I think what the book of Jonah is trying to say really is that God creates both good things and bad things but in the end they all pass away and only God judges them
I always read between the lines and put myself and others in that situation. It was a three day trip to go through the city, Jonah only went one day, how is it that the whole city STOPS to hear this man. Try this in one of our cities, people wouldn`t give that man another look, so why did they? I think the sailors put into port there {cause of the damage} and told everyone what had happened, storm out of nowhere, having to throw this man of God overboard, the seas becoming calm right after they throw him over, a giant fish coming up and swallowing him. Now there had to be people on the shoreline that saw this man get spit up out of this fish, if I had to guess, I would say these people ran over to him to give aide while in amazement of this sight, they may have taken him into their city, all the while this rumor is spreading like wildfire so much so that this news was brought before even the king of this city. So all the city came to see this wonder, that they all have been hearing, the sailors being still there saying this is the man we told you about. So all the city knew this was for real! It reminds me of the Woman at the well and what all the people of that town said to her afterward, you peaked out interest but now we see for ourselves.
I love Jonah. He's a real guy. We all want our enemies to be smote and get frustrated when The Lord just won't do it. So Jonah tries to just do the bare minimum because he really wants them gone. He's sulky right up to the end because we all want justice on OUR terms, not The Lord's. It's a great story.
God literally did a mic drop with his final question to Jonah. This is definitely now one of my favorite books in the Bible, I resonate with Jonah on so many levels, it’s hard.
You are a true repented Christian believer. For we are called to love our enemies.. but no one said it will be easy. Thats the jonah in all of us. Reluctant but still Gods educates us in his Mercy.

Wow, I've read Jonah before, but hearing it played out from you guys brought tears to my eyes. God just showed me that this is why I've been "exciled" so to speak. I've prayed for weeks for God to tell me what I've done wrong for Him to leave me, (He never really leaves) but I hadn't heard an answer until I played this video. Tears are streaming down my face. Shouldn't we love a God that loves even our enemies? Shouldn't we be grateful that a being so loving exists and that we fall under his umbrella of merciful love? I can't believe how dumb I've been to not see this sooner. I want to share a quote I heard in a dream not too long ago. A pastor was preaching at the front of the church and his exact words were... "Jesus died for me. But He didn't die for ONLY me." It's our job as Christians to spread the good word. Even if that means loving our enemies long enough to do it. PRAISE GOD AND HIS UNDYING LOVE FOR US!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm actually the opposite. I wouldn't mind god saving my worst enemies. I wouldn't want anyone to suffer for eternity and burn in flames. I'd rather see them repent and make up for their mistakes. My question is rather in today's times, why is god not showing up so much anymore? Why is it that 80% of all people are going down the wrong path. In a society where deception and distraction are so strong that nobody even considers reading the bible. they are making science or self-promoting (instagram, youtube) their god. whouldn't one or two great miracles save alot of people?

No, you will go down to Hades.[a](B) For if the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Sodom, it would have remained to this day. So Even in those old times where they didn't have so much knowledge of science and philosophy many people didn't change, do you think it would work in modern times?

@@Veltior yeah I was about to tell you that too. There is going to be a time God would work his miracle. He did it with me, I was someone who went from believing to denying his existence. After going through major traumas in my life, I started to believe, have hope, and love my God again.
Every time I'm about to start reading a book in the bible or just after having read one I take a look at these videos. The bible project has been a tremendous blessing to my spiritual growth. Ever since I was a kid I always found Jonah hilarious. And today I learned a new way to read the Book of Jonah that makes it more thought provoking and meaningful and not just a comedy. Thankyou.
For the past 3 weeks God has being putting Jonah all in my feeds on social media. So I decided to study multiple sources. Thank you Lord for revealing this to me. Grew up hearing this story. The focus was always the whale but that not it at all. It's about disobedience and forgiveness. Self righteousness as well.

Hi. I'd like to recommend you David Pawson's video on the book of Jonah. It's rather different from this teaching here, and i prefer it actually. David Pawson was an awesome Bible teacher, very deep and insightful.

