- In this episode of daily drivers we take a look at the iconic Land rover defender 90. Unlike the majority of 4x4s on the road today this one has actually seen some dirt and has got plenty of battle scars to prove it. I had a great time filming this episode and make sure you keep your eyes peeled for part two where we are going to tear up the countryside and try not to get the truck stuck.

This is without doubt the best video out there describing what Defender driving is all about, brilliant stuff!
I like the type of land rover where you can pick up a roller and paint it without making it look like sh*t. Thats the best way to describe old vs new land rovers.

Great vid. Don't think they are too bad for the planet when you consider that one is 1992. Think of the cost on the planet of building a new 4x4 vs keeping the old ones going.... or at least that's my excuse and I am sticking to it.

I read a recent article about electric cars which pointed out what we all suspect and that is electric cars are more polluting than diesel cars when you take In production batteries etc.
"The snorkel's an absolute pain in the balls to fit". Second time I've watched this and that had me lolling, we'll have to arrange something after we've fixed up our 90 from Farmkhana! Merry crimbo!

Greetings from South Africa. My 21-year-old brother and I (25) love the Defender! As a blind person I love the double cab pickup versions with the 300tdi and 2.4TDCI engines while my brother prefers the traditional station wagon versions. Personally I'm not all that crazy on straight through and performance exhausts but I do understand that other people like them.

Ha! So nice to see someone who drives a Land Rover like me! With a great big smile on their face!!!!!!! Excellent video. I have just sold my '09 TDCi Defender which I had Loved for 4 years and bought a Series 1. What a difference and what a blast! I bought it in Edinburgh and drove it nearly 400 miles back to Essex. I have owned it for 4 weeks and including the drive from Scotland I have not seen another on the road. It has a 200tdi engine, goes like a rocket but the breaks are crap and the gear shift is a monster to master. Having said all that, I have not stopped smiling since I got Her. Land Rovers, what can you say? You either love them or are not bothered at all. As a wise person once said "if you have to explain to people why you have a Land Rover, it means they will never understand anyway!" As i said, Excelent Vid. Keep up the good work and stay safe. G

One of the most fun motors i ever owned was a Jeep Wrangler TJ..Same sort of shit...Loud, rattly, slow, uncomfortable, cramped and awesome. mine was lifted with 33's.

I drive a td5 disco at the minute, swapping my disco for a 90 200tdi pickup in about 40 hours 😀😀

Land Rover found that nearly all Defender owners owned at least one other vehicle, be it a Fiesta or Ferrari. Hence they could focus on being totally agricultural.

Brakes aren't that bad actually. Some idiot pulled out in front of me a few months ago and the wheels locked up and I thankfully for them missed the side of it (leaving a cloud of black smoke too I might add). Defenders (old style ones) are the best!

Brakes pants? Then fit a dual diaphragm servo. You won't believe the difference.

I want a 90 so badly. The used values have gone absolutely insane though, 4-5k for something that you can actually drive away.
CAElite me too dude! It's ridiculous how expensive a tidy defender is. There are bargains on forums though. 👍🏻
Ooo, got any recommendations for forums? I'm based in Scotland, got about £2k burning a hole in my pocket from trading my rather expensive hot hatch in for an older mx5, I need something for hauling & I think I may have been bitten by the Defender bug, have had L200's and Shoguns in the past.
I've been trawling autotrader/eBay/Gumtree and everything sub £4k is REALLY rough, I don't mind a project but folks are trying to shift literal sheds for £2k+, it's really difficult trying to justify it when you can get a Fourtrak or clean Trooper SWB for £1k easily, they're just not the same though :D.

There are a few pages that will get you some awesome bargains. 👍🏻 Even though they are an expensive investment, they are just that, a solid investment! Have you thought about a series 3 or do you definitely want a defender? 👍🏻
Benjafield & Baker Never thought to try selling groups, Ill definitely keep an eye out on there, pretty set on a 90, plan on it being my daily after a bit of work (I'm a diesel generator tech by trade so not afraid of a bit of spannering). Also wanting it to tow my 2-3 ton trailers around which a defender is much more suited for.
Benjafield & Baker toying with a Disco as well as objectively it is a lot more car for your money. It really just ain't the same though, I love the modularity of the defender more than anything else.

Love this video! Looking to buy my first defender at 19 as soon as possible, definitely want a 90 hard top/CSW, but how easy is it to convert pick-ups into hard tops/CSW doing that would open up the range of vehicles I could buy?

My dad use to own a land rover defender 90 with a 6inch lift with 35s it was not shomthing to mes with because we tride to get it stuck but never could it defiantly lived up to its name. My name isnot Brenda my name is Matthew and i have a preproduction s2a and has 33s. It lives up to its name
What's fuel like? I get about 17-21 mpg in my VXR WILL this be better?
will do about 28-30 mpg as its pretty good, but i own a seat leon and get a lot less haha

richylad71 Haha, soon! I hope! After filming this we went out 'swimming' and completely knackered the clutch, my mate has been busy and then Ill so he didn't have a chance to sort it. The clutch has been sorted now and I'm almost good to go and get some filming done. 👍🏻 Because of the positive response this video has had I want to get it right, so I'm going to order some more camera gear and bring you guys even better content! Daniel Scott For a 17-19 year old you are looking at between 2500- 3000 first year. Did I do it? Absolutely. Am I glad I did? abso fucking lutely. I've had a 300tdi for 3 years now and I'm now competent at taking it apart and putting it together again!

Just a joke mate. Though i am more of a Patrol guy, i do like the design of the defenders. But i'd still pick my Patrol. Especially the one im in the process of restoring and trying to fit a 5.9 cummins in. ;)
