In DR Chapter 2, there's a closet in the computer lab where the Dark World was created. The description says that "a large person could fit inside." We know that the Knight must've hid in the closet to create the Dark Fountain for the main protagonists without the library staff knowing. In Undertale, Papyrus says this about his own closet: "There are no skeletons in my closet, except for me sometimes!" Coincidence? I think NOT! Finally, this ties well into the "Papyrus has less backstory than Gaster" part of the iceberg (which was a hilarious revelation, I have to say; thanks for sharing). DR is supposed to be the inverse or rearranged version of UT. While UT took a deep dive into the character of Sans, I think that DR will focus on Papyrus. Likewise, the statue of the main human protagonists seems to reflect this. Frisk and Chara are both roughly the height of Sans, while Kris is noticeably taller and thinner, perhaps pointing towards the taller, thinner skeleton brother. This also makes sense from a narrative perspective, and Toby could write a character arc connecting Kris's and Papyrus's shared loneliness and desire for more friends. Sorry for the essay, but I think this is a REALLY interesting theory that could actually work very well.
@@snorange14 - Thanks. I know it doesn't explain EVERYTHING, but I don't think it's nearly as far out as "Everyman" being the Knight. Here's why I don't think Kris is the Knight: ua-cam.com/video/x9fP2nIxZGY/v-deo.html
7:59 With the release of Chapter 2, I think this character might just be the character that Spamton G. Spamton turns into on two different occasions when he breaks out of character. On both occasions, he stops shouting, and his punctuation is fully corrected. He says something along the lines of "can anyone hear me? it's so dark..." with his eyes static before he regains character. This is very similar to the unused dialogue mentioned in the video. idk tho, just a hunch i have ALSO after the SPAMTON NEO fight, you can talk to the six Addisons in the Trash Area, who state something along the lines of "after he (Spamton) found someone to help him, he was on the phone all day, and his dream of becoming a [[BIG SHOT!!!]] were finally accomplished." The Wrong Number Song asks for the person G on a phone. You might see the connection...
Yeah I was thinking this too, him being a spam account, with spam often being attributed to viruses and the like, would make sense with him having a means to be connected to whoever is trapped inside the code. Maybe the person latched onto his code or something and they break through him every now and then. Each of the times that person seems to break through Spamton his eyes go all staticy, like as if he isn’t himself or even vacant. Of course, that’s all speculation though.
@@abanananotanorange5023 thing is we've already had a reference to Gaster with Seam saying it. In this case it matches almost perfectly with whoever is trapped inside the code of the game as they both mention it being "dark... so dark". 43:23 this is most likely Flowey as they are seen following the player and disappearing (into the ground) whenever the players sees them or turns around in the ruins and a few other places. Also, flowey is the only one to have the most “scary face” sprites for the laugh and all the sprites during dialog, which may also indivate that they are referring to flowey in this dialog.
1:06:00 my favorite headcannon is that flowey fucked with Temmie and told her how saving and resetting works, and since theyre not a threat, and no one takes them seriously, Flowey either left them with that knowledge just to torture them, or just straight up forgot to reset

For the spider cannibalism thing, female spiders often eat their mates and from what I heard spiders aren't opposed to eating other spiders if the times get desperate.
This comment is only tangentially related to the actual content of the video, but I want to sincerely thank you for the way you handled the """controversial""" topics like gender and abuse. A lot of people in your position would have said some dismissive or outright cruel things, but you didn't, and that means a lot. Thank you.
Well, Christmas wasn't part of monster culture before they were trapped underground. The bear at the Christmas tree in Snowdin explains that a group of teens were bullying a monster by putting decorations on him. Since the monster (Giftrot) loves getting gifts, it ended up becoming tradition to put presents under a decorated tree as a sort of peace offering.
I kinda thought the joke was that they go out of their way to explain how Christmas would come to exist but intentionally just don’t explain Santa? There’s no way Toby would feel the need to explain Christmas but forget Santa, especially considering how soon after Santa is mentioned by papyrus.
On my first Deltarune playthrough, i didn't even know how fast i got through the mainworld. I just sped to the DarkWorld by accident, got the Wrist Protector and proceeded to speed through. Like, had no clue this was an Easter egg. Just went through head empty goin fast
Ngl some of these are massive reaches. For example, the “everyone” Flowey says is probably just referring to Monsters and Humans in one collective group
In reference to the “how do monsters know about Santa” thing- I think it’s safe to assume that Asgore and Toriel were the king and queen of monsters before the war that drove them underground, as neither of them are surprised by the sight at the end of the true pacifist run. Asgore has a Santa costume in his closet, and is mentioned by Sans in the PS4 version of Undertale to walk around on Christmas Eve to give monsters presents. He probably just thinks it’s a nice tradition and has been keeping up the Santa facade for hundreds of years now (Boss Monsters do not grow old and die unless they have a living child, and as Asriel is dead, Asgore and Toriel will probably live forever).
@@Blandy8521most likely not at all, as flowey is made of pure determination that just happened to cause asriel to reincarnate due to his dust, also the reason monsters can die of old age after having a child is because they gave a portion of that child their magic, if that child dies the magic goes back to them, so if flowey effected their aging they’d probably feel that he’s alive somehow
2:32:25 I can easily see sans after the fight with him, just teleporting to snowdin, limping along when he notices the sign, chuckles to himself, and takes it somewhere else thinking “this’ll be funny” before he turns to dust
What I think the toriel file where she could've committed suicide was that, if you spared her in a genocide route, she would've killed herself either way. Or maybe if you killed her in a neutral route, went back and spared her, she would've just killed herself again. Or if you got her really low and spared her at her last health point.
I ultimately don't think Mettaton paid for Muffet to fight you -- I think it was Gaster, or "the player". As we know, Muffet is a kickstarter reward -- literally, someone paid a lot of money for her to fight you. Additionally, Muffet's like "I swore I saw them in the darkness changing shape...?" doesn't fit with Mettaton, since the first time Mettaton changes shape publicly is during your fight with him ("You're desperate for the premier of my new body."). Now that we've got Deltarune chapter 2, we also know Spamton's battle music contains a bit of Muffet's theme sprinkled in. Interesting!!
Muffet's theme has bits of napstablooks theme in it this is also true of mad dummy which is a ghost in a dummy. Mettaton also has links to napstablook which would connect muffet to mettaton and the ghost dummy can link to spamton who makes many references to being a puppet on a string
The “friend standing behind you with a creepy smile” is more likely Flowey than Gaster or Chara if you ask me. It makes sense to say that Gaster and Chara follow the player, sure, but Flowey demonstrably is following them in a literal sense.