Dean Natuno | Jesus said "But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you" (Matthew 5:44). So yeah, you need to love (respect their side) even those you don't agree with. We can't always argue, because sometimes it won't work. People don't always listen or are prepared to believe, but they always need love and empathy. "See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him." (1 John 3:1) And if they know you as a disciple of Jesus, they will want to know God and his Son. God bless you.
This is weird ... even tho I'm an Israeli, a Jew ethnically, and an Atheist, I never really sat down and read the bible stories. Most Israelis are secular and hardly read the book, except for secular teaching at school. Those who are Orthodox are more into the later holy scripture like the Talmud. Anyway, all I knew about the book of Jonah is that it is another mythological fantasy story about a prophet who was swallowed by a whale. But now, after watching this beautiful video, made by Christians... I might give this book a chance. Thank you guys :)
+PinkSoldier2009 Please, stop that. That is one of the reasons people become atheists. Christianity really isn't about fear mongering. We learn about God, learn to love God, and do good because God loves all of us, wants to have a relationship with us, and is good to us, not out of fear that God might hate us or want nothing to do with us if we don't do those things. That's not the gospel. God is just, but God is about love and grace, and that is what we should show to others.

Just WOW… amazingly said. We often times ask God to remove or destroy our enemies.. because we want to love what God loves & hate what God hates but this book definitely shedded a new light on Gods’s mercy & character for real. My prayers for my enemies will not be the same after reading this chapter. 🙏🏾❤ this is good!!

So many people see Jonah as a coward, or they dislike the book because of him but beneath the surface is this beautiful reflective narrative of God's love and mercy that questions our definition of justice and judgement towards others, and actually paves the way for Jesus to once and for all define those terms. Thanks for the great vid once again. Keep up the great work!

Great video! Two critiques: 1. Jonah didn't make up his prophecy in Kings, so this shouldn't give us any reason to suspect Jonah. 2. It would have been helpful to mention why Johah hated Nineveh, and why the Assyrian Empire was an enemy of Israel. (The Assyrians made the Babylonians look civilized. They used to skin their victims alive and use their skin as wallpaper. They'd cut the arms and legs at the elbows and knees of the kings they'd conquer and put a leash on them, parading them around like a dog.) This is helpful to know, because it shows why Jonah wanted God to destroy Nineveh, AND it shows how utterly AMAZING God's mercy is that He had mercy on Nineveh and sought Jonah to have mercy on them too.
wow. This makes Jonah seem a lot less selfish. I'd probably feel the same way if I were in his shoes. I mean imagine a notorious criminal getting off scot free from court
You are right, Jonah's prophesy to Jeroboam II came to pass(2kings 14:25)Jonah did not understand God's mercy and purpose, he wanted judgement when God wanted mercy. Someone suggested in this thread that the repented people of Nineveh were the ancestors of the magi that visited Jesus Jesus also did not say Jonah was a bad prophet, but quoted the experience of Jonah. I hope the publishers note this and correct..
Tim Mackie, the guy voicing the video and one of the two main dudes of the Bible Project, has a podcast called "My Strange Bible". His first upload was a 5-part series on Jonah he gave back in the day. It goes in-depth about the subjects you are talking about. Pretty cool stuff
@@shafd6722 They wont, this is a liberal christian production. The main theme of Jonah is to illustrate the death burial and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. The secondary theme is that God grace is given to the most unworthy and undeserving of mankind. "“I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.” [Luke 5:32 KJV]
My pastor, who use to be a history teacher indicated that the ninivites were terrible people that use to kill Israelites and wear their skulls as necklaces. So Jonah's anger towards them is more understandable with that knowledge. Personally I do identify with Jonah's character but it's a matter of perspective. Jonah does not agree with God's decision to forgive the ninivites anymore than a person who lost a brother by a terrorist would forgive them. Even more than that is that sometimes we don't agree with God's decisions so we "run away." But it's important to remember that he's God and we're not. I just think Jonah got a bad rap in this when we're all a little like Jonah, which still isn't good. lol
Emilia Bennett I went through all of these videos and it seems none of the prophets made it . Which is disappointing and I see how churches act like gods of the church using it like a game of survivor . I’ve been exiled from plenty of churches because they think they are better or smarter or even cherished a pedophile over someone who spoke out . It’s sad
"Ninevites" were part of a larger Assyrian civilisation, of which Nineveh was the capital city. The Assyrian empire is mentioned many times in the Bible, and there are Assyrian records too in the form of wall carvings and official records of their kings deeds. Although I'm pretty sure they didn't wear skulls as necklaces, they did do other stuff like flaying, impaling and torturing and decapitating their enemies - which their kings then proudly displayed on their walls. However, your comparison to terrorists is quite accurate as they relied on intimidation and fear campaigns to terrify their victims into submission, kinda like terrorists today.
This is the first time i cried after watching a bible project video, it is indeed difficult to love our enemies. Sometimes i even asked God to make something bad happen to people that i hate... but this book taught me that just as i value my artworks, God also values His creations, the most precious work of His own hands, humans.
I'm absolutely fascinated by Johan's story and the end of this video "Are you okay with God loving your enemies" was an amazing revelation and worth reflecting on 🤞🏽

