Dirk really understands his role and what it means to be an metal drummer. Man deserves his flowers. Well aware Nick Menza's contribution to megadeth but its so fun to watch Dirk play, you can just tell he loves what he does, infectious vibe and its just really fun to watch someone perform and do what he loves, even if it's just in a studio with a few producers he still wants to you to know he's having fun. He talks about it a bit at the end, he just understands what this band and the audience needs.
@@tycho_m And then you've got Blake Richardson of BTBAM who now looks like he programs robots and is the wholesome supportive father you see at sports practice that brings all of the healthy snacks for the kids but then absolutely demolishes the drums while also having that wholesome supportive father personality at the same time.
There's something to be said for the group of people that immediately had the same thought as you, and the people for whom it just went over their heads.
yeah at the time of recording i think Kiko was still sorting out the onboarding Teemu with management to be his replacement so it wasn't officially public yet
Dirk absolutely does Nick Menza’s drumming justice (RIP Nick). Rust in Peace was the album that got me into Megadeth (as a Rush and Iron Maiden fan) back in the early 90’s. I love his respect of the band, and his enthusiasm to move forward.
I was fortunate to have the opportunity to share a few meals with Dirk and his wonderful wife back at a small event in Fallbrook at Dave's old house in 2018 over the course of a weekend. Dirk is one of the most genuine, kind, amiable people I have ever met. We spoke about music and drumming and just life in general. I was also fortunate to get to watch him do an acoustical set on a drum box for a very intimate band performance around Dave's fire pit. The man can play. He's a real artist and a very humble but impressive person. Of all the musicians and singers I have met over the years I would say he is easily my favorite. Good guy!
That mentioned "B Section", the rhythm and key change (Dirk plays it at 2:00)... NEVER fails to pump me up. Great Menza's massive beat and Marty's otherworldly solos are a pinnacle of metal history!
I love how full of energy Dirk's playing is! Totally reminds me of Nick's playing (he always played like there were 10.000 people watching him even when he's alone lol) Hopefully Drumeo will make a "The Genius of Nick Menza" video someday, considering the amount of Nick-era Megadeth songs that have been covered in this channel and because he _indeed_ was a genius that inspired thousands to play the drums (including myself!).
Dirk, you're a beast! Nick really did some amazing shit. Take No Prisoners was one of my favorite Megadeth songs. Nick really made the drumming stand out on that one for me.
He is always my favorite guest you guys bring in. Helps I still love Megadeth but its the first times that I truly enjoy from this channel and his are always great. IMO!
1990, at the no longer existing Capital Center, Washington D.C. Megadeth was the middle act, promoting this album. Opening act - Testament, Souls of Black album Headliner: Judas Priest, Painkiller album. What a show.
One thing that I really love about Dirk’s playing is that he is the only drummer that really nails Gar Samuelsons parts on the first 2 records. Gar had a jazz fusion background and loved Billy Cobhams playing. So there is a heavy fusion vibe with his drumming. To play his parts is no easy feat, and Dirk nails them. No disrespect to Dirjs predecessor’s of course! Fine players all.
Going into the B section having the first bar with the loose hi hat and then tightening it up for the rest of it was always my favorite thing and it always felt like the intervening drummers between Menza and Dirk skirted that or were at least mixed more kick heavy. I love it
One of the most iconic Megadeth songs and an incredible drummer! I had the chance to meet Dirk over the summer and he is definitely a down to earth humble guy. He puts his all out at the shows and has so much respect for the way Nick played!
I saw them in 2016 and again in 2018, I was blown away at first how good, how true to the recording Dirk plays. The records are like the commandments etched in stone, they *have* to be honored
Man, even though it was one of the first songs I really liked since the beginning of discovering Megadeth (circa 2006) Dirk's tempo acceleration at the end of the song gave me goosebumps. And, RIP Nick.
Always love seeing Dirk. When I got the chance to meet him up in Albany I told him I loved his stuff on Drumeo! What a fantastic drummer and a great guy overall. I even got a pair of stage played sticks signed by him!
Had to re-watch several times! This was my go-to in high school. Love Megadeth and this song always gives me goosebumps, especially at the end with the double bass and ACCELERATION! Megadeth rules!
I remember seeing them play this on the Arsenio Hall Show and both Menza and Friedman were brilliant. I was hooked. I have to say this is by far their best album.
Just listened through the three Scarve albums on Spotify this weekend. Dirk on those albums is his peak drumming (and possibly peak metal drumming in general)
Crazy that i literally had a dream i was playing Hangar 18 on guitar last night. Not a drummer but i love this channel and listening to drummers doing their thing
Dirk is absolutely my favorite Megadeth drummer. Nick Menza and Gar Samuelson are iconic, but Dirk just fits the bill and seems like a really chill dude who respects the drummers before him.
Nick would have been great on a drummeo playing an unheard song. Dirk finally is someone who does justice to Nick's drumming. Great job. Can't wait for the Menza documentary coming out soon. RIP Nick.
I can't believe how much of this song and album I listened to as a teenager. It was playing all the time. I couldn't fathom how groovy it was. Nick Menza did legendary work on this album, it's unforgettable and a lot of it is due to the drums perfectly understanding what the guitar riffs needed. It wouldn't have been half as impactful with different drum parts. It's always fun to play guitar to these drum parts, because it makes you sound so good and cool on guitar. Yet this song is almost impossible to play until the end, it's so fatiguing. After playing Holy Wars and then this, when Take No Prisoners starts there's just nothing left of your hands and it's a song that really burns them down by itself already.
Still my most listened to album of all time. Rust In Peace is an absolute masterpiece, from beginning to end. And thank you Dirk for giving well-deserved props to Nick. 🤟🏼 Marty’s solos are so melodic and perfect, and then there are Dave’s. 😂
Friedman and Menza elevated this album to greatness.
They added to the Great Riffs ever written
The riffs by Mustaine alone made it great even without anything else
Gar was siiiiiiiiiiick!