Gaster is more like:
Yep nothing, we literally have no information of him other than he “fell on his own creation”
Also, Sans has his own leitmotif already.
That might also be why “Song That Might Play When You Fight Sans” isn’t used in the game. You never really fight Sans because he’s the one fighting you.
no... its vriskas theme XD
@@tiredcrab5659 no its tavros' theme obviously smh
@@blad3matt138 Keep in mind that's just stuff like merch and extras, not the actual game. Since Megalovania has been so related to Sans, it would make sense for Toby to just go along branding it that way, as to not confuse anyone.

Yea, they stop feeling like friends and more like vessels to tell jokes (except napstablook, he will always be a friend...)

The “Character Trapped In The Code” might be that *character you made at the the beginning of DELTARUNE* that got… *discarded.*
28/10/21 EDIT: By connecting the dots and investigating a little more, i figured it coud also be Dess Holiday.
Omg that’s actually genius-

Spamton, when you speak with him in his shop, in his "clarity" episodes, asks if anyone hears him, and after he gets his NEO body, he rambles about wanting to be free and to see past the darkness. Also his glitchy nature may feel somewhere too. And Kris's breakdown after the fight, screaming and all. There's more to him than meets the eye.
Anyways i dont got chap1 on my computer so
It wouldnt work bcz i never made em
Actually, to correct a small error, when controlling the heart during the Susie segment of Deltarune, normally the soul comes from Kris' chest, the place where the soul is located most of the time. But when controlling Susie, it comes from the top-right, which is the part of the screen where Kris and Ralsei's prison cell is located.
Which means Kris' soul is leaving their body to help Susie during the fight.
It also means that kris and ralsei were left alone. Soooo ralsei probably knows more than he’s leading on…
@@NimziOP they're pretty much the same. Which is why you can control the soul in the birdcage. Ralsei can heal, he was probably keeping Kris alive
Lavender man its not kris’s soul... they dont need it to live its just what lets YOU the player control kris
Holy moly
It's hilarious how Toby managed to "foreshadow" chapter 2 in a way that players can make logical theories that do make sense, and then throw most of those theories away, in a logical way that does make sense.
Fr, I'm on the deltarune genocide entry. Speculating on killing monsters doesn't seem all to crazy now but it's cool to see it brought up when only chapter 1 existed
I like how the spade queen is in the abyss here when only a week later she’s fully canon.
She’s really not a spade queen tho
@@tech6hutch she is the character that was made from the spade queen tho I’m pretty sure. Also lancer calls her “a wild mom” and her and the king have had some form of a previous relationship (see: queenie beanie/kingy wingy). So it’s safe to assume that we won’t be getting an actual spade queen, and this is her revision.
My personal work around is the computer program Queen was based on had a digital Playing Card Game.
Whether it was Poker, Solatare, Black Jack or any other card Game specifically is unknown.

There were 6 humans who fell before Frisk, it would make perfect sense for them to share the idea of Santa.
Well seven if you include chara but i get whatcha mean
The origin story of the actual Saint Nicholas (respected member of the Christian church in Turkey) who gave gifts to the poor dates all the way back to 270 AD, so the monsters could've definitely heard about and understood the idea of generous old man giving gifts to the poor around Christmas time.
Fun Fact: Saint Nicholas did a lot more than just giving gifts. He also rescued girls from brothels and reportedly punched a heretic in the middle of a church council meeting. Why can't we have more of that version of Santa at Christmas?