It’s hard to truly love our enemies but with the help of the Spirit it’s possible. Also, this reminds me of the parable of the workers in the New Testament who get angry when the new workers get paid the same as the old.
This might have become my favorite book in the entire bible... so beautiful in its purpose and i love God's constant poking at Jonah's heart despite the stubbornness.
One of my fav books. We're all Jonah's at some point in our lives. I love how God uses humor, when I read it I could practically see him stomping off in a huff.

Ever since I first learned this story, I always thought the point of it was to teach us that we can't run from what God calls us to do. All this time, I've been missing the point all along. its amazing how I'm learning more from these videos than all my years of going to church. never realized how funny this story was either.
@@drlukesuribabuk1238 Maybe he didn’t survive? In Jonah 2:2 he says: “I cried for help from the depth of Sheol; You heard my voice.” And in 2:5 “Water encompassed me to the point of death. The great deep engulfed me, Weeds were wrapped around my head.” And verse 6: “I descended to the roots of the mountains. The earth with its bars was around me forever, But You have brought up my life from the pit, O LORD my God.” Maybe Jonah died and God brought him back to life. It doesn’t explicitly say, but it could certainly be interpreted either way
Also very important to note that the Bible stories can have many different interpretations, you could read the same book 10 times and get 0 different revelations. It’s not that you missed the point, your point is also valid as well

what a good and matured analysis of the book of Jonah... Sunday School children only fancied with the big fish and Jonah surviving in it... but the real message is so deep and needs self-reflection

When I think of Jonah and his mission to call the gentile Assyrians to repentance, it reminds me of Jesus mission to call all of mankind. When I think of how Jonah was willing to sacrifice his life for the salvation of his shipmates, it reminds me of how Jesus was willing to sacrifice himself for the world. When I think of Jonah’s resurrection on the third day from the belly of the fish, it reminds me of Jesus resurrection from the tomb. They both preached to the people of repentance and salvation! It’s amazing how Jonah prefigured Jesus Christ in the Old Testament. God bless!

Carlos DeJesus Jonah was not willing to sacrifice his life. Jonah could just jump off the ship saving the pagans on board instead of making the pagans murderers.

It just struck me, these storyboards should be sold as laminated placemats or licensed to Chick-fil-A. They are incredible works of art that should be enjoyed on a larger scale. Well done!
The problem with this idea is that Chik-Fi-La has executives that veer LIBERAL...as in Giving money to the evil and wicked SOUTHERN POVERTY LAW CENTER. So somehow, they would contort this scripture to say that Jonah was experiencing gender dysphoria and was boarding a boat to Tarsus to get his hormone blockers and Radical gender mutilation surgery.
God tells us to help people who are in the worst circumstances like Nineveh. It's difficult to listen to God, but I myself as an Evangelist am learning to help people you don't necessarily like…. Many people didn’t like Neneveh…. We are learning to love and obey God instead of rebelling like Jonah or Elijah….Love never fails... and this love does not come from us, it comes from God. These are difficult lessons on letting go of our differences with certain groups that the world doesn't accept but we always obey God and cheerfully show Mercy…. We can’t ever give someone what they deserve no matter how much they have wronged others or wronged us as people…

