You should have shown your wife the version with the Melbourne symphony orchestra. Brilliant. And yes that version is done with the bag pipes. Whenever John did a tour with a new album. He always changed the song’s performance. It was good. Your favourite songs just mixed differently. And just as fantastic
Was going to say the same thing - the MSO version is a lot more powerful than that version, but not putting down his performance in this one in any way.
Was always a little surprised that, with bagpipes available for 'The Voice', during the same concert, he covered AC/DC's 'It's a Long Way to the Top', but used creative voicing by other instruments for the bagpipe parts in the original. May have been a challenge to get a bagpiper out with all the activity on stage during that section. I have stumbled across a couple other videos where he use bagpipes, but they weren't the best quality and I didn't save links or I'd share them. In different venues, I've seen him use from 1-3 pipers.
I personally think the only way to listen to John is live...soooo much better. You're right about the restrictions in a studio. The stage is John's second home. Thanks for your reaction, yet again...😊
John was diagnosed with with cancer august 2022 days after his close friend Olivia Newton John died. He Is cancer free but probably won’t sing live again. We have only seen a photo of him at his son’s wedding in February he turned 75 in July and he is the loviest person so natural. I was him 5 times in concert in Melbourne watch the Main Event concert with Olivia and our theatre star Anthony Warlow it was amazing.
John Farnham isn’t just a great singer, he’s a great showman. He loves interacting with the crowd, being goofy and throwing the mike stand one minute, and the next dipping into ballads like Touch of Paradise and When The War Is Over. A true Australian treasure :) PS You’re right about the synth solo, they usually have an actual bagpiper for just this song.
@@The-Fair-Dinkum-Mikki YES!!! That whole damn concert. Omg I wish I was able to see it 🥲 probably a bit too young but I want to purchase it. And watch it on its entirety. I think the chain reaction tour was also amazing the one where he was wearing the black long sleeve shirt and black jeans/pants
@@gigisplayground4657 .. I was a young girl when he first hit the airwaves with Sadie. I've never been able to see him live but we're blessed to have recordings of him live. To feel his energy as best we can. Yes, I've seen footage of that concert as well. I pray he gets to sing again, to perform, cause when it's in your blood, your DNA, your soul, it's crushing to have health challenges take that from u. I've been there myself, & slowly coming back. He's an Empath, which is why he feels the songs as he sings them. x
Brad Steele says Farnsey is one of the best singers he’s heard in his life. @thatsingerreactions says Farnsey is in his top 5 of all time. Yet half the world have never heard of him. What does it take for the global music industry to work how it should ?!
@@Dr_KAP Well said Kappy and it's not only Brad and Nick, so many others claim him as the best. VK, Charlie Smith, Torben, Paul & Fellipe and so many others. That's why I keep plugging away with my series and other videos. Love our Aussie legends - Go John, Go Jimmy and our other legends ♥️♥️♥️
@@AussieDebb yes that’s true but Brad and Nick are two of the most well known music reactors on UA-cam. But you’re right everyone says similar about John and Jimmy too. The Thamesmen are always like what the hell! Why are these guys not world famous 😃
The best way to listen to John is live. Aussies know this and it is awesome to see more of the world discover John here on this platform. Emily: Please don't apologise for a lack of make up or hair done? There is nothing wrong with your face at all, and you have a beautiful smile with a hint of a dimple that is adorable! Would rather see your face than a painted face tbh. 😊
He is better live because he's so good interacting with the audience and his band and BVs are just phenomenal as well. He lost the mullett in 1996 😟 but still looked good. John is 75 now, is cancer free and singing around the house. We need live bands back!! He also plays with his mic and micstand. He is a genuinely the nicest, kindest, most generous celebrity. He certainly would stop for you if you needed help. We love him ❤❤❤
Hi Brad, Love your reactions. The best version of John’s performance of “You’re The Voice” is with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. Especially his mic stand antics. Check it out. Another doosey is his gig with the late great Olivier Newton John at the same concert performing “Please Don’t Ask Me”. Watch it with the bride. I’d love to see both of your reactions to this beautiful duet by two of the greatest artists of all time. Incidentally, at the time, “You’re The Voice” was a Vietnam war protest song. The very loud opening bass drum sequences were intended to set the scene by representing the sound of cannons followed by the kettle drums representing rapid scatter fire from a vast amount of automatic rifles. Epic!!