This actually might be a reference to Flowey.

Yeah I was thinking that same thing!!
could also be that santa was a thing even before the monsters were sealed underground

In the cutscene, you are able to walk, to what is implied to be closer to Noelle, which may be why she is on the floor in the sticker. I don't know if this has been done before, but I have a theory that Ralsei is actually the green crayon in the light world. I guess it's a pretty big reach, but it kinda makes sense?
So they’d fear what happens when we see his “bad side.”
From the looks of things, deltarune is about “imagination,” given how the characters go into a dark closet that has a bunch of items that end up being characters, items, and set pieces for the “Dark World.”
Perhaps this is all meant to tackle the idea of childish aspects being main focuses of the game.
Aww!! That's actually a really cute theory, and goes well with the 'aging up' of the mc too!
Pretty fucked up bedtime story 😂
Kris is the child. Toriel is so comforting, she likely gives kris bedtime stories.

The soul colors in undertale are actually quite smart.
provided we're using RYB as the primary colors (red yellow blue) then all the in between colors make sense.
for example, red and yellow yields orange.
Red - Determination
Orange - Bravery
Yellow - Justice
then, red and blue makes purple
Red - Determination
Purple - Perseverance
Blue - Patience
Green without the yellow is blue, since green is a combo of yellow and blue
Green - Kindness
Yellow - Justice
Blue - Patience
and by the orange attacks explanation example
Stoplight is Red Yellow Green
Red - Determination
Yellow - Justice
this makes
Orange - Bravery
And to avoid getting hit by orange attacks, you must be moving. Show BRAVERY in that you are not afraid and run into it.
Genius. Impeccable thought put into it, or a very clever coincidence.
edit: i get it cyan =/= blue but like how does integrity + justice = bravery fam
It's cyan that's patience, not blue
Blue is integrity
Yeah this is probably a coincidence given how many games use blue and orange to signify different attacks

43:21 I often imagine it being Flowey like you mentioned I think in the first iceberg that Flowey stalks the player, a smile is prominent on him and I could imagine it being that Frisk looks behind without player input and Flowey retreats before you see him as why he disappears.
"In this land, only eyes blinded by darkness can see the way"
Two things come to mind here:
-The shadow crystals, earned by beating Jevil and Spamton. You can use them, which makes you put it up to your eye, apparently granting you a brief glimpse into the real world (using after Jevil, you briefly see a room full of toys, after Spamton, the computer lab)
-Spamton himself, apparently wants to become "big" enough to "see past the dark," a phrase which could imply that Spamton, and by extension all the other darkners, are in some way blinded by the darkness they live in
There's probably a theory to be made out of this, but I can't quite think of it
I have a theory that once you get every shadow crystal it makes a thing that can allow darkners to go to the light world without turning into inanimate objects.
And when spamton says he wants to see past the dark he probably means that he wants to go to the light world.
i used the crystal at the bunker in chapter 2 and it said that I saw Suzie smiling back. Theres other text but I don't remember it all. I also don't know if those lines of text appear elsewere.

Yeah I was thinking that too
OK, I want to preface this by saying that I love all the hard work that clearly went into making this, and that the whole thing with Asriel being abused is extremely important, and I don't intend for a second to discredit it.

Maybe there are cell towers all around the underground that we don't see in the game and one inside the core that alphys uses to call us right then.
... OH SHI-
That explains a lot actually wow
Wow *claps*
Alphys calls you in the core
(btw D isn't the greek letter for 4, it's the fourth letter in the alphabet hehe)

i wonder why they decided to post this video knowing chapter 2 was almost here
@@snorange14 They say it was "a pain in the ass," so I'm assuming it took them a long long time.

This is very similar to the unused dialogue mentioned in the video. idk tho, just a hunch i have
ALSO after the SPAMTON NEO fight, you can talk to the six Addisons in the Trash Area, who state something along the lines of "after he (Spamton) found someone to help him, he was on the phone all day, and his dream of becoming a [[BIG SHOT!!!]] were finally accomplished." The Wrong Number Song asks for the person G on a phone.

The Wingding translation for egg actually blew me away, that is one of the most Toby things I've ever seen.
The Santa thing is explained easily by the fact that the monsters weren't always underground.
And the 7 Humans might have spoken about it too..
@@Kairos_Akuma Maybe, but since they were pretty hated I don't think the celebration would be as widespread as it is.

I wonder how Flowey's situation would affect their aging
@@Blandy8521most likely not at all, as flowey is made of pure determination that just happened to cause asriel to reincarnate due to his dust, also the reason monsters can die of old age after having a child is because they gave a portion of that child their magic, if that child dies the magic goes back to them, so if flowey effected their aging they’d probably feel that he’s alive somehow
2:32:25 I can easily see sans after the fight with him, just teleporting to snowdin, limping along when he notices the sign, chuckles to himself, and takes it somewhere else thinking “this’ll be funny” before he turns to dust
I think he says "you're not welcome here anymore" in one of the neutral routes.
He literally removed the WELCOME sign from Snowdin...