Idk where you're at in life now, but honestly.... My Dad died before I could ever forgive him. And honestly, he didn't do anything to deserve my forgiveness (neither did we do anything to deserve God's grace). It still didn't make it any less bitter when he died, and I hadn't talked to him for years (by choice). I actually think my life would've gotten worse if I invited him back in.... But at this point, I forgive him now. He was suffering internally, and couldn't help but to hurt others. For example, if I'm depressed, how can I make someone else happy, long term? So now I don't hate my dad's memory, I have pity. So maybe you just need more pity, because no one really has a child and says "you know what, I'm just gonna be a shitty parent". It's not intentional, there's something wrong inside of them that caused them to come short. I hope some of this helps in some way. I've accepted things for how they turned out, but sometimes I wish I just confronted him and talked to him and even cleared the air and let him know exactly how upset I was and why. And maybe I could've understood what he was dealing with more too. But that's not what was meant to be for me.

This was the most epicly awesome loving way that I have ever heard the story of Jonah told. Wow! Applauding Bible Project because this is Truth and put in such a clear way for all readers to understand and most importantly the takeaway is God's love and mercy. This was put so gently and that's exactly how the Father's heart is. Gentle and full of understanding. He knows why we behave the way we do and He knows how to speak to us even when we are being unkind, unloving, unforgiving. He speaks without guilt, shame, and condemnation. He opens our eyes to see things with clarity and the way He see it. Brilliantly done Bible Project. Can't wait to dive into your other videos!!

I might have enemies sometimes. But I cannot hate people and wish death on them no matter how good a reason I have. Because once I was an enemy of God in my sins. I always desire forgiveness from Him so I always try to put it in my heart to forgive others. Just like that verse about God making it rain on the good and the evil and gives them all provision. Who are we to judge? others?

I was really so blind, I thought I knew more about the Bible then I actually do and I am learning more every time I reread through some of the same books. I am so in awe of how God works in others lives to provide me answers. I just needed to stop, be silent, listen and look. Gid has been there a along. I just had blinders in. Praise be to Jesus for walking the walk and talking the talk so that His Word May be known to all. Thank you for walking like Jesus and teaching His Word. I appreciate how the Bible Prpject and team summarized the Book of Jonah. Well done! Easy to follow yet rich in explanation. As my study Bible said, Jonah is a literary masterpiece. And there's so much to learn from it. We learn about God and we also see the flaws in ourselves and how we approach mercy. I thank God for his goodness to me.
That's why it is important to have a relationship with the LORD. There's a difference between knowing/hearing/reading about the LORD and being in a relationship with Him, getting to truly know Him. If you have a relationship with Him, you want his Will to be always done despite your feelings. You die to yourself, live for Him and you reflect Him. I think it is safe to say those that have died to themselves will see a reflection of the LORD and those that have not will see a reflection of themselves. Oooooh! Wooow! Thank you so much for your teachings/For opening our eyes. May the LORD continue to bless you.
Well, we know for certain that God cares for not only the sparrows but cows too! I remember a couple years ago seeing the last sentence in Jonah and realizing what it was saying for the first time. Made me smile🙃

+MessengerOfTruth I assumed a lot of what you just said. Plus I feel as though that makes Jonah even more relatable and that this revelation of what God does with our enemies is foreign to us because we say an eye for an eye when really God loves us all unconditionally.

I have never loved this story as I did after watching and listening to this illustration. What an amazing and fascinating story of repentance, God's love and our human ingratitude. True, and Jonah sleeping in the boat was actually a sign of Jesus' faith. When Jesus slept on the boat during the storm, the apostles wondered how he could sleep when their lives were in danger. But like Jonah, their lives were never in real danger, through faith in God
Saying that Jonah hated God for forgiving Nineveh, is a bit extreme. Angry with God? Yes, but didn't hate God. Atheists are an example of people who hate God. Jonah continued to believe in, and pray to God. There's a significant difference.
"And let us not grow weary of doing good for in due season we will reap if we do not give up." Galatians 6:9 With the help of the Spirit, follow the perfect example of Jesus. 0:50 In that 2 Kings passage, the scripture clearly says that those prophecies were God’s words spoken through Jonah. He is not a false prophet. It is a stretch to say there should be suspicion on Jonah’s character based on this passage and Amos.

