Squale is an awesome brand with serious dive watch history. Would for sure take this over a Fossil owned Zodiac any day. On top of that Marc at Long Island Watch is just an all around standup guy and for sure worth supporting.

Just curious. Why does the fact that Zodiac is owned by the Fossil group make it a no-go for you? Have you observed a negative impact on Zodiac watches as a result? People make similar gripes about Glycine being owned by Invicta but I haven’t seen any Invicta-ness ooze into the Glycine watches…

Squale produced cases for Doxa and Heuer. But perhaps the most famous example is the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms.

I bought the first iteration of the Montauk from Long Island Watch on sale a few years ago… $420. An absolute bargain. It was the beginning of a love affair with Squale, killer value given their continuous heritage and history. I have just ordered their first Titanium offering from Marc. 😊

Enjoyed the video. Well balanced review. I live in Florida (swimming and boating) and I'm thinking about getting the blue version. Like the retro look of this watch. The thick steel mesh bracelet you show looks really cool. I agree that your black leather band is also an excellent option.

Love the Squale watches, and they are always on my short list. Long Island Watches is also a great retailer with a great selection of fantastic watches, with Marc's own interpretations/homages of some iconic watches. I do like his recent Calabro GMT. But I digress. Thank you for your review, time, and effort to share this with us all. Interesting take on the sailcloth strap. I was considering getting a couple, but I may stick with NATO style straps for now. Happy 4th for tomorrow, Sir.

Have the black dial.
Only niggle I have is the minute hand. If it ment to be extended out to the bezel, for a dive function, then surely better lume on the bezel markings would be required.
Or a train track chapter ring.

Have one with the black dial, and the only possible gripes I would have are the hands being a little too long and the lume being a little weak. But totally not dealbreakers for me. This gives me Squale / Blancpain feels all day long.

I have the original Montauk in red. Awesome watch! I bought the bracelet as well, but I don't have it on the watch. It wears kinda funny. Female endlinks could have really helped it out!

I really liked this watch until you pointed out how oversize the handset is. I really don't get it, why make them overhang so much? Is it just to artificially make an imperfection to justify the price differential between the Montauk and the rest of the models?