I love Dirk he’s just the best - such a chill humble dude
How he looks: 👺
His personality: 🥰
Dirk is a gem, but that's an accurate description of most metalheads honestly
@@tycho_m And then you've got Blake Richardson of BTBAM who now looks like he programs robots and is the wholesome supportive father you see at sports practice that brings all of the healthy snacks for the kids but then absolutely demolishes the drums while also having that wholesome supportive father personality at the same time.

Everyone talk about solos, but the drumming is insane.
RIP Nick.
You're spot on! The drumming was insane. Nick was a true master of his craft. Rest in peace.
Lately an undervalued drum legend! 🙌🏼
Imo the guitar work is insaner than the drums on this track!
Whole album's a drumming masterpiece. You can tell Holy Wars or Hangar 18 almost instantly just from the drums alone.
The whole band made it what it is, the whole album Its a team masterpiece
This was the song/video that on first listen *instantly* turned me into a Megadeth fan. RIP Nick.
Perfect metal tune
same
Did he dieded?
@@dima.jiharev yes he passed away 2016 onstage while touring OHM
Nick Menza was a beast on this whole album, one of my top ten albums ever. Dirk, seen you live with Megadeth, you honour him and add more.
God bless you fellow rocker. Jesus saves sinners. God bless all the rattleheads!
Dave and 'our guitarist'"... perfectly put.
He probably doesn't even bother to learn their names.🤣
I'm a pleb with no knowledge, what's the significance?
Megadeth goes through guitarists like most people do underwear
@@bobgregorasz7685 😆
@@faunsoloDave is the lead guitarist on most of their songs but.... he's a guitar player too
Fan of Megadeth for over 20 yrs and I’m loving these sessions with Dirk 😊
Dude is the perfect fit for them. Miss em in Soilwork but he's 100% where he belongs.
👍
1. What an incredibly talented guy
2. What's an incredible song. A total Banger 18
3. This guy looks like a fun feller to have a couple beers with
3:35 "our guitarrist" he didn't want to risk saying a name LOL
Probably because he either did not remember haha or to make sure the video ages well later...
Risk... that weird megadeth album... Lol

Love the signature Menza cross-over when playing the symbols.

@Bonesgrip haha nice. Yes cymbals.

Great. Im glad to know this. Thanks from Brazil.
Dirk is a beast at drums but he has a some sweet peacefull personaliity in the vids. Love that guy!

This whole album will never ever get old to me.
Dirk is a powerhouse! I love how he performed Mr Brightside when you challenged him! Amazing content from Drumeo as always!
Lets gooo Dirk is backkk
Dirk is such good drummer and nice guy. Great tribute to Nick.

