I will check this out. In the 1970s Alice Cooper's records were never released officially here. Too radical or outrageous for Malaysian society in the mid 1970s. Heard their music through bootlegged cassettes around 1979. The pioneer of shock rock. Even horror punk bands like The Misfits are influenced by him. Your videos rekindle our interest in long forgotten records. And Vincent Price is also involved! Wow!
Hi Jegaraj, thank you for watching and sharing your story of what life was like for you back then. It is difficult for me to comprehend having music banned like that. So pleased we can talk like this now. Phil
Hello again Phil, Yes this is a good album, I did see the tour back in '75-lots of theatrics as usual, he is the original "horror , gross-out, shocking performer..great stuff. Listen to a track from "Billion $ Babies" called "Unfinished Sweet", I am surprised that he did not get sued by the James Bond theme composer, Monty Norman, there is an instrumental break where they play the signature riff. There is no writing credit given, oh well, leave that one to the lawyers, I guess???
Like you, Phil I have all of Alice's albums and this is also my favourite album of his even though I could name several excellent ones but this to me is my ultimate fave of his. I also have the DVD Audio of this album with the 5.1 mix along with Billion Dollar Babies. Would like to see the album get updated and released on Blu Ray.
Fantastic Phil! I too grew up with this album as my brothers mates brought Alice Cooper into my fold. I was lucky enough to be educated into the rock of “Killer” and later Welcome To My Nightmare (I even have that on DVD-A). Like all of Alice’s music, he was always backed with great musicians and way ahead of his time. Like you said, Vincent Price’s vocal is superb (you learn that verse through years of listening to it) and Only Women Bleed is an anthem in itself and probably one of his most beautiful songs lyrically and musically- who would think AC could be so melodic?! Truly, AC is the first of the Stage rock stars. Keep these coming old mate! Cheers
I'm totally with you Phil as Welcome To My Nightmare is my favorite Alice Cooper album. Everything about the album is great from the cover to the songs to the playing. I love Vincent Price spoken word part on Devil's Food as a leadup to The Black Widow. Steve Hunter and Dick Wagner's guitar playing is awesome on the album. Wagner was a great songwriting partner with Alice. Hunter and Wagner are one of the most underrated guitar duos of all time. I can't praise this album enough.
Hi, thank you for watching. I feel I should have made this video a lot longer. I have been playing it a lot recently and there is so much more to be said. Your overview is perfect 👍 Phil :)
@@NowSpinningMagazine Thanks! Your review is great. Any album review can be added on with more info. I think you did a great job hitting on the most important info to know about the album, especially for people who haven't heard it. Funny you mention you've been listening to Welcome To My Nightmare a lot recently because I have as well. I totally agree that the Halloween soundtrack is one of the best ever. First Halloween movie is an all time classic.
It is a true masterpiece! I have had this album in one form or another since its release starting with the 8-track (pretty much an American thing ) It is indeed my favorite AC album. A very close second is one of his 'Blackout period' albums from the 80s called Special Forces. Another overlooked album but worth a listen......PS-Thumbs up and subbed !
Like Stan I saw this live in September 1975 at Liverpool Empire. The show was so “ big” only a few venues in the UK could hold it. The album and touring band were awesome, particularly Steve Hunter and Dick Wagner on guitars( same band that worked with Lou Reed on “ Berlin” I think). Alice was sensational and had 3,000 scousers going nuts, especially with “ Department Of Youth” then “ Schools Out”!!!
Alice is the best and I agree this is his best would love to here your top 20 Alice tracks wish they would do a box set or double disc rarities or live stuff like the killers and schools out recent releases love the coop great show buddy 👍🏼🏴🙏
As for the ASTROTURF DVD mention...I bought it, so far I have only watched "I'm Eighteen" (vid is on YT, check it out). Great seeing/hearing the remaining guys get together. It's raw & there's a place where it almost falls apart ;-) The venue is small (a Record Store)...the intimacy & the crowd so close to the stage is glorious.
@@jogischulz2576 I haven't even opened mine, yet. It's a Xmas gift to me, from me. ;-) Here's YT link (hopefully, it works for you). ua-cam.com/video/5B-xyoGq_G0/v-deo.html
@@jogischulz2576 I like it! All their stuff from the early '70s...love it! They were mysterious, macabre. Around BDB, they became a little too 'mainstream'. I mean, Teen magazines (my friend's sister had these magazines)?!?! ;-)
Alice Cooper is amazing. Just not a fan how he treated his first band. Money talks Cooper walks. I know one of his drummers Ken Mary from House Of Lords hair band. Even recorded at Ken's studio he likes Alice and treats him well as a jobie.
My older, hipper cousins turned me onto Alice Cooper in August 1972. I ran out & bought SCHOOL'S OUT...still my favourite by the group. I still kick myself for blowing an opportunity to see the BDB Christmas Tour...I did, however, see the NIGHTMARE tour in the Norfolk Scope...Suzi Quatro opened. (Sigh) I have the WTMN LP, the cd, the DVD, & the Songbook (remember those?). Anyway, for me, the 'magic' of the original group was not there anymore. Way too much fluff at that Nightmare concert. His excellent band of session musicians were way, way in the back. "Devil's Food" (with Wagner & Hunter right in front of me) was cool. That was it.
I agree, all of that choreography was annoying, I missed the original guys. Bowie did the same thing a couple of years earlier, when he parted company with the Spiders, thankfully the "Ziggy" concert was captured on film. Either way, both Alice and David are two of the greats.
Great video Phil, keep up the great videos😊
Thank you for your support - Phil :)