Great Video! I live in Canada and we have let many Chaldean and Assyrian Christians into Canada due to the wars in Iraq and Syria as refugees. I have become friends with them and they claim that their ancestors were the ones who repented in Nineveh and that the Prophet Zoroaster was visiting Nineveh when Jonah preached. It was through Zoroaster that the worship of “The One True God” spread to their ancestors. Eight hundred years later some of their leaders - the Magi, were the first to visit the baby Messiah. They say that this was all part of God’s plan when He sent Jonah to preach to them, the enemy of the people of God. Do you know if this has any validity in history? If it is true, that is amazing!
I see myself as Jonah, I went from believing in the Lord to denying him. I could not accept the fact that a powerful God is not helping the world be a better place. After going through life as an atheist, I have some near death experiences and traumas. I remember the day that I started believing again, I called my dad to tell him that I believe again. I learned that God miracles are real. I look both at my father and my life and how we had a sinful life but as soon as we accepted our Lord into hearts our lives had changed for the better.
WOW! These are points that I have NEVER been presented with or thought about myself. Thank you very mcuh for this! I pray that i will always have the heart of God, and never be angry with God that he loves my enemies.

I think what the book of Jonah is trying to say really is that God creates both good things and bad things but in the end they all pass away and only God judges them
I always read between the lines and put myself and others in that situation.
It was a three day trip to go through the city, Jonah only went one day, how is it that the whole city STOPS to hear this man. Try this in one of our cities, people wouldn`t give that man another look, so why did they? I think the sailors put into port there {cause of the damage} and told everyone what had happened, storm out of nowhere, having to throw this man of God overboard, the seas becoming calm right after they throw him over, a giant fish coming up and swallowing him.
Now there had to be people on the shoreline that saw this man get spit up out of this fish, if I had to guess, I would say these people ran over to him to give aide while in amazement of this sight, they may have taken him into their city, all the while this rumor is spreading like wildfire so much so that this news was brought before even the king of this city.
So all the city came to see this wonder, that they all have been hearing, the sailors being still there saying this is the man we told you about.
So all the city knew this was for real!
It reminds me of the Woman at the well and what all the people of that town said to her afterward, you peaked out interest but now we see for ourselves.
I love Jonah. He's a real guy. We all want our enemies to be smote and get frustrated when The Lord just won't do it. So Jonah tries to just do the bare minimum because he really wants them gone. He's sulky right up to the end because we all want justice on OUR terms, not The Lord's. It's a great story.

Wow, I've read Jonah before, but hearing it played out from you guys brought tears to my eyes. God just showed me that this is why I've been "exciled" so to speak. I've prayed for weeks for God to tell me what I've done wrong for Him to leave me, (He never really leaves) but I hadn't heard an answer until I played this video. Tears are streaming down my face.
Shouldn't we love a God that loves even our enemies? Shouldn't we be grateful that a being so loving exists and that we fall under his umbrella of merciful love? I can't believe how dumb I've been to not see this sooner. I want to share a quote I heard in a dream not too long ago. A pastor was preaching at the front of the church and his exact words were...
"Jesus died for me. But He didn't die for ONLY me."
It's our job as Christians to spread the good word. Even if that means loving our enemies long enough to do it.

I'm actually the opposite. I wouldn't mind god saving my worst enemies. I wouldn't want anyone to suffer for eternity and burn in flames. I'd rather see them repent and make up for their mistakes.
My question is rather in today's times, why is god not showing up so much anymore? Why is it that 80% of all people are going down the wrong path. In a society where deception and distraction are so strong that nobody even considers reading the bible. they are making science or self-promoting (instagram, youtube) their god.

