My partner is in a supervisor/manager position and was put in that position because all the over time and bending over backwards he did for them and now they're saying they don't want him working over time because he makes too much so when everyone is calling in or quitting randomly because of that sites upper management trying to micromanage they have no one who can cover the shift except for him and they get all pissy at him for it. Like this is literally why you put him in this position and maybe if you quit being psycho money hungry assholes on a power trip people would want to show up for their job. 🙃 The way companies are set up these days is insane to me. Like the top guy can be rich as fuck while doing almost nothing but the people at the bottom who are the backbone of the company and keep it running, can barely even make a living while busting their ass. What. Is. Life.

They made me have a meeting where they expressed their disappointment and that I was putting the team in a bid.
And since I was going to a sister agency they tried to sabotage my transfer. I had to stay for an extra three weeks because they asked them to delay my start. And they tried it a second time, but my new boss told them to kick rocks.

Got with him one day during the overlap, and we came to the conclusion that as long as everything was getting done, they had no need to hire anyone else... so we started letting little things through. Things that would get the attention of the big bosses, but wouldn't get us fired.
Wouldn't you know it... as soon as there was an issue, 2 more supervisors were magically hired.

😂 brilliant! Thats exactly the advice my husband gave me. I was working long hours only getting paid for 8 as a manager. He said unless they’re losing $$$ they won’t care how much extra work you’re doing. I took off for maternity and they had 3 people cover, got back most of the accounts were past due. I said eff this started only focusing on my job description & didn’t give a damn about anything else. Suddenly it was in the budget to hire someone, they took 4 weeks just to have a meeting with me to bs me. I ended that meeting and went and sent a resignation email to the entire department.

Actually, it is more expensive to hire more people than to charge OT. Especially after Obamacare. While I was working as a supervisor at Walmart (without the official pay, because then they had to give me full time, which includes insurance and more taxes).
A lot of people think companies are just evil vile entities (they are), but people don’t understand it’s because our government incentivizes it.
“If you have over x amount of people, you must provide y.”
      “If people work a minimum
Of x hours, they must be full time.”
“If employee is full time, insurance is mandated.”
The first thing Walmart did was cut all non-full time employees hours. I remember going weeks of 32-40 hours, then months of 12-20 hours/week. Not to mention that costs started sky rocketing everywhere.

    • @morrigan908
      @morrigan908 2 місяці тому +18

You're assuming they're getting OT. Even though it would be uber illegal, I'm guessing the peon employees (no offense to lower-level employees, I'm saying that's how management thinks of them) are probably salaried.
I had to stand up to my boss for all of my employees who were front line on a 24x7x365 helpdesk. We asked for volunteers to work Christmas Day, which was a paid holiday for the entire company. My boss wanted to pay them 1.5x instead of either 2x or giving them a floating holiday to use later.
Had to actually use a freaking whiteboard to demonstrate that he was asking them to work four hours for free. There was the paid holiday, which they would be getting, so that's 8 hours they were owed. Then they needed to be paid at least the full rate for their 8 hour shifts. Add those together and that equals 2x. If they only paid them 1.5x, then they were basically working for four hours for free. After involving HR and threatening to complain to Wage & Hour he finally agreed to pay them for the holiday and their shifts. I tried pushing for their shifts to be paid at 1.5x holiday pay, which would have been 2.5x, as a thank you for working the holiday, but that one got smacked down before it was halfway out of my mouth.
None of this affected my personal life or salary, as they would only be calling me on Christmas if there was an actual emergency since we had enough volunteers, and I was salaried anyway. But I wasn't going to let upper management jerk my employees around like that. I was not the most popular person in the company with the owner since I knew labor laws and used them as a club when necessary. Several months after that Christmas incident, they figured out a way to make my position redundant. Best layoff ever! I couldn't quit because I wouldn't get unemployment, but being laid off was awesome! I took a couple mental-health months to recover from that place, then landed a position making over twice as much $$$, half the drive, and better benefits. Shortly after starting, we transitioned to remote work and got rid of the lease on our office space, so that became zero drive.

The managers are exempt employees. As such, they should work overtime hours right alongside their underlings (ala George Washington style🧐) because they won't be given overtime pay. Works because it fits within the budgetary constraints. Also, it always confused me about open job requisitions. Does HR contact people knowing that they will most definitely not be filling the job? Do they do this so they look like they are checking all boxes to look good to the EEOC? Love these toons👍💯🤑

    Three things.
    1. Managers DEFINITELY NEED TO participate in these types of things.
    2. The CEO can take a bonus whenever he or she wants. That person carries a lot more risk than anyone else.
    3. If the CEO IS ABLE to take a bonus, then the employees shouldn’t have to work for free.

I don't know how accurate this is. Managers are usually salary, and are the first to be expected to stay until the job is done without more pay. Companies most often abuse the managers. At least at the companies I have worked.

Generally the new managers especially the ambitious ones are often squeezed out of any labor the company can get.
Meanwhile most older managers that are somewhat stuck in their job role while follow the videos example.
