He is a truly amazing man. I used to work in a hotel and unexpectantly John had to spend the night with us. He rang down to find out where he could iron a shirt. After talking for a few moments I told him that one of our receptionists was going to be devastated to have missed him as she ADORED him and that she would have happily iron every piece of clothing he owned. He asked me if I could call her for him. I called and got her Dad and told him that when I told her who was calling she would think I was joking so he had to reassure her it was true. When she came on the line I said her name and told her that I wanted to introduce her to her caller John Farnham, and before I went off line, I heard him say to her "So ........ I hear you take in ironing" HE TALKED WITH HER FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES. WHAT A GENTLEMAN AND STAR HE IS!!!!!!
In John's darkest hour in the late 70s, the once 'straight to stardom' confident 60s teenage superstar was now an adult relegated to singing in small clubs and pubs often to small polite audiences, many of whom would talk while he sang, oblivious to his genius. But like a bright coloured butterfly, he re-invented himself in his middle-age to a new generation with new music and vitality. The "young" John was back bigger and better than ever. The low times humbled him, but his voice and humour remained unscared. What emerged was the greatest entertainer of our times.
I remember this my dear mum, said that inside of John there were 10 other singers trying to get out and be heard. My mum was a smart woman. This is a great song, and whatother way can you give it credit than having the greatest of great singers sing it. Thanks Charlie, you are an honoury Australian.
Lisa Edwards is the name that escaped you. I’ve done the bagpipe bit in You’re The Voice quite a few times in concert for John and can confirm that IRL he is 💯the genuine person that he seems to be on stage
I'm crying. This is pure perfection. His voice soars and lifts me up with it. I watched and listened to this a dozen times over Christmas (and cried every time). He is four years older than me, and so I've been blessed to have enjoyed his music in my life for most of my life. I just love him!! He is the goat!! Superb singer, superb performer and such a beautiful, caring, humble man.
I think that look in John's eyes is the look of someone in his element, doing what he was born to do 😊 What a master he is! Thank you for another heartfelt reaction to 'our John' ❤
John sang You'll never walk alone in his concert to raise funds for our drought afflicted farmers in Australia. He always gives so much to his fellow humans in need. And yes everything about him is genuine. 💗💓💖
Just discovered your channel Charlie. Loving what your genuine love of the artists and the music. As a proud 61 year old Australian that has adored John Farnham since the 1960’s, he is a truly humble, funny, authentic, and inspiring human being. There has never ever been a single controversy about him. He is without question, THE greatest male singer of all time. I’ve had the honour of seeing him in concert only twice. You’re right, he makes you feel like he’s getting more joy from performing for just you than you get from him. I’ve never experienced that from any other artist. He’s an incredible human being.
My God he has a fantastic set of "lungs"! I absolutely love that tune. I heard him in concert many years ago and several times since. I am 67 years and I have followed his wonderful career like forever. Thanks "Farnsy".
John was born in England, Dagenham Essex, came to Australia with his family at 10 year's old. Thank you England, he is out John now, and Aussies love him. Magnificent singer, great reaction 💖
Charlie has reacted to John a lot, you should check out some more of those videos - John is phenomenal, for all the reasons Charlie expressed here, and because his vocal ability is spectacular. :)
That is what we do in every town all over Australia. Every child grows up knowing they will hold a candle in a cup because Christmas here is Summer. Or we can stay home and watch this on TV. John and his singers make my heart smile. He truly loves everyone and so so Lisa, Lyndsey and Miss Venetta. When you work with John you never leave.
I love this clip. John and his backup singers are brilliant. You are right when you say John is just being himself. There is no ego in John, he is just one of the crowd in his mind. He always acknowledges his band members by name in all his concerts. We admire him for his incredible voice and magnificent stage presence, but we love him for the beautiful person he is.
Anytime you see John, he always has a smile on his face. He is a joy to watch, and hear him sing; even when life has been bad, he is rarely seen with a frown or scowl on his face. Yes, John is one of those people, that you feel like you're friends; it's as though he's always been apart of your life.