Ever since I was a kid I always found Jonah hilarious. And today I learned a new way to read the Book of Jonah that makes it more thought provoking and meaningful and not just a comedy. Thankyou.
For the past 3 weeks God has being putting Jonah all in my feeds on social media. So I decided to study multiple sources. Thank you Lord for revealing this to me. Grew up hearing this story. The focus was always the whale but that not it at all. It's about disobedience and forgiveness. Self righteousness as well.

We can't always argue, because sometimes it won't work. People don't always listen or are prepared to believe, but they always need love and empathy.
"See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him." (1 John 3:1) And if they know you as a disciple of Jesus, they will want to know God and his Son.

This is weird ... even tho I'm an Israeli, a Jew ethnically, and an Atheist, I never really sat down and read the bible stories. Most Israelis are secular and hardly read the book, except for secular teaching at school. Those who are Orthodox are more into the later holy scripture like the Talmud. Anyway, all I knew about the book of Jonah is that it is another mythological fantasy story about a prophet who was swallowed by a whale. But now, after watching this beautiful video, made by Christians... I might give this book a chance.

+PinkSoldier2009 Please, stop that. That is one of the reasons people become atheists. Christianity really isn't about fear mongering. We learn about God, learn to love God, and do good because God loves all of us, wants to have a relationship with us, and is good to us, not out of fear that God might hate us or want nothing to do with us if we don't do those things. That's not the gospel. God is just, but God is about love and grace, and that is what we should show to others.

The lesson of the Book of Jonah is another way of mirroring, cleaning, clearing our hearts of the stubbornness we have deep inside.
So many people see Jonah as a coward, or they dislike the book because of him but beneath the surface is this beautiful reflective narrative of God's love and mercy that questions our definition of justice and judgement towards others, and actually paves the way for Jesus to once and for all define those terms.

Great video! Two critiques: 1. Jonah didn't make up his prophecy in Kings, so this shouldn't give us any reason to suspect Jonah. 2. It would have been helpful to mention why Johah hated Nineveh, and why the Assyrian Empire was an enemy of Israel. (The Assyrians made the Babylonians look civilized. They used to skin their victims alive and use their skin as wallpaper. They'd cut the arms and legs at the elbows and knees of the kings they'd conquer and put a leash on them, parading them around like a dog.) This is helpful to know, because it shows why Jonah wanted God to destroy Nineveh, AND it shows how utterly AMAZING God's mercy is that He had mercy on Nineveh and sought Jonah to have mercy on them too.

You are right, Jonah's prophesy to Jeroboam II came to pass(2kings 14:25)Jonah did not understand God's mercy and purpose, he wanted judgement when God wanted mercy. Someone suggested in this thread that the repented people of Nineveh were the ancestors of the magi that visited Jesus Jesus also did not say Jonah was a bad prophet, but quoted the experience of Jonah. I hope the publishers note this and correct..

The secondary theme is that God grace is given to the most unworthy and undeserving of mankind. "“I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.” [Luke 5:32 KJV]
My pastor, who use to be a history teacher indicated that the ninivites were terrible people that use to kill Israelites and wear their skulls as necklaces. So Jonah's anger towards them is more understandable with that knowledge. Personally I do identify with Jonah's character but it's a matter of perspective. Jonah does not agree with God's decision to forgive the ninivites anymore than a person who lost a brother by a terrorist would forgive them. Even more than that is that sometimes we don't agree with God's decisions so we "run away." But it's important to remember that he's God and we're not. I just think Jonah got a bad rap in this when we're all a little like Jonah, which still isn't good. lol

"Ninevites" were part of a larger Assyrian civilisation, of which Nineveh was the capital city. The Assyrian empire is mentioned many times in the Bible, and there are Assyrian records too in the form of wall carvings and official records of their kings deeds. Although I'm pretty sure they didn't wear skulls as necklaces, they did do other stuff like flaying, impaling and torturing and decapitating their enemies - which their kings then proudly displayed on their walls. However, your comparison to terrorists is quite accurate as they relied on intimidation and fear campaigns to terrify their victims into submission, kinda like terrorists today.
This is the first time i cried after watching a bible project video, it is indeed difficult to love our enemies. Sometimes i even asked God to make something bad happen to people that i hate... but this book taught me that just as i value my artworks, God also values His creations, the most precious work of His own hands, humans.
I'm absolutely fascinated by Johan's story and the end of this video "Are you okay with God loving your enemies" was an amazing revelation and worth reflecting on 🤞🏽

Also, this reminds me of the parable of the workers in the New Testament who get angry when the new workers get paid the same as the old.

