This is a great idea for something small to take on a vacation when you don't want to bring a full-sized sketchbook. I will definitely be making some to keep on hand for day trips as well.
I'm using old personal journals as sketchbooks now. I do love the idea of using old books though because the paper tends to be better quality (most of the time) especially the hard back ones. You can cover the print with white gesso or acrylic or any colour you like really. Or leave some of the print exposed create more interest on your page spread.
I found some tagboard that is thick but doesn't crack when I fold the edges. I've been using art markers and fine-liners on it mostly. I have to try it with paint. So far, I love it. I want to buy the largest format but can't figure out where or how to store it! I'm having so much fun making one page sketchbooks. They are taking the pressure off finishing a big sketchbook (which I really struggle with). I really like that it's easy to try new styles, and trying a new style on a one page sketchbook allows cohesion when flipping through it. I bought Expressive Sketchbooks in July 2022 and it's a favorite art book go to for ideas and inspiration!
I make a one page sketch book with 16 pages and a sort of Z cut so you can use both sides, but I like this little one and will have a play. I like that you can start anywhere in it. If you score your line first, even thicker paper won’t crack. A bone folder really helps. Thanks!
Absolutely love your videos! Could you maybe do a video about the materials you use? Also about the brands? I am really curious about the sort of paints and markers you use 💛
I make small sketchbooks in various different ways... so some of them will have more pages than these... but I don't stick these ones together to make more pages. xx
