Here I am at 80 years of age and this song has been in my memory since I first heard it. Over 60 years ago. Letterman commented that the song always sounds fresh. He was right.
First time I listened to this back in 1962 or1963 was on an AM radio riding with my parents in the countryside 8 miles west of Lodi California in the 1954 Chevy back then and it was one of my favorite boyhood songs then and now in 2024 as a 67 y/o. As a little boy it inspired me to want to fly in the air back then, now in 2024 it's so treasured and it's still buried in my memory of my awesome boyhood days living in the country in rural California growing up with 11 brothers/sisters as me being number 9. Thank you for posting this video.
All good Pauly. Same here in Australia, I remember riding in the back of my dads 51 Dodge Kingsway custom, CKD from the States then, oh yeah, good stuff eh .
I remember when this came out in 61 it sounded like nothing else on the radio. I was fortunate to see him live in Greenville SC the following year when he had several hits. Always been a favorite of mine.
Del was simply amazing !! Even into the 80's he could hit those high notes. Such a shame he died so soon and probably brought on by depression and use of Prozac. We will always remember his music and that great voice. RIP Del
hello Cadillac so you heard this song in the movie American Graffiti in 74'.I remember when the song first came out in '61.I was 10 years old when the song came out.
As a 15 year old in England this was , and still is, at 78, my all time favourite pop song. But I could only hear it on my tinny little transistor radio. There was no teen music on normal channels in those days. For many decades I thought the line was " to the ball and I feel the pain" not " tears are fallin...: 😂😂😂
Reminds of "Love her Madly" by the Doors.play both tunes back to back and there are certain similarities.both songs are great.just puttin' it out there as usual.Happy holidays from Florida🎉🎉🎉🎉
I can barely remember it in the 60s. Was only 8 when the song came out. But really registered with me in American Graffiti. Always heard it in the back of my mind. So many different instruments but I can definitely hear the baritone sax in the background.
The electronic keyboard was called a musitron invented by Max Crook who also co wrote Runaway with Del. It was a modified clavioline which was an analog keyboard. I use the keyboard solo as my phone ringtone and it gets quite a bit of interest by young and old.

Same here! Our era had the best music!
Back in the days of real music.
One of my all time favorites
Yes, it is a great song. Something I found is that the instrumental part sounds a lot like the " Lost in Space " theme from the early 60s.
I agree and I’m “only” 79!

Me too !
今、youtubeで🎉😂デル、シャノンが〽🎤若い頃に歌ってる🎥映像を見てますよ。カッコイイですね~!相当昔は?🎤🎙モテタでしょうね~🎸🎸弾いてるとこカッコイイですよね!

Ok
People still wonder why he ranaway/!
Хороший был исполнитель жаль что застрелился так рано. И почему у него голос так быстро изменился? Он здесь поет одним голосом а у Летермана другим
They almost never look young ???

WAS SOLL "D A S" IM VIDEO ?
👎
My only question is why is he using a guitar as a bow tie?
👎
Good with lipsing but rotten with the chords. He forgot the whole thing.
👎
del shot himself in the head even though he had lots of money--i think he was sick of singing this song(he really did kill himself)
He committed suicide very soon after starting Prozac.... may he RIP....
Shot himself
Take me back PLEASE
An early Elon Musk? (except for the obvious talent missing in the current waxwork)?
