  • Oriental rug cleaning. In this video I run through a complete satisfying oriental rug clean. In this Persian rug cleaning tutorial I run through a complete oriental rug clean from Strat to finish, including using our rug dusting machine to remove the dust and grit from the rug, then using our sapphire scientific upholstery pro hand tool to rinse extract the rug during the rug washing process. We don't fully submerge rugs during the wash process unless its absolutely necessary as you will see during the rug wash, instead we concentrate on the rug dusting on our rug dusting grids to remove 95% of the dry soil or dust. We then use our Kirby vacuum cleaner to vacuum the rug before washing. We then do an in in-depth clean of the rug fringes before drying the rug and grooming it. I don't know if this qualifies as an asmr rug cleaning process but it sure is satisfying!

    I have been cleaning all ages if hand woven oriental rugs for 40 years at home. And newer rugs those made after maybe 1930 you can get away with using a beating machine on them. It still isn’t good for the fibers. Are use a big old heavy Kirby and remove quite a bit of the dust that builds up in them. And small Hundred year old plus rugs I generally only top wash them by hand after they’ve been vacuumed and if they’re quite old I do not even use a Kirby on them. But for most drugs I do submerge them. I have never had any problems with the warp and weft made of cotton distorting the rug as I use very thick heavy towels like I was washing a sweater to remove the first parts of the water and then I live them on a tilt board where they are kept in a room at about 80° and they are turned periodically. I have never lost a rug yet. I do agree with testing for colorfastness. Usually the rugs that bleed I made after 1920 about to generalities because usually vegetable dies almost never bleed but after 1875 with the introduction of aniline dies you can get bleeding. Rugs made after 1970 unless they’re very cheap tend not to have ties that run. But it depends on where the rug was made. And a run they were very stiff penalties since the 1930s if you were caught using chemical dyes that practice now and most major rug weaving centers has disappeared and most drug makers try to use vegetable dyes which age at a much nicer color change. These are all generalities but were thinking about. I have to tell you reading the rug is not good for them in anyway whether they’re brand new or old. But that’s just my experience. Liked your video.

    Great job - i enjoyed just seeing someone caring so much about cleaning a rug properly, and loved the technical info. My dad trained me up on his beloved collection of treasures - our backbeaters always rubber thongs though, so we never achieved this level of result! Just enough to keep them ticking along. Gosh i would love a backbeater of my own!

    Excellent source of information on cleaning an oriental rug!
    Can you give us a video on repairing these rugs? I understand a valuable rug should be repaired by an expert, but if the rug cost less than $400 to $500 what would be the best way of getting maximum use from it?

    Hi, great video but just a quick question. Can you explain what you put on the fringes as you said you don’t put bleach them but you put peroxide on them?

    • @CleaningHowTo
      @CleaningHowTo  3 роки тому +3

      Sure, peroxide won’t damage them but will whiten, I also neutralised the peroxide with an acid rinse once it had done it’s job. Some rug companies will use a fringe bleach at a low dilution which is similar to household bleach which will damage the fringe.

    I like to know because I believe if the rubber start to disintegrate it would leave a residue on the back of carpet.
    And for a DIY this could be a disaster.