All this time, I've been missing the point all along. its amazing how I'm learning more from these videos than all my years of going to church. never realized how funny this story was either.

In Jonah 2:2 he says:
“I cried for help from the depth of Sheol; You heard my voice.”
And in 2:5
“Water encompassed me to the point of death. The great deep engulfed me, Weeds were wrapped around my head.”
And verse 6:
“I descended to the roots of the mountains. The earth with its bars was around me forever, But You have brought up my life from the pit, O LORD my God.”
Maybe Jonah died and God brought him back to life. It doesn’t explicitly say, but it could certainly be interpreted either way
Also very important to note that the Bible stories can have many different interpretations, you could read the same book 10 times and get 0 different revelations. It’s not that you missed the point, your point is also valid as well

When I think of Jonah and his mission to call the gentile Assyrians to repentance, it reminds me of Jesus mission to call all of mankind. When I think of how Jonah was willing to sacrifice his life for the salvation of his shipmates, it reminds me of how Jesus was willing to sacrifice himself for the world. When I think of Jonah’s resurrection on the third day from the belly of the fish, it reminds me of Jesus resurrection from the tomb. They both preached to the people of repentance and salvation! It’s amazing how Jonah prefigured Jesus Christ in the Old Testament. God bless!

That is why Our Lord said to the Pharisees that no sign except the sign of Jonah would be given. He intended to mirror that.

The problem with this idea is that Chik-Fi-La has executives that veer LIBERAL...as in Giving money to the evil and wicked SOUTHERN POVERTY LAW CENTER. So somehow, they would contort this scripture to say that Jonah was experiencing gender dysphoria and was boarding a boat to Tarsus to get his hormone blockers and Radical gender mutilation surgery.

God tells us to help people who are in the worst circumstances like Nineveh. It's difficult to listen to God, but I myself as an Evangelist am learning to help people you don't necessarily like…. Many people didn’t like Neneveh…. We are learning to love and obey God instead of rebelling like Jonah or Elijah….Love never fails... and this love does not come from us, it comes from God. These are difficult lessons on letting go of our differences with certain groups that the world doesn't accept but we always obey God and cheerfully show Mercy…. Idk where you're at in life now, but honestly.... My Dad died before I could ever forgive him. And honestly, he didn't do anything to deserve my forgiveness (neither did we do anything to deserve God's grace). It still didn't make it any less bitter when he died, and I hadn't talked to him for years (by choice). I actually think my life would've gotten worse if I invited him back in.... But at this point, I forgive him now. He was suffering internally, and couldn't help but to hurt others. For example, if I'm depressed, how can I make someone else happy, long term? So now I don't hate my dad's memory, I have pity. So maybe you just need more pity, because no one really has a child and says "you know what, I'm just gonna be a shitty parent". It's not intentional, there's something wrong inside of them that caused them to come short. I hope some of this helps in some way. I've accepted things for how they turned out, but sometimes I wish I just confronted him and talked to him and even cleared the air and let him know exactly how upset I was and why. And maybe I could've understood what he was dealing with more too. But that's not what was meant to be for me.

This was the most epicly awesome loving way that I have ever heard the story of Jonah told. Wow! Applauding Bible Project because this is Truth and put in such a clear way for all readers to understand and most importantly the takeaway is God's love and mercy. This was put so gently and that's exactly how the Father's heart is. Gentle and full of understanding. He knows why we behave the way we do and He knows how to speak to us even when we are being unkind, unloving, unforgiving. He speaks without guilt, shame, and condemnation. He opens our eyes to see things with clarity and the way He see it. Brilliantly done Bible Project. Can't wait to dive into your other videos!!