Much love to Nick Menza. One of my earliest drumming heroes. RIP!!!
A gentle monster behind the drums! It's always great to watch Dirk playing any song!!!
Killer episode!! Love the thumbnail as well!! 🤘
happy 50th birthday to him . one of the best drummers out there and also to feature on drumeo
He is always my favorite guest you guys bring in. Helps I still love Megadeth but its the first times that I truly enjoy from this channel and his are always great. IMO!
9:46 that's an unexpected piece of advice that's actually very important
You guys are killing it with the content lately. As a guitarist it makes me sad that no one is doing this level content for us strummers.
My first CD when i was like 15 in the mid 90s. didn't grow up a full metal head but i still appreciate the greats like this
When it comes to Megadeth everything kicks ass. Love every album. Great job brother.
One of the best Megadeth tracks

Always love all the videos with Dirk. Please bring him back as many times as you can!!!
Always enjoy seeing Dirk on the channel!
Nick Mensa deserves much more love, recognition and respect.
R.I.P legend.
im so glad there's still Dirk material in the tank!!

Every Dirk video is a must to watch ❤ love this guy
Megadeth is the GOAT! Kudos Dirk, Great explanation on how to play the song.
Sometimes a well played 2-4 is all you need for a kick ass song
Absolutely anything more would kill the locked in groove
Metal artists are such kindler, gentler, and approachable people these days. :) MONSTER PERFORMANCE, DIRK! THANK YOU!!!
Bass player here... All you do, Drumeo, you're doing it for our community, too. Thank you! 🙏🏻
I love the tribute to Menza, with the crossed arms hitting the crashes in the double bass section. Perfection, Dirk!
Such an iconic song! Absolute banger from every instrument involved! RIP Nick - he was a hugely underrated drummer

Nick and Marty added so much to this album. Best metal album ever imo.
Man I love Dirk!
A beautiful song, a beautiful groove, a beautiful lyric. Perfect song. No juggling, no ego. Perfect song. Nick menza rules. Dick amazing drummer.
Dirk is an absolute legend!!!🤘🏻🤘🏻🔥🔥
Yep, the "C" section, that's the part I can't get my feet around 🙂. Great playing Dirk, love the show!
It's a bitch on guitar too. I actually find Dave's leads easier to play than the under lead riffs at the end lol
Man, even though it was one of the first songs I really liked since the beginning of discovering Megadeth (circa 2006) Dirk's tempo acceleration at the end of the song gave me goosebumps.
And, RIP Nick.
I forget how many times I've seen Megadeth, but at least four times have been with Dirk, and he's an incredible addition to the band.

We love you Drumeo!
I hope Dave treats Dirk really well, he is the guy. He sounds incredible in Megadeth and is the best one at emulating the Gar stuff
I remember seeing them play this on the Arsenio Hall Show and both Menza and Friedman were brilliant. I was hooked. I have to say this is by far their best album.
Dirk is very accomplished and talented, but he seems to have a really warm and engaging personality - that's got to make touring so much easier!
And that’s how you make a studio take in one shot, perfect! Amazing drummer, nice guy!
Dirk might be the coolest dude that ever guyed

What an awesome drum kit finish on your set. love it.
A NEW DRUMEO VIDEO WITH DIRK VERBEUREN ON MY BIRTHDAY!!! What a TREAT!

Dirk as a Belgian drummer made his American dream come true. An inspiration to many.
So fucking good. Grinned through every second of his drumming 🥁🤘🔥
I would like to see 'Trust' next time.
Nick would have been great on a drummeo playing an unheard song. Dirk finally is someone who does justice to Nick's drumming. Great job. Can't wait for the Menza documentary coming out soon. RIP Nick.

I saw Dirk in Megadeth concert in Argentina and he is a complete beast of a drummer! Hope he's un drumeo More often!

This guy is a beast behind the kit.
That kit is stunning.

This song is so iconic! Nick was incredible Rip. Dirk is an awesome drummer too 😊
Well Played Dirk. Reminds me of visualizing “Nick Menza” beats during Megadeth’s Hammersmith Oden Concert back in 90’s. Gone too soon “Nick” 😭