I think it's remarkable that someone who has been famous since he was a teenager and was really hounded by the media and fans at times can have such love for people. Even going back to a very early interview with a particularly judgemental interviewer he talks genuinely about how much he loves his audience. I hope he's doing well ❤️🙏
Thank you Charlie .So love your reactions to John. Love your appreciation of John and your understanding of the genuine ,wholesome ,special person that John is. This also brings me to tears. Watching John perform is always an emotionally happy experience because you can feel the love he has for singing , for his band and for his audience. So much joy.Love you John❤️
It's a rabbit hole worth exploring. John has a superb voice no matter what genre he is singing. His stage presence is spectacular. And to top it off he is beautiful person, inside and out. Never a primary donna, always available to everyone. It's no wonder he is so loved.
Lisa Edwards. Venetta Field has sung back up for many well known singers, for a while she was an Ikette with Ike and Tina Turner. It doesn't have to be Christmas to listen to John singing Carol's.... I think the angels found this amazing voice floating round the ether and waited until they found the right man to give it to. Jan. '24. UK. E ❤. .
Haha. I love that concept. What are the chances of that amazing voice being matched with an equally amazing spirit. I find John Farnham inspiring in every way and I'm not one for idolising anyone. I think Farnham is my one exception. Thanks Charlie for the reaction and Paul for requesting it. ❤
@@raelenewilliams2763 am with you all the way. John is my top of the list favourite performer. There isn't one song, or one performance, that I don't love, and not one dud note in any of them. Just phenomenal - pure gold .. Jan'24.. UK. E♥️
Our John is just remarkable. I have seen him live many times over the years even in small pub settings. Elvis also does a gorgeous version of You’ll Never Walk Alone.
Great to see you back doing what you do best Charlie 😊 I adore John as well and I can not wait to see more John reactions. The massive John Farnham fans also LOVE the fact that you Love him like we do. Look after yourself and take care.
Lisa, Venetta and Lyndsay are such great singers in their own rights. Theyve known and worked with John for so long now that they know his voice well and fit in with him perfectly.
You do a great job 👍 with our John Don't stress just breathe and do what you do.Its wonderful to be going down this nostalgic trip thank you 🙏 grateful Aussie❤ and yes what a man John is....An Earth Angel of the people, one of creations BEST ❤
What we Aussies don't say when we talk about how much we love John Farnham, is that for a long time after his big 60s hit he was treated like a joke, by the music industry and by mainstream Australia. When his best friend and Manager Glenn Wheatley mortgaged his own house to finance John's comeback with Whispering Jack, the angels finally gave John the love and recognition he so well deserved. A beautiful, forgiving human being. ❤
Love carols by candle light, it's done in every state, it's free and families come along with a picnic and a candle and listen to amazing artists singing Christmas carols.
The one in Melbourne (this one) is by far the best in the Country (and that is from someone who grew up in Adelaide, lived in Melbourne for a little while, and now has lived in Sydney longer than the others now.)
If you watch the documentary 'Finding The Voice' you will understand why he was born to sing and why he's truly grateful for every person's support and without his audience he'd get depressed - he's truly appreciative of everything he's got.
"There's nothing self serving or self indulgent about John Farnham", I think this is a major reason why us Aussies love him so much. We hate pretentiousness and we hate people that are full of themselves. I can't believe that I missed this reaction from your channel, the YT algorithm really sucks sometimes. When I was in the Army as a musician we did a few Carols by Candlelight in Melbourne with John Farnham featuring and even though we didn't get to interact with him much, he was always really friendly and always made sure he acknowledged us and made us feel noticed. That's him to a tee every time I see him perform, it's not about him, it's about what he can do for you. I feel genuinely privileged to have been around in the same era as him, albeit more for his career in the 80s onwards, I'm probably 20 years younger than him. His legacy will remain for decades, even after he has gone. Charlie, I truly appreciate your reactions and don't think I didn't notice your shirt, thank you for introducing me to Dirty Loops as well.
