  • Follow property speculators as they give advice to eager people looking to enter the property market, and rehab UK real estate in the hopes of turning profit. This week Sarah Beeny visits David and Trisha Thompson in Sudbury, Suffolk who bought a Grade II listed building with no idea what it would take to develop it. Will they be able to pull this project off with the every growing list of eccentric ideas or will the rising market save yet another naive developer? Where are David and Trisha now? Sad news I'm afraid... while there's no update on what happened to this house, their son Daniel - briefly seen at 11:12 - died at age 30. When the show originally aired in 2005 it was dedicated to him according to bit.ly/2SDqSe3.

The man is mad and his wife gazes at him as though his zany words are gold. Adding an outhouse, huge library/office room, and making it a one-bedroom house? Yes, that will be popular. A tragedy about their young, handsome son.:( Thanks so much SADK!!!

It IS really annoying and especially for most people who are just trying to save these buildings (I am CONSTANTLY complaining about them!)... but in some instances, it saves these buildings from really bad and also dangerous renovation. You have to have your head in the sand (or just have no interest in buildings) NOT to know that buying a Listed Property comes with a storehouse of crazy rules, regulations, higher expenses, etc. etc. In his completely fantasy-minded way, David did NO RESEARCH. So many people jump into this to make a 'fast buck' ... and the reality is that there is a LOT of actual hard work involved. I don't see him doing ANY of that.

If this episode was "impossible to find" , it could have been that the owner was so embarrassed about his own portrayal that he wanted to surrpress it.

I wouldn’t have thought he would have had any say over it? 4oD have never had this episode available for some reason, and I’ve been looking for it for years.

His wife has a big, silly grin while listening to all his insane plans for outhouses, jacuzzis, and removing bedrooms in that rotting house as though it's all brilliant.

I just love how this obnoxious, prissy Listed House council works: They didn't care that this place was literally rotted to pieces and felling down, but someone improving it and using the wrong plaster can get them thrown in jail. But David thinks buyers won't mind there's no heating? Really? I think I'd pass on buying that house. Those kitchen cabinets aren't "period" but just old-fashioned, circa 1985 - 1990.

They ended up with the tasteless interior design!!! And they ruined all the period charming this property used to have((((

NOT putting in central heating, IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN POINTED OUT, will add to the faster demise of the work that HAS BEEN DONE (not that they care about doing anything properly) because Great Britain is 95% water. Damp in the walls is what kills everything (wood, plaster, paper, fabric, happiness, ... etc. etc.).

I actually wanted them to make a loss - he would just not listen and had "pie in the sky" ideas. No damn radiators!! I wonder how long the property was on the market for and whether they had to rent it out in the end.

Really. Grandiose ideas for a study and outdoor showering but doesn't think buyers in England need heat! That 1984 kitchen is a fail, IMO. I had one just like it in 1984! And just left mud in the yard.

There’s an episode I have been looking for for years about a woman in a Stately home (can’t remember any other details) - do you know which one that is? I thought I had all episodes but that’s one I definitely don’t so wonder if there’s a whole other series I’m yet to discover 😁

I think this was one of the worst makeovers I've seen and due, in large part, to the tragic ineptitude of a man who, while having grandiose ideas, hadn't the funds to back them, hadn't the common sense necessary for a build, who hadn't done his homework, isn't skilled in the trades, has no taste ... and seemed to think (as so many do) that this is an easy and fast way to make a lot of money. Were this true, David, EVERYONE would have figured it out BEFORE YOU and done it themselves.
I don't like to see people being USED, or animals or children ... or Houses.
What makes me angry is this; in the end, the House suffered from a fool who didn't respect what the House needed. And for that, I do NOT wish them well. There ARE people who should be kept away from renovation.
