- Jonah has a clear command from God to go preach to the people of Nineveh, but he flat out refuses and even goes so far as to flee in the opposite direction. As he attempts to sail to Tarshish in Jonah 1:1-16, he finds himself in a serious predicament as a storm batters the boat and the sailors realize that Jonah is the reason behind this peril.

I was a bartender for decades and I talked about Jesus in whatever bar I worked at, I got fired from some of those jobs but God always rewarded me with a different bar job and I would do the same thing there. I was an undercover agent for Jesus!

I have to admit that hearing about the reference to the violent husband beating his wife is very triggering for me. I was very severely beaten as a child and as a result have C-PTSD and flashbacks. I believe my father is categorically a sociopath and has been demonically possessed for most of his life... That said, I have to remember that God has forgiven us for sin more than I have (actively and with intention) forgiven my own violent father. Praise the Lord and please pray for myself, and both of my parents. Love you, brothers and sisters.

When I was at Corban University, I heard a neat idea from a professor that the book of Jonah was written BY Jonah as a sort of allegory for the people of Israel sinfully not showing mercy/proselytizing to the other nations. This isn't to say he was saying the events of the book were metaphorical, but rather that his experience was a microcosm of Israel's refusal to share God's grace to the neighboring nations they had bad blood with, retold humorously and making himself the butt of the joke.
There are many goofy churches in the Portland/PNW area that handle serpents... . Heard about them while living in the Portland area for over 50 yrs. Haven't heard of one yet while traveling all over the South visiting many churches for the past 3 yrs. Just saying. 🙂

@@callunah1664 he got down on his knees & repented before the Lord, but he still didn't come back for almost a yr when he got into the 2nd fall off a semi trailer, and in hospital again.
