Not worth ranking the last 4 or so years. Etienne is likely done for, Hall may not stay healthy, Gibbs may take over Bijan Robinson and Brooks may not be anything especially on the panthers in their current state. RBs are risky calls.
The way teams have devalued running backs more and more over the year is strange to me. How does one make the distinction that it's any less important than any other position? I think it will happen and I'm actually surprised it hasn't yet but it would make sense to see less and less talented college players refuse to play RB, a position where career longevity is already a known negative. Why would top athletes want to keep playing the tough position knowing they likely wont last long and certainly wont ever be making the big bucks. If the argument is that a no name backup running back or late draft pick back can come in for an established star and put up similar numbers it's not the only position where we see it. Why stay at RB knowing you take more hits, have shorter careers and get paid quite a bit less? Especially when to their right and left are teammates who get paid much, much more in the wide receivers. Hell CB, or Safeties also get paid more. Business wise It doesn't make sense for the teams to continue down this road.
