Thanks for sharing this Video. Keep watching it almost everyday since last week. It makes me cry too. She is very beautiful and charismatic. I wish i was in that time when women dress like real women and talk like real women.
Thank you, Conkyjoe for memorializing this time...Rick ultimately had a special place in his heart for Patty! (...Susan Levine AKA Susie Watson...Rick Shaw Show)
It was GREAT to grow up back then. I would not trade my teenage years in the 50's and early 60's for anything even though I am now an oldie myself. Love the music of that era. She is a real cutie and her clothes are just what I wore my freshman year in college.
I'll set the record straight. I was the director of the Rick Shaw Show and Saturday Hop when Patty was around, her surname is: B E N S O N. Take it to the bank.
@conkyjoe Thanks again for doing this, Conky. It takes me back to those days at Thomas Jefferson that I shared with Patty. I try to ignore the rude and vulgar comments launched at her. She was actually a very sweet young lady. I would love to see more. Take care.
Most of you commenters have TOTALLY missed the point. This was a teen and pre-teen TV show in the 60's in South Florida. Rick Shaw was the host, and he was - and is -a legend. To be chosen to lip-sync a song on his show was the coolest thing that could happen. Made you a celebrity at your school! No one was trying to steal music or pretend they were the original artist. It was just pure fun before the days of karaoke. And Rick Shaw was absolutely the furthest thing from being creepy - he was the nicest guy in South Florida, never a hint of impropriety.
Nice try Heidi St. louis, It's a sick world we live in now. I grew up in Lauderdale and these were the best of times for us. You may know, Rick, passed away, breaks my heart, he was for sure a great man. I feel bad for kids today who have to live with petty small minds.
Patty was great - people made a big deal -how many people copied elvis, beatles and other artists - its what happens in the music industry -- its a compliment to the artist
Thank you Heidi. I was one of those lucky enough to do lip syncs for Rick's morning show and he was the best of the best - a good guy to the end. He even showed one of my lip syncs to the artist (Lulu) and she thought it was great fun. I'm glad we grew up in a more innocent time.
I can't believe I'm watching this! I went to Thomas Jefferson. Patty was one of my classmates. Sweet girl! She and Nilda Rice (one of the dancers in Conky's Lou Christie videos), did a lot of great lipsyncs to the old Petula Clark and Sandy Posey songs as well. Rick Shaw (the show host in this video, also a beloved local DJ), actually bloopered once on his radio show, introducing the latest song by Petula as being by Patty. LOL U.W.
I haven't seen or heard from her in the past 40 yrs. since I graduated H.S., 68. Then again, I really haven't kept in touch with most of my old classmates. U.W.

It sounds like her name is Pat BenTON, not Pat BenSON. I have watched this numerous times and that's the way it sounds. She was a regular on "The Rick Shaw Show", a popular local morning TV show in Miami. I believe this was her first appearance. She made an art out of lip-synching, particularly Petula Clark songs. I always thought her last name was Benson but now I'm not sure. Patty, if you're out there and read this, set the record straight for us. Love these old Miami television posts!
The dress style with the white collar she is wearing was popular around 1965. I remember seeing both Dusty Springfield and Petula Clark wearing a similar dress around the same time.
Well, I'm glad to know. I ALWAYS thought it was Benson, but in this one particular early clip it sounds like Benton. Look, I'm getting older by the day, so my ears are going (as everything else). Does anyone know where she is today? I can't believe WLBW Channel 10 kept these tapes and did not erase them. If you have access to more, BRING THEM ON! I love old, local Miami television. That's where I lived for forty-five years.
From Songfacts: ...Contrary to legend, the harmonica player was not Rod Stewart but Pete Hogman of The Pete Hogman Blues Band and Hoggie & The Sharpetones. Hogman told us: "The backing for 'My Boy Lollypop' was recorded live in the studio. I played harmonica and Ernest Ranglin played a black Gibson. Several people have claimed to have played the harmonica break but I can promise you it was me, and it was all recorded in London. CJ.........
CH 10 didn't save them, I did. Fortunately after carrying the masters around for decades, there was audio/video on them. I had to re-mix sound, and color correct each video. Taken 3 years and counting.
I REALLY feel bad for you kids.. You are so jaded, when you should be enjoying life. I grew up in Ft Lauderdale at a time when just being a kid was fun..
In 2016 this beautiful girl should be 65 years and should be a beautiful old , I fell in love with this girl 50 years ago is very strange. I love her smile and her shyness, love your eyes and wanted to be at that time to meet and go out with her . Anyone know what it's called and if there yet?
AND...this was filmed right off a good ol' ROUND-screened black-n-white TV! (look at the edges of the picture) Wish u had one? message me! I specialize in Antique electronics restoration! I make 70 year old round screen tv's work like new, then sell them to YOU! Tubes and all! Thanks 4 this video! :)
the rude remarks usually come from those lacking people skills; not real music lovers...I was going to say that I don't remember girls looking that good at 14!!! Hope Patty sees her post!!! many many thanks for posting!!!
As I posted earlier, Patty was one of my high school classmates. She was very sweet indeed. Because of this, how pathetic I find the rude, sleazy comments made by the characters out there with corpus spongiosums for brains! Oh well, freedom of speech. Have a good life, guys! U.W.
Conkyjoe, at the end you have the wrong birth year for Rick. He was born in Oct. 1938, not in 1939, or he would be a year younger. He missed 79 by a month.

RIP Rick Shaw. Listened to him and Roby Young ( the Rick and Roby Show) in Miami in the early 1970's.
It was GREAT to grow up back then. I would not trade my teenage years in the 50's and early 60's for anything even though I am now an oldie myself. Love the music of that era. She is a real cutie and her clothes are just what I wore my freshman year in college.
I used to love watching this show and even was on Saturday Hop 3 times
were you in the neil sedaka video of "breaking up is hard to do", from that show? (girl in white, with huge earrings?).
that might have been me, I did a lot and want to find them to show my kids. Glad youtube has this, PRE Karaoke.
I'll set the record straight. I was the director of the Rick Shaw Show and Saturday Hop when Patty was around, her surname is: B E N S O N. Take it to the bank.
She is second to none , she won my heart in her singing talent
@conkyjoe Thanks again for doing this, Conky. It takes me back to those days at Thomas Jefferson that I shared with Patty. I try to ignore the rude and vulgar comments launched at her. She was actually a very sweet young lady. I would love to see more. Take care.
Great lip-sync job! Fourteen is so wonderful…
Jamaica has lost a sweet piece of its musical history. R.i.p Millie Smalls

I love this young girl. She's sooo sweet!!!