He really is special…….still watching this so many years later and the magic is still there! Thank you John fr the joy you brought to so many and still remaining humble and a great family man…….pray that you are recovering years on from surgery……
I loved this song, from the moment Gerry and The Pacemakers released their version; John released his cover in 1972, and has been the Australian standard. But when it comes to duets, you can't go past Jimmy Barnes and David Campbell; their performance from a Carols By Candlelight, with David hosting and introducing his father Jimmy Barnes. I highly recommend you react to this performance; especially with the introduction.
I so wish you had had the opportunity to see John live. You are so right in your description of him. He exudes love and care on stage. He touches everyone
I play this every year at Christmas I just love John rendition of this song I never walk alone. I just wish they recorded this live at the time but we are lucky that someone recorded it off the tv so we have this.. 🧐😊🇦🇺
Hi Charlie, just have to say how much I enjoy your reactions to our John. I heard him say in an interview once that he was notorious for forgetting lyrics so he would look to Lyndsey for a prompt. I can't say for sure but when he gets to the line, bye and bye, helooks straight at Lyndsey. Perhaps he was doing that here. Maybe?❤
Welcome back Charlie. John always gets you in the feels. He makes it feel personal and intimate. He is authentic that’s why us Aussies love him, we don’t tolerate bs well. Great reaction as always. 😊❤️🇦🇺👍🏼
Not surprised it hit ‘the feels’ Never Walk Alone is emotional at the best of times. Your comment in the afterthought about John caring about making a connection got to me also. It’s so true, every audience member at even his biggest gigs walked away feeling like they’d been to a mate’s place. Thanks for this reaction. Loved it.
You totally hit the nail on the head. John is never anything but authentic. And he sure does connect with the audience. That's why we love him so much. They broke the mold when they made our Farnsey. Even after watching that performance amd so many others so many times over many many years, I still feel the connection. It makes me feel happy, emotional and proud to see John so well loved even after all these years
He comes across as such a beautiful soul. I'm so happy that we get to witness him and his beautiful voice now. You're the voice is one of my all time favourite songs, that I still listen to on a regular basis, all these years later.

Thank you Charlie for showing this beautiful song and for your emotional reaction, which I too had a tear. John is a superb artist who has bought so much joy and love into peoples lives through his music …. Thanks 🙏
One of the great things about Christmas in the middle of summer is carols by candlelight concerts, the two big ones in Melbourne and Sydney and countless smaller ones in parks all around the country.
You talk about John's lack of self indulgence, and that he sings for everyone else. I think this is both beautiful and very true. Case in point: he sang BACK UP VOCALS on a track for a comedian who goes by "The Twelfth Man". Given you're British, I think you've a good chance of appreciating the song "Marvellous" (particularly if you like, or at least understand, cricket). Bonus vocal on the track is fricken Jimmy Barnes.
I've had the privilege see John in several live performances. He's a great performer with a wonderful voice. He has a great time on stage and the fans join in the fun.
You’re spot on about everything you’ve said about John, he’s just there for the love. The greatest male vocalist of all time. Thanks for supporting our John.
John makes every member of the audience believe he's singing just for them. I don't think you can say that about anyone else. Even Freddie, brilliant as he was, sang to the entire crowd at once. John somehow manages to achieve a personal connection that others just can't.
Wow!!! I'd like to hear that. John and Jimmy !!!!
The lady next to John is Lisa Edwards.
Farnsy Always gives me goose bumps - no matter what he sings!!
I've had the privilege see John in several live performances. He's a great performer with a wonderful voice. He has a great time on stage and the fans join in the fun.
He never misses a note. He is perfection. ❤
You’re spot on about everything you’ve said about John, he’s just there for the love. The greatest male vocalist of all time. Thanks for supporting our John.
😂 Lisa Edwards ❤ love your work!
John makes every member of the audience believe he's singing just for them. I don't think you can say that about anyone else. Even Freddie, brilliant as he was, sang to the entire crowd at once. John somehow manages to achieve a personal connection that others just can't.