Yep I saw John in 2019 in concert, and I can confirm that he was just as powerful and charismatic as ever. It was a brilliant concert and bucket list worthy
John Farnham and Steve Perry...BOTH amazing live. Both called The Voice. BOTH sound equally as good...if NOT BETTER in a concert No auto tune. No BS. Just PURE TALENT. WE KNOW JOHN WILL NEVER SING AGAIN....but we got half a century of joy from this man. Kamala Harris used this in the background of her first TV ad. Over 100 live shows and I was NEVER disappointed.. NOT ONCE.
Farnham is 75 at the moment, he does sing, but only his family hear him now. He has an autobiography coming out either next month or even November this year. Farnham is the coolest gentleman around. 👋💕🇦🇺
G'day mate Tell you missus she fits in with Aussie culture Natural and beautiful is best You are spot on with bagpipes he has them in the other one he does the original version Look up the Melbourne symphony orchestra version full orchestra john's sings with even more power Also he's interaction with the crowd as well Look up he's cover of help with Melbourne symphony orchestra These two you will see the audience interaction with john while he sings its worth it for that alone Also does a long way to the top with Melbourne symphony orchestra You patener will love them as well Cheers mate 🦘🇦🇺👍
Have you listened to John Farnham, doing “ Black Dog”,(Led Zepplin),as a warmup before one of his live shows! He , his back up singers and band are absolutely incredible! Please, if you haven’t already listened to it, please do,you won’t be disappointed!
Terrific review We love our John😊, he’s also sang songs in other American movie soundtracks. *Movie Fletch. Running For Love. *Movie Rad - Thunder In Your Heart- Break The Ice - With You. *Movie The Sluggers Wife - Love It’s just the way it goes. *Movie Hot Rod - John singing You’re The Voice. *Movie Savage Streets - Justice For One . Innocent Hearts. The Quiet Ones You Gotta Watch. Nothings Gonna Stand In Our Way. *Voyage Of The Rock Aliens - My World Is Empty Without You…. I think that’s it - maybe lol 😊
You have to do the same song at the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra because it sounds better and it will not cut in and out like that video just did is actually in a white shirt at that concert and you have to do help from the same concert
The synth solo was because the bagpipers couldn't make this show.... normally he would use them there....up to when John had his operation, he still sang in the same key ... at 72 .... he's a legend ... and we love him.... If you haven't seen it yet, check out Playing to Win from the night with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.... his range is particularly ridiculous....
@@jeffwilson7100 Aww well that's a shame - there's still the one from Flinders Park (Chain reaction concert) on eXDax channel... the quality is pretty good.
The point where the "synth solo" happens is actually where the bagpipes are normally. In fact there is a clip on UA-cam where a piper does come on stage. Here ya go John Farnham & Melbourne Symphony Orchestra - You're the voice ua-cam.com/video/6m2m_9Uijso/v-deo.html
I'll echo the sentiments of others here: John (and Band) are pure gold, but the definitive version ... where all stops were pulled out ... is the one at the National Tennis Centre with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra in 1989 (same concert as the versions of Help and Long Way that you reviewed). And you're right ... live performances eclipse studio versions. John is a sight/sound to be seen/heard. He's also a master at making large venues feel much smaller ... such is the power of his connection with audiences.
He is so good I think he could sing underwater and still sound fantastic. He is a really down to earth bloke who didn't want fame overseas because Family and Australia meant more to him. Watch this same song with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and keep an eye out for the mic stand tricks just after the bagpipes.
Thanks Brad. This was great as always 😊👍And please tell your wife, sorry I didn't catch her name, that she she looks wonderful the way she is 😊John is always best live when he can let go as much as he wants, drawing good energy from the crowd as he does it ❤ You mentioned how his voice is the same now as it was back then so I have provided you with an example of just how good he still is.