I might have enemies sometimes. But I cannot hate people and wish death on them no matter how good a reason I have. Because once I was an enemy of God in my sins.
I always desire forgiveness from Him so I always try to put it in my heart to forgive others. Just like that verse about God making it rain on the good and the evil and gives them all provision.

Wow! I am so blown away. I can't wait to read these books of the Bible. I was really so blind, I thought I knew more about the Bible then I actually do and I am learning more every time I reread through some of the same books.

The best book in my house right now is the Bible. I used to always try to figure out what I wanted to read and what book to get.

As my study Bible said, Jonah is a literary masterpiece. And there's so much to learn from it. We learn about God and we also see the flaws in ourselves and how we approach mercy. I thank God for his goodness to me.
That's why it is important to have a relationship with the LORD. There's a difference between knowing/hearing/reading about the LORD and being in a relationship with Him, getting to truly know Him. If you have a relationship with Him, you want his Will to be always done despite your feelings. You die to yourself, live for Him and you reflect Him. I think it is safe to say those that have died to themselves will see a reflection of the LORD and those that have not will see a reflection of themselves. Oooooh! Wooow! Thank you so much for your teachings/For opening our eyes. May the LORD continue to bless you.

Well, we know for certain that God cares for not only the sparrows but cows too! I remember a couple years ago seeing the last sentence in Jonah and realizing what it was saying for the first time. Made me smile🙃

+MessengerOfTruth I assumed a lot of what you just said. Plus I feel as though that makes Jonah even more relatable and that this revelation of what God does with our enemies is foreign to us because we say an eye for an eye when really God loves us all unconditionally.

I have never loved this story as I did after watching and listening to this illustration. What an amazing and fascinating story of repentance, God's love and our human ingratitude. Thanks for the wonderful imaginative illustration. Like a child would ask, I actually wondered what eventually became of the prophet!! But the point was made.

Sailors who repented! Who were Jesus’ first disciples? Fishermen like Peter, Andrew with James and John who were called the sons of “thunder”!
True, and Jonah sleeping in the boat was actually a sign of Jesus' faith. When Jesus slept on the boat during the storm, the apostles wondered how he could sleep when their lives were in danger. But like Jonah, their lives were never in real danger, through faith in God

Saying that Jonah hated God for forgiving Nineveh, is a bit extreme. Angry with God? Yes, but didn't hate God. Atheists are an example of people who hate God. Jonah continued to believe in, and pray to God. There's a significant difference.
I love Jonah, because he reflects my attitude, I don't usually pray for enemies .❤❤❤

0:50 In that 2 Kings passage, the scripture clearly says that those prophecies were God’s words spoken through Jonah. He is not a false prophet. It is a stretch to say there should be suspicion on Jonah’s character based on this passage and Amos.

These guys do a great work but I have spied some discrepancies I'm their narratives from Scripture and even some sus symbols in their animations. The LORD knows all those who are truly His.

I live in Canada and we have let many Chaldean and Assyrian Christians into Canada due to the wars in Iraq and Syria as refugees. I have become friends with them and they claim that their ancestors were the ones who repented in Nineveh and that the Prophet Zoroaster was visiting Nineveh when Jonah preached.
It was through Zoroaster that the worship of “The One True God” spread to their ancestors. Eight hundred years later some of their leaders - the Magi, were the first to visit the baby Messiah.
They say that this was all part of God’s plan when He sent Jonah to preach to them, the enemy of the people of God.
Do you know if this has any validity in history?

This brought out a totally different perspective of Jonah that I've never thought about. I always saw him as scared, not flat out rebellious or angry.

I see myself as Jonah, I went from believing in the Lord to denying him. I could not accept the fact that a powerful God is not helping the world be a better place. After going through life as an atheist, I have some near death experiences and traumas. I remember the day that I started believing again, I called my dad to tell him that I believe again. I learned that God miracles are real. I look both at my father and my life and how we had a sinful life but as soon as we accepted our Lord into hearts our lives had changed for the better.
